Hi All,
First things first, if you aren't coming to Windsor on 22nd June, could you
please bring your kit to practice on Monday in the hopes that we can share
a bit of kit with those that don't yet have any/don't quite have a full set
yet. We're now quite limited in what's left in the spare kit - we're down
to a couple of skirts (probably in less useful sizes) and we can use
Ffion's petticoat for this one as well, but she will need it back for
Kimpton. I've asked Martin to bring these bits, but if you aren't going it
would be super useful if someone can borrow your kit!
Next week we have Windsor Morris Home Tour! Dancing is 11-4 with Windsor
and another couple of teams. We then proposed that we might go and do some
pubs on our own afterwards as we're there and then go somewhere for dinner
before coming home. It isn't far to Windsor, so if you could all sort
yourselves for tickets that would be greatly appreciated - though if you
need a buddy or two for a group save, please shout!
For trains, probably either the 0952 (or 0957) from Paddington, changing
at Slough and arriving at Windsor & Eton Central at 1017 (or 1036) or the
0928 from Waterloo (0932 at Vauxhall, 0938 Clapham) arriving at Windsor &
Eton Riverside at 1021. Industrial action may affect South Western Railway
that day, if it does and your preferred route is the Waterloo to Windsor &
Eton Riverside route please check this before you travel in case there are
cancellations. We should hopefully have a starting location soon - my
assumption for now is that wherever we are starting is reasonably close to
the station. Walk-up fares look pretty cheap £8.40 off peak day return with
railcard, so you can probably just buy on the day. We'll sort out meeting
points next week.
*So onto our festivals!!*
*Cambridge* - if you weren't there on Monday, or weren't sure, could you
please take a look at your diary and decide whether you can/would like to
go. from the looks of it it will be the weekend only, which they are happy
with. We will also be able to say how long we dance for at each spot -
there aren't other teams coming, we'll also get to do pubs!
*Warwick*, we now have slightly longer to sort tickets - until the end of
June, after which I think that really is it. We should probably start
sorting trains, but I think that is something for just after Windsor,
unless anyone is keen to sort themselves out. I know one or two people
asked about bringing someone, please remember that partner tickets are
subsidised to £45, so you will need to pay that at some point. I literally
just need names for this - so super easy. I will be arranging tickets for
all yeses and maybes, though it would be rather helpful if you are a maybe
if you could confirm? Any partner tickets that you'd like added either
email me, or whack them on the sign-up sheet. I'll email a final list on
Thursday 27th June for you all to review, so you have until then to get
sorted. Tickets will allow you onto site from Thursday evening should you
wish to be there then.
*Whitby* - We are going to be doing the Firday night LNE, if you can't make
that, please let Becky know. We will also be doing a workshop on the
Thursday - we think workshops are an hour. The suggestion on Monday was to
have a stepping focussed workshop looking at different types of stepping
and probably incorporating them into figures.
I know a few of you don't exactly have accommodation sorted, if that is you
and you need to camp, please let me know. I've attached what was sent, so
you can review your entry and then let me know any changes - I went on the
assumption that unless you told me otherwise that you didn't need camping
as a lot of us have a house to stay in one way or another. I would like to
do these all changes in one go as Melanie will have to make them now. She's
keen to know about camping as soon as we can. Car registrations will also
help speed up your arrival on the camp site if you are going by car.
Finally, don't forget other events, such as *Sue's street party* and
the *London
Folk Festival* In September, and then *Bath Time *and the *Dance around the
World Festival* in October that will also need your consideration. As ever
if you don't know, a maybe is preferable to a no reply... at least I know
you've taken a look at the sign-up sheet! ☺
Sign up sheet here for you all:

Hello all,
First off: We've been asked to do the LNE spot at the final ceilidh of Whitby (around midnight). People I have on my list who might not be there at that point: Ellie, Miriam and Hannorah. Are any of those wrong? Is there anyone else. Please let me know asap.
Windsor, just to check the numbers for dancing. Let me know before Monday if any of that is wrong or if you need a runthrough:
Jubilee
1 Becky/Katherine
2 Fliss/ Hannah N/ Hannah TD/ Tori/ Hannorah
3 Becky/ Hannah N/ Hannah TD
4 Miriam/ Hannorah
5 Clare/ Katherine/ Fliss (Fliss please shout if you'd rather not dance that out yet!)
Westerhope
1 Becky/Katherine
2 Hannah N/ Tori/ Fliss
3 Becky/Hannah N/ Hannah TD
4 Clare/ Hannorah
5 Miriam/ Katherine
6 Fliss/ Miriam/ Hannorah (again Fliss please say if this isn't ok)
We don't have a Piccadilly set as we're missing a 1/5 depending who Katherine is made to be!
I would like to do some clog (potentially) we'll make sure to run over old clog on Monday as imagine we're not quite at public new clog yet!
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Absences: Cinzia, Emma, Laura and Martin (but we have Will instead) and we have Ffion.
As always let me know if I have missed you.
7-7.30 is clog. Please look over the style points that Ellie sent round. Most of it was pretty basic so shouldn't take too long to get the hang of it. Me and Katherine picked up the points pretty quickly, atm it's just a struggle to remember them all the time alongside the actual steps!
Rapper:
Building on what I said about bringing energy into the dancing I'd also like to have a talk about how we each present ourselves. I know sometimes practice isn't reflective of being out, it's hard to smile without an audience etc. But there are some points we can all think about that don't need much effort. I'll basically be making this up so please chime in if you have any thoughts!
We've got various dance outs coming up so I'm going to crunch the numbers and figure out what will and won't be ok and if there are any positions people need to master before that point. I'll probably try and go through it at the beginning so people can highlight if they're not happy and we can start filling in the gaps.
As per Hannah's email. Remember the signup sheet! https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
Am being too lazy to summarise this for you so just going to send the whole
thing but here's the deal for Cambridge - sounds pretty good!
I can double check about whether just the weekend works if anyone thinks
that doing the Thursday and Friday wouldn't be possible/check whether they
were thinking about just the weekend (you never know!).
Please do fill in the sign up sheet as appropriate, and if you have any q's
let me know and I'll see what I can find out
Hannah

Hi Hannah,
I hope you are well?
I believe the lovely Festival Operations Manager, Becky Stewart, has been
in touch with Martin on facebook about the team performing at this year’s
Festival. Becky has asked me to drop you some details regarding everything.
Can you advise if you do anything other than rapper and how long a set you
would be able to fill? (please note it is absolutely fine if you only do
rapper).
For now I have attached the example timetable from 2018, do let me know if
this looks doable for you or if you have any comments.
In terms of what we can provide please see below:
Fee: £350 approx.
Camping: camping provided at Coldham’s Common free of charge
Passes: Full team to be provided with full festival passes for the duration
of festival (ideally up to a maximum of 16- please confirm number of
dancers)
Becky has mentioned that you have enquired about dancing in town and that’s
a thumbs up for that! As for any ceilidh or concert spots we unfortunately
don’t have anything available for this year.
I think that should be everything you require info wise from me at the
moment but please let me know if you have any further questions and I’ll be
happy to help.
Kind Regards,
Hazel Beale

Hi everyone,
We made some great progress with the Ottawa waltz on Tuesday. Becky and Katharine are basically at dance-out level now which will be really useful for future practices! For those interested, here are a few pointers about the dance we came up with:
Step 1:
Leg heights on scuff have been relatively consistent and good, but both legs and toes should be more pointed. The first scuff should take the entire body position diagonally left and the subsequent shuffle should be done 45 degrees towards the right. These two angles repeat until the end of the step.
Step 2:
We decided on ‘raven’ style round shuffles at the end of the step.
Step 3:
Initial rounded scuffs should be done with larger circles of the leg. Toes need to be pointed throughout the step.
Step 4:
The toe digs behind & in front should stretch as far as possible. Keep toes pointed throughout when possible.
Step 5:
First half of final step: body position moves diagonally left & right, but the head should be pointed forwards at all times. The step should end with a straight ‘irish’ style leg.
We’ll go through all of this on Monday so hopefully it will all become clear!
Thanks,
Ellie
Hi All
Hope the clog perfection went well on Tuesday! Slightly later business
email than usual, but lots of exciting things coming up in the future! A
few new invites (Cambridge Folk Festival, Sue's/Pearfield Road Street Party
and Dance around the World) and some old ones as well that we should
probably try to respond to pretty soon...
We have been invited to *Cambridge Folk Festival* on the first weekend in
*August* - more details coming soon. It's only an hour away, so super easy
for us to get to!
Then onto *September* - we have the current invite to the *London Folk
Festival on 7th *September, we have been before and enjoyed it. Am
currently looking for a bit more info on what they'd like us to do, as we
would be unlikely to be able to do something in the evening. Would be good
to support as our local festival
Sue has invited us to her/*Pearfield road street party*! on* 8th September* and
has invited us to a BBQ as well. She would also like us to dance at about
2pm but otherwise we can join the street party / investigate other pubs if
we wished. Sue does need an answer asap, as otherwise she will want to find
another team... Partners and family welcome. Sue please do add any info
that I've missed
Appreciate that both of these are the day after each other, so please say
if you could do both/could do one if the other one wasn't happening / feel
free to express a preference as that will help us work out what we can do!
I know we partly went through this on Monday with those that were there,
but I don't think I quite fully captured everyone's answers fully...
And finally *October*, as well as our special invite to Northgate's *Bath
Time *on 26th October, we have also been invited to the *Dance around the
World Festival *in C# that weekend. It is pretty much what it says on the
tin, a festival celebrating all sorts of dances from around the world! We
went a couple of years ago which was fun - you get free entry to the entire
weekend as a performer and we would do a 20min spot at some point. Given
Bath Time, I would propose that we do the Sunday 27th. Again with this one
if you are a one or the other please do say and feel free to express a
preference if you have one and only want to do one of them.
Sign-up sheet is here - you all know what to do! Don't forget to sign-up
for the crawl on 27th June as well while you're there - still a few maybes
and no-replies there.

Just wanted to say I was really pleased with the response to injecting energy into the dance. It just goes to show we can all do it if we think about it! I know it's harder if you're not 100% confident but yesterday looked so much better than Thursday for just energy, buzz, everything 🙂
If there is anything that I talked about/ideas you have for improving it and want to give it some time please let me know.
Also big shout out to Tori for her first tumble in a long time 😄
See some of you tonight and everyone else next week.
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Absences: Fliss, Hannah TD, Hannorah and Rachel
Anyone else, please let me know asap. Ellie I know you weren't very well last week, hope you're feeling a little better!
Tonight:
Clog 7-7.30 ideally we're at the running through phase, or getting there, so that tomorrow we can be relatively focused. We'll also decide on times for tomorrow. Have we got music??
Rapper 7.30-9.30
Ideally I'd like to give a couple of people a go at tumbling at the start.
Continue working on Jubilee different positions etc. and if possible Westerhope.
I'd like to have a general discussion about style. Watching the dancing on Thursday made me think I need to articulate the energy of our style to people. I know some of this comes with confidence but we all need to be making an effort to inject the energy all the time. The sets shouldn't need certain people in them to make sure energy runs throughout, but that seems to be where we are at the moment. Quite happy to fun through key moments where this can come through in physical movements.
Continue work with HTD, Tori and Ellie. As well as give me and Hannah a chance at running through as 2/3/4 doing the original dance - for me it seems a long and distant memory. I also think once that's refreshed it'd be worth mixing the set up a bit so that everyone knows how it should feel.
Anything else, please let me know.
Thanks,
Becky
