Hi all,
We decided for the crawl to be next Friday, thereby avoiding the football entirely.
However, this would only have five dancers on it, including Laura W who hurt her ankle at the weekend. She's still happy to organise it and we'll carry on as if we're definitely crawling on the Friday but bear in mind we might have to abort plan.
That still seems a stronger plan than attempting to fight with the football!
Thanks,
Becky
Absences: Sue, Hannah TD, Hannorah, Jo, Ellie, Laura, Emily
Apologies if there are more which I have forgotten.
If you want to do clog please turn up by 7.15 and we'll do our best without Ellie.
Please enter the church by the gate near Jamaica Wine Bar (I'll leave that one open) as the other is rather near the scaffolding on the building.
I am having what can only be described as a bad day so forward planning not going so well. If we can do some work on Piccadilly we will! Might also be a good day for alternative jubilee positions.
Will try and do decisions on poll today. Thanks for everyone who has filled in! (quick glance looks like a lot, if not all, of us) https://doodle.com/poll/nuuygzn9n3kt8p98#table
Please come bearing in mind my brain might be in slow mo.
Becky xx
Hello all,
1. St Albans
2. 23rd June Sidmouth Day Practice
3. Doodle poll for next crawl due to the world cup
4. 21st December Winter Solstice (Rough Trade gig)
1.Aiming to get to St Albans for 12.00 (whole host of trains but remember they're probably rubbish atm) meet in th first pub The Horn in kit and ready to dance. After that we're free to roam as we want until the mass show at the Abbey. This starts at 2.45, and we are 6th on. They've said the timing is tight so we will go on do one dance and then straight off again. I think as long as we were there by 3 that should be fine.
I'll email re. collection and any flyers in case we can pick those up ahead of time!
Jubilee:
1.Emma/Rachel
2.Hannorah
3. Becky
4.Ffion
5. Rachel-Anne/Rachel
Westerhope:
1.Rachel/Hannorah
2.Rachel-Anne
3.Becky
4.Emma
5.Ffion
6.Rachel/Hannorah
2.We're scheduled in at the hall on Saturday 23rd June. And I have the following people as coming:
Ellie, Emma, Katherine, Patrick, Sue, Becky, Rachel-Anne
It's not huge numbers, I plan to work on the clog dance, Jubilee and Westerhope, with people learning new numbers. Obviously any extra people that can come would be great!
3. Turns out that the next crawl is scheduled for an England World Cup match night. The Friday after this has no football on so might be the option. Please fill in poll asap re. availability! https://doodle.com/poll/nuuygzn9n3kt8p98
4.We were invited to a summer solstice event which we didn't have the numbers for. I've responded and we are invited for the Winter Solstice (21st December). Please do bear it in mind and fill it in!
Thanks,
Becky x
Hello all,
Absences: Sue, Hannah, Martin, Rachel, Anna, Emma (Jo I have lost track!!) and Emily
We do have: Hannorah, Pat covering us on music, and Eleanor
The aim is to prep for St Albans (albeit without Emma and Rachel)
Please be there by quarter past 7 if you are practicing the clog dance. I'm going to try and be there at 10 past 7 to unlock and shift things about (all help appreciated), and then we may have another go at the end. As Pat is standing in and doesn't always have much time at the start we might do that without music, and then we'll also do some at the end.
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Those going to St Albans next Saturday. I propose we meet at the station ready to dance in the Horn just round the corner which opens at 12. There might be the odd pub that opens earlier in town but seems a bit daft to go earlier if most things are shut.
I know the trains are shocking at the moment so maybe aim for a slightly earlier train than normal, the one I will get in seems to arrive around 11.40.
After that we'll wend our way around the town and are then be part of a mass show at the Abbey at 4. If people are keen we could carry on dancing afterwards or just go home. We will discuss on Monday 😊
I encourage hip flasks and selfies!
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
It's finally Friday! So in advance of all your exciting plans...
Next Saturday will be the St Albans Folk Festival - just finalising
start/finish time info and then I'll suggest some trains and check the name
of the pub near the station (think it's the Golden Horn...). if anyone
needs to rush off early please shout now as they are asking whether we
would like to take part in the mass dance at the end - think this was
around 4pm last time.
We will not be attending the Tuesday evening thing on 21st August in
Croydon as there aren't quite enough people available to make it worth
while.
Other sign-ups - crawls up to the end of the year are now on the sign-up
sheet, so please start filling in. June crawl looking good, so thanks all
for that.
Sidmouth - please start thinking about your travel plans. Rachel-Anne is
looking for travel buddies on the Friday - when are you returning
Rachel-Anne? Think the price you were quoting was a return ticket?
In other news the Morris Party theme has been announced - LONDON
UNDERGROUND!! If you have any awesome ideas please share... ideally they
would like us to incorporate this into a 5 min spot.

Have a good weekend!
Hannah :)
Hi all,
Absences: Sue, Katherine, Martin and I think Jo. Rachel I've lost track due to bank holidays!
We have Nikki playing instead of Martin so do still have music 😊
Please, for those who are able, aim to be there around 7 to set the room up and run through the step dance Ellie taught us. Don't worry if you can't be there, I have no way of knowing for certain if the room will even be free. Depending how people are feeling at 9.30 I will also suggest a run-through then and see how we get on. Please come having looked at the video and tried to remember it - the point of these extra times either side of practice is not to learn it but to practice it!
We'll be thinking about St Albans in a couple of weeks time.
Thanks,
Becky x
Hi All,
Sidmouth is just 2 months away! Wooo!
Seat belts on and strap yourselves in for a long-ish read.
So, some info on getting to Sidmouth... I think at this point it is going
to be much simpler if everyone can sort themselves out please - obviously
if you are completely stuck, let me know and I'm happy to help in any way I
can. I'll add some info on trains below with approx prices and also info
about car share etc. (though nothing beats checking it out yourself to be
absolutely certain you have The Best Deal) I guess there is probably also
mega-bus to Exeter if you fancy that as well! Though might be tiring on the
way home. If you are down to stay until the end, you'll want to head off on
Saturday so you don't miss out on the final night of stuff.
I'm going to add a little section right at the bottom of the sign-up sheet
with the names of all the Ravens going to Sidmouth (plus one's can either
be considered to be sorting themselves or travelling with their Raven).
Please add whether you have sorted your travel out and what method - I will
be chasing to make sure everyone is sorted. The only person who doesn't
have some form of Railcard is Rachel-Anne, I've now forgotten which days
you are doing but if there are people doing the same as you a group-save
might be the way forward. (I'm sure it's written down somewhere!)
*Train Travel:*
Paddington to Exeter by train, 20 min walk to Exeter Bus station and then
the No. 9 or 9A stagecoach bus. Super-off peak return costs about £58 with
a railcard, off-peak return is more like £77 with a railcard (some advance
fares and different times of day will make this cheaper), the bus is around
£6.60 before 6/7pm (forgotten which) after which the Nightrider kicks in
and costs £3.50 (as far as I remember!). Last bus from Exeter to Sidmouth
2335. Buses are pretty frequent during the day - every half an hour, going
down to hourly in the evening. Cheeky tip with this one if travelling
during more peaky-times you can get the off-peak return fare on some
services such as the 1803 if you put Eggesford in instead of Exeter...these
are £77.
Waterloo to Honiton by train and then the No. 9 or 9A bus to Sidmouth from
outside the station. Off peak returns to Exeter/Honiton cost about £50 with
a railcard (again advance fares and time of day will probably make this
cheaper), and I've forgotten how much the bus is. The last bus from Honiton
to Sidmouth goes at 2000 on a Friday. If you're likely to arrive later than
this but would like the (usually) slightly cheaper train ticket but longer
journey, continue to Exeter (probably advise getting off at Exeter Central
as it's a shorted walk) and take the bus below to Sidmouth. With the
Honiton option you can buy a Sidmouth bus add-on at a train station -
unfortunately no longer available online. Fun fact there used to be a rail
station in Sidmouth, so you can technically buy train tickets there! Think
you have to wait 45 mins in Honiton for the bus - potentially just enough
time to eat v. quickly in spoons or whatever!
Basically take your pick of time vs cost and when you can actually travel
and then have a play.
*National Express Bus*
There are national express buses to Exeter if you fancy this option...
Takes about 4hrs 40 apparently, you'll then need to take the bus (mentioned
above) to Sidmouth.
*Car Travel:*
If you are travelling by car and have spaces that you would be willing to
offer in exchange for petrol and drinks, please add this so people can see.
Sidmouth are keen to make this the greenest festival ever so are
encouraging car sharing - using a thing called GoCarShare where you could
offer a lift for petrol money / ask for a lift.
https://gocarshare.com/festival/sidmouth-folk-week
I probably should have put this together before, but there's still plenty
of time to get yourselves sorted, especially if you make a start at looking
this week...
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
We've been invited to go and do a couple of dances at Martin and Will
Allen's gig as Brown Boots with various spots on 5th June in the Folklore
in Shoreditch. We'd get in free in case anyone was worried about that.
Starts at 1930, exact time for dancing TBC. Will has played box for us on
crawls sometimes
I've added it onto the sign-up sheet, please fill in asap as it isn't all
that far away and we don't have a practice on Monday due to the bank
holiday so I can't ask you in person...

Hello all
Thanks very much to everyone who could make it last night. I know getting somewhere turned into a right mission (apologies for the stress involved!)
I thought everyone did really well, especially ellie teaching! Going forward the plan is to do additional practice before/after rapper times to try and suit as many people as possible. Should anyone get really stuck we'll try and organise something additional/a bit of one on one :-)
Remember, this coming week is bank holiday so there will be no practice!
Please practice the clog, we don't have lots of time together to apply to it so need to individually put the work in as well.
Have a lovely weekend :-) xx
Ok, so I have tried to organise positions for Sidmouth including what you're learning/I'd like you to learn. I haven't made decisions on everyone so if it looks like I've ignored you it's because my brain hasn't got there yet!
If I have anything wrong please let me know. If you know you haven't been allocated a second position to learn for something but want one then let me know. Newish people to Piccadilly I'd rather keep you on one for now as think otherwise it'll go wrong quickly :S
See you tonight, I've brought swords in case we're just ace at the clog.
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Thanks for work tonight. Good progress on piccadilly and Westerhope which we'll continue to get people confident with.
WEDNESDAY is on but we're not sure where yet, as it stands you should receive an email from hannah by 8 tomorrow evening confirming where we'll be. If we can't get a pub, Katherine should be able to get a room in ucl.
Laura if you could investigate community centres in central tomorrow that would also be great as ucl is really only if we're desperate!
Meet at standard 7.30, but ideally ready to dance! Focus will be ellie teaching us basic clog dance. Depending where we get we will also do some sword dancing!
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
Firstly thanks all for efforts at both Brockwell and Highams Parks over the
weekend. Have just had an email from Brockwell Park and she loved it
despite the weather being pretty rubbish for us! (and would love to have us
back)
Crawls - the May crawl is off - we just couldn't quite find a day with the
right mix of people to be able to dance out. June is looking very good
though!
Extra Sidmouth Practice - we decided on Monday to have one on 23rd May
(next Wednesday) as there seem to be enough people free for this to happen.
I don't have a confirmed venue as our practice hall haven't got back to me
yet, but please put it in your diaries and I'll let you know on Monday.
In terms of getting to Sidmouth - I will try and sort out some kind of
doodle / thing to help work out who could travel with who and the like and
also look at the options available. However, it may end up just being
easier for everyone to book their own tickets... If so, I will at least
provide some options.
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
Bit later than usual, but never mind...
No practice on Monday due to the Bank Holiday, next practice will be 14th
May.
Our next events are the Brockwell Park May Fete on Saturday 12th May - we
will be dancing between 2 and 4, so will need to be there 1330 latest ready
to go. More info about the day here:
https://www.brockwellgreenhouses.org.uk/event/may-fete-2/
Highams Park on Sunday 13th May, meet by 1130 ready to go, dancing at 12,
1315 and probably 3pm as well. It can take slightly onger than you think it
might to find, so p[lease factor this in. More info here:
https://www.facebook.com/events/224549778104011/
I'll send round more details of these next week.
In the mean time, please take a look at the alternative dates for the May
crawl - currently looking at either 24th May or 7th June (the Thursdays
either side of the original date). At the minute neither is looking
particularly strong, but then we do have a lot of no replies... If you
could fill in asap in case we need to explore other days - would be good to
keep the crawls up so we are on tip top form for Sidmouth.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Enjoy the long weekend!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
Plan for the weekend!
Saturday. Please be at Brockhall greenhouses by 1.30 in kit and ready. We have to organise with the other Morris side what we want to do but we'll have either 2 or 3 batches of dancing.
I'm happy to do shouting as an intro but if anyone else wants to do this it'll be much appreciated!
Jubilee
1. Katherine
2. Hannah
3. Becky
4. Ellie
5. Anna / Rachel-Anne
Westerhope
1. Becky
2. Anna
3. Hannah
4. Katherine
5. Rachel-anne
6. Ellie
Sunday. Higham Park, please be there in kit and ready by 11.30 (don't make the mistake I did and not realise how long it might take to do the walk!)
The day will contain a couple of sessions of jubilee and Westerhope again.
Jubilee
1. Emma
2. Hannah td
3. Hannah n
4. Ellie
5. Anna/rachel-anne
Westerhope
1. Becky
2. Anna
3. Hannah (either one!)
4. Emma
5. Rachel-anne
6. Ellie
Again I'm happy to shout but would appreciate anyone else who fancies it (hannah td you're my most likely candidate!)
Please note there will need to be some petticoat sharing. Im assuming it is just Emma who doesn't have one? Anymore and we need to organise now so please message!
Hope that helps, I will be doing my best to dance, apologies if I am a bit pathetic!
Becky x
Hello all,
I'm sorry this has taken me such a long time. I have been staring at the bit of paper and getting stuck as May looks so hopeless!
For June I have Saturday 23rd:
Me, Ellie, Emma, Katherine, Becky, Anna, Rachel-Anne, Pat and Sue.
For July I have Saturday 14th:
Me, Hannah, Emma, Eleanor, Katherine, Pat, Ffion, Sue, Anna, Rachel, Rachel-Anne
Martin can you confirm if you are available for both?
Laura and Emily - I don't know if you can make one of these? I'm aware you're both trying to fit it in around work so understand if not, just had to go with the majority of people.
MAY - this was a disastor and a half for day practices so I would quite like to try an evening instead. It would be helpful if you could let me know what you would like to get better prepped on for Sidmouth - Anna and Emma the obvious one is Piccadilly (and Rachel-Anne I'd like to build your confidence), Ffion Westerhope. I could do with people learning more positions so that is in my head as well.
--> on Monday please come armed with your diaries so we can try and get a date for the next few weeks. Also anything you would like me to try and prioritise you working on.
Thanks!
Becky
Hello all,
Absences: Martin, Katherine, Rachel, Jo, Hannorah
But we have Nikki on music and (hopefully) Emily returning to us?? *yay*
Tonight we will be looking at the 2 Park dance outs we have in a couple of weeks as there is no Monday practice next week.
Ffion and Laura can you both make a decision on the Vikings (May 13th) and let me know as makes a difference as to what the focus will be.
The Saturday I have to dance, the Sunday I probably have to dance. This isn't ideal but I will do my best. I'll also have to dance Westerhope today if I have any chance of doing it then. So please bear with me!
In reality this only really needs us to look at Westerhope.
Other things to look at: Hannah TD tumbling for double. Emma, Hannah TD and Anna in with other Piccadillyers (as best we can). Emily and Ellie in Jubilee.
Please consider Bromyard if you haven't already.
Broadstairs - I'll mention again at practice but I think for our sake we'd be better to say no thank you to this as we'll have been at Sidmouth all week, but say we would be interested next year if they were? i.e. not commit but have it on the backburner?
Thanks,
Becky
Hi all,
You are warmly invited to Dan's 40th birthday party* on 23rd June!
We are holding a family friendly afternoon ceilidh 2-5pm with Contra Alt
Delete at the Coombes Community Centre in Royston (postcode SG8 5PT). Tea
and birthday cake will be provided in the interval. Everyone is then
welcome to come back to ours (24 Victoria Crescent, SG8 7AX, 15 minute
walk) for dinner/music making/board games/chat. We will provide dinner,
but please BYOB. Limited indoor camping can be provided on a first come
first serve basis.
We would love to see as many as possible of you there! Please let us know
if you are thinking of coming, using this link
<https://goo.gl/forms/f2qYdp5UbcONS9Rg2>, so we have an idea of numbers.
The more the merrier, so do pass the invite on to others you think we might
know.
Love,
Dan and Rachel
*Arthur will have just turned 1, so we might celebrate him too.
Hi All,
As you may have seen on the Whatsapp we have been invited to Broadstairs
Folk Week 10th-17th August) - for a day/weekend/week whatever we fancy.
This does immediately follow Sidmouth, so it might be that we can only go
for a day (unless you all have more holiday than I do!) would suggest
going on the Sunday (12th August) to give time to get back from Sidmouth
unless anyone is uber keen!
It's 1.5 hrs from St Pancras by train - please specify what you would like
to do when you sign up.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Thanks,
Hannah
Thanks to Ffion and Katherine for supervising another fun crawl. Fantastic, compact route brilliantly organised, Ffion, in a new area for us. Fab playing by Martin and Patrick too. And great celebratory drinks provided by an enthusiastic punter.
So how much cash did we collect (excluding Jersey currency, card payments and quite an impressive collection of foreign coins last night)?
You can answer any or all of these (some already have):
a) Monday in City
b) Thursday in St. James's Park
c) Total for the week
Have a great weekend, guys.
S x
Hello all,
Due to my knee I won't be coming tomorrow, not only can I not dance but traipsing around and doing lots of standing will make it hurt so I'd rather not when I know you'll be just fine without me 😊
Ffion is leading the crawl and I've asked Katherine to organise who is dancing in each pub, they will both be shouting to leave etc. please do this promptly! These are all of the numbers I have for you dancing out confidently, if any of this is wrong please let Katherine know.
Jubilee
1. Emma, Katherine, Rachel
2. Hannah N, Ffion
3. Hannah N, Laura
4. Laura, Ffion, Ellie
5. Ffion, Katherine, Rachel
Piccadilly
1. Ffion (Emma we just need to get you calling, which I think you will be doing by next crawl!)
2. Laura
3. Hannah
4. Katherine (just about right??)
5. Rachel
Sadly can't do Westerhope with these people yet. If you'd rather just stick to Jubilee rather than Piccadilly that's fine but figure you might as well give it a go with these numbers unless it goes hideously wrong
Believe there is some petticoat sharing but also lots of you so shouldn't be a problem.
Remember more people out collecting each time the more money we make, please bring tankards if you have them and please collect if you're not dancing!
Sorry to miss it, I'll see you on Monday for a more normal practice 😊
Becky x
Hi All,
Coming up this week - our April crawl will be on Thursday around St James'
Park. Please meet in the Feathers at 7 ready to dance at half past. If you
don't have a petticoat at the mo, don't worry - we can share! (I'll be
bringing swords - note to self...)
As you hopefully saw last week we have been invited to Bromyard Folk
Festival (woo!). Some of you had the opportunity to fill in the sign-up
sheet in the pub yesterday - a pint or two seems a great way to get people
to say yes! If you're worried that you accidentally said no when you meant
yes, please go and check and update as necessary. If the following people
could take a look as well that would be great - seeing as you missed out
yesterday evening: Anna, Emily, Joanna, Hannorah, Rachel-Anne. We'll
confirm details and the like at a later point, for now they would just like
a yes/no from us.
Other things needing your attentions - 22-23 September Basingstoke SetsMad
invite and any crawls that you haven't checked. Looking like we will need
to reschedule the May crawl - so I have put the Thursday's either side of
it on in instead, so please fill these in as well.

Happy Tuesday!
Hannah :)
