Here's a video of the clog dance I was failing to teach! It's called (or
rather I call it) Ottawa waltz and makes a bit more sense with the music!
The tune is Crested Hen's but I imagine other French Canadian/French tunes
might also work.
Thanks,
Ellie

Hi All,
Thanks for all the super efforts at the Burns Night ceilidh with
everything. The dancing went down well and we made over £1000 which is
going towards DART.
*Coming up this week* we have the dilly crawl on Thursday around Kennington
so watch out for details from Ellie. If you aren't in the dilly set but
fancy coming out that would be lovely. (We raised £131 on the last one)
Sunday 2nd we have the dilly day practice at 33 Oval Road, NW1 7EA 11-5.
Various things on sign-ups below. We do need to be sorting out what we want
to do for the Summer now. We have an additional feature where Martin and
Will are getting fewer available dates as they are accepting gigs if we
aren't committed to stuff. So we are at risk of not having a musician.
*Urgent Response Required Invites*
Priddy not too sure at the mo, but could the following people try and put a
Yes/No on by the end of the week please:
Clare, Emma R, Emma S, Hannah TD, Hannorah, Joanna, Laura, Fliss, Emma H
Broadstairs - could the following people put a Yes/No on by the end of the
week please:
Clare, Emma R, Hannah TD, Joanna, Rachel-Anne, Laura, Hannorah,
*New Invites:*
Beverley Fringe 19-21st June - this replaces the Beverley Folk Festival
which folded a couple of years ago after the funding was pulled. The are
very happy for us to just go and hit the pubs or be programmed instead if
we prefer (would suggest hitting the pubs...)
*Declined Invites:*
Ossett Beer Cart is a No - we don't have enough to commit now and they are
chasing us on it.
7 Champs Ale is also a No
*Other Invites:*
St Patrick's Pub gig, ideally they would like us to do an hour of music and
dance - we can pick the time that suits us. After that we could hit a few
more pubs if people fancy it/want more of an outing? This is paid gig, and
a repeat one, so responding reasonably soon would be ideal...
Otherwise, please generally sign-up to stuff. If it is easier scribbling on
my paper copy at practice, then please do! I'm sure by next week there will
be something else we are being chased on..

Hello folks,
Absences: Hannah TD, Laura W, Rachel-Anne. Katherine is a maybe. Miriam you were a no but I don't think you've been able to go to China??
Anyone else, let me know.
7-7.30 Clog: Old clog, grow in confidence, make sure the shuffles etc. are all really measured and not rushing. New clog, similar. Grow in confidence and try not to make mistakes!
7.30-8.30 Working on dances generally, good opportunity for people to build confidence on positions. Ideally we'll have a dilly group, although with absences this might be tricky so might not be able to spend as much time as I'd like on it. If you have anything you want to work on please let me know.
8.30-9.30 breaking out into dilly and westerz groups. We will need someone to cover no. 3 in westerhope, although can obviously fake the tumble!
Reminder that the crawl this week is for Dilly set, although you are 100% welcome if you fancy a few pub trips.
Thanks,
Becky
Hi guys,
This Friday is Burns Night ceilidh - I think you have all the info from Hannah but just wanted to flag positions etc. as I won't be there on the night.
We're going to do one full spot going Jubilee, Clog, Westerhope (please figure out a plan of passing swords between people before you perform - ideally Sue will pass lock to a none clog dancer pre- clog (Fliss!?). And then they will have them ready to hand out for Westerhope.
Jubilee:
1 Emma H
2 Emma R
3 Hannah
4 Miriam
5 Fliss
Clog:
Emma H, Tori and Hannah N (old clog not new). Sue, remember it's a clog dance from the North East of England, known as Sunderland.
Westerhope:
1 Emma H
2 Flo
3 Hannah N
4 Tori
5 Miriam
6 Fliss
Please remember to go on and off smartly, it's an important part of the performance and one of the things we normally do really well!
Obviously, happy for you to swap numbers if makes more sense on the night but this is my attempt to keep it fair (sorry to Emma H, and Hannah in particular!).
Have a wonderful evening and sorry I won't be there. Tori, if you want money for another raffle prize let me know!
Becky xx
Hi All,
Here's your shiny update for the week.
1. Burns Night
2. Day practice dates
3. DERT - spare train ticket anyone?
4. Sign-ups
*1. Burns Night *Ceilidh on Friday in the London Welsh Centre. Please be
there ready to dance by 2030 at the latest - our spot will be at 9 and we
don't really have many spare dancers... Raffle and coin rolling in the 10pm
break. Thank you to the door volunteers (Miriam, Hannorah and Sue - I'll
probably help out too so we can share it between us) - if you could be
there at 1915 as doors are at 1930. If anyone fancies helping out with
decorating, feel free to come early as well.
*2. Day practice dates *have changed. Piccadilly will now be on 2nd Feb
(not 8th) in 33 Oval Road, NW1 7EA. Westerhope will now be on 8th Feb (not
15th) in the usual hall.
*3. DERT *- We have a *spare ticket on the 1803 to DERT* if anyone wants it
and hasn't booked - need to have either 16-25 or 26-30 railcard. Let me
know if you want it! Trains home still can't be booked, but am keeping my
eyes peeled...
There is a spare ticket for evening, but think Jo wants this. However
evening tickets should be released soon should anyone want to bring someone
that they haven't previously mentioned.
*4. Sign-ups* After Friday we have nothing in our calendars. it would be a
real shame to get to the end of the year and to have not really done much
beyond crawls. However, we can't go to anything unless you sign up to
things. I know it is a quieter year having done basically all the major
festivals over the last two years, but there are still things that would be
fun to do. So pleas actually fill in the sign up sheet.
The things I think we would probably enjoy most as a team (and there are
probably others) on there are the following.
- 27th June St Albans Folk Festival - dancing in the pubs and potentially
joining the mass dance if we want to. About 20min fast train from St Pancras
- 10th-12th July Priddy Folk Festival - daytime dance spots, Saturday night
ceilidh spot. Priddy is south of Bristol in the Mendips - about 4hrs away
by public transport. Sounds like a nice festival. (Gus from Northgate
invited us)
- 5th September London Folk Festival in C# House, probably day time.
In other news confirming the St Patricks day stuff is pretty much up to us
on timings and how much dancing we do, so we could investigate lining this
up with either a bit of a crawl or visiting some of the greeneking pubs
that the guy on the crawl invited us to as well. Though i would rather get
a feel for what people would do before organising a whole load of stuff.
More info next week.
Richie's family (Fliss) have invited us to Thriplow Daffodil Festival 28/29
March (Gogs and Cambridge Morris Men usually go), this is the weekend
before DERT in case anyone was wondering. The nearest train station is
Foxton from where we might be able to organise some lifts. There are some
indoor places we can dance or join in with the Morris teams outdoors. Could
just do a day.
Thanks,
Hannah

Hi guys,
Absences: As far as I can remember this is just Rachel? Anyone else let me know.
7-7.30 First 15 mins old clog, last 15 min new clog. Making sure we're happy for either on burns night.
7.30-8.30 This time will be spent prepping for burns night and generally continuing on with dancing.
I'd like to spend some time with alternative dilly set, in this case: 1 Fliss, 2 HTD, 3 Laura, 4 Tori (unless you hate the idea!) 5 Rachel-Anne
Then the second half will be spent split into dilly/westerz sets.
Fliss can you access notation on g drive or do you want this sending?
Thanks,
Becky
Hello,
Westerhope needs to reschedule and we're hoping we can swap westerhope to the 8th Feb and Piccadilly to the 2nd Feb.
Particular for westerhope side, please confirm asap. Also, as we might not be able to get the hall on the 2nd, if anyone has hall suggestions? Fliss I know you mentioned your office. If there was a way of checking that just in case it would be useful.
You can just reply to me rather than everyone!
Thanks,
Becky

Hi All,
Quick update for the week:
1. Crawl
2. Whittlesea
3. Sign-ups
4. AOB
*1. Crawl Thursday in Clapham. * Meeting at The Clapham North (opposite
tube station of same name), we have a table booked from 7pm under Rachel.
Please be there by 1915 in kit and ready to go so we can start at 1930. If
possible would Ellie/Katherine be willing to lend petticoats afterwards for
the weekend (I can take care of them)?
*2. Whittlesea Straw Bear on Saturday*. Please be there by 10 latest. Car
drivers please let your passengers know what time to meet you (and if
necessary provide an address). Groupings as emailed last week (Clare and I
may swap) - if you aren't sure where you should be, ping me a message.
The Manor Leisure centre opens at 0930 for wrist band / map / schedule
collection. Becky is hoping to be able to collect this for all of us, and
if successful we can meet at the first spot of the day which is at Queen St
Methodist URC / Homme Nouveau. We have a scheduled lunch break of about 40
mins. Dancing should finish around 1445 (I think) and the straw bears will
be dancing at 1530 if you wish to see them.
We'll work out who is going in who's car or whatever once there based on
how people feel - but there is enough car space around.
Forecast looks a bit chilly, so be prepared for staying warm outside (as
well as having to pile it all of in the pub!). We'll try and dance at each
of our official spots where possible, and otherwise hit the pubs. They are
generally pretty happy for us to do our own thing. Watch out for the straw
bears and straw and bear themed things around the town!
*3. Sign-ups* - Please focus on the following two events n particular:
- Priddy Folk Festival 11-12 July, dance spots during the day, ceilidh spot
on the Saturday night. The invite cam through from Gus in Northgate. More
info about the festival itself here: http://www.priddyfolk.org/
- London Folk Festival 5 September at Cecil Sharp House. I anticipate this
being a day time thing as I don't think we have a musician available for
the evening.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
*4. AOB*
- Party at 48 Mountain House, SE11 5NW for any that will to celebrate
Clare's birthday. 1930 ish onwards. If it helps with Saturday transport,
you are more than welcome to stay over.
See you soon!
Hannah
