Hi all,
I'm please to say that we finally cracked walk the dog tonight. The secret was to make it slower and simpler! Take a look at this video of silver flame doing it http://youtu.be/b41TzGOo9Sg. Here's the exact break down:
1st phrase) #1 turns out on beat 1, #2 turns out on beat 2, they walk round in a triangle, #1 comes back in on beat 7, #2 comes back in on beat 8
2nd phrase) #2 turns out on 1, #3 turns out on 2, they walk round in a triangle, #2 comes back in on beat 7, #3 comes back in on beat 8
3rd phrase) #3 turns out on beat 1, #4 turns out on beat 2, they walk round in a triangle, #3 comes back in on beat 7, #4 comes back in on beat 8
4th phrase) #4 turns out on beat 1, #5 turns out on beat 2, they walk round in a triangle, #4 comes back in on beat 7, #5 comes back in on beat 8
Everyone who was at the practice tonight managed to get through the figure so I'd like to dance it out on Thursday. I know Hannorah, Nic and Jo won't have done this although you've all tried the faster, more difficult version so I'm hoping, if we find a quiet spot to walk through the figure with you three (not sure if Nic and Jo are coming actually) it will be alright on the night.
Let me know if you've got any questions,
Ffion x
Dear all
Sorry to let you down... Again!! Can't make tonight :( Sorry! And realise I need to organise something social ;) Will add some dates on the doodle poll.... How do people feel about dinner after extra sunday practice 9th Feb?

See you at the crawl on Thursday.

Hi all,
Just to let you know that I've uploaded a few videos to youtube:
Mabel Gubbins day in December http://youtu.be/oqdTHmRUKyg (I've posted this one publicly)
The video Hannorah took on my ipad on Thursday http://youtu.be/pxnTr2K0RkQ (unlisted so only people with this link can see it)
I've made lots of notes about what to work on next from looking at the one from Thursday! If you're in it, see if you can find one thing you'd like to change about your performance to work on next week.
See you on Monday,
Ffion x

Hi all,
Thanks so much to everybody for responding to my questions about DERT.
This is what I have collected. If you think any of it is wrong, let me
know, otherwise I'll make the group booking for the Premier Inn in the next
couple of days.
- - - - -
1. DERT TRANSPORT
By train: Aisha, Jo, Katherine, Sue. Some of you have tickets already, if
you want to agree specific trains I'll leave that to you.
By car: Ffion (+ Patrick), Hannorah and Nikki (+ Ozzy), two spaces each,
driving Becky, Laura S, Nic, Rachel and Sinead. Ffion and Nikki will be
leaving after work, Hannorah is thinking about leaving during the day.
Lindsey - you don't need to come via Leeds, which I'm sure will be a big
relief!
- - - - -
2. DERT ACCOMMODATION
Aisha, Sinead and Katherine will be staying elsewhere.
Those people who want to stay at the Premier Inn are: Becky, Jo, Sue,
Laura S, Nic, Nikki, Ozzy, Rachel, Ffion and Hannorah - which makes ten in
total.
The hotel does twin rooms, however for those of you asking about three
adults in a room, the website doesn't let you select more than 2 in the
drop down, and in the FAQ says: "Premier Inn’s policy does not allow more
than 2 adults to a room therefore you will need to book two rooms or more
if you have three or more adults in your party." So maybe they've changed
the policy recently?
Unless anybody objects, I will be booking 5 rooms - 4 twins and a double -
in the next couple of days. I will then be collecting money from each of
you. Sue, if you want a solo room I can book you that instead, but you'd
have to pay the higher price, and find somebody else who's also prepared to
pay the higher price.
- - - - -
Hope that all makes sense! Laura F - I'm assuming that although I've
bought you a ticket for the showcase, you'll be travelling and staying with
Tom and I don't need to sort that out.

Hi all
In my usual sheep like fashion ;) I am happy to go with the majority which I think at this stage is Premier inn.
Re: transport. If I can grab a lift and share petrol cost then great.
Hopefully see you all tonight if my second Tribunal of the day doesn't finish me off!!

I think the Met Uni is still an option if you'd prefer it, but everybody else who's replied is keener on the Premier Inn, so that's where most of us will be.

Thanks, Ffion, but it is rather a treck. Do we know if Leeds Met is still a possibility?
If not, I'd favour the Premier Inn too

On checking this out, the hostel seems to be a bit of a trek to the centre, and since the premier inn is essentially the same price but central, I think I may book to go in there. Since I'm not coming with my partner, I want to book a twin room to save on costs - this means I'm looking for a slumber buddy. Anyone interested? Just a warning - I'm a bit boring - I don't drink loads and will probably go to bed at a reasonable time. :D
Also, if anyone who is driving can offer me a lift, it would be very much appreciated!

Is this place too far away from the centre? http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Adriatic-Hotel/Leeds/66836?dat…
If we booked all the rooms that would be 12 beds. It would cost a total of £576.00 so £48 per person for the two night, if my maths is correct.

I'm having no luck at all chasing DERT accommodation. There are several Youth Hostels, but can't accommodate 14.
And I find it surprising that it isn't in university term-time.Plenty of trains on the Friday during the day, mostly £13.00, but more expensive for the return fare on the Sunday.

Hi all,
Lots of stuff got discussed on Monday night, so here's a little bit of a
summary:
1. DERT - entry
2. DERT - transport
3. DERT - accommodation
4. Other invites
5. Knickers
6. Subs account details
- - - - -
1. DERT - ENTRY
Our entry for DERT has been accepted. Money has been sent for a team of
Rachel, Jo, Becky, Hannorah, Ffion, Nikki, Laura S and Sue; as well as
spectator evening tickets for Aisha, Katherine, Lindsey, Nic and Sinead.
I've put in a request to get an extra spectator ticket for Laura F and
mentioned that there's a possibility that Ozzy may or may not be going to
play. (I've asked when they definitely need to know that by.) Gonnabe a
good weekend!
- - - - -
2. DERT - TRANSPORT
Train tickets to and from Leeds are going up in price. The cheapest I can
currently find is £70 (no railcard) if you want to leave after work on
Friday. It may be cheaper if you're prepared to take Friday off work or
are more flexible there. We could potentially get a group ticket if more
than 10 were travelling together.
The other alternative we discussed was driving. From a quick show of hands
yesterday, it seemed that Ffion (2 spaces), Hannorah (3 spaces), Nikki (3)
and Lindsey (3) might be persuaded to drive. Two weeks ago Lindsey
mentioned a minibus, but this hasn't been costed yet.
Could all those of you who are coming please reply to this email letting me
know what your preferred method of transport would be.
- - - - -
3. DERT - ACCOMMODATION
Hannorah has very kindly been looking into accommodation and come up with
the Leeds Metropolitan Uni, who have single rooms at £72/2 nights or double
bed rooms at £42/2nights per person. Another option Dan has just mentioned
Thrales were looking into is the Premier Inn, which as twin rooms and would
come out at £51 each for the weekend. Aisha has mentioned that she will be
staying at home, a short train ride away and can put up up to three people
with beds (and dinner!).
Again, if you could all email me with your preferred choice, that'd be
great. We'll be looking to make a group booking in the next week or so, so
I'll need to know where and, more importantly, how many for.
- - - - -
4. OTHER INVITES
As Ffion mentioned in her previous email, it'd be really good to be able to
confirm or deny SOAS. I think this weekend is not going to happen (should
really have realised that earlier!) and I think unless anybody objects I'm
also going to turn down the March date as being the weekend after DERT.
However, 22nd February might work well, so please sign up if you're free.
At the moment we have four number 5s signed up...
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvM6rY7GMmOGdF9vYVIwaXBmXzViSz…
- - - - -
5. KNICKERS
We agreed that Becky and Laura S were going to source knickers for
discussion, in their respective sizes. I think Laura was going to buy the
rhumba ruffly ones and Becky the sequins. We will then consider which we
like best and whether we all want the same or different (which seems to go
backwards and forwards a lot!). Ladies - it'd be good to get those ordered
soon, especially as we'll need something for the tumblers before tumbling
on crawl...
- - - - -
6. SUBS ACCOUNT
I've been requested to send round the details for the Ravens account. I'm
sure Jo would love it if those of you who don't already have a standing
order set one up! Account number 00380515, sort code 070246.
- - - - -
In summary, please let me know:
- how you'd like to travel to DERT and if you're okay to drive
- where you'd like to stay while there
- if you're available for a performance spot on 22nd February (one dance,
Saturday night)
Thanks for getting to the end! See many of you on Thursday.
Rachel xxb
Hi,
Email came through this morning - we are into DERT! We have to submit
those people coming by name, so if you're coming but not yet signed up, do
let me know. It's not 100% clear if we have to pay for hangers-on as well
as performers, but I'm trying to find out about that.

Hi all,
Thanks for a good practice last night and congrats to Rhona and Laura F for getting all the way through the dance.
I didn't spell this out last night so, for those who weren't there last week, here's the plan for the next few months:
Jan = concentrate on getting the beginners ready to dance out on 30 Jan and getting the DERT set slick.
Feb = concentrate on getting the DERT reserve set slick and the DERT set sparkly and shiny.
Here are the allocation of people to sets
DERT set
1) Rachel
2) Jo
3) Becky
4) Hannorah
5) Ffion
T) Sue
Reserve set
1) Lindsey
2) Laura S
3) Aisha
4) Nic
5) Katherine
Learning set
1) Rhona
2) Laura F
3) Jen
4) Carol / Muna
5) Kat
Sinead to teach learning / reserve set with help from Janet and Josie.
And for those of you who like to see the dance written down, here it is...
The dance
Jonty step and clash on 8
Walk round for 8
Walk the dog
Back 8 -> figure of 8
Open ring
Glass
Haymarket
Display the haymarket at front for 8 beats (normal step)
Turn the haymarket around with jonty step
Out into coach and horses (2 and 4 doing special thing)
Flying pixies
Stand in guard
Tumble
Lock
Display the lock
Spin
walk round
Hoops
coach and horses
Fourth corner
Curley
Sue comes into the curley
6 person lock
To see how the tumble show flow nicely into the lock have a look at this video http://youtu.be/YXOaqBtMZPs. Not necessarily with these timings though - it's a slow tumble.
Finally, knickers... We agreed last night to buy a few of the options Lindsey circulated but didn't decide who would do the buying. Can someone please volunteer? The tumblers need to have a pair each so I suggest we buy the first batch in sizes to fit out tumblers.
See you all next week,
Ffion x
