A couple more things:
Sashes
The new ones won't be ready for tonight, so we'll have to make do with our existing ones. I'll bring along some spare strips in case you haven't brought yours. I'll also bring some bits of net that could be used for nicely coordinating hair ribbons.
I hope to be able to give you your new sash on Monday - in exchange for the old one. I need these back so that I can make them into petticoats of the right colour. (We've currently got 3 different shades of net on the go, but only a few bits of the correct shade, so it's very valuable). You will need to attach the fastening before next Thursday, which will involve sticking on one bit of Velcro and sewing on the other bit.
Tonight's collection
I think we'll collect more money if we have more than one person collecting, so that the punters can't escape quite as easily. I'll bring 3 pewter tankards tonight and, if you agree, I'd also like to experiment by giving away a 'raven's egg' of the Cadbury variety to everyone who makes a contribution. This would involve as many of us as possible immediately after each dance (given that the dancers will probably need some post-dance discussion time). I hope that the extra money we make will more than pay for the eggs, but we'll see.......
Looking forward to seeing you this evening

Hi all,
Just a quick reminder that tonight we will meet at the Bree Louise between 6 and 7. Hannorah won't be there until about 6.30. We will all be dressed and ready to dance by 7.15.
A few weeks ago on a Sunday we talked through the judging criteria and pointed out the bit about everyone needing to look presentable with sensible hair that doesn't get in the way when dancing. Can I suggest we use tonight to practice looking presentable and you all have a quick think about what you're going to do with your hair? I saw some bright blue hair bands the other day which i might go and buy today.
Looking forward to dancing with you later,
Ffion x

Hi Team
Just a quickie re. the crawl on Thursday night.
We're doing Euston/King's Cross/Russell Square area, or if we’re being posh - Bloomsbury.
Let's meet in the Bree Louise on Coburg St (right by Euston station) between 6pm and 7pm, with everyone dressed and ready by 7.15.
This is a lovely real ale pub that does smashing pies (Nikki I know you're a fan) so is an ideal place to get something to eat beforehand.
I won’t be getting there til at least 6.30, as I’m not in London on Thursday, but can those who arrive earlier attempt to get a spot on the non-carpetted floor - there's not much of it, and we'll need it if we're going to dance.
At the moment the route is looking like this, subject to a few confirmations and possibly a few changes:
Bree Louise - http://www.thebreelouise.com/ - if there's space
Royal George - http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/royal-george-euston/c1025
Prince Albert - http://www.fancyapint.com/Pub/london/prince-arthur/1598 TBC
Mabel's Tavern - http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/63/6376/Mabels_Tavern/Euston
O'Neill's – http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/65/651 TBC
Euston Flyer - http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/37/3701/Euston_Flyer/Euston TBC
The Cock Tavern -http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/34/34001/Cock_Tavern/Euston TBC
The Dolphin - http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/show.shtml/49/Dolphin/Kings_Cross - very folk-friendly
Back to:
The Rocket - http://www.therocketeustonroad.co.uk/ (after 9.30 when food's finished)
Friend at Hand - http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/friend-at-hand-bloomsbury/c6713/ (after 10 when football's over)
Re. the crawl on 28th Feb I could really do with a hand organising this, as I’m incredibly busy work-wise at the mo’ and am working over the weekend too, so no real time to check out pubs. I will bring a list of possible pubs in the Whitechapel area to practice this evening in case any of your fancy slipping approaches with me.

Hi all,
Here's he video from Monday night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cmls0mXnQ54. I cut the fixing the lock bit out to make it quicker to upload. Again, still lots of things to work on but it's definitely getting better. Please watch and learn! It's a good idea to watch once looking out for general movements i.e. do you know where to turn for each figure, once for sword handling e.g. are your hands going all the way up on 1 in pixies, and once for stepping i.e. is your style consistent with others in the set? If you want me to email you any individual pointers I can do.
In addition to practicing stepping for 10 minutes a day please do some mental practice of the dance in which ever way makes most sense to you - writing down the figures / visualising your movements etc. Watching the video lots should also help with this.
Some dates for your diary:
18 Feb - practice. Please bring skirts as we'll practice making them swirl at the right moments. We also need to sort out the Tommy routine so we'll try and do this before (and after if necessary) the practice on Monday. Come to the pub from 6.30pm if you'd like to help with this.
21 Feb - crawl. Probably kings Cross area.
25 Feb - practice.
28 Feb - crawl. Possibly Tower of London area.
1 March - (shameless plug alert!) My band, The Foxglove Trio, are having a CD launch party in the pineapple pub, Kentish town and you're all invited. More details are on Facebook -http://www.facebook.com/events/212632882209461/
8-10 March - something called DERT is happening. Could be a laugh so I reckon we should give it a go...
11 March - NO practice.
15 March - possible social night out. Nic to arrange.
17 - 23 August - Whitby Folk Week. We'll discuss a bit closer to the time how many of us will be at Whitby and other festivals over the summer.
7 Sept - Rachel's wedding in Cambridge.
3-6 Oct - Tenterden folk festival. A relatively small but quite dance focused festival in Kent which Hannorah has suggested we apply to dance at. We can discuss this at a practice soon.
19 Oct - Nikki's wedding in Oxford.
Lindsey, I guess these should all go on the calendar but some people said they'd had problems accessing it. I think Jo said it was asking her for a password and she didn't know what to give. Is that right, Jo?
Think that's all for now. Enjoy your rapperless weekends and I'll see you on Monday!

Hi all,
We've just heard that there's going to be a meeting in the practice room tonight which might run past 7.30pm. Let's therefore meet in the pub and we can talk about sashes and any other business before we start dancing.
See you soon,
Ffion
Hi everyone,
At the practice today we discussed getting in a bit of extra practice time before DERT. We decided having another day probably isn't feasible but decided to try and arrive at the church at 7.20pm in order to have the room ready and shoes on feet in time for a 7.30pm start and also to carry on practicing until 10pm. Obviously this isn't compulsory and it will only be until DERT.
We won't have a practice on Monday 11 March - we'll take a bit of a break after DERT but Nic suggested we should all go for a meal and / or a dance at the knees up ceilidh at Cecil sharp some time after DERT. Friday 15 March is Blackbeard's tea party at the knees up who are a good band so perhaps we could go then. Bring diaries tomorrow and we'll discuss.
Sue also suggested we go to Whitby folk week and dance just for fun, not as an official team. Google Whitby and see what you think. At some point we should discuss which other festivals members of the team are planning on going to this year so we can see if there are others we'd like to go to as an unofficial team.
See you tomorrow at the church ready to dance at 7.30!
Ffion

Hello everyone,
I hope none of you are aching too much after 6 hours of practice in 2 days!
Video
Here is the video I took yesterday http://youtu.be/NfxWQN3jrp8 please watch yourself and look for your areas for improvement. If you'd like me to email you some areas for improvement to think about in preparation for the next practice I'm happy to do that. Nic, can you upload the one you took and save it unlisted?
Stepping
I hope everyone is regularly practising stepping at home. If you're not please try an do 10 minutes a day e.g. When waiting for your pasta to boil or, if you don't mind funny looks, waiting for the tube! On Sunday we gave everyone areas for improvement on stepping. If you want me to remind you what yours are let me know. Generally you'll need to exaggerate your change e.g. If you need to make smaller / bigger circles with your feet they'll be much much smaller / bigger than feels natural.
Sunday practice
We're meeting at 2pm in the church hall on Sunday. I'm expecting everyone apart from Rachel and possibly Lindsey. Correct me if that's wrong. I'm on cake duty.
Shoes
I took the shoes to the man today and he said he'll do them by Friday but they're not open at the weekend. Unfortunately I'm going to a TV show recording on Friday evening and the T&Cs say don't bring big bags and there will be airport style security. Would anyone be able to pick them up on Friday or meet me somewhere in London on Friday evening? Alternatively, I could pick them up and take them to the church hall on Friday evening. Do we think the church would be OK with that if I hid them away under the desk in the corner?
I only had 7 pairs to take - I know I was missing Lindsey's and I think the others are Aishas. If you take your shoes to him soon he'll do it for the discount price. The place is called Fresh Collection and it's literally right by St Paul's Tube station - sort of in the same building as the exit.
He's doing yours for £16 each. Sue kindly suggested that, as mine were £27 you all pay £17 to even it out a bit. Rachel, do you want to take payment via the Raven's account or to me directly?
Dutch TV
Sorry I forgot to bring this up at business. The guy went to Thrales' practice last night and is going to film them at DERT. I'm included to say we should just let thrales get on with it and not bother with it ourselves. Anyone have strong opinions on this one?
See you on Sunday,
Ffion x
Hi all,
