We are mentioned twice in a long thread by Simon Care on the Facebook page: Celebrating Cotswold Morris: which team would you like to be in?

Hello Ravens,
Received this email from Mike. Were there enough people to do this?

Subject: The Ravens and my 70th.
Hi Laura
I believe Simon Vaughan contacted you about the possibility of The Ravens
dancing at my party on the 27th of February?
Do you think it’s possible that could be arranged? All of the side and
partners would be welcome as guests of course so would be able to enjoy the
rest of the evening which will include some fine singing and some ceilidh
dancing, as well as hot food etc.
It would be great if that were possible and I would be grateful if you could
let me know.
Cheers.
Mike
Yesterday was really useful :)
Me and that wall are best friends lol.
See you all next week :)

Hello all,
Quick thank you to everyone who came last night for the stepping practice, I hope everyone found it useful and has lots of things to go away and practice.
We decided to have next weeks crawl somewhere other than Victoria as Thrales are crawling there this week and we think it will make getting pubs harder. Laura W. is that ok?Are you able to organise a different area fairly easily?
Kate, Laura W. and Jo can you confirm if you can do the dance spot on 27th Feb? Simon has confirmed that Thrales can't do it so it'd be great to know if we can manage it.

Think that is all for now, see you next week!

Hey all
Thank you to everyone who came last night, I hope you found it useful.
I am hoping to have 2 sets up next week, if all regular members come we can
have 2 sets and get twice as much done! (Jo I know you can't make it).
Please let me know if you can't come.

Hello all,
Is anyone bringing cake tonight? (If not I’ll pick some up before Weatherspoons)
Thank you to everyone who came to the crawl last week, lots of good dancing and lots of thing to work on!
Tonight Ru is coming to help us with stepping. If there is anything specifically you would like to ask about or work on let me know and I’ll make sure we cover it.
See you later
Kx
I emailed Medlock about the trad dance. Tom replied with some links that may prove useful for the main competition too.

Hi Laura,
Thanks for getting in touch. Sophie has passed on your email for me to answer.
Here are two documents on the website with a bit more information:http://www.dert2016.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Entry-Policy-Version-6.0.pdfhttp://www.dert2016.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/DERT2016_MarkingCriteria.pdf
I hope that these two documents answer most of your questions. With regards to kit, there has always been more marks awarded to those teams who have adapted their kit to suit the dance they are doing, however in practice, most teams don't go all out. If you make an attempt to refer to the kit suggestions which are in the notations, this will be looked on more favourably but is not the be all and end all.
As you can see from the criteria, half of the marks are available for accuracy to your chosen notation, and half are available on the quality of the dance. Therefore in reality, the kit is a very small part of it.
I hope this helps.CheersTom

Subject: DERT trad
Hey Sophie,
Hope you're feeling much better since the last time we spoke. I may have mentioned at the time that I am supposed to be teaching the trad dance in preparation for Dert (!). I had a look on the site for any information about how the judges will be marking and the criteria, etc. I could only find one paragraph. Is there any more information available for this? I also noticed that the paragraph described the competition as a "historical re-enactment". Do we have to try to be exact, or can we add our own interpretation? E.g. If we're not wearing the costume as described in the historical notes, will we be marked down? Hopefully we won't be penalised for being girls!
Any information you can give would be really appreciated! Thanks.

Hello all,
Just letting everyone
know what the plans are for the trad dance. If you don't want to know
about my thought process, then ignore the first part and go to part
B.
PART A
The possible figures
listed for Westerhope are:
Single guard
Jigging guard
Tipping guard
Fourth corner
Chain
Back over knot (back
lock)
Cramper
Double cramper
Curly
Right and left (curlys
with figure of 8)
Fast knot (curlys and
fig. 8 and wrong side curly)
Gymnac (fourth corner
with a double tumble)
Crown (everyone tumbles
one after the other)
Traditionally, the
Westerhope team used to dance 8 figures with a single guard and lock
in-between each figure. Or, for stage performances, they would drop
the single-guard chorus (because it would take so long) and just do
more figures.
Realistically, we won't
be doing figures with a double tumble or 5 person tumble.
There's lots of curly
type figures, and two crampers.
If we aim to do all
figures which are not curlys or crampers, and then have one curly
figure and one cramper., this would equal only 8 figures. So we
should probably add another to make it more than the minimum 8.
The dance requires that
a 6th person joins for the last 3 figures. The only figures that work
with 6 people are:
Single guard
A curly figure
Jigging guard
Back lock
Perhaps a cramper
figure? And I wouldn't want to try a 4 person chain...
This explains Sinead's
choice for the last 3 figures, and perhaps best to keep it the same.
PART B
So, my thoughts for the
Westerhope dance structure is:
>From a line
1. Single-guard
2. Curly (or Right &
Left)
3. Fourth corner
4. Double cramper
5. Chain
6. Tipping guard
6th person join on:
7. Fast knot (or Right &
Left)
8. Jigging guard
9. Back lock
Display and finish in a
line
I suppose it doesn't
matter too much what order the figures are, but I was trying to
spread out the curlys and crampers because they look similar. If
anyone has any other preferences then let me know. Thanks,
Laura

That's still a chunky amount of money! Considering some pretty empty pubs and some rather ungiving people I think we should be happy! Next crawl we aim to beat it?
Thanks all for coming along and getting picadilly out and danced. Also nikki say thanks to ozzy, especially on an instrument he didn't know how to play!
See you all on monday for stepping practice :-)
And ffion and Laura sorry for not making it tonight. If I wasn't off to straw bear so early tomorrow I'd definitely be there! Hope it went really well.

Well you're all quite close but as usual Hannah is uncannily close. Coming to the conclusion that she has psychic powers!
£143.60 plus 3 USD and 3 hugs.
I was slightly disappointed because I hoped for more (money not hugs) but maybe I'm just getting greedy after the last two outings. It's still a great total and more than that, it was a marvellous opportunity to practise the Jubilee.
Onwards and upwards!
