Hi everyone I need to apply for a debit card for our bank account, not only to make occasional payments, but also to enable us (from February) to pay cash into the account via the Post Office. This will be particularly helpful, since my nearest 3 branches of HSBC have closed and it's currently a bit of a palaver to pay cash in at a branch. This will require a change to our constitution as follows: Current wording under Section 7: Any cheques drawn against club funds should hold the signature of two of the signatories in the bank mandate for Tower Ravens Rapper. Proposed rewording: Any cheques drawn against club funds should hold the signature of any of the signatories in the bank mandate for Tower Ravens Rapper. Updates- please read!

Hello all, 1. Trains2. Dance spot 18th March3. Strike around practice and crawl4. Sue re. hostel prices5. Silver Flame confirmed! 1. Hello all, please fill in when you would like to travel to DERT (as per previous emails) writing in the comments if you have any sort of discount card. Nikki has been way more on the ball than me and mentioned that there are strikes planned for the week around the 15th feb. This will effect a crawl and a practice. If everyone could keep an eye on any updates that'd be great and then we can do emergency rejigging nearer the time/ end of January :) 4. For anyone not at practice last night- Sue has booked accommodation for DERT- she will be sending an email at some point confirming exactly how much everyone owes and when it needs paying by. We decided to subsidise the accommodation by 50% so the price will be about £30. If this is a problem please just get in touch with Sue, as always money should not get in the way of you joining in! 5. Silver Flame have confirmed that they will be coming to London to join us on the 16th April. At the moment we're putting organisation on the back burner, but I've asked where they are travelling to and from as well as any dietary requirements so we'll go from there. Nearer the time, all help finding pubs/places to eat etc. will be most appreciated! Think that is all... See you on Thursday at 7 at The Jack Horner, near Tottenham court road. Please be present and ready to start dancing for 7.30 (unless you've told Katherine otherwise!) According to my quick somewhat naff interrogation of people we should easily have a team for 7.30. We decided to have next weeks crawl somewhere other than Victoria as Thrales are crawling there this week and we think it will make getting pubs harder. Laura W. is that ok?Are you able to organise a different area fairly easily? Kate, Laura W. and Jo can you confirm if you can do the dance spot on 27th Feb? With regards to kit, there has always been more marks awarded to those teams who have adapted their kit to suit the dance they are doing, however in practice, most teams don't go all out. If you make an attempt to refer to the kit suggestions which are in the notations, this will be looked on more favourably but is not the be all and end all. As you can see from the criteria, half of the marks are available for accuracy to your chosen notation, and half are available on the quality of the dance. Therefore in reality, the kit is a very small part of it. Westerhope plan

Hello all, Just letting everyone know what the plans are for the trad dance. If you don't want to know about my thought process, then ignore the first part and go to part B. PART A The possible figures listed for Westerhope are: Single guard Jigging guard Tipping guard Fourth corner Chain Back over knot (back lock) Cramper Double cramper Curly Right and left (curlys with figure of 8) Fast knot (curlys and fig. 8 and wrong side curly) Gymnac (fourth corner with a double tumble) Crown (everyone tumbles one after the other) Traditionally, the Westerhope team used to dance 8 figures with a single guard and lock in-between each figure. Or, for stage performances, they would drop the single-guard chorus (because it would take so long) and just do more figures. Realistically, we won't be doing figures with a double tumble or 5 person tumble. There's lots of curly type figures, and two crampers. If we aim to do all figures which are not curlys or crampers, and then have one curly figure and one cramper., this would equal only 8 figures. So we should probably add another to make it more than the minimum 8. The dance requires that a 6th person joins for the last 3 figures. The only figures that work with 6 people are: Single guard A curly figure Jigging guard Back lock Perhaps a cramper figure? And I wouldn't want to try a 4 person chain... This explains Sinead's choice for the last 3 figures, and perhaps best to keep it the same. PART B So, my thoughts for the Westerhope dance structure is: >From a line 1. Single-guard 2. Curly (or Right & Left) 3. Fourth corner 4. Double cramper 5. Chain 6. Tipping guard 6th person join on: 7. Fast knot (or Right & Left) 8. Jigging guard 9. Back lock Display and finish in a line I suppose it doesn't matter too much what order the figures are, but I was trying to spread out the curlys and crampers because they look similar. St Alban's Festival, emergency dance spot and Trains

Hello all, Sorry for another email, I mentioned St Alban's inviting us to dance a their festival Sat 18th June and we said it was worth asking them if they can actually accommodate us as a rapper team rather than as a standard morris side. Thursday's crawl - Fitzrovia

Change in crawl date! Plus other stuff

Hello all, 1. CHANGE IN CRAWL DATE2. Ceilidh spot invite3. Day practices4. Trains for DERT 1. Please please check the signup sheet. Nikki is unavailable for the crawl on the 12th February so we are trying to reschedule to the 18th February. I have altered peoples availability basically just by copying the 12th but I'm aware that might not apply. If you could check and change it ASAP it would be much appreciated :) 2. We have been asked (again) to do a ceilidh spot for the same guy who keeps asking us, this time March 18th in Streatham. If you could fill in availability sooner rather than later that'd be great. Ffion did point out it might make a good relaxing end to DERT run as we should have free entry into the ceilidh so other than the spot it's a social evening! 3. Day practices we are checking with the church are: January 31st, Feb 14th, Feb 21st. These are all Sunday's and we would be looking at practicing from 2-7 ISH. I'll let you know as soon as I have more information. 4. Trains for DERT: Hannah very helpfully looked up the cheapest train times for the evening of Friday to get to Manchester (please see previous email) For those of us thinking of travelling earlier I've had a speedy look and (without and railcard/group discounts) it looks to be £26 out 11.40 and before, £36 after this point.Travelling back on the Sunday also looks ot be £26 It takes a couple of hours to get to Manchester so the best train might be 11.40, gets us in around 3 so plenty of time to settle in but not too much hanging around and is £10 cheaper. I believe we are subsidising the travel (although can't remember by how much...) if you would like to travel as part of the group either earlier or later please have decided by next Monday, or if you're not at practice to email me as we should get on with booking these. Please also consider if you have any sort of travel card as we should hopefully be able to find a balance between that and then group travel (minimum of 3). Thanks all! Becky xx

Happy New Year everyone! Not a very positive start, I'm afraid. As you know we are affiliated to Open Morris, mainly for insurance purposes. Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of problems in their ranks, which has led to the breakdown of their latest AGM and the resignations of both Chairperson and Treasurer. I'm forwarding the latest info I have from Brian and Nikki but no one from the Ravens attends their meetings, so we're rather in the dark about the detailed machinations. I had already sent our subscription for 2016 before all this blew up, but they have given us the option to reconsider our membership in the light of the forthcoming meetings (see below). We may, for example, wish to discuss transferring to the Morris Federation, which is longer established and seems more stable and freer from internal politics. I don't even know if Open Morris will survive, although from what little I know of them, both Brian and Nikki seem like decent people and committed to resolving the problems. I don't know the two who have resigned and I haven't a clue about their reasons. Anyway, please read the stuff below, even if it means as little to you as it does to me. It would be very helpful indeed if anyone fancies attending the EGM/AGM on 30th January in Nuneaton. Also feel free to stand for one of the committee posts if you wish. We have until the end of February to consider our future with Open Morris, but by that time we may well be up to our eyes in DERT preparation. In the meantime I trust that we are covered by them for insurance, although the insurance certificate will not arrive until later this month. S x Dear Open Morris Member,I am sure many of you are aware of the conflicts and difficulties within the management of Open Morris at present. This has come about because of longstanding personal differences and differing attitudes to the ethos of the organisation between some committee members and extending to others connected with the committee.As a result of this conflict, we sadly had to accept the resignation of the Chair, Phil Watson and more recently the Treasurer, Ashley Jones, neither of whom enjoyed the politics currently being promoted. There is an EGM planned for January 30th in Nuneaton, details of which you will have received this week. This meeting will include voting on proposed constitutional changes and elections for a new committee. Manifestos for those standing should be available nearer the time. It is important to stress that ALL posts are available to contest if any of your side members would like to be nominated, so please make them aware of the opportunity. Any 2015 Open Morris member side is entitled to send a representative to vote, even if you are unsure of your intention to renew for 2016. It is important that as many opinions as possible are heard. Shoes

Hi everyone, I've been having a look to see where we could get some shoes, as I think Katherine said that the usual place isn't doing them anymore and both Ffion and I could do with some new ones. So, the current variety and some options, which look similar to the current ones, I have pulled up with a quick search are below - I don't have any of the proper ones so these are my best on-screen guesses. Hello all, I think there are a handful of us left slogging it out in London so are meeting up for a chat, mince pies and hopefully something cheeky and alcoholic! Obviously if you don't fancy this or are trawling the shops in search of last minute gifts there is no pressure! ...also, Ken is complaining about being sad and lonely, could he come along? And Ffion, would Patrick be sad and lonely and would he like to come along? For those not at practice yesterday I have started investigating accommodation for Manchester- I will give updates once I have more info, atm the hostels seem the cheapest option by far- Hannorah is asking her sister in case she has any ideas being more Manchester savvy than me!The plan is to subsidise this so that everyone only has to pay half of what is owed, looking at around £30 per personISH. I'm enquiring re. prices so it is all rather subject to change. As always if that is too much just get in touch with Sue and we can see what we can offer. Travel to and from is my next on agenda, if you are driving/driving and able to take others please let me know, Hannah is seeing what help Martin can offer for trains in case he can work any magic searching skills and find us a cheaper way of getting there. In the new year please come to practice with an idea of if you are leaving after work or earlier in the day, if we book group travel we need a minimum of three people travelling together at all times. Lots of us on the crawl so see you then! If not have a wonderful Christmas and New Year - I will endeavor not to bother you again until the 4th January. Becky xx
