Hello,
I recently got new shoes and am going to get them resined at some point. My plan is to go to the palce that Ken has found as he actually knows what we're talking about!
Is there anyone else that needs this doing as I could take them all at once? I think there is at least Katherine and Hannorah but their might be others I've missed?
Becky xx
Hello all,
Hope you've all had a lovely Christmas and New Year break!
Back to practice on Monday, is there anyone that can't make it?
I'm hoping to get a couple of videos of the DERT dance (which I imagine will take some reminder time before we do it) and it might be good to do the same with Westerhope as far as is possible. I'd like to have as much prep time as possible for the day practice rtaher than wasting time on the day. If you can't come on Monday please let me know!
Re. the day practice on the 15th. Atm we only have the church hall and that isn't available until 2. I'd much rather have a full day practice somewhere else, has anyone got any bright ideas? I think this practice, in particular, is so crucial that the team should pay if it makes a big difference.
I have also spoken to Ru about coming and trying to help us with stepping again. After some discussion it's actually easiest for her to come on a Monday night rather than on a day practice. I'd rather get this sorted sooner rather than later, please peer at your diarys as I'll be trying to figure out which Mondays coming up work best. If you are in the DERT or Westerhope set this is particularly important but actually Ru can help everyone, I want her to try and focus on getting us more uniform so even if you're a confident stepper having her there to match us all up should be really helpful.
Thanks all,
Becky

Hi all,
Hope you all enjoyed/are still enjoying the festive season. Just a quick
reminder that there is no practice tomorrow, but we'll be back on the 9th.
See you soon!
Hannah :)
Howdy skaters,
Just a quick reminder to bring £13 tonight for your skating ticket. Meet at the rink by the tower at 7.45pm or in the Hung Drawn and Quartered pub if you're there earlier.
I know not everyone goes home between work and rapper but if you do I was thinking the more ravens hoodies we have out on the ice to cooler we would look in any photos we take...
See you later,
Ffion X
Really sorry everyone but can't make it this evening. All sorts of things getting in the way including phone line and Internet not working. Sorry to let you down after promising to mind bags etc. Especially Rachel. Hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year. I'll be out of action early January with family commitments but hope to be back to normal mid Jan. S x

Hello all,
I am being a huge let down and breaking all the laws of Raven leadership by not being there tonight. My cough from Monday has developed into me feeling generally awful, currently at home under a blanket where I intend to stay all day.
This means you can't do Piccadilly which I, if no-one else, am really disappointed about when we've worked hard to push through the changes. Thank you for all that hard work at least that means we can make a strong start in the New Year!
You do have loads of people though so dance Jubilee like you've never danced her before [😊] Have lots of fun, and raise loads of cash for charity. Obviously Hannorah is crawl grand master and I have given Ffion and Katherine the lists of who knows what numbers so look to them to organise you.
If I'm still feeling like this by Monday I'll be highly pissed off, and surprised actually, so can hear all about it then.
Have fun,
Becky
Please see below.
Sorry about e-mailing again about the same thing. You can't accuse Open Morris of non-communication!

Subject: [TR Committee] Personal Accident Insurance for 2017
Dear OM Members
We have just received the attached notice from from Michael Stimpson, who coordinates all the insurance matters for Open Morris, together with the Morris Federation and the Morris Ring.
It is about PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE.
Michael stresses that we should not confuse it with Public Liability cover which is included as part of your annual subscription to Open Morris.
It is available to dancers and musicians aged between 16 and 70 who are members of an Open Morris side.
Please make sure all the members of your side are told about this as soon as possible.
The completed form and payment must be returned to the address on the form on or before 20th January 2017
Kind Regards and Seasons Greetings
The Open Morris Secretary
Hi everyone,
Just to reiterate Becky's thanks to everyone who came along to try out
Longsword on Sunday. Last night we decided to basically put any further
decisions on it off until the EGM after DERT. Were we to decide to do
another practice this would be after DERT anyway.
So, upcoming events:
1. Crawl
2. Christmas Party
3. Sign-ups - Chippenham and Tredegar
1.* Crawl *is this Thursday around Euston and the collections will be going
to the Trussell Trust. Hannorah has some official collecting sign things,
so we're all sorted on that front! See Hannorah's email for full details,
but basically meeting at the *Rocket* at 7 ready to dance at 7.30.
2. *Christmas Party *- we are all booked for ice-skating at 8pm, so meet at
0745 by the ice rink by the tower. If anyone is there earlier, the Hung
Drawn and Quartered will be the meeting pub. Afterwards, we'll aim to go to
a nearby pub if there's space, if not we can pop by a supermarket and
return to the practice hall. There is one spare ticket as 10 are the same
price as 9 - so if anyone else fancies joining in, now's your chance.
Please bring £13 with you on Monday, if skating, to give to Ffion (will be
less if anyone takes the last ticket). Rachel and Sue have kindly offered
to look after things while we skate, but please try not to bring the
kitchen sink with you...
3. Sign-ups - We decided to turn down Silver Flames offer to dance out in
January in Stratford-on-Avon as it's a long way to go for potentially
limited dancing. It's also quite close to a crawl and a dert practice.
*Chippenham* - we are going to apply to dance on the Saturday as a day trip
from London. *Tredegar House -* From what Ffion said on Monday, this would
involve dancing in the grounds of a stately home with potential to crawl in
Newport/Cardiff afterwards. We need an idea of whether we would have enough
dancers before applying.
See most of you tomorrow!
Hannah :)
Greetings Ravens!
Our Christmas crawl will be round Euston, starting at 7.30 at The Rocket on Euston Road.
Please be there no later than 7.15 (dressed & ready to dance).
If you have tankards bring them, although I'm also bringing a couple of Trussell Trust-branded collecting tins.
The likely route will be:
1. The Rocket - Euston Road
2. Somerstown Coffee House - Charlton Street
3. Euston Flyer - Euston Road (possibly 2 dances)
4. O'Neills - Euston Road
5. The Dolphin - Tonbridge Street (2 if we want)
6. The Boot - Cromer Street
8. Marquis of Cornwallis - Marchmont Street
9. The Harrison - Harrison Street
Shout if you have any questions. Otherwise see you there.
Hx
Hello all,
Thanks to everyone who came along to the longsword taster session, i hope everyone has a better idea as to what it involves and if they'd like to persue it.
My aim is to have a quick chat to see if we want to continue with it and if so how we would go about doing it. If you were at the practice but won't be there tonight please email me your views, otherwise we won't know what you think!
So far I think I haven't had anyone saying they can't make practice, please get in touch if you won't be there. Depending how many we have the aim is to get people ready for the crawl including getting the Piccadilly changes firmly in our heads, and hopefully have time to continue working on Westerhope [😊]
Becky xx
Hi everyone
Really sorry to say that I have done something nasty to my back and I think it would be unwise to attempt longsword today. To say that I'm disappointed is an understatement. I was so looking forward to doing some actual dancing.
Sorry also for the short notice. I had hoped to come, but it's painful today. Fine to stand, walk, negotiate stairs and lie down, but running and sitting are a problem. It also means that I'll probably need to miss tomorrow's practice. As you know, it doesn't come naturally to me to be sensible; I must be getting soft in old age.
I hope you have a really enjoyable afternoon and hope to see you all on Thursday, fingers crossed.
S x
Hello all,
Just a reminder for those who haven't done long sword or, like me, just hadn't thought about it - there is no stepping therefore we don't need to wear rapper shoes on Sunday. Obviously flat and comfy that won't fall off [😊]
Ta,
Becky xx
Hi All,
Thanks everyone who came to Mabel Day - was great fun! and thank you to
everyone helping me fill in the sign-up sheet on Monday night - really
helps with being able to get back to people.
1. Longsword
2. Crawl
3. Christmas Party
4. Sign-ups
1. Longsword will be at 2 on Sunday in the practice hall. We've got plenty
of time to learn some traditional figures and have a think about how we
would Raven-ify them. I also guarantee a cake-break... I've checked over
the numbers, and in an ideal world it might be good to have 1 more if one
of the maybe's were to become a yes... then we'd have 8 dancing and 1
music, but we shall be fine if not.
2. Our Christmas Crawl will be on 15th and the collection will be going to
Trussell Trust (https://www.trusselltrust.org/) - thanks for the suggestion
Ffion!
3. Christmas Party - I think we now have responses from everyone - so we'll
be going Ice-Skating!!! (Time to be confirmed) and then having festive
snacks afterwards. Anyone not skating, feel free to come and watch the rest
of us sliding about and then we can all go and be festive. If you want to
double check your response, I've filled everyone in on the doodle poll
based on what was said on Monday - please do this asap as we need to get it
booked and to sort monies out.
4. Thanks everyone for all your responses on Monday - looking much more up
to date now! There are a few things on the sign-up sheet for you all to put
your names to at the start of next year - crawls and practices mainly. I'll
start bugging you all about it in January.. ☺

See a lot of you at the weekend!
Thanks,

Hi everyone
It's that time of year when we need to renew our membership of Open Morris.
It is possible to obtain personal accident cover as well as team insurance. If you would like to add personal cover, please see below and let me know. I'll sort it.
Personal Accident Cover
This is optional and is available to individual members of Morris sides who are based in the UK and aged between 16 and 70. Open Morris members can obtain this cover only through UK sides to which they belong. Please return payment for PA cover with completed forms direct to Michael Stimpson; his address, email and phone number are all on the form, should you have any queries. Your side contact will receive an emailed application form or you can go to: http://www.open-morris.org/insurance.html and follow the link from that page for the 2-page form once the current form is available.

Hi Ravens
Totally random favour to ask...
If any of you are at a lose-end next Thursday from 5.30 we're (Age UK) in desperate need of carol singers at Sloane Square tube station, ahead of our carol concert 'Love Christmas' at Cadogan Hall. It would be 1.25 hours of singing & collecting.
Volunteers naturally get a free ticket to the concert which is gonna be awesome. Check it out: http://www.ageuk.org.uk/get-involved/events-and-challenges/love-christmas/

Hi everyone,
Business for those that missed it on Monday... (also note updated bus times
for those that were)
1. Mabel Day
2. Christmas Party
3. Charity for the xmas crawl
1. Mabel Day - We will be getting the *0930* bus from v close to Victoria
(not the bus station), so meet at the bus stop by 0920. You can buy tickets
from the website, or on the bus, but you'd need correct change I think.
There are other bus stops (Marble Arch, Shepherds Bush) which may be more
convenient for some people, which can be checked on the website - if you
are getting on at another stop can you let me know so I don't have a
massive panic on Sunday morning please? For those not taking the bus,
please aim to be at the Royal Blenheim by 1130 ready to go. And don't
forget to shine your shoes! :) Info about the day here:
http://www.mabelgubbins.co.uk/mabel17.html Oxford tube info here:
https://www.oxfordtube.com/ Looking forward to seeing you all there!
2. Christmas Party - Ffion had a bright idea that maybe we should go
ice-skating near the tower - think it costs ~£13, but there would be a
discount if more than 10 of us wanted to go. So, it was suggested that
perhaps for our final practice of the year we should have a party - ice
skating followed by festive eating either in a pub somewhere or we can make
use of the practice hall. So, please fill in the doodle poll below to say
whether you would like to go ice skating or not / party etc./ are not
around that week.
http://doodle.com/poll/winknz849ksemfdh
3. Speaking of Christmas, we are planning on donating the money from the
Christmas Crawl on 15th December to charity - so please come with
nominations for this next week / email suggestions.
See you soon!
Hannah
Hello all,
I have decided the crawl dates in the run-up to DERT based on any of you who responded to the doodle poll:
I have added them to the sign up sheet and filled in all the yes' that people gave me, please if you didn't fill the poll in still fill this in - even if you're not competing in DERT it's good to know who is around!
Dates I've gone for are: Thurs 12th Jan, Thurs 9th Feb, Thurs 23rd Feb, Thurs 9th March and Thurs 23rd March. It would have been nice to have a Friday but it didn't really seem worth forcing it when the attendance wasn't great.
The missing crawl is the end of Jan and will be either 26th/27th. Based on the doodle poll it's more likely to be the Thursday but worth checking any extras people. We don't have Kate for either so will try and employ Carol (hopefully!)
If you haven't already participated please fill in the signup sheet - please bear in mind that Westerhope and Spotlight people need to dance out as well as the main DERT set so please sign up!!

P.s. if you're coming to mabel day and suddenly can't make tonight please let me know asap.
Well done everyone on a wonderful evening in Aldgate, especially Katherine for her brilliant organisation, Becky for shepherding us around and sorting the dancing so efficiently, Rachel-Anne on her starring debut and Carol and Martin for such brilliant musicianship. But mostly it was a superb team effort. Thanks too to our loyal supporters (as well as our new fan club). Fab evening all round.
Get your guesses in here.
Don't have Carol's , Ken's or Simon's email, so please would someone forward this to them?
Cheers

Hi everyone,
Just trying to finish sorting out our registration for DERT, and we need to
update the bio. Below is the current one (from last year) - anyone any
inspiration for updating it? Might be amusing to mention our award-winning
fish dance, but I think others are probably more creative than me at this
sort of thing!
*"Deep in the heart of our nation's capital city, ten maidens fair have
been astounding the pubs of London with their feats of acrobatic prowess
(and drinking) since their escape from the Tower in 2012. Led by a wayward
Beefeater who decided to take up the bugle despite having received no
formal training, the Ravens will be flying North to England's “second city”
to see what all the fuss is about."*
Any suggestions welcome! Otherwise it'll probably end up pretty similar but
changing the ref to Manchester to something a bit more Kendal-y.
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
Quick update on business in case you missed it.
1. Crawl
2. Mabel Day
3. Kit
4. Sign-ups
1. Crawl on Thursday - see Katherine's email for more info. Meeting in the
Duke of Somerset at 7pm (Aldgate East nearest tube), ready to dance by
7.30. For those of you sharing kit, pleas remember who you are sharing what
with and please try to keep change overs as smooth as possible. Kit info
below...
2. Mabel Day - 4th December. Meeting in the Royal Blenheim from 11 onwards.
I'm not sure whether the dancing is starting at 12 like last year or if it
will be earlier. The easiest way is the Oxford tube which takes about 1hr
40 from London Victoria - stops at various other places in London and costs
£18 return for an adult ticket with discounts available for students etc.
(probably need to be the 0925 from Victoria - TBC). Trains are £25 return
without a railcard, there are some cheap singles available at the moment as
well which would make it about £18.50 without a railcard, though the return
would probably fit better with the train times. The train station is about
10-15 minute walk from the pub and you would probably have to get the 0935
from Paddington. I will confirm times when I've double checked what time we
start dancing - all estimated departure times based on on an assumption
that we can arrive at 11.30.
https://www.oxfordtube.com/
3. For those that don't yet have kit:
- T-Shirt: H&M £3.99 Black short-sleeved/capped sleeves, figure-fit top
in soft, stretch jersey - basics range with round neckline (not the high
neck, the more scoopy one (technical term that);
- Tights: black 40 or 60 dernier (though you might want thicker ones as
it's winter..)
- Shoes: There are some 3's, 4's, 8's and huge sizes here in the
following location. I suggest those that have little feet snap them up if
you need them. I'll try and find out if there will be any more of the other
sizes, otherwise we'll find another supplier and let you know.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Mens-Black-Leather-Oxford-Cadet-Parade-Capped…
4. Thanks for a sterling effort at signing up for stuff to the end of the
year - next things to check your diaries for are: Silver Flames dance out -
would be good to give them an answer on this soon, so please check your
diaries. Also, have a think about Chippenham Folk Festival and Carshalton
Day of Dance (I know they are along time away, but we'll have to give an
answer one way or the other soon.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
See you all Thursday!
Hannah :)
Hi all
The plan for Thursday is to meet at the Duke of Somerset opposite aldgate station (5 mins from aldgate east station). It's big, does food and we need to dance at 7:30 as they're showing football later. Then into;
Hoop & Grapes
White Swan
The Oliver Conquest - gin bar :-)
The Castle
Bar Locks
Archers
The Culpeper
I'm slightly concerned how many said it will be extremely busy but I've got a handful of probably yes pubs we could try.
For those who've not been before we meet in the pub at 7, ready in kit to dance at 7:30.
See you soon
Katherine
P.s I will not forget my tankard!
