Hi guys,
Ok, so we can't actually head to the pub, but let's give zoom a go. I've scheduled two meetings, one after the other. I don't think you need all the info. but I've left it in case. It should just be that you follow link 1 for 7.30 and then link 2 for 8.10.
This isn't compulsory but seems a nice way of people keeping in touch if they want to. If people want to try playing or singing feel free, we can join in! Primarily this is just a chat, if we can make stepping practice work we will 🙂
Zoom is totally free to download and should work on any phones or computers. Any problems let the whatsapp chat know and sure someone can help.
Look forward to actually speaking to you. The first rounds on me! Ahahaha...no, pour your own drink lol

Hi All,
As you've probably gathered crawls and practices etc. are cancelled until
further notice.
We're looking into ways in which we can keep in touch to help maintain some
sanity - so look out for this if you would like to virtually hang out with
other Ravens! Possibly virtual practice / drinking when we've tested some
technology! (If nothing else maybe someone can post "Open the gate it's
fucking freezing out here" every Monday at an appropriate time?)
We've cancelled our hotel and train ticket bookings to DERT, just awaiting
refunds and then will ensure that anyone that paid for partners is
reimbursed as well as all the money returning to the Ravens account - will
be in touch once the monies land.
We were due to have our EGM on 6th April after DERT, however given the
current circumstances and the fact that this is usually used for a DERT
debrief and summer planning we are going to postpone until we know when we
can practice.
In terms of other events that have cancelled that we were going to attend:
DART Ceilidh - this will no longer be going ahead, C# House is closed until
the end of May and it just isn't sensible right now
St Albans Folk Festival - they are thinking of rescheduling in the Autumn
if that works out.
Surrey Docks Spring Fair - assume this won't be happening given the date
and everything.
Otherwise, I guess given we were in for a quieter Spring / early Summer
there won't be too many other cancellations coming in for the time being,
but will keep you posted if there are any updates.
Do keep in touch - we've got the Ravens WhatsApp to help keep us all
entertained and see you all on the other side once this passes.
Hannah

Subject: [TR Committee] DERT 2020 - Sad News
To: info(a)dert2020.co.uk <info(a)dert2020.co.uk>
Hello All,
Following today's government briefing, it is with the greatest sadness that
I have to confirm what many of you may now be expecting.
DERT 2020 is cancelled.
Today's government announcement was a surprise, we had thought that we
would probably be able to run DERT, even in a scaled down manner, and that
our contingency plan of preparing to move the competition online was just a
sensible 'worst case scenario' to have, but now we cannot even do that.
We are setting up a virtual DERT Showcase (just for fun) which will run
over Saturday 4th April to keep everyone entertained while we aren't
allowed to get together. It is going to be much smaller than we thought as
we now don't have time to ask you all to record 6 competition standard
videos 'just in case'. Instead, what we would like is a video of your
choice, which we will schedule over the course of the day (not judged). We
would like everyone, including the Traditional, the Veterans, and DERTy
teams (if you have permission to post online videos) to have a video.
We are so disappointed for all of you, after all the work that goes into
preparing all your dances for DERT, the crawls, the practices, the mad
showcase ideas.
I can hardly believe that I am sending out this email, and I am so sorry
that this year's DERT isn't going ahead.
We have 576 cups in the spare room, and a box of t-shirts en route, badges
in production, gin being labelled, beer being brewed... We will be in touch
with people who have pre-ordered merchandise and post it out when we can.
I'm so sorry,
Lynne

Hi all,
Hopefully you have all received the whatsapp and know practice is not happening.
The government has said we have to avoid unnecessary social contact and travel. As much as we all love rapper, I think we know it's not strictly necessary!
I'll keep in touch. We'll meet up when we can 🙂
Keep safe everyone and keep sane, whatsapp is always there for sharing thoughts and raven facts etc!
Love,
Becky
Hi All,
*Coming up this week:*
- Joint Crawl on Friday, look out for details from Hannorah. Please be
there ready to dance at 1915. We'll be wanting to be quite efficient like
last time to get through a good number of dances.
- Saturday Dilly day practice. Hall is booked 10-4, but if we wish to have
a slightly different time, am sure we can
Hopefully you've all seen Becky's email about Covid-19, if you have any
concerns, please let one of us know
*Sign-ups:*
*New:*
Very excitingly, Joanna & Larry are getting married on 15th June, and would
like us to join them in the evening for a dance and drinks. It will be in
Stoke Newington on 15th June (Monday)
*Cancelled*:
Firstly, please note the Thriplow Daffodil Festival is cancelled due to
Covid-19, but they would like us to try and go next year if we are free.
*Other*:
23rd April - Ceilidh with TR to fundraise for DART - please do fill in the
sign up sheet, the plan is that we do the interval sport... If you're able
to do the odd share of the post as well to help push tickets that would be
grand!
2nd May - Spring Farm Fair. The dance spots they had before were on the
hard ground near the craft stalls and in the field, we'd only be able to do
the first of these I suspect. From the sounds of it, it would be flexible
in terms of how much dancing, most likely between 12-3 sometime.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
*Kit*
If you have any kit issues please let me know - no matter how small. There
might be some small fixes to some things that we can arrange - including
sparkles for all! For things needing more work than we have time for, we
can arrange some swaps for competition time.
So far I have: Emma S (basically all of it), BS / KR sashes. Hannah TD
another bit of velcro on the sash. I think there are a couple of people
missing petticoats as well - though doubt we'll be making those before
DERT!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
Plan for next week: Fliss, Emma, Rachel and Hannah please read.
I'm not at practice next week, neither is Rachel-Anne, Katherine or Ellie.
I am going to leave you in the capable hands of Fliss, Emma, Rachel and Hannah who are all used to teaching and I think will manage to get you all busy! If Jo is around she is a good teacher too!
I'd suggest working on the alternative DERT set as well as obviously the main Westerhope DERT set. Outside of this please take the opportunity to work on figures you're not as confident on. For Emma R some work on Westerhope would be good and Emma H could probably do with 1 on Westerhope?
Alternative dilly work will need Fliss and Rachel so Emma you probably need to teach the other people (Hannah N I imagine you'll need to 3 for other dancing?). Emma if you can remain flexible and respond to both sets, Hannah can do some in-set teaching.
For alternative dilly:
I'd recommend filming this at the start so that those people can then look at it and figure out what they need to work on. There is the video from before which I gave these comments on:
Windmills: 2 turning a bit too quickly, their body turns round faster than 4
Single tumble: 4 needs to step for 4 with 2 and 3
Square display: Everyone went a bit rogue, Emma might be able to help with masking tape on the floor so you can judge yourselves.
Line up and down around needles: Make sure this happens at the same time, led by 3. And make sure you don't start too high on the line down.
Arches: 4 popeye arm
Tits: looking a lot better but still a bit frantic. Post tits 4 to try and move at the right time back to space, it is weird footwork!
Popcorn: Think high straight jumps and big sweeping arms
V displays: for both make sure it is all very neat. 2 and 4 need to position themselves around 3 at the end, with 1 and 5 need to be at a suitable distance. For the first v 1 and 5 want to make sure they don't go too far so everyone can fill in neatly between and behind.
Thanks,
Becky
Hi all,
Absences: Hannah, Martin, Clare, Rachel (we do have Will instead)
Friday stepping: This will start at 7/7.30. We'll vote tonight.
7-7.30 clog
7.30 - 8.30
I would like to start with 1x alternate Dilly set dance through. I've made some notes from the video on improvements which I'll go through first but don't worry too much.
Then: Dilly DERT team with HTD instead of Hannah. Ideally we can do some dancing all together, working on issues for team as a whole. From the crawl lots of things are getting better but we need to work on some basics like V displays.
Meanwhile. Fliss has kindly agreed to lead everyone else in Jubilee/Westerhope work. Please put a particular emphasis on ravens style as this is a work in progress. Emma did some good work on this last week so might be worth a quick chat with her.
Numbers I have:
Jubilee:
1 Jo?
2 Tori, Rachel-Anne, Laura? Fliss, Emma R, Hannorah, Jo
3 Laura
4 Tori, Laura? Fliss, Emma S, Miriam, Hannorah
5 Rachel-Anne, Fliss? Flo, Miriam
Westerhope:
1 Tori
2 Rachel-Anne, Fliss, Flo
3 Laura
4 Fliss? Emma S, Hannorah
5 Rachel-Anne, Fliss, Flo, Miriam
6 Rachel-Anne, Fliss, Miriam, Jo
Emma R I might have missed you learning something in Westerhope, sorry!
8.30-9.30 This will swap to the Westerhope set and the rest of us can swap to general Jubilee/Westerhope. Remember these sessions can be good opportunities to remind yourselves of long-forgotten positions.
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
Here's business for the week. I'm away next week, so if you're lucky you'll
have a whole week without me mentioning the sign-up sheet!
*Coming up:*
Crawl on Thursday around Russell Sq / Holborn, likely starting in the
Perseverance -see Ellie's message or the TR facebook event for further
details. Please be there in kit ready to dance at 1915, so we can make a
prompt start and get through a good number of Westerhopes and Piccadilllys
6th March - stepping with Ru in the normal hall (I've added this to the
sign up sheet). If there are any particular timing issues let me know as
I'm just finding out about what time the hall is available.
*Sign-ups:*
*New Invite:* Saturday 2nd May at Surrey Docks Farm, Rotherhithe. Farm
Spring Fair, a performance some time between 12 and 4pm.
*Confirmed *
Thriplow confirmed for the Saturday. Details with Fliss - we should have
enough drivers to be able to arrange lifts from various places.
St Albans is confirmed
*Declined:*
Beverley - we will decline this, but hopefully another year. (Quite a few
people that would rather only do one of St Albans and Beverley, and the
team for St Albans is stronger and actually has a musician)
Just a note to say that we *do not* have anything on 17th March for Paddy's
night. There have been a lot of declined things recently, so if there are
any others that you are not sure about - the sign up sheet is all up to
date ☺
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
*AOB*
I'm going to be ordering* dance pants* based on size info I have - will
bring them in on 9th March. The new one I ordered confirms that the two
that everyone was trying on were both M/L - if it felt a bit too roomy, let
me know and I'll get a S/M instead (The S/M is slightly closer to the 11-12
one than the M/L but otherwise somewhere in between.)
The DART crowdfunding page is live. We'll shortly be sharing it via social
media, please do give it the odd share if you can.
Have a lovely week!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi all,
Absences: Emma S
I think Ffion should be joining us tonight. Anyone else absent please let me know asap.
7-7.30 clog.
7.30-9.30 first half working with alternate piccadilly set trying to get confident. If we get there it might be useful to mix up the sets, but this can happen once we're more ready if that seems best. Other people to work on style, I think there are a lot of people who know their position well and want to learn more positions but they're not yet dancing in a very "ravens" style. If we can work on this it basically makes everyone look 100% more confident!
Second half we'll split into dilly and westerz sets. We'll need someone to stay to dance at 4 in the westerhope set, and if someone could stay to watch and comment for both sets that would be helpful. Poor Sue gets asked to do a lot of spotting problems but she's only one person!
6th March - as long as we've confirmed the hall this will be the night Ru comes to help with stepping. Anyone can come but the main focus is on new people/ specific struggles!
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
Not so much to update on this week.
Joint crawl next Thursday around Holborn.
This week there will be the next DART meeting at 1830 on Wednesday at 48
Mountain House, SE11 5NW, nearest tube Vauxhall.
*Sign-ups:*
Please note there are quite a few invites which have now been declined, if
you missed the email, you can just double check on the sign-up sheet for
things that have disappeared and if not sure, then please do ask! (There
aren't many things on there post DERT)
New invite - Ffion has invited us to crawl in Wales when they get their new
house, as she doesn't know when this will be we don't have a date. For now,
I've put it in May, if you are in theory interested in going to Cardiff
then please pop yourself down and we'll work out dates in the future...
Thriplow basically confirmed, just sorting details and which day with Fliss
- though I think some of you have put Saturday in your diaries on autopilot.
Beverley Fringe - at the mo if we were to do this we would need a musician
- Will are you free? There is also a decision on whether we would rather do
this or St Albans as there are a few people that would prefer to do just
the one. So, if you are still a no reply or maybe for one of these or would
prefer to only do one, then if you could update yourself ASAP to help with
decisions please.
London Folk Festival, awaiting some info from Graham, but we can go during
the day as that's when we'll have musicians. At the mo, we could do with a
1, so again please fill in if a no-reply.
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
I currently just have Rachel as an absence - is this still correct!?
7-7.30 Clog old and new. Post DERT we probably need to figure out how to move forward with this and refocus on what people need to be confident enough to dance out.
7.30-9.30 Rapper. Starting with alternate Piccadilly side to try and get this more confident. We did some good work last week but we need to dedicate some time to Tori so she has a chance of remembering it all! At the same time we'll work on Jubilee/Westerhope, Emma H if you were happy to lead this that would be appreciated. I think many people are confident about what they need to do but there are a lot of style points to make it ravens-y. In particular looking at how to insert energy and accuracy.
Following that we'll switch to the two DERT sides as the focus. Hopefully we both have points from the crawls that we know we need to work on.
Thanks,
Becky
Hi everyone
A friend has sent this and she's more than happy if I share it with you, in case anyone is interested:
Odd request, but one of my teams looks after recruitment for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and they are holding their annual meeting in London this year.
We need a lot of people for a few days work and I wondered if it would be of interest to anyone you know? There would be a fair amount of standing so would need to be ok with that, but I thought I’d share just in case you know of anyone.
If you’re interested please email my colleague Annmarie Michael on michaela(a)ebrd.com<mailto:michaela@ebrd.com>
The bank itself is very quirky so it might be fun!

We currently have no confirmed events for the Summer. So, please now turn attention to Beverley (19-21 June) St Albans (27th June) and London Folk Festival (5th September). Brief summary below, but if you need more info, please shout! All three in red.
Thriplow, basically a yes, just sorting details and logistics. @Sue Connolly<mailto:connollysue@hotmail.com> do you know if you would be able to go or not? (Sorry - you missed out on sign-up fun yesterday!) Rachel you don't need to dance if you don't want to - I know you were keen to not do so if possible.
Beverley Fringe - this formed after the festival folded a couple of years ago. They are more than happy for us to go off and dance in pubs rather than being programmed with the Morris spots. It's about 3hrs away by train.
St Albans - day trip to dance in the pubs there and join the mass dance as well, only 20mins from St Pancras on the fast trains.
London Folk Festival - this would be day time as we don't have musicians available for the evening.

Hey all,
Absences: Sue
Anyone else please let me know asap!
Sinead, who longer-standing members of ravens will know, is paying us a visit tonight 🙂
7-7.30 Clog (old then new)
7.30-9.30 Rapper will start with splitting off the alternate dilly set Fliss, HTD, Laura, Tori and R-A. Ideally we'll be able to dance this through at a slower pace and then work on any issues. I'm aiming to get you guys confident enough that you can dance it out at speed but aware Tori is having to learn this quickly and that for Laura some of it is different to last year!
At the same time, if Katherine and Emma can do some slower stepping practice with people who are still learning our style that'd be really helpful. Especially for Miriam and Flo with Westerhope step.
If we have enough people we will, at the same time, work on Jubilee/Westerhope (which ideally Rachel will lead). Or if we don't have enough people do a mix of dancing and stepping to get everything looking more confident and ultra-ravensy.
Second half we'll split into the two sets. As always, people don't have to hang around for that second half but having people to watch is always really helpful!
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
Little update for the week.
Firstly - incredible amount raised on the dilly crawl last week - £242 can
we match that next week in the crawls??
I've bought some different sizes of *blue safety pants*, please do try them
on at practice and let me know what size you would like. Would strongly
recommend for dancing Piccadilly in particular - might as well make it
clear that it was safety pants not bum in the odd accidental popcorn flash!
They're pretty cheap as well (< £3).
*Westerhope Day Practice *in the usual hall 11-5 (I've asked to double
check about the extra hour as originally booked 10-4, but am sure it will
be fine!).
*DERT update*
Hopefully you have all sorted out your travel to DERT - please fill in the
spreadsheet to let me know whether you are sorted or not (and if you can
pop the ticket cost in there too, that will help Emma H tot everything up).
There is still one spare ticket on 1803 on the Friday valid with either
16-25 or 26-30 railcard - please let me know asap if you want it! If you
can't remember whether we bought one for you already, it will be in there
for you to check.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14dVIjC84A5GZKa3ngXuRlyJlIiy_vnUrKPF…
There are now evening tickets on sale if there are any more plus ones
lurking - please let me know if they need accommodation.
*Sign-ups*
We're slowly getting there!
*17th March* in middle of negotiations around the fee... though they want
to pay a lot less than we are willing to do music and dance for, so may not
end up doing it. Will update next week
*Broadstairs & **Priddy* - Becky is just reviewing these in terms of
numbers, so if you are still a no reply/maybe please look at that asap (I
may also chase in person if it makes a difference to her Go/No Go decision).
Can we now turn focus to 5th September -* London Folk Festival *which we
have enjoyed before. And the other key two to decide on are *Beverley
Fringe* (19-21 June) and* St Albans Folk Festival* (27th June) - if it's
one or the other please do say.
Plenty of other things on the sign-up sheet so please do fill those in
while you're there!

And finally - the DART fundraising ceilidh planned for 23rd April in C#
House with Nick Walden calling!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi all,
I have ordered shoes for the following:
Size 4: me, Emma H and Sue
Size 5: Katherine, Fliss, Hannah TD, Hannorah and Tori
Size 6: Flo
Size 7: Emma S
Hopefully I haven't missed anyone, and I'm happy to order extra from the same place if I have missed anyone.
The shoes were slightly different prices, but I thought for ease if I totaled the cost and divided by 10 that was simpler and fairer.
Can each person transfer me £26.55 asap?
Details are: Mrs R L Watson
Card no. 4751 4002 2899 8204
Sort code: 09/24
Thanks,
Becky
P.S. I can't transport 10 pairs of shoes very easily. They're being delivered to my work near Lambeth North/Waterloo. If anyone was able to pick theirs up from here that would be amazing. Or even feeling generous enough to pick up someone else's and take it to practice? I can probably manage a fair amount if I remember a giant bag!
Hi all,
Absences: Hannah TD, Rachel, Emma H
Anyone else, please let me know asap. Please remember this time of year is really critical in prep for the competition so if you know that you will be absent in advance make sure you let myself and Fliss (if in westerhope side) know so we can plan accordingly.
Clog 7-7.30 1st 15 mins old clog followed by last 15 mins new. Continue gathering confidence so happy to dance out.
Rapper 7.30-9.30
First half I'd like to run through piccadilly with: Fliss, Hannah N, Laura, Tori and Rachel-Anne. Essentially I want to make sure we have an alternative should anything happen to a main competition member (HN obviously filling spot for HTD). This is particularly important for Laura and Tori who are the least familiar with the dance at this stage!
At the same time we can work on jubilee/ westerhope with other people. Helping to gather confidence and the fine details. As always, if there is something in particular please let me know.
Second half - split westerhope off - I know Fliss wants to look at chain as a decision needs to be made on this by the start of next week and you don't want to spend the entire day practice on it. (For 3 I would borrow me/Laura/Hannah N we'll establish which tonight).
Dilly Dert set I would like to do some stepping work, but other than that I think without Emma we're better to just do more general work with other people.
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
Thanks for all the super efforts at the Burns Night ceilidh with
everything. The dancing went down well and we made over £1000 which is
going towards DART.
*Coming up this week* we have the dilly crawl on Thursday around Kennington
so watch out for details from Ellie. If you aren't in the dilly set but
fancy coming out that would be lovely. (We raised £131 on the last one)
Sunday 2nd we have the dilly day practice at 33 Oval Road, NW1 7EA 11-5.
Various things on sign-ups below. We do need to be sorting out what we want
to do for the Summer now. We have an additional feature where Martin and
Will are getting fewer available dates as they are accepting gigs if we
aren't committed to stuff. So we are at risk of not having a musician.
*Urgent Response Required Invites*
Priddy not too sure at the mo, but could the following people try and put a
Yes/No on by the end of the week please:
Clare, Emma R, Emma S, Hannah TD, Hannorah, Joanna, Laura, Fliss, Emma H
Broadstairs - could the following people put a Yes/No on by the end of the
week please:
Clare, Emma R, Hannah TD, Joanna, Rachel-Anne, Laura, Hannorah,
*New Invites:*
Beverley Fringe 19-21st June - this replaces the Beverley Folk Festival
which folded a couple of years ago after the funding was pulled. The are
very happy for us to just go and hit the pubs or be programmed instead if
we prefer (would suggest hitting the pubs...)
*Declined Invites:*
Ossett Beer Cart is a No - we don't have enough to commit now and they are
chasing us on it.
7 Champs Ale is also a No
*Other Invites:*
St Patrick's Pub gig, ideally they would like us to do an hour of music and
dance - we can pick the time that suits us. After that we could hit a few
more pubs if people fancy it/want more of an outing? This is paid gig, and
a repeat one, so responding reasonably soon would be ideal...
Otherwise, please generally sign-up to stuff. If it is easier scribbling on
my paper copy at practice, then please do! I'm sure by next week there will
be something else we are being chased on..

Hello folks,
Absences: Hannah TD, Laura W, Rachel-Anne. Katherine is a maybe. Miriam you were a no but I don't think you've been able to go to China??
Anyone else, let me know.
7-7.30 Clog: Old clog, grow in confidence, make sure the shuffles etc. are all really measured and not rushing. New clog, similar. Grow in confidence and try not to make mistakes!
7.30-8.30 Working on dances generally, good opportunity for people to build confidence on positions. Ideally we'll have a dilly group, although with absences this might be tricky so might not be able to spend as much time as I'd like on it. If you have anything you want to work on please let me know.
8.30-9.30 breaking out into dilly and westerz groups. We will need someone to cover no. 3 in westerhope, although can obviously fake the tumble!
Reminder that the crawl this week is for Dilly set, although you are 100% welcome if you fancy a few pub trips.
Thanks,
Becky
