Hi All,
There WILL NOT be a crawl on Thursday as there are no musicians available
that we know of - sorry to disappoint and thank you to everyone for signing
up for it. Hopefully there will be just as many of us for the May one...
though looking at the sheet, we may need to be flexible on the date or
something!
Based on the doodle, there are no other days where we have enough of us
before 6th May, so we shall have to make do with some practice beforehand -
either see if there are a couple of pubs in Camden that are open early, or
see if we can use a room in C# for an hour or so beforehand. Would be good
to brush off those cobwebs before dancing out. (This also has the advantage
of having everyone who is at C# there...)
We now have sets for both Jubilee and Westerhope to fill our slots and we
should be able to join in the day in between. Please find our timetable and
the flyer for the day attached. Our spots will be at 1245 and 1505, so we
should be able to make that work for those of you that need to leave early.
Thanks,
Hannah
PS Minutes coming soon, when I've typed them up.
Due to my "nearly fainting at work" incident earlier, I am not going to be
there tonight, my apologies. If that makes the discussion of introducing
non-binary members difficult then I'm happy to postpone that discussion for
when I'm around.
Have fun!
Reesha
Hello all,
Please find attached AGM minutes, plus action points for individuals that I've tried to pull out from it, but I'm hoping people have fairly good ideas of what they need to do anyway!
Generally there needs to be a hand over of roles- this includes Hannah having access to the info emails and me handing over any ongoing correspondents/organising. I need to take on a lot of info regarding the dance from Katherine!
Tour organisers- plan out the next couple of months of crawls- where they'll happen and who is organising them. Maybe doodle poll potential dates for the pre-DERT crawls.
Kit- can we confirm if we have Janet's kit? Sinead if you read this does your new timetable allow you to come back? If not are we able to have your kit back until you're around to use it again? -Hannorah to find out the price of making a skirt at her local tailors - Laura S have you any thoughts on Westerhope kit? Have a lot more time at this point
Festivals- Hannah to ask re. Bromyard next year and to look into Chippenham - we can invite ourselves so think it would be a good starting point for us!
Longsword - Hannah to create a doodlepoll of potential dates for a longsword practice. One Saturday/ Sunday to give it a go and then see from there how we do
Ffion to send out an email asking inactive members if they still want to be on the email list, delete as appropriate.
My aim is to get to grips with the dance, discuss with Katherine/Ffion any ideas for how to develop Piccadilly. As well as working on the team performing a double jubilee as aim to do this at the showcase.
Westerhope- Laura S to consider plan for Westerhope - AGM discussion re. having a second Westerhoper who can continue the practice on the alternate weeks you're not there but following your plans of what you'd like to work on in the long term (please try and sort this at this coming weeks practice).
I am away for the next week and a bit so am leaving Katherine/Ffion in charge of next weeks practice (sorry Katherine, no retirement for you!) Also as long as Laura S is around I'd like the team to work on Westerhope.
Thanks all,
Becky
Hello all,
Just a reminder tomorrow is our egm/party! I have cups and plates and napkins all we need is food and drink!
Officers please consider a brief report as well as remembering this is an opportunity to stand down if wanted.
If you aren't able to go to the egm but have points you would like to make please email me/hannah/ the team so we can include your ideas!
See you tomorrow,
Becky x

Hi everyone,
In an ideal world we would have everyone who will be at the May Day thing
in C# on 6th May at the Crawl, we're still looking at a couple of
no-replies for Thursday and also have no musician.
So, could everyone please fill in the attached poll (especially if going on
6th May) asap so we can get a date and a crawl organised. I think it would
be really helpful to have a crawl before this as we don't have any
practices due to the way bank holidays are falling at the mo.
One option, if people are free, could be to crawl on Monday - it's a bank
holiday, so we wouldn't have a practice anyway.
Laura S - if you are able to make 6th May that would be much appreciated as
then we can definitely do Westerhope and Jubilee rather than having to
dance jubilee twice in a row. Will that be possible?

Hello,
I've just uploaded Hannorah's DERT pics and some of my own into this facebook album: https://www.facebook.com/pg/towerravensrapper/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10…. If anyone has any extra they want to add feel free to do so or to send them through to me if you don't have access. I know some people have put up their own albums too, like Kate. If you've done that and TR hasn't shared it on facebook can you send me the link? I haven't tagged people unless it's a solo pic but feel free to tag yourselves if you want to!
Also, here's a video of some of Piccadilly at Katherine and Simon's wedding
https://youtu.be/FjHuw_4Mu7c It's incomplete and very dark so I won't make it public.
See you all next week,
Ffion x

Hi All,
Please find the agenda for the egm on 24th April attached. Let me know if
there is anything that you would like added, or if you are unable to make
it and have things that you would like said please send those through
beforehand.
Thanks,
Hannah
And don't forget the sign-up sheet:

Hi All,
Still buzzing form DERT (and still more photos appearing for me to look
at!) - we were all AWESOME!!
I know we haven't had a practice this week, but there are still some little
admin things to attend to...
Our EGM/Party! will be 24th April - *looks like there are still a few
people who haven't updated the sign-up sheet *- if this could be you, could
you please go and do so, so that we know we have sufficient people to
actually hold the meeting. I'll be sending an agenda around in the next few
days, so if there is anything that you particularly want on it, let me
know, otherwise we can cover it in AOB... Obviously the most important item
will be the party!
Other sign-ups:
6th May - *Laura S* are you free for this one?
21st April - message via facebook asking us if we "would be able to pop by
and give a display of [our] dancing" at a Best of British party at the The
Ship near Bank - I'm assuming this would be in the evening, but don't have
any further info on it. Could people have a look at their diaries asap
please as it isn't all that far away...
Otherwise there are a bunch more crawls on the sheet for your diaries and
the Women's Day of Dance in October which could also do with a few more
replies...
Thanks,
Hannah

Hello all,
Just a reminder you're all invited to mine and ken's engagement party on Saturday. It's at the Crown in Farringdon (yes we danced there) in the downstairs room from 7.30-8ish. Be lovely to see some of you if you're free :-)

Hi everyone
Hope you are still basking in the glory of such spectacular success at the weekend.
I'm anxious to get the accounts up to date for the EGM, so that we can confidently reimburse you for Kendal travel expenses. I realise that some people have paid for various things on behalf of the Ravens, so please let me know if and how much we owe you for anything. I'll reimburse you immediately.
Lots of love to you all
A very proud Sue x

To my dearest Ravens,
First off I hope you all had as great a weekend as I did. I loved the dancing and I loved the support and I loved the pubs and ahhhh!!
I am so very proud of everyone for all of their hard work in the past months, and lets be honest years, as we progress as a team. I think it's safe to say we have finally been noticed.
To all the people who took videos and photos is it possible to put them on facebook and youtube/make them available for someone to do so? If we could do it asap that'd be great to keep the excitement going!

Lastly, Star and Shadow have invited us to Newcastle for a crawl, obviously it's rather a long way but they've asked if we're interested to let them know and they'll look at dates. So let me know [😊]
Photos and videos GO GO GO!!
Love you all, amazeballs to the max.
We've got a tiger and we'll kick it in the dick! (Or something slightly less animal cruelty-based)

Hi all!
I just wanted to send a quick message from the other side of the world to wish you the best of luck this weekend at DERT. I hope you have a brilliant weekend and you smash it! I have all the fingers and toes crossed for you - you know you are winners even if the judges have a lapse in judgement on the day!
I'm sad I can't be there but I'll be thinking of you from the beach! Ignore Becky's advise about being sensible... Drink all the gin!

For the bake off apparently we need to provide a photo of the team. I was thinking this one is quite apt and funny. Would anyone be able to print it off as I don't have a colour printer? Feel free to pick a different photo of you prefer. X

TOWER RAVENS SIGN UP SHEET 1st April 2017 (no really) - Katherine’s Wedding - Leeds Afternoon dancing at a pub with other teams plus a ceilidh spot in the evening (LS2 9NG). Happy to organise a crawl if people are arriving in the morning. You are welcome to bring +1s, evening food will be provi...
No response is: Hannorah, Kate D, Laura S, Rachel, Reesha, Sue
Just a couple more and that will let me know [😊]
Thanks,
Becky
P.s. remember it's also the post dert partay!
No! It's a cake that almost looks like a sheep. The detail like ears and wool pattern haven't come out but once it's got some frosting and white chocolate chips over its back I think it should look ok. I'll obviously cut the bottom off too so it can stand up.
I've also printed a load of stickers. Please help distribute them to punters, dancers and of course the Alt Judges once we get there. Hannorah, shall we use them as incentives to get people to donate at the shopping centre too?

Hello all!
Firstly well done on the final outing last night, I thought Westerhope was looking great [😊] just remember to look confident! We're planning to have dance Westerhope as part of the Crook challenge, this'll be a bit dependant on what the setup is like but I'll emphasise now that it's a case of one set off one set on and get on with it!
Reminders:
Shiny shoes
Kit clean and presentable, ideally 60 denier tights (DERT set have ours from Primark and found them reasonable although would recommend a pair of black pants to make sure they don't travel South!
Hair - do whatever prep you need to do (straighten etc) please bring bobbles, clips, spray or anything to keep it in place. I will be making up a load of clips with feathers so we'll have them to put in too.
Please bring plasters and safety pins, you can never have too many, also if anyone has business cards it can be worth having them with us just in case.
Hannah please remember your set of swords, if possible give them a clean just so they're all in the best nick.
Drinking! As said yesterday I want people to enjoy DERT and I'm planning on having a couple of drinks to dull the nerves and perk me up a bit. Please do this at a sensible rate, there's no point us messing up because someone drank more than they can handle. Westerhope set apologies in advance that you're not on until 7 but the same rule applies to you. Showcase I see as a different kettle of fish although again hopefully no rolling onto the performance!
Arrivals:
There are a small batch of us arriving in Kendal around 5.30, our plan is to go straight to the hostel and check in.
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Kendal+Hostel/@54.3288378,-2.7477924,15…
As far as I know that is me, Ffion, Laura S and Jo. Prior to this will be Sue, Hannorah and her sister, and Rachel. If you're in the area I will be assuming that you will be coming to the hostel in order to get fairly settled and then head out at six for tea. Kate and Paul I'm not sure, will you be with us? I don't want to leave anyone behind! I will endeavor to send a message out on whatsapp about where we end up which will hopefully gather us all up.
We will then go onto the Friday night social which is at Kendal school (a little further South than our hostel). I know that Reesha, Laura W and Paul, and Hannah are all arriving more like 9.30 -with the idea to go to the evening venue to pick up access to hostel, wristband etc.
Beds:
We seem to have a bajillion beds divided over three rooms as so:
1 room = 11 singles
2 room = 1 double and 3 singles
3 room = 1 double and 5 singles
I at this point have 6 for quiet, 2 for middling, and 8 for stay up late but with some debate re. snoring which I'll be honest I can't quite remember! I would suggest louder people go in the 11 singles, with the other two rooms reserved for quieter sleeps. Maybe snorers can be shoved in the smaller room as I seem to think there were less of them??
Let me know if you need anything in the meantime, looking forward to seeing you all for an awesome weekend [😃]
Becky xx
Hi all,
Just to remind you what we agreed yesterday: Meet at St Michael's at 7.30
as normal, but in Westerhope DERT kit. 1 hour's practising, followed by 3
pubs (which Hannorah is finding - thanks Hannorah!).
Westerhope DERT kit is: shoes, tights, normal skirt (no petticoat), sash,
normal tshirt, black blouse, blue tie, badge. If you don't have a tie or
badge yet, don't worry as Kate and Laura S will be bringing spares.
Non-Westerhope people, please come too! You can be supportive or critical
:)
Rachel x
PS Hannah has also asked me to remind anyone that didn't bring their sash
yesterday to bring it on Monday so it can have extra sparkles added.
Our collection from last week's crawl has risen to £208.50 because I was able to pay the USD and Euro notes into the bank.
Well done everyone!
S x

(And Simon's, I suppose)
Please could everyone meet at *Kings Cross at 1115* so that we can hand out
tickets and find our seats. See meeting point on the map below. I'll get
there early and will be standing somewhere in that area near the ticket
barriers/ticket office/ticket machine /oliver bonas.
The train leaves at 1135 and if anyone is not there in time, then I'm
afraid we will leave without you and you will need to sort yourself out on
the next train. (Rachel, obviously you've sorted yourself, so this doesn't
apply to you)
The train arrives at 1348, so if you would like lunch before then, it's
probably a good idea to take some with you.
When we arrive we'll go and check in to the Ibis (Leeds City Centre) -
10-15 minute walk. We'll then go and meet Thrales by 3pm (hopefully) in Mr
Foley's Ale House (LS1 5RG) - they are meeting from 2.30 so we could go
earlier. The key things is we will start dancing at 3.30 and then go on a
crawl to some (probably not all) of the following (Tom Richardson will be
our guide):
Cutherbert Broderick (LS1 3HJ)
Dry Dock (LS2 3AX)
Fenton
Pack Horse
Eldon
Library
These will take us towards the venue (The Faversham) where there will be
some dancing between 5 and 7pm. We will be dancing Picadilly and probably
Westerhope if everyone is happy with that (Rachel would be 2) during the
day and will then do a Picadilly in one of the interval spots at the
ceilidh with Katherine and Becky - I think Becky said that this will
probably be either at the start or about half an hour into the ceilidh.
Feel free to bring something else to wear - there's no need to wear kit all
evening for the ceilidh and disco, unless you really want to! :)
Sunday morning, we need to be out by 10 so will go and find somewhere to
have brunch then before catching the 1205 back to London. Might well be
'Spoons as there's one right outside the station...
See you at Kings Cross! (or on Monday if you're not coming)
Hope I haven't forgotten to mention anything vitally important!
Hannah

Hi everyone,
Attached is the info from Crook Morris about the day if you want to know
any details. It includes links to various items on the dert 2017 website (
http://www.dertinfo.co.uk/), such as timetables, maps etc. Becky will
collect our wristbands and sort all that lot out. There will be more info
next week, but just a couple of things ready for you to think about this
week - most importantly BREAKFAST!
1. Hostel (and breakfast)
2. DERT Bake-Off
3. Stickers!!
4. Brief outline of the Saturday timetable
*1. Hostel* - we are staying in the Kendal Hostel (
http://www.kendalhostel.com/) which is only about a 15 minute walk tops
from the station. On Sunday we will go to Spoons or something for brunch,
so we decided yesterday to only ask for breakfast on Saturday morning. The
consensus was a "simple" breakfast which includes Cereals, Bread/Toast,
Jams and Preserves, Fruit, Fruit Juice, Tea and Coffee would be fine,
though if anyone would like a Full English I can order these (it will only
cost an extra £3 for anyone that does want it) - so far Hannorah and the 2
Pauls would like the Full English. *If anyone else would like a Full
English, please get back to me by Friday 12 noon* as I need to contact the
hostel to book them. (Simple will be the default, and I will book as many
as are actually staying in the hostel - think we have one or 2 spare beds,
am recounting this week.)
Hannorah - did you say your sister is staying on Friday? (Breakfast
purposes :) )
*2. DERT Bake-Off*
I think we are sort of obliged to enter something given we forgot to take
our cake bribe for the AJ's last year... Seemed like there were some
suggestions of making a Kendal Mint Shot cake thing with actual shots and
maybe arranged to look like a rapper set. Possibility of gluten free. So,
we need someone to bake or at least someone willing to carry the creation
to DERT and put it on the judging table by 9pm on the Friday night (or both
- if evening people would like to bake, we'd need a carrier)... Volunteers?
Also any suggestions on developing this concept beyond my rather shaky
outline..
More info on this and the AJ competition here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/675344492568251/
*3. Stickers*
Ffion is printing stickers today - so if there was an idea that you thought
was especially amazing, please let her know (not sure when they were being
done today, so get comments in asap if you have any...)
*4. Saturday*
The day itself - I won't put too much information on here - save boring you
all until next, but if you would like more info please check out the dert
2017 website/the attached/ask me in case I happen to know the answer...
Warm-up dance 1030
Then we will be dancing at 5 pubs during the day with an additional spot at
the shopping centre where we have 10 mins to raise as much money as we can
for the Great North Air Ambulance (this is a side competition set by Crook
Morris) - so we can use this to run through the trad again as well as
Picadilly.
There is a reasonable gap between the end of the pub dancing and the start
of the evening do, so we'll be able to have a good dinner, relax a bit, run
through Westerhope and collect the second set of swords ready for the
evening.
In the evening, the Westerhope will be at 1945 - they are alternating trad
dances and showcase dances in the first half. Our double jubilee will then
be at 2100 towards the end of the second half.
I'll send some more info next week.
See you soon!
Hannah
