Hello all,
Just got back from a lovely weekend in York! We faced some fairly torrential rain but managed to get some good dancing in, and the sun came out for us today :)
In the meantime Ru has been in touch re. a musician for clogging on Wednesday as she can recommend some tunes. I know we've been uncertain about this so can I see if we have anyone? I've asked Ru if we actually need one so will let you all know. If we don't have anyone please be thinking of anyone we could ask.
Answers ASAP would be very useful, by tomorrows practice is a must.
We need to decline Blackheath Morris as we don't have a side so have emailed them.
See you tomorrow folks,
Becky xx
Dear all!
Sue has pointed out that I was daft and said Blackheath crawl was friday when in fact it is Thursday!
Please still let me know your availability by the end of sunday.
Have a lovely weekend all :-) xx

Sorry also meant to say Tom of Rockingham has said that his team are staying on for a meal at the last pub and has said we are welcome to join them if we give him numbers.
Personally I will probably be thinking of heading back to London but let me know what everyone going thinks.
Cheers!
Becky xx
Hello all,
1. What to bring to clogging practice on Wednesday 10th2. Times of Rockingham's Birthday in Peterborough3. New event on the sign-up sheet
1. We have had the hall confirmed for next Wednesday as our clogging practice (hurrah!) at the usual time of 7.30 to 9.30. I've been in touch with Ru and she recommends people bring clogs (if they have them) or their rapper shoes, water, a notepad for attempting to remember instructions and something to record the stepping on - so if someone could bring a decent phone or ipad that'd be great.
I'm going to meet her before practice and will probably try and take her to the Cross Keys before hand if anyone wants to join, but I will try and confirm that.Jo has ordered her a thankyou gift from her amazon wishlist, it's a book about rapper! We may take additional collection for this, or it might come out of subs- thoughts Jo?
2. In Peterborough we are meeting in the Drapers arms next Saturday at around 10.30. It's very close to the train station so I probably recommend we just get the 9.30 train. The dancing is set to finish at another pub very close to the station at 4.30 so obviously people can book returns for some time after that. I'm not sure how well dancers stick to times so who knows?
Please follow this very useful link to a map of the route:

3. Lastly Simon Vaughan (Thrales' Betty and general Ravens enthusiast) has invited us to his birthday on the 25th of October for some informal dancing most likely in the Punch Bowl on Fleet Street. He's said we can appear in kit or out and it's more of a get together than any sort of scary performance. Members of Thrales will be there with, I presume, a team, and possibly other rapper dancers. I think most people in the team know Simon, although I wasn't there for it I believe he helped us get started and wrote our Tommy song, and he helped collect last crawl so would be nice to take him up on the offer :)
Please let me know your availability so I can let him know if we actually have a team:

While you're there please look at upcoming events to check if you have given me your availability!
See some of you on Saturday and the rest on Monday for practice :)

So... It turns out I thought Ffion and Laura's gig was the 4th Sept but it's not so in that case I have totally double booked myself for this evening and can't make it. Boo! Have a fantastic evening and sorry not to be there.
Hope to see you all soon

Hi,
(New)
Katherine here! I was learning 5.
Sorry that I
haven’t made many practices this month, the last few weeks have been chaotic (and
I can’t make it tonight as I’m viewing a house) but it’s all settling down now
and I should be able to make normal practices again from next week.

Hi all,
After a fun crawl on Thursday (see film of Flower of Forest dance http://youtu.be/pRnLIZV9aZg) and lots of holidays I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of practices and making lots more progress with this new dance. I've created a draft new dance which is at the end of this email. I'm sure it will need to be edited and refined but at least it's something to work towards. I know we haven't had our session on 'dancing in small and slippery places' yet but I think we should focus on the new dance as much as possible for the next month and make sure we do small and slippery before the October crawl. We'll have another new member tomorrow - an American called Anna who's done some rapper before. Maybe she'll be able to teach us some cool made up American figures! (New) Katherine, can you remember which number you were learning?
1 Sept -
Jubilee reminder with York people: 1) Katherine 2) Laura S, Janet 3) Kat B, Becky 4) Becky, Sinead, 5) Sue.
Beadnell reminder with York people: 1) Katherine 2) Laura S 3) Kat B 4) Becky 5) Sue
Teaching Anna: 1) Jo 2) new Katherine? 3) Rhona 4) Anna 5) Hannorah
New dance - go through the figures we haven't looked at yet: 1) Jo 2) Laura 3) Becky 4) Hannorah 5) Katherine - winlaton spin into needles into triangle lock, "jumpy figure" (don't worry, I know what I mean!)
8 Sept -
Jubilee reminder with Peterborough people: 1) Ffion, Katherine 2) Janet, 3) Becky, Lindsey 4) Hannorah, 5) Sue, Kat B.
Teaching Anna: 1) Jo 2) new Katherine? 3) Rhona 4) Anna 5) Hannorah
New dance - walk all the way through the dance
15 Sept
In this practice I'd like to focus mostly on the new dance - getting 5 people all the way through with music then teaching more people some of the figures. We might also do some work on stepping.
Recap on where we've got to with new members/new positions.
22 Sept
Jubilee reminder with crawl people: 1) Rachel, Katherine, Ffion 2) Laura, Janet, 3) Becky, Lindsey, 4) Sinead, Hannorah 5) Sue, Kat B
Beadnell reminder with Tenterden people: 1) Ffion, Lindsey 2) Laura, Janet 3) Becky 4) hannorah, Sinead 5) Katherine

Teach new members/new positions another few figures.

Perfecting (!) new dance: 1) Ffion, 2) Lindsey 3) Becky 4) Hannorah 5) Katherine
As always, please let me know if you can't be at a practice, especially if your name's on the list. I'm hoping we'll be able to have 2 sets going most weeks from now on.

Turns out we got this useful information regarding York the other day! In my defence I was moving house so I completely forgot.
1. If you have any items of kit, coats, instrument boxes etc that you do not want to carry in the procession we will have someone in Kings Sq from 10am to sit an guard them until you arrive there. 2. We are not supposed to actively collect from the public, but we are allowed to put out collecting "vessels" and ask for donations. Please do! - we will have 4 "donation" hats available. 3. York City Centre is designated an "alcohol free area" on the streets. This does NOT mean you cannot drink alcohol on the streets. What it means is that if you are asked to stop drinking in a public area by a police officer then you MUST - or risk being arrested! Most pubs will not let you take drink out in glasses but will in tankards. Some bar staff will tell you it is an offence to take drink out, or drink alcohol in the street. This is NOT true as explained to me by the licensing officers recently. If you experience difficulties - go to another pub!!!
The times look like quite long slots but we do need travel time in there too to get from one dance spot to the other so hopefully will give us enough time to do a variety of people at different numbers without us all getting tired!
As we can store stuff for the day I am not going to worry about us needing storage lockers.
I will need £10 from everyone on the day for accommodation.
Everyone should bring: sleeping bag,air bed/mat (we don't know how many dance mat things there are)change of clothes for the social!I'm taking wet wipes in an attempt to get less sweaty for said social after dancingif people want tea and coffee they may well have to bring it-there is a kettle at the accommodationtrain tickets!
Please let me know if there is anything else you are unsure of and I will try and find out for you.
