Hello all,
So hoping you've remembered your kit as we will be dancing at the ship later (details to follow once I've finally got them!).
Absences I have: Hannorah and think that's it.
Thanks,
Becky
Hi there,
Just had it confirmed that we'll be dancing at the ship tomorrow. Please bring kit so that we can dance out. I haven't been told if they want more than one dance, we'd definitely do jubilee though.
Thanks,
Becky x
Hello,
Advance notice that next week's crawl will be around St James's Park area. Please meet at The Feathers which is opposite St James's Park tube station. It's a maybe for dancing at the moment but it's big and does food. As always, please meet at 7 ready to dance at 7.30.
Ffion x
Hi All,
We have just been invited to Bromyard Folk Festival (6-9th September) off
the back of DERT.
We tried getting an invite for 2017 but never heard back from the person I
messaged, so if you would like to and are able to go, please sign up on the
sign-up sheet. Am sure if we can't quite get a team up this year that we
could ask to go next year or something instead. (I think they usually
consider applications in October)

Thanks,

Hi All,
Thanks for getting the Sidmouth spreadsheet etc. up to date (if you've
missed out filling something in, please let me know asap). I've now added
Sundays to the doodle - those of you that filled it in last night it should
all be on there, though please do check that it is all ok. Everyone else,
if you could take a look and update yourselves please that would be much
appreciated. I've added July 1st onto the poll as well that wasn't there
last night (the joy of trying to guess without actually checking a
calendar!)
https://doodle.com/poll/p92byyac2wprbkf3
Not much this week other than the above. Our next crawl will be next
Thursday - there are a couple of people still sitting in the no-reply box,
if you could move yourselves to Yes/No that would be great so we can decide
what we'll be able to dance out.
Enjoy the summery-ish weather! :)
Thanks,
Hannah

Hello guys,
On a very delayed train. Should be getting in in time to get to practice. But I won't have swords and I might be in a bad mood lol
Laura w is providing keys so no problem there. If I'm not there please can ffion take charge and carry out practice as planned.
Thanks!
Becky
Hello all, bit later than normal (currently on a train from Newcastle). I will see you later unless there are hideous delays!
Absences I have rachel-anne, Hannorah and Rachel. Emily I know you have exams/stuff on at the moment so assume you won't be there?
The plan will be to carry on with piccadilly work, starting from the end figures and then working all the way through. Some details work on jubilee to push forward with ellies confidence and to help us get it stylistically the same with everyone. If possible we'll also look at Westerhope.
See you later!
Becky
Hi All,
Really excited about us going to Sidmouth - it's going to be great! Two
very important things to follow which could do with urgent attention, so
please keep reading all the way to the end :)
At the moment, the events that we are definitely down to do are as follows:
Ceilidh interval spot at the Blackmore Gardens on Tuesday Night
Morris Party Wednesday night
Chance to Meet with Whip the Cat probably Friday lunchtime
If there are any of these that you object to doing, please let Becky know.
Following on from discussions at the EGM, we decided to do some extra
practices to make sure we're all up to speed, which would also include
trying out the clog dance Ellie has in mind. Could you therefore all fill
in the doodle asap so we can get them booked in - we don't necessarily need
to have everyone there and not everyone needs to go to every single one.
For the time being these are Saturday's that we are able to use our
practice hall for. If we need, I'll add Sunday's in at a later date.
https://doodle.com/poll/p92byyac2wprbkf3
Most importantly, if you are going we need to make sure that we have
tickets for you! We will all get a free pass for the week (as we are
dancing the whole week). We may bring one adult spouse/partner each (plus
any children) who will get a pass as well.
Camping is free for team members, and £10 for the week for guests (or £5
for four days). Alternatively if anyone wants to bring a caravan then you
will need to pay £20. If you could all fill in the attached spreadsheet for
yourself (and partner if relevant) by 20th April please (before would be
nice though!) so I can compile everything. Should be an easy job!
In case you're worried the campsite does have hot showers (most of the
time).
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
We're back! I'll email separately about Sidmouth (though there isn't too
much to worry about for the time being on that one). So to keep up momentum
for our exciting Summer of events:
1. New invites
2. Sign-ups needing attention
3. Summary of non-crawl events
1. We have been invited to do a workshop for Basingstoke SetsMad, they've
invited us once or twice before, so we should probably actually go. They
sent us a lovely message congratulating us for DERT and suggested that
there could even be some gin at the thing (there will definitely be
refreshments, sounds as though they will contribute to travel and pay the
Ravens account as well - so what's not to like!). Anyway, it's about 1.5
hours away from Waterloo by train&bus so fairly easy to get to. 22-23
September - we'll do one, so please specify if you have a preference when
signing up. (If you are in a position where you don't want to do Ravens
things two weeks in a row but are free for both this and the thing on 15th,
please give this one preference.)
2. Things needing attention. Crawls, obviously. We have crawls for the next
few months on the list, please sign up as soon as you can - we sometimes
find that some of the summer ones need rescheduling due to people being a
festivals / having holidays etc. so i'ts good to know as soon as we can if
we need to change the date.
Otherwise - the one mentioned above on 22/23 September and 15 September
Folk Dance Southampton. I'll confirm Croydon one way or another shortly.
3. If something says confirmed beside it it is going ahead. Crawls, assume
they are happening, the TBC refers to the location - which will get filled
in as crawl organisers decide where we are going. So, (non-crawl) events
that are definitely confirmed:
12 May Brockwell Park Fete
13 May Highams Park Spring Festival (vikings)
16 June St Albans Festival
8 July Sandwich Folk & Ale
3-10 August Sidmouth!!
2 Sept Faversham Hop Festival
Link to sign-up sheet here:

Have a lovely week and see you all soon!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all!
It feels like forever doesn't it? But here we are, another Monday, another rapper practice.
Absences I have Ffion and Laura. Sue I don't know how your leg is, don't feel pressure to come/dance if it is still bad (fingers crossed it's on the mend though!).
I am going to spend lunchtime looking at the spreadsheet that people filled in to see where we need to fill in gaps and move forward. Short term and most obvious aims are to get Ellie and Emily confident with Jubilee and Emma, Hannah and Anna with Piccadilly. I would also like to figure out second people for Westerhope i.e. so everyone can confidently dance it and any details brought in this year known by everyone 😊
I will not be attempting a chorus dance immediately as I think we should start with the above points!
Yay for sword dancing!
Becky xx
Hi All,
Thanks for coming on Monday and contributing/partying! Please find the
minutes attached - let me know if anything needs changing by 5th April, so
I can send a final version out if necessary. Action points below. (You'll
also have just had a spreadsheet shared with you with notes the positions
that you dance / would like to and level of confidence - feel free to edit
yourself as required.)
Thanks,
Hannah

Hi All,
Just in case you missed it - there will not be a practice tonight as it is
a Bank Holiday. We'll be back next Monday. (Hope nobody was on their way...
meant to send this before but sort of forgot...)
Anyway, seeing as there isn't any practice, you can all have a look at the
sign-up sheet and fill yourselves in for crawl dates and anything else you
haven't looked at for the next few months! Will only take 5 mins :)
In case you missed it both 12th and 13th May events are now confirmed -
we're just tidying up details on timings and the like.
Two remaining events that we need to be able to decide on one way or
another are Croydon night of dance and Folk Dance Southampton.
We've also been invited to Belgium by the Volkdansgroep Nele there after
they saw a video of us dancing at DERT. They've suggested a couple of dates
for us, one in November at a Folk Bal, another in August for their 50th
celebration. We'll discuss this next practice briefly, but have a think and
hopefully I'll have some more info for you on what this is likely to entail.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Hope you're all enjoying the long weekend!
Thanks,

I've shared an item with you:

It's not an attachment – it's stored online. To open this item, just click
the link above.
Hi All,
Here's the dance positions spreadsheet we handed round on Monday. Not quite
everyone has filled in and I'm sure Becky will want to review. hopefully
should all be correct (though there were a couple of boxes where I couldn't
quite see what had been written!).
We can add and expand as things evolve
Thanks,
Hannah
Just a reminder to now all please pay the Tower Ravens account as soon as
possible for your brand spanking new hoodies and t-shirts so Ravens don't
go bankrupt! Please drop Sue a message when you have done it so she knows.
Hoodies: £25.50
T-shirts: £15.50
If you still need to collect them, please let me know when you will next be
at practice or crawl, or nominate person to collect for you, so I can make
sure I bring them with me.
If anyone has any probs paying right now, please contact Sue to discuss.
She is very nice x
.....here is the info that I've given to the most recently-enrolled Ravens, for what it's worth. Really just to give them some idea of what costs they might incur. It is already in need of updating.

Hi all,
Just to let you know the trad scores and comments sheets etc. should become available tomorrow, but I'll keep you posted!
Thanks for a great evening last night - good points made for the progress of the team for the next 6 months and (hopefully) a fun evening had by all 😊
Becky xx
Hello!
Hope everyone survived the busy weekend and is now recovering.
I know not everyone can make it tonight so I wanted to make sure you still heard my thankyous!
First off to absent friends, Hannah TD and Sue, I'm so sorry you couldn't be there with us, you were missed, but it was incredible knowing you were elsewhere watching and supporting us 😊 And we know how much work you both put in before DERT, that hasn't been forgotten!
For everyone that was there thank you to all the dancers, musicians, Tommy, cheering, clapping, smiling, photo takers, video takers, huggers, drinkers and generally making it an awesome dayers. DERT is extremely hard work both in the prep and on the day, I couldn't possibly have done it without you all supporting your boss raven.
Looking forward to seeing most of you tonight and the others very soon. Love, love, love you Ravens!
Becky
Hi All,
Please find the agenda for Monday 26th March attached. If you have any
items that you would like added to the agenda please let me know by 25th
March. I also attach the minutes from the AGM last November, the actions
are summarised at the bottom of this email with current progress (I'll
update and bring to the meeting) to speed through this part of the meeting.
If you could read the minutes in advance (or at least the bullet points)
that would be much appreciated so that we don't have to read the whole
thing out!
Additionally if you are unable to make the EGM / might be a bit late and
have thoughts / comments etc. on any of the items that you would like
expressed please send these to me as well and I will ensure that they are
read out (alternatively Becky if for some reason you would rather not send
them to me).
If you haven't filled in the sign-up sheet to say whether you can make this
date, please do, especially if you think you will be unable to make it.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
On the day, feel free to bring any snacks and drinks that you might want to
help smooth the proceedings along - we'll try and be as efficient as we can
to make the most of Item 12 - Party!
Thanks,
Hannah

Hello all,
To reiterate where we need to be Friday/Saturday! If anyone has a good way to print that'd be appreciated, my version doesn't have Hillsborough or Yellow Arch on it!
I also created this document with times, buses/walking times as well as bus numbers we need to get and how long they'd take in comparison.
My sense of direction is poor, the more people helping with where to go next the better!
BOOM let's go!

Hi All,
DERT is nearly here! A few bits of info before you unleash your excitement.
It's going to be quite long, so grab a bevvy if you need to help you get
all the way to the end... Are you excited yet?!
First up some logistics, then a kit reminder and links to other useful
things.
Weekend forecast for Sheffield looks to be dry, max of 10C min of 3C.
*Friday*
*Travel:*
Firstly, those travelling up in the evening please meet at Kings Cross
under the departure boards (somewhere between Starbucks and Leon) at 1815
ready to go. The train leaves at 1833 and I won't be waiting for anyone
that misses it... We arrive at 2103, so bring whatever you need to keep
yourself entertained for 2.5 hours, e.g. food, ginnies (tinnies but with
Gin), puzzles, inflatable elephants...whatever really
If you said you have a railcard - don't forget to bring it! Laura should be
bringing the hoodies and T-Shirts, so please help her carry these!
Everyone else, we'll see you there!
*Accommodation:*
We are staying in Sheffield Central Travelodge (S1 2BQ) which is about 10
mins walk from the train station.
The rooms are booked under the following peoples names, this doesn't mean
you have to stay in these rooms - I'll leave those of you not staying with
a partner to decide who you're sharing a room with - there should be three
triples between you all. One of the triple rooms we'll need to hand over to
Ffion and Patrick as they didn't originally have a room booked for both of
them (unless any other couple wants that one) - should be able to work this
out when we arrive in the evening though. Any problems, just phone me -
though am sure it will all be fine.
Name booked under Confirmation Number

*Evening venue:*
This is where the indoor camping will be - people will be able to arrive
from 5pm to set up their sleeping stuff etc. I'll leave it to those of you
arriving earlier to coordinate when you want to arrive later on.
King Edward VI school, Glossop Road, S10 2PW. From our travelodge this is
about a 20 min bus journey or a 35 minute walk.
*Saturday*
Our warm-up dance is at 1010 in The Church House. We don't have breakfast
at the Travelodge, so we can go to spoons if we get up in time - it's a 5
min walk away in the direction of Pub No.1. We do need to make sure that we
all eat something before starting dancing whether this is from
Spoons/Greggs/Tesco/Sainsbury is less important so long as you have enough
- can decide times on Friday.
Spotlight is then our first dance at 11. Last dance will be back at The
Church House at 1540. Trad will be at 1845, but we should arrive for the
start at 1745, possibly having bought some food on our way to it to eat
during the showcase. The hope is that we can find a couple of pubs on the
way to the trad to have a warm-up. Showcase starts at 1910 in the Cathedral
- we dance at 2046. Results at 2200.
For more info, see links below.
Bear in mind what Becky said about drinking on Monday - i.e. have one
before dancing, and up to you after that, but don't get too pissed if you
still have dances coming up. Enjoy yourselves - it's going to be a great
day! :)
*Sunday:*
We need to check out by 12
Suggest Spoons for breakfast as we usually do...
There is usually a workshop run by the winning team, which is then followed
by the DERT meeting. I think Becky and I are intending to go to the
meeting, feel free to join if you wish. This will be over in the school.
Home on whichever train you are booked. If I've bought your ticket, I'll be
handing them over Friday evening when I see you.
*Kit etc.*
As Becky said on Monday, make sure your kit is clean. Please don't put
skirts/sashes/petticoats in the washing machine though. If any of these
need cleaning a bit of a sponge is probably fine - sashes this needs to be
a dry as possible sponge. If in doubt ask Sue (also if I've written
anything incorrectly here, please correct me Sue!).
Polish your shoes - I'll have some with me in case, but easiest to do it
beforehand if you can. I think Ffion is buying some new shoelaces, if yours
are looking threadbare, might be time for some new ones!
I think both Westerhope and Piccadilly teams all have new tops and tights -
so please remember to bring them with you.
Have a think about the best way to keep hair tidy - Piccadilly crew don't
forget the skull hair bobbles.

you want to see it:

There was also an email Becky sent with our timetable written out - we
should get a programme though, which will give us all the info we need.
Congratulations for making it all the way down to here! Any questions let
me know and I'll do my best to answer them.
See you in 2 days time!! It's going to be awesome!
Hannah
Hi All,
Coming up this week we have two crawls! Westerhopers - you're up tomorrow,
Hannorah has sent out all the deets. Piccadilly on Friday, Laura will let
us know soon...
EGM/Party - we decided last night that we will do this the day after DERT
(26th March) - I am intending to send the Agenda around for this tomorrow.
Watch this space... I didn't quite manage to write down all the people that
said they'd b able to make it, so if you can fill yourselves in on the
sign-up sheet that would be much appreciated so that we can double check
that we will be at quora (looked like we would be though!)
Sign-ups - thanks for letting me know about Faversham Hop Festival. Looks
like the Sunday should work fine. The next one I am being chased for is
12th May Brockwell Park. The person organising this seems to be incredibly
keen to have us as we weren't able to make it last year. I appreciate this
is the same weekend as another one so if you would rather only do one
please make it clear on the sign-up sheet - and fill in both so I can
figure out what we can do over the weekend. It might be that if we have the
people and enthusiasm we can do both and not necessarily need anyone to do
both days unless they want us to...
I've also added dates for some crawls after DERT...
Sign-up sheet here, as always:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for everyones continued hard work and enthusiasm! Both dances are looking really good, music sounds great, both character acts for each dance looking confident.
Westerhopers have fun on the crawl on Wednesday, we know you'll have plenty of space on the day so probably don't need to worry about small spaces to practice in or anything. I'm sorry I won't be there, my old lady knee needs more of a sit down than a crawl would allow! Dance hard, have fun, remember to allocate someone/ some people to collect at the end of each dance. I won't be there to chivvy from pub-to-pub so please listen to Hannorah/Emma when they want you to move!
Piccadillyers enjoy a couple of days rest ready to head out on Friday, videos of yesterdays dance look really strong!
Next week: as it is the last Monday before DERT I don't intend to do too much dancing. For Piccadilly I'll try and make a summary of any little things for each person to remember, and then we'll dance a couple of times - Emma you might want to do the same, I suppose it depends a bit on which Hannah will be around on the day. From experience the last Monday involves us making really random mistakes that worry us, even though we never normally do them. Any last sashes which need sparkling please bring them and make sure they're done. We'll confirm where we are staying in Sheffield and going to the evening venue etc. any questions please have them ready/email me or Hannah in advance.
POSTCARDS - I mentioned putting a postcard on each judges desk - turns out South Kensington doesn't have tacky London shops with suitable postcards so if anyone happens to be near one please keep an eye out and messgae if you've found something suitable! It needs to have someone that looks like Sue/Paul and ravens on. If no-one finds any I'll have a jaunt to the Tower as they're bound to have some in their gift shop or nearby.
EGM agenda to come out soon now that we've confirmed when we're having it
Thanks all!
Becky
