Hello,
We need to update our Bio on dertinfo and I was hoping that someone might
be able to help me as I am currently lacking in inspiration! Below is the
one we used last year as a starter for 10. There might even be chocolate in
it for the best version!
Let me know your ideas...
Thanks,
Hannah
"Deep in the heart of our nation's capital city, ten maidens fair have been
astounding the pubs of London with their feats of acrobatic prowess (and
drinking) since their escape from the Tower in 2012. The Ravens have been
up to much mischief since their foray up to Manchester, including winning
the widely acclaimed Sushi Trophy at Thrales Day for their "Peckham
fisherwoman's dance". Led by a wayward Beefeater who decided to take up the
bugle despite having received no formal training, the Ravens will be flying
North to visit some of their wild counterparts in the Lake District for a
relaxing weekend of dancing and drinking in Kendal. Mint cake anyone?"
Hi all
Meeting at the Edinboro Castle, there should be a table under my name. Please endeavour to be ready to dance at 7:30, we need to be at the second pub on time otherwise we won't be able to dance (football).
Pubs are:
Edinboro castle
Earl of Camden
Prince Albert
Draft house
The old eagle
The constitution
The golden lion
See you tomorrow :-)

Hi All,
1. Coming up this week
2. Sign-ups
3. DERT Bio
1. Crawl on Thursday - keep an eye out for details
Day of dance with Silver Flame. As Becky said, please meet at Marylebone at
0950 and we will catch the 1010. Dinner will be at Wagamama's - I think we
worked out that this shouldn't be a problem dietary-wise (apparently they
have a GF menu), but if it is for anyone could you please let me know asap?
Exact details of the day to be confirmed - will update later in the week.
2. Firstly - thanks for your efforts in filling things in on this, I think
we're in a much better position now to see what we are able to go to/not in
the next few months.
New booking: 13th May Highams Park Spring Festival - we have been invited
back again, after we went 2 years ago. The Vikings are back in case that
persuades anyone! Note the dancing is outside, but it is very easy to get
to!
I have now removed Ossett Beer Cart and Bridport Folk Festival. (Still one
or two I need to figure out...)
I appreciate it is still a long way away, but the people organising
Faversham Hop Festival 1st-2nd September are asking whether we know yet
whether or not we will be able to attend. Could you all please have another
look at this one as most of us are listed as maybe's...? (and, yes that
includes me...)

3. If any of you have some time / brain power, and fancy having a bask at
our DERT Bio, that would be much appreciated. I'll resend the email so you
have all the details.
See you all soon!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
I just wanted to say a big thank you for everyone's hard work last night. I know we had 9 people which is always awkward and various people who were shattered for different reasons, but I still thought we achieved a lot! I think tommy stuff for DERT is coming together which will hopefully help with planning the music too, and I know outfits were being discussed etc. which is all necessary. We're getting spare kit back in the next couple of weeks so we can address what is going on there as I know not everyone has what they need - as people are aware the sash/petticoat fabric situation isn't really fixable due to no more fabric so we can't magic everyone's kit out of thin air, but we can figure out who will need to share/if there are any gaps we can fill in.
Westerhope looked good to go on Thursday, it might not be perfect every time but I think starting to dance it out is a good idea - Hannorah if you're not well enough Rachel will come along to fill in as 1, if you're up to it she'll have the night off!
Big thanks to Emily for being so patient and understanding about dancing at the moment, I hope the stepping practice was useful in explaining what they all are, very much hoping we can get you involved properly next week
Crawl will be in Camden organised by Katherine, details to follow, I know she's struggled a little on pubs in Camden proper so is moving up to to Kentish Town to try and get more pubs. We might end up busking a bit so all help with this is much appreciated!
Saturday - Hannah should be booking the trains today, leaving Marylebone at 10.10, please be there at 9.50 so that we're not panicking that you won't make it. Train home gets into London around 10.30 - it was that or leave at 6.30 which seemed a bit ridiculous.
See you on Thursday,
Becky
Hello all,
Absences I have for tonight: Ffion, Rachel-Anne, Ellie, and Hannorah (Hope you feel better soon!)
Tonight, due to these absences, might be a bit tricky, but we'll do our best to prep for the crawl and Saturday - Emma I don't know if you have decided if you want to dance Westerhope out on Thursday? I know not having the team together today, and not a whole team on Thursday makes it a bit tricky, but there are various people that can fill in tonight and Thursday.
As far as Piccadilly goes, we have Paul tonight so the aim is to try and progress with a two character act, in particular getting the start sorted out so that Martin can settle on how he wants the music for us coming on in a way that works with an intro etc.
Aim to continue teaching new people Piccadilly, to get it increasingly in peoples heads.
Thanks all,
Becky
Hi All,
Fun fact to brighten your Wednesday - I have just found out that we are
getting a total of 2 hours more daylight now than we were at Christmas!
1. Crawls
2. Coming up
3. Sign-ups (please read!)
4. DERT trains
1. Last Thursday we raised a whopping £205.22, AUS$5, 1 euro cent and a
button! Awesome job everyone! (Also I now need to start guessing something
that isn't a button now we have finally collected one...)
The last crawls before DERT have now been decided - 14th March will be a
Westerhope Crawl and 16th March will be Piccadilly, so as to make sure that
both can be danced out. (obviously if you are dancing in one, you don't
have to come to the other one - unless you want to or are a musician...)
2. Our next event is the crawl with Silver Flame on 17th Feb - I'm just
finalising timings with them and will let you know, but broadly - dancing
in Stratford on Avon, then going to Leamington Spa and dancing some more
and having some dinner. I think most people would like me to book them a
ticket from London and back with the exception of Emma - so I'll sort as
soon as I am able.
3. Apologies for my little sign-up sheet whine on Monday - but it really
is important for making sure we can go dance places. Please check the
sign-up sheet for *all* events coming up (No is a completely acceptable
answer - as are Yes and Maybe, the latter less helpful, but I will accept
it as an indication that you have at least looked at stuff). I basically
just need an indication as to whether these can be done, as with all the
No-replies there is still the possibility that it could be done if they all
happened to be Yes... but equally may quite likely be a No. Sign-up sheet
below. Events include:
Osset Beer Cart 1-3 June
Sandwich Folk and Ale 7-8 July
Bridport Folk Festival 27-29 July
Croydon Night of Dance 21 Aug
Faversham Hop Festival 1-2 Sept
Edinburgh I have moved into 2019 as with Sidmouth this year I think it
is unlikely we'll be able to do it.
4. As some people have bought their own train tickets for DERT and we
don't yet know what we will be subsidising, the fairest way to deal with
this for now is for those of you that I have bought tickets for to pay me
back and then if there is a refund available, Sue will pay these out of the
Ravens account. I'll be in touch shortly regarding how much you each owe me
for trains and with my bank details. Accommodation has been paid for out of
the Ravens account.

Happy Wednesday.
Hannah ☺
Hello all,
Thanks for the continued hard work! I know this mid-way point on the run up to DERT feels like an uphill struggle, especially with crawls, day practices etc. and it really is appreciated that everyone keeps going with the enthusiasm and hard work 😊
Sum-up of last night - we worked on Jubilee and Piccadilly with newer people so everyone is getting through those well as well as running through Westerhope with people that are coming to the Silver Flame DoD. I am continuing to try and keep progress going, in particular with new people learning Piccadilly, as long as I can make timings work!
On top of this we did more detailed work on Piccadilly and Westerhope. I know Rachel-Anne isn't on the crawl next week but I'm hoping someone can fill in at Westerhope 5 for the night (Ffion, Katherine or Rachel) to allow the rest of the set to dance it out.
Next week Paul should be coming along so we can consider double Tommy act sort of stuff. In particular we want to get the start decided so that Martin can figure out how he and Pat will be starting the music. I'm hoping it is also an opportunity to figure out how Paul and Sue can work together in the rest of the dance to get a balance going.
At the same time I think it should be a good opportunity for Westerhope to finalise details and get the team confident enough for dancing on Thursday.
Thanks all xx
Hello all,
We should have a woman called Holstein Wong coming to view practice tonight. She's a morris dancer based in Brisbane but working in London for Feb. She knows we're really busy with DERT prep but please be friendly and answer any questions etc, she just seems interested!
See you later,
Becky
