Hi all,
Nikki and Laura are both away tomorrow. I'll bring my whistle but if anyone else would like to bring an instrument and have a go at playing please feel free to!

Hello all,
1. AGM signup
2. Electing a Chair for the AGM
3. Halloween
1. I know it's a little early to be considering the AGM and people have been signing up to it *yay*. However, if you haven't shown your availability please do asap. Remember if you're not there you can't voice your opinion for how the team progresses for the next year!

If you can't come please say so on the sign up sheet and we will take that as meaning you are happy to go along with the decisions made at the AGM. I will be sending out a breakdown of what will be discussed some time before the 10th November so anyone who can't come can comment/ bring up a topic for discussion to ensure their voice is heard.
2. To prevent delay on the day I would like to elect a chair for the meeting- essentially it will be their job to keep control of the discussion- remaining impartial to the opinions given and ensuring we don't spend longer than necessary on each point. (Although the chair can of course take part in the discussion and voice their own opinions too).
If you would like to be considered for chair/want to nominate someone for the job please email me by next Monday (20th October) so next week I can send a list of names for people to vote on. This will then give the chair chance to become familiar with the points to be discussed.
Cheers all,
Becky
P.s. For those of you I don't have on facebook/ managed to miss off the invite. Ken and I are having a Halloween/house warming on November 1st which you are all invited to :) Fancy dress is encouraged!
Hi,
I mentioned ICBINI last night, so here's more information if you're interested.
ICBINI is short for 'I can't believe it's not IVFDF', and IVFDF is the major student led annual folk festival. This year Warwick Folk are hosting ICBINI (in Coventry) from 21st-23rd November. There'll be plenty of different workshops (music and dance), two ceilidhs and casual sessions- it's a really fun weekend. It's run on a shoestring so just £5 for a weekend ticket, and another £5 for indoor camping. There's a facebook event here.
I had a lovely weekend last time Warwick hosted it- I think Nikki was involved in the very memorable Scandinavian singing for dancing workshop and demonstration? If five of us are going we can sign up for a display spot during the ceilidh, and there might be a rapper workshop as it's Warwick (Jake's stepping workshop was really helpful last time.) It's run by students, but there are plenty of ex-students and non-students and it's open to all. Train tickets to Coventry are still pretty reasonable, and it takes an hour or two.
It'd be lovely to see some of you there,
Sinéad
Really really sorry about missing tonight.
Had a few deadlines at work so just leaving now, and by the time I get to you practice will be over. :-(
Promise I'll make it next week.

Hello all,
Mabel Day date has officially been announced as Sunday 7th December. It's a really fun day with lots of other rapper teams and lots of good pubs in Oxford, which you can get to pretty easily and cheaply on either a bus or train. The day starts with people gathering around 11 with the dancing officially kicking off at 12 and culminating around 5ish at a pub with lots of cake and normally some sort of music session.
For those who don't know the Mabels are essentially famous for their love of cake (normally accompanied by gin) what other excuse do you need?
Although it's essentially an open invite they do need a confirmation so fill in the sheet :)

Also for anyone who is wondering about the AGM. I am currently creating a basic document of points to discuss etc. which I will send round and will be accepting suggestions for anything to add etc. I've already had an email from Lindsey with points some of you thought of at Tenterden which I will be including. I request you don't contact me with suggestions until I've sent it out because you'll only confuse my little-overworked-brain.
Cheers,
Becky xx
Hi all,
Thanks to everyone who came last night. I thought it went really well and it was nice to be able to introduce some total novices to rapper as well as teach our dance to people who've already got some dancing experience. I think a few of our 5 workshop attendees will keep coming too.
I think the plan for the next 4 weeks is pretty simple - teach new people Jubilee and teach old people (you know what I mean!) the new dance. It would be good to get new people and the new dance out on the October crawl and Thrales day, depending on who's available to come to those events.
Have a good week!

Hi all
I know it's a bit cheeky to use the team email address for this, but could I trouble you to take 30 seconds to vote for Age UK (who I work for) in the Candis Charity Challenge. If we win we get £10k:

Thanks a million

1. Tenterden feedback
2. Invite back to York
3. Sign up sheet- AGM please!
Just had this nice e-mail from the people at Tenterden- well done everyone that went and battled through the rain!
Just a note to say a huge thanks to everyone who came and danced and played music at Tenterden this year. On the whole it seems to have gone very well despite
the amazing amount of 'liquid sunshine' that fell during the procession and also the heavy frost that hit the campsite over night on Saturday. However the rest of the
time was glorious sunshine (only in the UK of course!!!)
For those of you that braved the procession - a huge thank you (its taken a while to dry out all the kit!!!!) It was good to see some public supporting us in our moment
of madness.....................
Thanks again and we hope to see you all again next year (keep the date: Friday 2nd Oct - Sunday 4th October 2015).
Cheers

2. Also Ebor Morris have invited us back to York next year (12th to 13th September) although it is just to try and get a vague idea of who is available to go again- have a think on if you'd like to go again, I'll bring this up in next weeks business.
3. As always please take time to have a quick look at the Sign Up Sheet, in particular show your availability for the AGM on the 10th November- if you want to have your say on the direction of the team or any suggestions this is the time to share them!

See you on Monday,
B xx
P.s. well done to all the people helping yesterday at the open workshop, I think it went really well. Sorry I was somewhat skulking in the sidelines, still rather worn out!
Hi all,
Here's the rough plan for tonight.
7.30 Hello
7.35 Stepping (unless there's anyone who's never seen rapper before in which case demo first)
7.45 Assign numbers and Jubilee with Tommy and tumble
7.50 Split into 2 sets to learn some figures
8.25 Break
8.40 Another demo
8.45 Learning figures
9.15 Performance!
Last time we taught them a simplified version of the dance e.g. Cutting out back 8 and moving fixy instead of flying pixies. I think we should just see how it goes with the dancers we get tonight but we should aim to go from the beginning through to the lock (excluding tumble) and end the dance there. If there are more than 10 people we won't be able to do this much.
Any more volunteer teachers always welcome!
See you later,
Ffion x
