Here's a video of the clog dance I was failing to teach! It's called (or
rather I call it) Ottawa waltz and makes a bit more sense with the music!
The tune is Crested Hen's but I imagine other French Canadian/French tunes
might also work.
Thanks,
Ellie

Hi guys,
I hope you've all survived the week ok. Existing almost entirely within my flat is becoming the new normal but I'm still looking forward to our weekly catch-up tomorrow!
Last week I just wanted to make sure everyone could use the tech and we could all say how we are and everything. This week there are some things we need to achieve so I've come up with this agenda.
Scroll for the two meeting links, one at 7.30, second at 8.10.
1. Subs - with it being such a weird time we understand not everyone has an income and wouldn't want subs to contribute to stress or financial ruin. We want to continue to pay the church, so if your income is unaffected please do continue with subs, but if you need to cancel that's absolutely fine. You don't need to ask permission, but please do let Emma know so she can make sure we'll be ok! (Basically, I'm just going to say this again tomorrow haha)
2. Stepping - I could do a stepping video for people if people would use it?
3. What the hell have the Dilly set been up to?
4. DERT - we need to brainstorm the different categories! My thoughts are in blue, but they are just thoughts, all ideas welcome!
* Stepping I would suggest the DERT set organises this amongst themselves) 👣 nnjnj
Each team will need to submit the following videos: Stepping for 4 x 4s, 2 x 8s, 2 x trains, 2 x Jonty, 1 x 16, 2 x double step.
The videos don’t have to be from the same person, but the videos needs to be clear and crisp (no music).
Round 1 – stepping for 4
Round 2 – Stepping for 8
Round 3 – Stepping for 16
Round 4 – Stepping in Trains
Round 5 – Stepping in Jonties
The videos will be posted as poll with each round being a knockout. In the event of a tie we will use the double step videos.
* Music 🎶
Each team will submit their favourite tune or song (doesn’t have to be folk).
This list will then be voted on. We’ll also create a Spotify playlist so you can listen to make your decision.
* Character I would suggest Paul does something magical and stand-up 🤡
Teams must submit a video of their best Tommy routine lasting no more than 2 minutes.
Do not include a song, we just want the jokes – feel free to Tommy an imaginary dance.
Again, we’ll do this in the form of knockout rounds.
* Tyzack Trophy Ideas have so far ranged from "a bee" to something about vibrators! Anyone got any other ideas LOL🐝
A team member must find something that buzzes and record it buzzing as a video.
We’ll then post the videos against each other as polls in knockout rounds.
* Best Solo Rapper Performance Up for suggestions, but DERT set might already have figured out
You have heard if two person rapper, you have even heard of six person rapper, but this is even better - no risk of your kit not matching or you stepping being out of time! And do you even need swords?!
This can be anything from a figure, to a whole dance. If we can identify what figures you are trying to recreate then you are definitely nailing it!
*
Best use of Steep Hill, without being there.
Steep Hill is a steep hill in Lincoln, and this was going to be our DERT 2020 extra competition. Now it has risen (steeply) from the ashes (cobbles) and has resurrected in virtual form.
We are looking for artistic use of angles, perspective, your reactions to barrels of beer rolling down the hill... Extra points for having the skills to make it look like you were actually there. Photos, videos and artwork all welcome
Get scheming guys!

Hello everyone,
This is a strange old time for everyone but as a team we can be a rock for
each other and keep everyone's spirits up with virtual/remote activities.
Becky had the idea to mark our response to this situation in some way. So
I've been thinking about ways to do just that.
We're all scheduled for a zoom meet up on Monday where we can discuss these
things, but my thought was to have regular Monday zoom sessions which might
be used for stepping practice if we can make it work or for general chats.
And we could have "pub session" for Fridays or Saturdays to give our weeks
more structure? If people like the sound of that, drinking game ideas would
be welcome (I've got one - The Ministry of Supplies - did anyone else play
that game at school?). And we seem to be a very crafty group, so if people
would like a mid week craft-a-long, that could work. We're also a musical
bunch, so musician sessions might be something we want to try too?
Another thing was to use the whatsapp group to share favourite Raven
memories, events, photos and challenges. I would use these images,
anecdotes and screen grabs of chats to make a virtual "scrapbook" (and in
time another physical one too?).
I know everyone's responses to this situation will be different so I don't
want to assume everyone is happy to have their chats and images captured.
Please let me know if you'd like to opt out of any of these activities. And
if you are happy to participate remember - you don't need to do every
single chat or activity - only join in with what you have the energy for!
Thanks,
Ravens... I love you all. See you Monday.

Hi guys,
Ok, so we can't actually head to the pub, but let's give zoom a go. I've scheduled two meetings, one after the other. I don't think you need all the info. but I've left it in case. It should just be that you follow link 1 for 7.30 and then link 2 for 8.10.
This isn't compulsory but seems a nice way of people keeping in touch if they want to. If people want to try playing or singing feel free, we can join in! Primarily this is just a chat, if we can make stepping practice work we will 🙂
Zoom is totally free to download and should work on any phones or computers. Any problems let the whatsapp chat know and sure someone can help.
Look forward to actually speaking to you. The first rounds on me! Ahahaha...no, pour your own drink lol

Hi All,
As you've probably gathered crawls and practices etc. are cancelled until
further notice.
We're looking into ways in which we can keep in touch to help maintain some
sanity - so look out for this if you would like to virtually hang out with
other Ravens! Possibly virtual practice / drinking when we've tested some
technology! (If nothing else maybe someone can post "Open the gate it's
fucking freezing out here" every Monday at an appropriate time?)
We've cancelled our hotel and train ticket bookings to DERT, just awaiting
refunds and then will ensure that anyone that paid for partners is
reimbursed as well as all the money returning to the Ravens account - will
be in touch once the monies land.
We were due to have our EGM on 6th April after DERT, however given the
current circumstances and the fact that this is usually used for a DERT
debrief and summer planning we are going to postpone until we know when we
can practice.
In terms of other events that have cancelled that we were going to attend:
DART Ceilidh - this will no longer be going ahead, C# House is closed until
the end of May and it just isn't sensible right now
St Albans Folk Festival - they are thinking of rescheduling in the Autumn
if that works out.
Surrey Docks Spring Fair - assume this won't be happening given the date
and everything.
Otherwise, I guess given we were in for a quieter Spring / early Summer
there won't be too many other cancellations coming in for the time being,
but will keep you posted if there are any updates.
Do keep in touch - we've got the Ravens WhatsApp to help keep us all
entertained and see you all on the other side once this passes.
Hannah

Subject: [TR Committee] DERT 2020 - Sad News
To: info(a)dert2020.co.uk <info(a)dert2020.co.uk>
Hello All,
Following today's government briefing, it is with the greatest sadness that
I have to confirm what many of you may now be expecting.
DERT 2020 is cancelled.
Today's government announcement was a surprise, we had thought that we
would probably be able to run DERT, even in a scaled down manner, and that
our contingency plan of preparing to move the competition online was just a
sensible 'worst case scenario' to have, but now we cannot even do that.
We are setting up a virtual DERT Showcase (just for fun) which will run
over Saturday 4th April to keep everyone entertained while we aren't
allowed to get together. It is going to be much smaller than we thought as
we now don't have time to ask you all to record 6 competition standard
videos 'just in case'. Instead, what we would like is a video of your
choice, which we will schedule over the course of the day (not judged). We
would like everyone, including the Traditional, the Veterans, and DERTy
teams (if you have permission to post online videos) to have a video.
We are so disappointed for all of you, after all the work that goes into
preparing all your dances for DERT, the crawls, the practices, the mad
showcase ideas.
I can hardly believe that I am sending out this email, and I am so sorry
that this year's DERT isn't going ahead.
We have 576 cups in the spare room, and a box of t-shirts en route, badges
in production, gin being labelled, beer being brewed... We will be in touch
with people who have pre-ordered merchandise and post it out when we can.
I'm so sorry,
Lynne

Tower Ravens Committee and Info List

Hi all,
Hopefully you have all received the whatsapp and know practice is not happening.
The government has said we have to avoid unnecessary social contact and travel. As much as we all love rapper, I think we know it's not strictly necessary!
I'll keep in touch. We'll meet up when we can 🙂
Keep safe everyone and keep sane, whatsapp is always there for sharing thoughts and raven facts etc!
Love,
Becky
Hi All,
*Coming up this week:*
- Joint Crawl on Friday, look out for details from Hannorah. Please be
there ready to dance at 1915. We'll be wanting to be quite efficient like
last time to get through a good number of dances.
- Saturday Dilly day practice. Hall is booked 10-4, but if we wish to have
a slightly different time, am sure we can
Hopefully you've all seen Becky's email about Covid-19, if you have any
concerns, please let one of us know
*Sign-ups:*
*New:*
Very excitingly, Joanna & Larry are getting married on 15th June, and would
like us to join them in the evening for a dance and drinks. It will be in
Stoke Newington on 15th June (Monday)
*Cancelled*:
Firstly, please note the Thriplow Daffodil Festival is cancelled due to
Covid-19, but they would like us to try and go next year if we are free.
*Other*:
23rd April - Ceilidh with TR to fundraise for DART - please do fill in the
sign up sheet, the plan is that we do the interval sport... If you're able
to do the odd share of the post as well to help push tickets that would be
grand!
2nd May - Spring Farm Fair. The dance spots they had before were on the
hard ground near the craft stalls and in the field, we'd only be able to do
the first of these I suspect. From the sounds of it, it would be flexible
in terms of how much dancing, most likely between 12-3 sometime.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
*Kit*
If you have any kit issues please let me know - no matter how small. There
might be some small fixes to some things that we can arrange - including
sparkles for all! For things needing more work than we have time for, we
can arrange some swaps for competition time.
So far I have: Emma S (basically all of it), BS / KR sashes. Hannah TD
another bit of velcro on the sash. I think there are a couple of people
missing petticoats as well - though doubt we'll be making those before
DERT!
Thanks,
Hannah
