Hello all,
afraid I won't make it tonight. My major achievement of the day has been getting from the sofa to bed and writing this email plus anything I want to say to Ffion!
Have a wonderful celebration of our awesomeness :)

Hi all,
Sorry this is very late in the day but I said I’d send round
a ‘job description’ for foreperson, based on what is set out at in the 2013 and
2014 AGM minutes:
The main purpose of the role is to make sure we are heading
towards the goals which we set out at AGMs and EGMs (e.g. place in Championship
and do Trad at DERT) and to get the team dancing as well as possible at public
dance outs. The foreperson is the dance ‘quality control’ person and therefore has
overall responsibility for the team when they are together i.e. at practices
and dance outs. The secretary is in charge when we’re apart e.g. telling us
when and where we need to meet next.
The foreperson should listen to team members’ opinions
wherever possible and large decisions should be taken by team members present
during weekly business sessions, AGMs and EGMs. The foreperson will ensure all
decisions are in the interest of the team, but their final decisions should be
respected. The foreperson is also able to make decisions on things at short notice.
The foreperson also carries out these practical tasks:
·
Decides who dances which dances from which
positions at dance outs
·
Looks at the signup sheet in order to plan
overall priorities for practices e.g. if we’ve got 8 dancers for the next crawl
but no 4s then teaching a spare 2 to be a 4 would be the team’s top priority
·
Plans the details for practices e.g. which dances,
figures or dancers who need some attention? What looked ropey on the last crawl
and what have people told you they’re concerned about recently?
·
Leads the creation of new dances, if the team
wants any new ones
·
Researches traditional dances, if the team wants
to learn new ones
·
Teaches a set at practice
Don’t worry – you
don’t have to do all of this yourself!! As long as the foreperson has a general
idea of where the team is going and how we’re going to get there these
practical points can all be delegated, especially the first and last ones.
See you all later,
Ffion x

Hello all,
A couple of hoody related things:
1. Caring for your hoody
2. Spare hoodies
1.
So, after many trials and tests and conversations with the printer, this is how you should care for your hoodies:
The hoodies were printed with an ink which contained a chemical cure (!), this means that the ink will have stablised and become fairly wash-proof over the first 24 hours. However, just to make doubly sure that the print is robust, apply a bit of heat to the print. This can be tricky because too much heat will scorch the print and discolour it. So, I've been experimenting and come up with the following instructions:
Preheat your oven to 130 degrees centigrade
Fold your hoody carefully and place inside an old pillow case (to prevent oven gunk getting on it)
Put the pillow case on a clean baking tray - ideally the print is facing upwards and not touching the tray too much
Put the tray and hoody onto the middle shelf in the oven for 2.5 - 3 minutes. DO NOT LEAVE IT FOR ANY LONGER THAN THIS OR THE PRINT WILL BE SCORCHED.
Simples.
If you do ever need to wash your hoody, do a gentle cool wash (no higher than a 30 degree wash).
Sorry again for the faff.
2.
I have the original hoodies which were sent and were the wrong size with a wrong size print. Although they are not as pretty as the hoodies we have now, they are still a good quality hoody and could do nicely as a bed hoody or something to give away to small children because they are in silly small sizes... I have the following available (please see size chart for details):
Women's
XS = 3
S = 2
M = 7
L = 5 (This was the size which fit those with a 32" chest!!!)
Men's
MM = 1 (This size fits a 40" chest)
If anyone would like a hoody, has a small child, or knows someone with a child who may want a TR hoody, then let me know and I can bring one into practice. I can't keep hold of them all as they are taking up space in my small flat. If no one wants them, I'll take them to clothes recycling...
That's it! See you tomorrow!

Hello all,
As you can imagine, I've been ranting on about Tower Ravens and DERT at work for the past week. Well, on the back of that, I've been asked whether Tower Ravens would be interested in performing at Cecil Sharp House as part of their May in a Day festival. It's a family folk event, so expect lots of children... (Apologies if that's put you off http://www.cecilsharphouse.org/component/content/article/21-shared/shared-e…)
They suggested TR performing perhaps from about 3pm and were thinking we'd just do a block of dances. I explained that we had at max. 4 dances, and that ideally we'd want a break between each dance and that this is usually achieved when 2 or more teams dance together. I asked whether they had invited any other dance teams - they said no. I'm not sure if they will, but if you think the pressure is too much for one team to take then I could advise more strongly that they do so, so that we can take it in turns to dance.
They asked what our fee was! I don't think we can demand too much, but could ask for a little to go towards expenses.
Is this something anyone would like to do? I've added this to the sign-up sheet (apologies Becky for treading on your toes). The 9th is only next week, and so they need an answer pretty quickly - this week really. Let me know!

Hello all,
Not sure if people would have noticed these slyly making their way onto the DERT website or not, but here are the marks for the trad:
Sallyport Sword – Newbiggin, 277equal Thrales / Thrales, 274Sallyport Sword – Swalwell, 255Tower Ravens – Westerhope, 211Locksided – Swalwell, 194
I thought we beat the Sallyport Swalwell and not Locksided.. Very pleased we beat Locksided as we looked much stronger! Feel Sallyport should have been docked more for fecking up multiple times and recovering badly.
