Hi all
Meeting at the Edinboro Castle, there should be a table under my name. Please endeavour to be ready to dance at 7:30, we need to be at the second pub on time otherwise we won't be able to dance (football).
Pubs are:
Edinboro castle
Earl of Camden
Prince Albert
Draft house
The old eagle
The constitution
The golden lion
See you tomorrow :-)

Hi All,
1. Coming up this week
2. Sign-ups
3. DERT Bio
1. Crawl on Thursday - keep an eye out for details
Day of dance with Silver Flame. As Becky said, please meet at Marylebone at
0950 and we will catch the 1010. Dinner will be at Wagamama's - I think we
worked out that this shouldn't be a problem dietary-wise (apparently they
have a GF menu), but if it is for anyone could you please let me know asap?
Exact details of the day to be confirmed - will update later in the week.
2. Firstly - thanks for your efforts in filling things in on this, I think
we're in a much better position now to see what we are able to go to/not in
the next few months.
New booking: 13th May Highams Park Spring Festival - we have been invited
back again, after we went 2 years ago. The Vikings are back in case that
persuades anyone! Note the dancing is outside, but it is very easy to get
to!
I have now removed Ossett Beer Cart and Bridport Folk Festival. (Still one
or two I need to figure out...)
I appreciate it is still a long way away, but the people organising
Faversham Hop Festival 1st-2nd September are asking whether we know yet
whether or not we will be able to attend. Could you all please have another
look at this one as most of us are listed as maybe's...? (and, yes that
includes me...)
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
3. If any of you have some time / brain power, and fancy having a bask at
our DERT Bio, that would be much appreciated. I'll resend the email so you
have all the details.
See you all soon!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
I just wanted to say a big thank you for everyone's hard work last night. I know we had 9 people which is always awkward and various people who were shattered for different reasons, but I still thought we achieved a lot! I think tommy stuff for DERT is coming together which will hopefully help with planning the music too, and I know outfits were being discussed etc. which is all necessary. We're getting spare kit back in the next couple of weeks so we can address what is going on there as I know not everyone has what they need - as people are aware the sash/petticoat fabric situation isn't really fixable due to no more fabric so we can't magic everyone's kit out of thin air, but we can figure out who will need to share/if there are any gaps we can fill in.
Westerhope looked good to go on Thursday, it might not be perfect every time but I think starting to dance it out is a good idea - Hannorah if you're not well enough Rachel will come along to fill in as 1, if you're up to it she'll have the night off!
Big thanks to Emily for being so patient and understanding about dancing at the moment, I hope the stepping practice was useful in explaining what they all are, very much hoping we can get you involved properly next week
Crawl will be in Camden organised by Katherine, details to follow, I know she's struggled a little on pubs in Camden proper so is moving up to to Kentish Town to try and get more pubs. We might end up busking a bit so all help with this is much appreciated!
Saturday - Hannah should be booking the trains today, leaving Marylebone at 10.10, please be there at 9.50 so that we're not panicking that you won't make it. Train home gets into London around 10.30 - it was that or leave at 6.30 which seemed a bit ridiculous.
See you on Thursday,
Becky
Hello all,
Absences I have for tonight: Ffion, Rachel-Anne, Ellie, and Hannorah (Hope you feel better soon!)
Tonight, due to these absences, might be a bit tricky, but we'll do our best to prep for the crawl and Saturday - Emma I don't know if you have decided if you want to dance Westerhope out on Thursday? I know not having the team together today, and not a whole team on Thursday makes it a bit tricky, but there are various people that can fill in tonight and Thursday.
As far as Piccadilly goes, we have Paul tonight so the aim is to try and progress with a two character act, in particular getting the start sorted out so that Martin can settle on how he wants the music for us coming on in a way that works with an intro etc.
Aim to continue teaching new people Piccadilly, to get it increasingly in peoples heads.
Thanks all,
Becky
Hi All,
Fun fact to brighten your Wednesday - I have just found out that we are
getting a total of 2 hours more daylight now than we were at Christmas!
1. Crawls
2. Coming up
3. Sign-ups (please read!)
4. DERT trains
1. Last Thursday we raised a whopping £205.22, AUS$5, 1 euro cent and a
button! Awesome job everyone! (Also I now need to start guessing something
that isn't a button now we have finally collected one...)
The last crawls before DERT have now been decided - 14th March will be a
Westerhope Crawl and 16th March will be Piccadilly, so as to make sure that
both can be danced out. (obviously if you are dancing in one, you don't
have to come to the other one - unless you want to or are a musician...)
2. Our next event is the crawl with Silver Flame on 17th Feb - I'm just
finalising timings with them and will let you know, but broadly - dancing
in Stratford on Avon, then going to Leamington Spa and dancing some more
and having some dinner. I think most people would like me to book them a
ticket from London and back with the exception of Emma - so I'll sort as
soon as I am able.
3. Apologies for my little sign-up sheet whine on Monday - but it really
is important for making sure we can go dance places. Please check the
sign-up sheet for *all* events coming up (No is a completely acceptable
answer - as are Yes and Maybe, the latter less helpful, but I will accept
it as an indication that you have at least looked at stuff). I basically
just need an indication as to whether these can be done, as with all the
No-replies there is still the possibility that it could be done if they all
happened to be Yes... but equally may quite likely be a No. Sign-up sheet
below. Events include:
Osset Beer Cart 1-3 June
Sandwich Folk and Ale 7-8 July
Bridport Folk Festival 27-29 July
Croydon Night of Dance 21 Aug
Faversham Hop Festival 1-2 Sept
Edinburgh I have moved into 2019 as with Sidmouth this year I think it
is unlikely we'll be able to do it.
4. As some people have bought their own train tickets for DERT and we
don't yet know what we will be subsidising, the fairest way to deal with
this for now is for those of you that I have bought tickets for to pay me
back and then if there is a refund available, Sue will pay these out of the
Ravens account. I'll be in touch shortly regarding how much you each owe me
for trains and with my bank details. Accommodation has been paid for out of
the Ravens account.

Happy Wednesday.
Hannah ☺
Hello all,
Thanks for the continued hard work! I know this mid-way point on the run up to DERT feels like an uphill struggle, especially with crawls, day practices etc. and it really is appreciated that everyone keeps going with the enthusiasm and hard work 😊
Sum-up of last night - we worked on Jubilee and Piccadilly with newer people so everyone is getting through those well as well as running through Westerhope with people that are coming to the Silver Flame DoD. I am continuing to try and keep progress going, in particular with new people learning Piccadilly, as long as I can make timings work!
On top of this we did more detailed work on Piccadilly and Westerhope. I know Rachel-Anne isn't on the crawl next week but I'm hoping someone can fill in at Westerhope 5 for the night (Ffion, Katherine or Rachel) to allow the rest of the set to dance it out.
Next week Paul should be coming along so we can consider double Tommy act sort of stuff. In particular we want to get the start decided so that Martin can figure out how he and Pat will be starting the music. I'm hoping it is also an opportunity to figure out how Paul and Sue can work together in the rest of the dance to get a balance going.
At the same time I think it should be a good opportunity for Westerhope to finalise details and get the team confident enough for dancing on Thursday.
Thanks all xx
Hello all,
We should have a woman called Holstein Wong coming to view practice tonight. She's a morris dancer based in Brisbane but working in London for Feb. She knows we're really busy with DERT prep but please be friendly and answer any questions etc, she just seems interested!
See you later,
Becky
Hi All,
Firstly, we have a crawl on Thursday in Bermondsey - Laura will be sending
out the details soon, so watch out for these...
Westerhope practice will be on Sunday from 1030 in the Abbey Community
Centre (222C Belsize Rd, NW6 4DJ). There are mugs etc, and a microwave if
you need it - otherwise there are plenty of places to buy lunch if you need.
Sign-ups - there are still plenty of festivals that need some responses.
Appreciate there are a couple that overlap with Sidmouth / have been
reported as not being very good, so I will remove these asap, but please
keep filling things in. Although we have currently said yes to St Albans
festival, I think we could now do with one or two more people going if
possible to make sure - so Hannorah, Rachel-Anne and Laura or Ellie - are
any of you likely to be able to go?
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
The DERT meeting is likely to finish around 1 as they need to be out of the
venue by 2pm. I think Becky and myself will both be going to this - anyone
else is welcome to join if they would like to. The venue is around half an
hour walk from the station so realistically those of us attending that
meeting won't be leaving until after 2 by the time the meeting over-runs...
Looking at the trains to come back, the cheapest option is the 1528
(arrives 1814) around £20 without any discounts applied - so about £13-14
with. I appreciate that might be a bit late for some of you, so if you
would like to travel earlier the 1428 (arrives 1724) is around £28.5
without discount and then a little more again for the 1314 (arrives 1600)
Dep 1314 1328 1428 1528
Arr 1600 1632 1724 1814
Cost (no discounts applied) 30 37 28.5 19.9
Discount est 20.00 24.67 19.00 13.27
So, please fill in the attached doodle below by Friday 7pm if you would
like me to buy you a ticket on one of these trains. (Am happy to buy for
anyone that has not yet bought a ticket back to London from Sheffield).
Ffion - I know you aren't travelling back with us, but I can get one for
Patrick if you like.
https://doodle.com/poll/whebeqt3pcphqp92
And note, tickets for the all the evening people to Sheffield are already
booked (Anna, Emma & Tim, Ffion & Patrick, Hannah & Martin, Hannah TD,
Laura & Paul, Rachel-Anne - that should be 11 people...)
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
First off I am pretty physically and mentally exhausted so apologies in advance if I do a bad job tonight!
Pretty simple plan- Meet at the Bree Louise ready to dance at 7.30 we will be doing alternate Jubilee/Piccadilly, unless there are any spaces that are obviously one or the other!
Dert set to do Piccadilly everyone else to do Jubilee with Laura/Hannah N swapping as 3.
If you're not dancing please be ready to collect and also think to have a drink, it's only polite that some of us do after all.
See you later,
Becky
Hello all,
Thank you for quick responses - looking at the signup sheet I have got these numbers:
All week:
Becky, Hannah N, Anne, Ellie, Emma, Kaherine and Sue (not Sunday)
For the Monday - Friday: Laura and Martin (barring any gigs he might have)
Weds-Fri: Ffion
I think from this we would be safest offering to officially be there Mon-Fri as that makes 7-8 dancers plus Sue to tommy and Martin to play.
I want people to be aware quite how much dancing and work will be required. Festivals are long days - dance spots in the town, workshops to be run, multiple crawls, and ceilidh spots. If we're going I want to represent properly - rapper teams are renowned for going above and beyond what a morris team would do and it would be a shame to go and then not properly get involved.
Please let me know if you're availability is any different as listed above, or if you have any concerns, or if you think I'm saying yes when we don't have enough people.
I would say from who we have we will have to spend time post DERT getting everyone up to scratch so that we can happily perform Jubilee, Piccadilly and Westerhope out with these groupings.
Please let me know by the end of Friday!
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All
Here’s the list of pubs for Thursday’s crawl. Catherine, I’ll send you a bit more info on each.
Meet c.7pm at the Bree Louise, not The Rocket, ready to dance at 7.30.
As it’s the last week the Bree is open, it felt right.
I’ve booked a table for 8 from 6.45 under ‘Catherine - Tower Ravens’ so you’ve got somewhere to perch and each a final Bree Louise pie if you fancy.
Pubs for dancing:
1. Bree Louise - Euston St (awaiting final confirmation)
2. Crown & Anchor - Drummond St
3. Exmouth Arms - corner of Starcoss St and Coburg St (awaiting final confirmation)

6. Somerstown Coffee House - Charlton St
7. The Rocket - Euston Road

Hi All,
Firstly, thank you all so much for signing up so quickly for Sidmouth!
DERT - accommodation and evening people's trains are booked to Sheffield
(we're on the 1833 as it was cheap :) ). Just finalising the train back now
I know what time things are likely to finish - watch out for an email on
this please.
1. Coming up this week
2. Sign-ups
3. Hoodies and Trampolining!!
1. Coming up this week - we have a crawl around Euston on Thursday - more
info to follow on this soon.
2. Sign-ups - still a few festivals that need some attention - please take
a look at these so we can get back to the organisers as soon as possible.
Also, we need some more responses for the final crawl before DERT - this
will be either 14th (Wednesday) or 16th (Friday). Please fill this in asap
so we can pick which date.
3. Laura is looking into Hoodies at the minute - if you weren't there
yesterday and would like one please shout so we have an idea of numbers. We
might also look into T-Shirts for things like Sidmouth...
Trampolining - looks to be a few of us interested - we'll look into this
for a Post-DERT trip.
I think there will be more info on this lot from Laura soon...

I wasn't able to email this video for some reason so it's on youtube as unlisted. It's the first dance from Sunday when we were dancing to the recording https://youtu.be/Qa1b0-b1M8Y

Thanks to everyone for a highly enjoyable crawl on Friday and especially to Nikki for playing so beautifully and Ffion for organising a great route with some lovely new pubs.
Who would like to guess how much we collected?

Hello all,
Figure we need to make a bit of a push with Sidmouth sign up, we're a back-up team and need to tell them sooner rather than later if we can make it.
At the moment we don't have a team, but these people have yet to reply:
Anna, Ellie, Emma, Hannah TD, Hannorah, Joanna, Rachel, Rachel-Anne
Please avoid putting yourself as a maybe, if you know you can only do the weekend/the week days etc. please put yourself as yes followed by days you would do.

I'm sure that will be fine. I'm not sure who has spare sashes at the moment. Is it Hannah? X

Hi Ffion
Would you/you plural mind if I turned up not in official raven musician kit? It's very short, and shorter through too many washes! If I wear a black dress I could borrow a sash?

Hi all,
Here's the list of pubs for tomorrow. There are 8 on the list because several said they might be too busy (eventhough one said it would be dead on a Friday!). The first pub is near both Borough and Elephant & Castle. It does food but might be busy early on so you might want to grab food on the way. There is karaoke here at 8pm so I've said we'll dance quickly at 7.30pm and then get out of the way. Please be there on time and ready to dance at 7.30!

Hi All,
Just to let you know accommodation is now booked for us at the Travelodge
Central in Sheffield. It's about 10 mins walk from the train station and is
very close to the spotlight and showcase locations. (and if rumours that
the pubs are in Kelham Island, we'll be pretty close to that too! Rachel -
I haven't booked anything for you and Dan, as I wasn't quite sure what your
final decision was...
Trains - I am going to book these for the evening crew later on. I think
this will be the 1833, so shouldn't be a problem for anyone needing to do a
whole day at work. Sunday I haven't quite finalised a time, but it should
be around 2pm or so to allow someone to go to the meeting thingy (I forget
exactly when it usually finishes).
If you aren't travelling in the evening, if you wouldn't mind sorting
yourself out, that would be great - I can give suggestions of places to
split / go via to make it cheaper and will let you know which one I book
for the Sunday.
If you are on the list below, then I am going to book a ticket for you - if
you shouldn't be on that list, please let me know asap.
Anna (16-25), Emma & Tim (both 16-25), Ffion & Patrick (2 Together), Hannah
N & Martin (2 Together), Hannah TD (16-25), Katherine (16-25), Laura & Paul
(2 Together), Rachel-Anne (no railcard).
Thanks,
Hannah
