Hello all,
Thanks for a good crawl everyone!
I appreciate there probably wasnt enough dancing for everyone to make it even and I hope to spend the next couple of weeks working on evening out both what people know of piccadilly and westerhope.
Piccadilly people really well done. I think the hard work we put into the day practice has really paid off. Even when the movements aren't perfect the timings are working really solidly and we've definitely improved on all the dodgy areas! I also think we're getting an ace response off the audience and just need to make sure we keep up the amazing energy levels!
Westerhope people a huge well done on your first dance out! I know you only did it twice tonight but it is already looking so much neater an confident than you did before. You really look like you know what you're doing (even if it doesn't feel like it yet!) and I think with some gritty details work its going to look really really good. Well done to Rachel for whipping the dance into shape again :-)
Look forward to hearing what we made, thanks to ffion for organising, Sue for tommying despite the bad voice and Al the collectors throughout.
Also - what did people think of will the box player? I thought he was really good and basically said I'd talk to Kate about if she'd be interested in having him around for dert. Obviously we are not obliged to follow this through, and even if we did he might not be free, if you have any points particularly positive or negative please pass on!
See you on Monday!

Hello,
For the crawl tomorrow (not today as I erroneously briefly put on facebook!) let's meet at the Crown and Cushion on Westminster Bridge Road ready to dance at 7.30pm. It's the Irish one that does Thai food. From memory there aren't that many toilets so better get changed one by one.
Becky, there are a few pubs which are relatively large or have two rooms so might be possibilities for two dances. We might have to do that anyway as several pubs said they would be busy with football/pay day but we'll see what happens.

Hi All,
We have a crawl coming up on Thursday around Waterloo-ish - so look out for
further info from Ffion.
Date for your diaries - the lovely Ru is coming to do a stepping practice
with us on 6th February, to help us all get better at stepping and make
sure we're all consistent. Please do try to make it, I think everyone who
was there for it last year found it really helpful.
DERT - just a quick one. I know I've been bugging you all a lot about
trains lately, so thank you so much for all the responses. Could I just ask
those of you who haven't yet filled out the approx time of day you would be
willing to / like to travel on the Friday night out on that
spreadsheet/email me about it (sorry about the horrendous permissions
thing!) then we can start grouping up. Thrales will also be taking the
train (apparently quite a few during the day), so we can form groups with
them as well, which should give us a bit more flexibility.
See you on Thursday!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
As I'm worried about train ticket prices going up soon, I want to start
buying up tickets. At the moment the only ones it makes sense to buy are
the 2 2-together ones as I need one more person to go into a group save
with Laura and Reesha. If anyone wants to buy their own tickets, feel free,
just let me know so that I don't need to worry about you. I am going to
purchase the first round of tickets tomorrow morning, so if you would like
me to get yours please fill the spreadsheet in. I think a couple of people
have had problems accessing it (I have no idea why it isn't working how I
want it to - sorry about that!) - so if you are having trouble, please just
email me the info and I'll add it in.
Accommodation - Again, this is going fast (I wonder why...). there are
apparently 3 double rooms and 3 twin rooms in the ibis (the cheapest of the
ones which Katherine has a discount for) which will cost £35 per person
(assuming 2 sharing), Katherine thinks she may be able to add one or two
more rooms to this. Though this could have changed by now. From the looks
of it, this might not be quite enough for all of us, so I have been trying
to look into other options as well. Mostly it's a bit on the pricey side,
including the hostels which are between £35 and £50 anyway - so it doesn't
exactly look cheap.
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
Kate isn't at the next practice so we are currently without music. We normally manage a certain amount without music and Ffion filling a little in on whistle (thankyou!)
Hannah is it possible to see if Martin is available? As music isn't needed all the time it would probbaly be fine if he just came for a little while (start or end) so he isn't stood about doing nothing for a lot of it?
Or if anyone else has any bright ideas please let me know!
Becky x
Thanks all. I've emailed Customs and Exiles, but if they aren't available will try the more local teams.

Hello all (this may be one for Katherine actually),
I'm trying to organise some dance spots for my Histories of Morris conference in March. I want to book a GOOD North West side. I know Earlsdon, but are there any others more local to London?
And if you happen to know of any local border morris sides that don't black up, then that would be great too(!!!)
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in anticipation.

Hi all,
I know I've mentioned this to a couple of people already, but just so
everybody is aware, the Westerhope set at DERT will be: Jo (1); Hannorah
(2); Hannah (3); Reesha (4); Laura S (5); Rachel Anne (6).
I've also been asked to send round a list of figures. These are:
Single guard
Fast knot
Fourth corner
Double cramper
Tipping guard
Curly
Jigging guard
Backlock
I'm putting together a more in depth document with all the timings in,
which I hope to send round soon. And hopefully soon we can get video
footage too, for those who find that helpful.
Cheers,
Rachel :)

Hi everyone,
Hope legs etc. are recovering after all that dancing!
1. Katherine's wedding - need responses asap!
2. DERT Trains
2. Day of dance
3. Sign-ups
1. Cheap advance tickets have now become available - so we need to book
asap. We have decided that if we aim to get the 1003 from Kings Cross, we
can arrive in Leeds at 1224, which will give us plenty of time to check in
then meet up for lunch and to crawl during the afternoon making sure we
arrive well in time for the reception at 5pm. The following should be a
link to a spreadsheet for you to fill in whether you have a railcard,
whether you need a ticket and how many need accommodation (will be looking
to sort this too as I think there are group discounts but we need to be
quick!) - so if bringing +1's. Also don't forget to RSVP to Katherine
(mostly reminding myself there...). Please please fill this in by the end
of Saturday 21st so that we can sort out tickets on Monday/maybe even
before then? This is mostly so that we can group those people that don't
have railcards so we can get them cheaper tickets.
(Rachel, which one did you book back? We might as well join you, unless
anyone wants to do different..)
2. DERT trains. While I was at it I've added three columns to indicate what
time of day you would like to travel up on the Friday...
3. Day of Dance - after some deliberation I think we cam to a conclusion
that we would probably ask Medlock or Stone Monkey (as consensus was that
we should aim to get to know a team that we don't know very well) - other
suggestions were Star and Shadow (who would most likely say no, because
feasibility) or Northgate. Sheffield Steel also suggested as they invited
us in the past. But basically probably one of the first 2. However, before
we can invite a team, we need some days to suggest. For the minute we have
2 possible weekends in May - 6th or 20th, but may need to look at June as
well. Could I ask you all to fill in your availability for the May slots
please?
4. I've also added on the two weekends (we'd only do one) which Laura has
invited us to go and dance for her old folks at the community centre we
were practising in on Sunday. This would be 18th Feb or 18th March - to use
as extra DERT practice potentially) or could do another weekend later in
the year. See sign-up sheet for more info. Please could everyone double
check that they have replied to as many events as they can (if you haven't
already!).

anyone has any problems accessing any of the above
Have a great week! (Monday seems ages away!)
Thanks,
Hannah
...it's either that or be an hour early with the Sunday train service.
Also be warned, I'm still a coughing ball of snot, so may not be on top dancin' form.

Happy New Year!
We raised an amazing £275.69 for the Trussell Trust on our Christmas Crawl
- a record breaking amount! So well done everyone - going to have to work
hard to beat that this year!
Keep an eye out for more info on the crawl on Thursday and any changes to
venue for the Sunday practice.
So business in no particular order...
1. Day of Dance
2. Sign-ups
3. Katherine's Wedding!!
4. DERT travel
1. Day of Dance - I've added 2 possible dates for this onto the sign-up
sheet, as there isn't much point inviting a team to a day of dance with us
unless we actually have a team... So, could you all please check your
diaries for 6th and 21st May and fill in the sign-up sheet. We haven't yet
decided on a team to invite (any suggestions welcome) - on this, I have
quite a large flat so would be willing and able to put a team up if they
were coming from further away and so needed/wanted to stay over (unless
they are huge and have a lot of groupies).
2. Sign-ups - we have a few events with some no-replies (including me on
some...), but hopefully now that it's 2017 we all should have a slightly
better idea of our own commitments now that Christmas isn't in the way.
Could I ask everyone to double check that they have put some form of
response to everything on there (even a maybe). In particular could you
have a quick look at 13th May Tredegar, as if we have a team for this Ffion
will need to do some leg work...
3. Katherine's Wedding - For those that are definitely coming it is
probably worth starting to think about things like travel and
accommodation... I know it's still a while away, but train tickets will
soon be available and there will be lots of other people wanting to book
accommodation. I think there is a discount on group bookings... so we could
look at doing a mass booking altogether. I will look into trains shortly,
but if people could think about when they might like to travel etc.
4. DERT travel - Again, tickets will soon be starting to become available
(still waiting on the advance tickets at the mo) - so if you could start
thinking about when you would like to travel up / what time you might like
to arrive. I know some people like to take half a day or a day off and
travel up during the day at their leisure and some people would rather save
their holiday for other things and so will travel after work. If you could
start thinking about which category you are likely to fall into we can
start trying to work out how to group people for the best possible
prices... :)
5. Mari Lwyd -

Thanks everyone and see you Thursday!

Laura W has managed to get us a practice space in her community centre!
Abbey Community Centre, 222c Belsize Road, NW6 4DJ
the nearest station is Swiss Cottage or West Hamstead, on Jubilee and Thames Link, as well as Kilburn High Road Mainline (easy from Euston) and Kilburn Park - Bakerloo.
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Abbey+Community+Centre/@51.5393781,-0.1…
As it is further afield than the church can I suggest meeting at 10.30? Having had a quick scan I can't immediately see a supermarket round the corner so if people can bring lunch with them they'll get the best break, I'm thinking if we have a solid hour in the middle to give people a proper sit down and head space.
I'd quite like to keep going until 5-5.30 although from previous experience there's normally a natural end to these things anyway if people are really flagging and we're all just bumping into each other.
The more people the better and means we can really make good progress with both Piccadilly and Jubilee/tag team in and out for rest periods etc.
I know there might be some people that can't make the whole day, if this is the case can you let me know please!
P.s. If there are any changes in times I'll let you know ASAP.
Sue we owe the centre £98 (I thought on this occasion it was worth paying) apparently we can pay by BACs, cheque or in cash so i leave it to you as to which you think would be best. Let me know if you need any further info.
Hannah can you cancel the hall for Sunday just so they know we're not around. Might be worth just saying we had a last minute opening that meant we could practice all day?
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Just wanted to say a huge thankyou to everyone for turning up last night. It was really amazing that we had over two sets despite the strikes and rain and post Christmas lethargy!
My plan for Thursday is, as much as possible, to have the Dert dance alternate with Jubilee. Due to numbers some dert people will have to dance jubilee but I'm hoping to make it fairly balanced. Laura W. is organising the crawl in Bermondsey, watch this space for more information once she's run round persuading people we're awesome.
Sunday- at the moment we are booked into the church hall from 2- whenever, although the latest I'd want people to stay is 7 and with it being Sunday I can imagine it will be earlier.
The two Laura's are both following up on if we can have other places, which we could have for the whole day (more like 10-6). This way we'd have a lot more time to progress with the dances and we can have a proper lunch break in the middle where we all chill out. Fingers crossed for one of those, again watch this space. If we do end up with the longer day but you can't make it for the whole day please let me know as soon as possible. I chose the date as we definitely had two sets although I know there are now a couple who can't make it/ can't make the whole day. The more people we have the better though!
I will be focusing in on getting the DERT set as precise as possible but the aim is to then have other people who are learning Piccadilly come in and learn the little changes we'll be making. Numbers allowing, at the same time Rachel will be working on the Westerhope set. And again having made any decisions on timings etc. we'll be able to swap other people in.
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Aware strikes are going to make getting to practice difficult for some people. In particular if you are in the dert set please try. There's is a crawl on Thursday and it'd be nice to be more prepared!
Anyone who isn't in dert set don't worry as much, especially with longer journeys.
Kate know this is quite late. If you can make it great if not we'll be alright. I'll chat to people about Thursday xx

Hi everyone,
Apparently although today's tube strike is finishing at 6pm there's going to be a severely reduced service for the rest of the evening and tfl is recommending you complete your journey by 6. I presume we're going to still try and practise tonight with those of us who take trains/busses/bikes home but it would be good to know earlier if we don't think we'll have enough people!
Hope to see you later,
Ffion x
