Hi All,
Hope you are looking forward to a festive break.
Firstly DERT - for those that haven't been with us before we normally look
to find a hostel or similar rather than indoor camping. If you would rather
do indoor camping could you please let me know as I'm starting to look into
place for us to stay - I think a couple of you suggested that you might
prefer to indoor camp to see people from Warwick.
I've only found one hostel so far, but it isn't very central. There are
however some cheap hotels that would work out about the same price as a
hostel. Apartments might also work if I can find one big enough. (I haven't
looked properly, but was trying to get an early indication of what is
available and how much it will be.)
Sign-ups - please take some time to look at this. We don't currently have
enough people to join Silver Flame in February - quite a few maybes and
no-replies, so could you please move yourselves to yes/no asap.
All the crawls and day practices are now on the sign-up sheet, so if you
could check these as well please - I've copied across what was in the
doodle poll a couple of weeks ago, but not everyone had filled it in at
that point. Speaking of doodle polls, don't forget to fill in the day
practice poll for those of you in the Trad that haven't yet completed it.

Sign up sheet here as always:

Enjoy the festivities!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello,
Sorry for being so slow at announcing the numbers for the trad competition!
First off, Emma has kindly offered/been coerced into leading the Trad so if you're in the team she is the one to look to during practice and doing decision making etc. I have emphasised that she's not being abandoned in this task, not only are there members of the team who know Westerhope well, but we'll repeat last years practice of watching each other, especially if there are any changes, and offering advice. As I think this was very beneficial for both the main and trad set.
Having looked at who we have and who I have interpreted as wanting to dance in the Trad these are the numbers me and Emma have come up with:
1. Hannorah
2. Anna
3. Hannah TD
4. Emma
5. Rachel-Anne
We're still figuring out a 6th person as this is a much smaller role in the dance. Should anyone have a burning desire to be the 6th person please let me know.
The numbers have been decided based on what people know/might like to learn for those who have done it for a long time (in this case Hannorah!)
With that in mind, if you haven't already, please look at the poll for DERT day practices. Generally 1 is enough for the trad so don't panic about filling in lots of dates!
https://doodle.com/poll/24rbvr66fhzttrny#table
Should any of this sound horrific to you please get in touch asap and we will look again.
Please note the aim is to catch lots of people up on Piccadilly so we can think about the Spotlight/ the showcase. There is always the difficulty of needing two tumblers but we will look at this a little nearer the time.
Once again, have a lovely Christmas!
Becky xx
Well done everyone. I'm delighted to say that we collected £246.94, so I shall be sending £250 to MIND on your behalf.
This is our second highest collection ever, narrowly beating our joint Christmas tour with Thrales in Islington in 2014 and a lucrative Southwark/Waterloo crawl in February 2016.
For the record, our highest total was last Christmas in Euston. We collected £279.71, but this was aided and abetted by a very assertive landlady who almost arm-wrestled money out of all her regulars.
A very merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
S x
Hello all,
Big thank you to everyone who came on the crawl on Thursday and then to C# last night - I know it makes for a lot of December dancing!
We made an epic £250 for Mind which is amazing 😊If Sue could confirm the exact amount and then we can put it on social media??
We went down an absolute storm last night! Excellent dancing from everyone and goo talking to the crowd afterwards (it sounds obvious but it does make a difference as to how we're perceived). C# have sent us a lovely email saying how much they enjoyed us so should mean we're invited back next year to various events.
TONIGHT:
We won't start early for the clog unless we're all at a loss in Spoons at 7.15. I figured we could do some clog steps a bit more slowly, some normal rapper stepping and some dancing. Judging on last night we have at least me, the 2 Hannah's, Emma and Rachel-Anne and everyone else is a bonus! I'll see how people feel later as to what we want to do. There's at least 5 os us though so defo some rapper.
If you're not about tonight have a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Practice resumes as normal on the 8th January.
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Plan dance-wise for Sunday is:
1st spot Jubilee then me doing the clog waltz (unless I have a total breakdown at the idea but we are supposed to fill 10 minutes).
1. Emma
2. Hannah TD
3. Laura W
4. Hannorah
5. Ffion - if Ffion isn't there yet Rachel-Anne (that way you'll both do 2)
2nd spot - Westerhope followed by Piccadilly
Westerhope:
1. Becky
2 Hannorah
3. Hannah
4. Emma
5. Rachl-Anne
6. Laura W
Piccadilly:
1. Ffion
2. Laura W
3. Becky
4. Hannah
5. Rachel-Anne
As Hannah said please get there by 6pm at the latest. If for any reason you'll be later than that please let me know so 1. I don't panic and 2. we can tell C# staff.
There is a green room where we can hang so yes it's a bit of a wait till it get's started, but should be somewhere to go!
See you tomorrow for festive fun 😊
Monday - from what I can see on the doodle it seems people want to do a bit of dancing and a bit of socialising so I figure dance for half of it and go to the pub for the second half?? Depending on who we have and how we feel we can always do more or less dancing!
Thanks,
Becky xx
Who would like to guess how much we collected last night for MIND?

Thanks for attempts at charity organising! I've only just got back from Newcastle tonight so have been a bit too out of the loop to be useful, and back at work tomorrow so nowhere near Stratford.
Hannah if you can't get it done for any reason let me know asap and I'll do it first thing in the morning.
Sue just let us know if you're late/can't make it, one of us will attempt to fill your shoes for the night!
Thanks again,
Becky

Attached. I guess if we are having problems collecting the tins, maybe Martin could be persuaded (I haven't asked him mind, so we'd probably need to be desperate). Sorry I can't do it - have a lunchtime thing at work.
Thanks for sorting!

Happy to sign and scan or something. Afraid I can't get over to Stratford. So if it works with me signing and someone else collecting that is fine by me.

Hi Ffion
Thanks so much for doing this on our behalf. Use me by all means but do you have all the necessary details? I can't see the form you mention, possibly because I'm on my iPad.
Lovely reply from them.
Very annoying because I could easily get to Stratford (spell check below altered it to Stafford!) tomorrow under normal circumstances. However I don't know if I mentioned about my car being broken into last weekend. I'm overwhelmed with trying to get it all sorted and I have a mechanic coming tomorrow at an unspecified time to install a new battery, so I have to be in.
He's fitting it in after all his booked appointments and may not arrive until the evening, in which case I may be late for the crawl. Worse still, I may possibly not make it at all. But that's unlikely. I very much hope that I don't let you down too badly.
Hope to see you tomorrow

Hi Sue,
I asked Mind about getting tins and they've sent me this form. Could you be the second person on the form? I think if we want proper tins someone is going to have to go to their office tomorrow before the crawl as it will be too late to post now. Their offices are in Stafford so I'll see if anyone can go there tomorrow.

Hello Ffion,
Thank you so much for your email and for supporting Mind with the Tower Ravens – your dancing looks amazing!
We’re absolutely thrilled to have your support and would love to help in any way we can with your fundraising. Could you just fill in the attached collection tin form and return it to me (by email is fine). Alternatively we have cardboard collection tins you can order, or we can send a label you can put on your own bucket/collection tin – just let me know what suits you best?
I’m not sure if your event is next Thursday or tomorrow, in which case we might not be able to get the tins to you in time but if you could get that form back to me I can get the tins out asap.
We send our fundraisers a Mind t-shirt for free, so if you would like one please let me know which size you would like (S-XXL). For additional t-shirts we ask for a donation of £5 per t-shirt to cover manufacturing and postage costs, this is so that we can spend all the money you raise on helping everyone with a mental health problem. Additional t-shirts can be purchased by calling our Supporter Services team on 0300 999 3887.
I could also send you a materials pack that contains posters, balloons, flags, leaflets, banners and a cardboard money box if that might be useful for you?
Kind regards,
Ruth

Hello Ffion,
Thank you for coming back to me. If someone has time to come over to Stratford and collect them that would be wonderful!
It is the Mind Christmas party today so unfortunately nobody from the fundraising team is around but reception will be open until 5pm where I will leave a bag for you containing the collection tins, some leaflets, a plastic banner and a t-shirt.
Our address is:
Mind, 15-19 Broadway, Stratford, London E15 4BQ
The easiest way to find us is to come out of Stratford station on the opposite side from Westfield Shopping Centre, walk through the Stratford Centre and turn right when you come out the other side and you should be able to see our offices on the opposite side of the road.
Hope that all makes sense but please do give me a call if you need directions – my direct line is 0208 215 2428.
Thank you!
Ruth

Hello all,
As may have become apparent over the last few weeks, Kate has realised she can't commit to crawls in the run up to DERT, although should still manage the majority of practices and would like to be involved at DERT. We've discussed it sporadically as a team and I'm confident we don't have any in-house members who want to step up to this role at the moment? Please correct me if I'm wrong!
Moving forward we do need to consider what we will do next, even if it's just establishing a stand-in for the first couple of crawls in the year.
People we know and have played for us in the past are Martin, Nikki and Will Allen (the box player who has come with Martin a few times). All, especially Martin, have offered to cover us if we need it, but I don't think really want to be with us at DERT. With that in mind, do the team have any ideas how we should approach the problem?
Ideally the closer we are to DERT the more experience we have dancing to specific music as it makes us more relaxed when we get to the actual competition. Kate has shown us huge commitment over the years and, again correct me if I'm wrong, is still keen to be as involved as she can, including being at DERT and playing for us if that works best for the team.
A possible suggestion would be contacting one/all of the three mentioned and asking re. availability and asking if they could team up with Kate so the same music is being played whether Kate is present or not? This would be easiest with Nikki and Martin as it's all the same instrument.
Food for thought, any bright ideas maybe talk at the crawl??
Thanks all,
Becky
Hi All,
Change of location - we will be dancing around Fitzrovia-ish. Katherine
found an awful lot of Christmas parties around Bank...
Tomorrow's pubs will be:
The Court (on Tottenham Court Road)
Simmons Cocktail Bar
The Lukin
Tower Tavern
The Fitzrovia Belle
The Rising Sun
Fitzroy Tavern
The Jack Horner
Please be ready to dance in the Court by 1930. The person I spoke to
thought it would likely be busiest around 6-7 so hopefully there will be
space for us in there after that.
Could someone make a facebook event please? (I don't have the login)
Thanks,
Hannah
