Hi All,
Quick update for the week:
1. Crawl
2. Whittlesea
3. Sign-ups
4. AOB
*1. Crawl Thursday in Clapham. * Meeting at The Clapham North (opposite
tube station of same name), we have a table booked from 7pm under Rachel.
Please be there by 1915 in kit and ready to go so we can start at 1930. If
possible would Ellie/Katherine be willing to lend petticoats afterwards for
the weekend (I can take care of them)?
*2. Whittlesea Straw Bear on Saturday*. Please be there by 10 latest. Car
drivers please let your passengers know what time to meet you (and if
necessary provide an address). Groupings as emailed last week (Clare and I
may swap) - if you aren't sure where you should be, ping me a message.
The Manor Leisure centre opens at 0930 for wrist band / map / schedule
collection. Becky is hoping to be able to collect this for all of us, and
if successful we can meet at the first spot of the day which is at Queen St
Methodist URC / Homme Nouveau. We have a scheduled lunch break of about 40
mins. Dancing should finish around 1445 (I think) and the straw bears will
be dancing at 1530 if you wish to see them.
We'll work out who is going in who's car or whatever once there based on
how people feel - but there is enough car space around.
Forecast looks a bit chilly, so be prepared for staying warm outside (as
well as having to pile it all of in the pub!). We'll try and dance at each
of our official spots where possible, and otherwise hit the pubs. They are
generally pretty happy for us to do our own thing. Watch out for the straw
bears and straw and bear themed things around the town!
*3. Sign-ups* - Please focus on the following two events n particular:
- Priddy Folk Festival 11-12 July, dance spots during the day, ceilidh spot
on the Saturday night. The invite cam through from Gus in Northgate. More
info about the festival itself here: http://www.priddyfolk.org/
- London Folk Festival 5 September at Cecil Sharp House. I anticipate this
being a day time thing as I don't think we have a musician available for
the evening.

*4. AOB*
- Party at 48 Mountain House, SE11 5NW for any that will to celebrate
Clare's birthday. 1930 ish onwards. If it helps with Saturday transport,
you are more than welcome to stay over.
See you soon!
Hannah
Hello all,
As promised last night I’ve made the world’s simplest spreadsheet for the Burns Night raffle. If you are able to donate a prize please stick it in the spreadsheet. Hopefully can inspire some interest beforehand if we can let people know there will be fabulous prizes!
Spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1d8tAeYKowJUs99Qp_KHsUUB0ndjyYzpVOu-…
Thanks!
Tori
This is not philosophical, we all need them. In fact, I know a fair few of us need them!
Can someone else check out this link and see if they look good to them?

People I'm vaguely aware of:
Becky
Emma H
Hannah TD
Katherine
I'll ask at practice, but if you need shoes and won't be there tonight please email to let me know, I'm thinking we could buy a batch in one go?
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Absences: I think just Jo? Clare, assume even if you're coming you wouldn't be dancing. Hannah TD can you send me the dates you won't be here?
Anyone else, just let me know.
7-7.30 Start with old clog, followed by new. We should have more people this week to take up old!
7.30-8.30 Prepping for straw bear and any other learning. This includes Emma at 1 in Westerz and Miriam at 5 in Jubilee, as well as me at 4 in Dilly. Anything else, please let me know!
8.30-9.30 we will move to dilly and westerz sets with myself and Fliss leading.
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
As pointed out by Will, there are some engineering works making travel to
Whittlesea a bit more of a pain than it should be...
So options:
1. 0712 train to Whittlesea
2. Indoor camping at Sir Harry Smith School, PE7 1XB costs £7.50 pppn and
we need to let them know ASAP.
3. Drive - if we have enough people able to offer lifts from either London
or some train station in that direction.
Martin will be driving so can take 4 people. Are there others that will be
or could drive? And if you are able to offer a lift, where would it be
from? There are currently 14 yeses, though I know Becky will already be
there.
*Please let me know any preferences on the 3 options above and whether you
can offer lifts. We can do a combo of them depending on what people
want/are able to offer.*
*Also if you are a maybe can you pick Yes / No please as I need to sort
ticket numbers (as well as the above logistics...)*
Trains home at 1558 and 1727/1758 are the best options for trains home
unless lift sharing.
Our first dance spot is at 1045, but we need to be there in good time
before that - parking is a bit of a mare. We also need to collect our
wristbands from the Manor Leisure Centre. Last spot finishes at 1445. I
don't think we're in the final spot, but the Bears Dance at 1530 which is
probably worth watching, though if we need to head for trains/cars then I
guess we are dictated by that. In the evening there is a ceilidh Saturday
night if anyone wants to go to it, you can get tickets on the Strawbear
website.
In terms of parking there is a free park and ride from the Sir Harry Smith
School to near the Manor on Saturday. May be others, but not too familiar
with the area!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
Bit later than usual with the old business email.
1. Kit
2. Sign-ups
3. Burns Night
4. AOB
Hopefully you've seen the email about Whittlesea / Strawbear logistics, any
Q's let me know and I'll send the final version and more details about the
day next week.
Thanks for all the responses on trains for DERT, we are mostly there now
for getting there and tickets home should be out soon.
1. Kit - If you borrowed something before Christmas please return it. If
you are able to lend any kit to Emma S please bring it along on Monday (or
Thursday if you are dancing on the crawl). If anyone else is missing kit
please shout asap - I suspect we might be down two petticoats (Hannorah and
Clare) and one full set (Emma S) for next weekend. I have two skirts and
the manky sash which I'll bring on Monday to see if any of that can be used.
2. As you know the Burns Night Ceilidh on 24th January has sold out and so
there is profit, which is going towards the DART fund. So if you are going
to DART (or even if you aren't and would like to) we need a couple of
volunteers to do the doors and someone to organise the raffle. I'm happy to
sort the coin rolling unless anyone is desperate to (I may need a reminder
on the rules!) Email me or Martin if you are able to help with any of these
things.
3. Sign ups. In terms of Summer events, I think the two that we should
focus attention on are (though obviously please do fill out anything and
everything on there):
- Priddy Folk Festival 11-12 July, dance spots during the day, ceilidh spot
on the Saturday night. The invite cam through from Gus in Northgate. More
info about the festival itself here: http://www.priddyfolk.org/
- London Folk Festival 5 September at Cecil Sharp House. I anticipate this
being a day time thing as I don't think we have a musician available for
the evening.

4. AOB
- We made and amazing £740 on the Christmas crawl! (In case anyone missed
that)
- Friday (10th) - Mari Llywd. Ffion and Martin are organising / running and
will be doing the twmpath (ceilidh) at the Welsh centre after
- Saturday (11th) Becky's (30th) birthday party in the Hercules just
opposite Lambeth station from 7
- Next Friday 17th - Clare's birthday party at our flat in Vauxhall. All
welcome, there will be some food and booze, more details to come. And
anyone welcome to stay over if that helps with getting to Strawbear
See you soon!
Hannah
Hello all,
Absences: Clare, Flo, Hannorah, Rachel-Anne, Emma S, Tori, Fliss
Rachel if you could remind me where we are with you and Dan?
Laura, I know you are aiming to come back baby-allowing, message we with any thoughts!
Thanks for everyone who has been in touch, if there is anyone else please let me know!
Now we are in the new year and can contemplate the next few months, can you please let me know if there are any Monday's you will miss pre-DERT?
7-7.30 Clog: Recap of old clog for first 15 mins and then recap of new clog for last 15. It would be useful to have both of these dance-able for straw bear. Might be useful if we need a speedy outside number but don't want hands to fall off!
7.30-9.30
1.Go over straw bear numbers and generally wipe away the cobwebs. I know there are various people not there tonight who are then at straw bear so we'll do the process again next week.
2. First piccadilly crawl is next week. For this to be worth it we need some time to practice both weeks. This week, we might not have a second set due to absences, so if we push that to the second half people can go home if we don't have a full set and they don't simply want to watch rapper. Having said that, it is super-helpful to have at least one person watching so we know what is right or wrong (we often make Sue do it!).
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
There are cheap trains already available for the Friday night, Sunday still
not out but should be very soon. We're in the process of snapping up early
evening tickets for those that want them, if you haven't yet shouted and
would like to take that train please let us know and we'll add you on.
There is an afternoon train which is super cheap at £9.25 with railcard at
1406 arriving 1601 - so if you want to travel in the afternoon then that's
a good option.
There are later evening trains, but they aren't as cheap, to answer Fliss'
Q.
*So, if you can let me know what train you would like to take, and your
railcard if you have one - please fill in the joyful spreadsheet here*:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14dVIjC84A5GZKa3ngXuRlyJlIiy_vnUrKPF…
I'm happy to sort bookings for anyone that fills in the spreadsheet (1803
and 1406 are the ones that make most sense for us to sort), though if you
would prefer to sort yourself then that's fine too. Clare and Ffion I have
assumed you'll sort yourselves as you're not coming from London - hope
that's ok!
Tickets for the Sunday aren't yet available, but we'll just book everyone
on the same train, probably at around 1pm - gives plenty of time for a lazy
brunch (or participating in the workshop) and for a couple of us to go to
the DERT Reps meeting. If you have any specific requirements on this let me
know ☺
Thanks,
Hannah
