Hey all,
So Roseanna isn't at practice - one of the people we were getting kit sorted for, neither is Hannah who I know is having problems. Therefore postpone it all by a week! I.e. don't bother bringing stuff for now [😊]
Becky
Hello all,
Hope everyone is having a bit more of a restful week, I'm a little in shock at not seeing some of you for a while!
Please can anyone who took a necker return it to Kate if you haven't already.
KIT - Sue can you come with kit in mind for (in particular) Roseanna and Rachel-Anne. Although in general it'd be good to get anyone else who needs anything sorted. Not neccessarily for you to do but for you to be in charge of!
Jo S. can you bring Nic's old sash?
Kate can you bring Nic's old skirt?
If anyone has anything that needs repairing or altering it might be a good opportunity to flag this up (Hannah I know you're not there but perhaps if you come with anything next week so we can try and fit you again?)
We do only have limited amounts of material left so we are at the point of sharing and recycling, which is fine we just need to buddy up a little on sizes [😊]
At the moment I have Katherine, Hannah and Jo W. who are not here this coming week, is there anyone else who has told me and I've forgotten? Or who might have forgotten to tell me? We've had brilliant numbers recently which is great for making progress on Piccadilly and Jubilee all at once!
I am trying to narrow down weekend practices pre-DERT. I'll be in touch once I've made final desicions on teams and dates.
Ta,
Becky
Hi All,
Thank you an well done to everyone who came to Thrales Weekend - it was
great and we've had loads of positive comments from various teams/people
which is great. For anyone who has missed the social media storm - *we WON
the Beadnell!!!* We are now a prize-winning team as of Sunday, and the
proud owners of a singing fish trophy. I'm looking forward to the pictures
of it swimming around the Thrales trophies Becky... There are/will be
various videos floating around somewhere on facebook if anyone feels
they've missed out...
So, business for those that missed it (and a few additional items that have
come in since) - apologies for the long email again - we just seem to have
lots coming up!
1. November Crawl
2. Mabel Day
3. Chippenham
4. Sign-ups
5. Bedford Christmas Party
6. V Arts
7. York
1. The November crawl will be in either Stratford or Whitechapel probably -
Katherine is organising this and Carol has kindly agreed to play for us, so
all good..
2. Mabel Day - I think we now have enough of us to confirm. They have
promised Cake...
3. Chippenham - as agreed at the AGM, I have contacted Chippenham Folk
Festival to say that we would be interested in dancing there. We would
dance for 1 or 2 days, and if we dance on 2 days, then we get a half price
festival ticket (£58) and free camping (not the greatest offer, but it
would be dancing at a festival) - the same would apply to any partners etc
that we bring.
4. Sign-ups - please say whether or not you can make it to anything you
haven't already - this includes the Christmas Crawl; and the dance out with
Silver Flame and Earlsdon. Those of you that I added by hand on Monday - it
might be worth double checking that I've put your name in the right place
as I did manage to write one or two down on the wrong lines when I was
doing it (should all be correct though).
5. Bedford - we have an invitation from Fine Companions (
http://finecompanions.synthasite.com/) to dance at their Christmas Party on
16th December in Bedford. This has come through someone Kate knows and she
will need to get back to him soon - so could people put some kind of
expression of interest or not either on the sign-up sheet, or just reply.
Bedford is relatively easy to get to on the train taking between 30 and 60
minutes.
6. Laura S has been emailed about something called V Arts on 10th December
in The Courtyard Theatre that we could potentially dance at. I don't have
much info about it beyond this:
"We are contacting you regarding a traditional dance and literacy evening
we are hosting on the 10th December at The Courtyard Theatre.
We are looking for 6 traditional dance acts that represent countries within
London and share their traditions. Through this we aim to bring unity and
joy.
Your society would be incredibly valuable to our production and as I am
English I am keen to have a highly talented group to represent our cultural
dance!
Here is a link to our event https://www.facebook.com
/events/340335549654158/?ti=icl"
Please have a think abut whether this is somtehing that we'd be interested
in doing.
7. We decided to say no to the York weekend - mostly on account of it being
a long way to go to dance outside. I've since realised that this would
probably be the weekend that Bromyard is, which we also discussed going to
at the AGM (I will get around to looking into this soon, I promise).
Have a great week or so and see you all soon!
Hannah :)
Hello Ladies,
Just to confirm that you can borrow some long swords from the EFDSS. Education department have wooden ones, and we also have some metal ones in the archive... I'm not entirely sure why we have some in the archive. Seems to me that they would be better off being used than gathering dust. Anyway, let me know when you'd like me to bring some to practice.
Laura
Hi All,
Thank you to everyone that danced / played / tommied at Northgates day of
dance last Saturday - was a great day!
Amazing to see so many people at practice on Monday! For anyone that missed
it / has forgotten, here's a recap of business plus a few extra little
bits. Plenty on the sign-up sheet so please fill it in! (link at the bottom)
1. Thrales Day
2. Mabels Day
3. Crawls
4. Other stuff
1. Thrales Day. Becky has covered most of this, so just a quick reminder
for those dancing Beadnell please bring your ironed necker and a pair of
black socks. The team tours are in the attached spreadsheet if you want to
know where we are throughout the day and here's a link to where all the
pubs that various teams will be visiting:
https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1H7g1Jg3nEFpelZEYp1pSEG48dvc&ll=51.5…
2. We have officially been invited to Mabel Day on 4th December! For those
that haven't been it's a day of dancing in pubs around lovely Oxford with
some other teams, finishing up with Cake in the final pub! It's on the sign
up sheet so please decide whether you can make it or not - will be great if
we can get a team together.
3. Our November crawl will be on 24th (area TBC) and we will have the
Christmas crawl on 15th December. All the money from the Christmas crawl
will be going to a charity to be decided on beforehand. Please fill in
whether you can make them on the sign-up sheet.
4. We have an invite for 11th February from Silver Flame, to dance out with
them and Earlsdon in Stratford on Avon - it's on the sign-up sheet...

Have a good week and see several of you over the weekend!
Hannah :)
Hey all,
Thanks for the excellent work put in on Monday, it was great to have so many people! After this weekend I'm hoping we can focus on determining the exact changes we want to make to Piccadilly and then spreading that through the team [😊]
Re. Thrales day:
Friday - we'll be in the Parcel Yard in Kings Cross from around 6.30. Even if you can only come for 1, even if you're not there for the rest of the weekend, even if you can't show up until later, please come along! You don't need kit, you don't have to dance, all you need to do is make friends with people! If you're not sure if we're still there please text one of us (Katherine, Ffion and I will most likely be there - my number is 07988696321). NB If you can't make it that's fine too.
Saturday -Meet 10am at the Feathers (SW1H 0BH), nr. St James' Park tube. Apparently the landlady, who is rather concerned at having 80 or so rapper dancers descend, is planning on having the bacon butties ready for around 10, therefore, if nothing else you snooze you lose and get a sad sandwich. If nothing else please be there at the very very lastest of 10.30, to save me having a heart attack. FYI Saturday night buffet is provided and should include a nice mix of meat, veggie and vegan options.
Sunday - Meet at 12-4pm, at the Knights Templar (WC2A 1DT) nr. Chancery Lane tube. Again, please arrive close to 12, this time there will be no reward of bacon, but I will love you forever (and isn't that worth so much more?). Food is not provided but a reduced menu will be available.
Dancers:
Saturday - Piccadilly 1. Ffion, 2. Becky, 3. Hannah, 4. Jo, 5. Katherine
Jubilee 1. Katherine, 2. Jo, 3. Hannah, 4. Becky, 5. Ffion (Having not done 4 in a while this might be interesting from my point of view)
Sunday - Piccadilly - Same numbers but Laura W. can be 2, and I could be 3
Jubilee - To be decided on the day
Beadnell - 1. Ffion, 2. Jo, 3. Becky, 4. Hannah, 5. Katherine
Sue will be our awesome Tommy throughout excluding Beadnell where Simon will be taking over temporarily. Kate is going to be rocking it on violin all weekend, please help cart her case around if you see her flagging.
I hope that basically confirms things for people. Sunday doesn't actually involve that much dancing and I'll be trying to let people rest who have been particularly shattered by Saturday, injuries, drunkenness and the like.
There is a schedule for the Saturday although now i can't find it...hopefully Hannah will do a better job than me and send it round with the usual business.
See you soon,
Becky xx
