Hi team
Here's a link to a video of Westerhope - it's not great quality and misses
off the beginning and end (though you're welcome to add it to youtube if
you particularly want) but thought people might like to see it as it's a
pretty good birds eye view.

Thanks everyone for a wonderful first time at Dert!

Hello Ravens!
1. Scores2. Ffion is retiring3. Monday the 27th please come along!!4. Pictures and videos
1. Huzzah we came third in the championship! Maintaining our title despite having a much more complex dance we are yet to totally master.
Also well done to the Westerhope team who performed brilliantly and beat SALLYPORT- yes it turns out even premier teams can drop their swords and get all in a mix up :) Obviously a huge special mention to Sinead for putting so much hard work in and making it all come together- it will make a brilliant second dance for summer events and can definitely be worked on to be entered again next year!
If you want to see a break down of our scores go to:
http://www.dertinfo.co.uk/
Log in as: info(a)towerravens.org.ukPassword: Cornhill
If you click on 'details' on the 'my info' page and then click 'results' in the bit about Active Registrations.
This brings up all our individual marks for the different pubs :) Sadly trad marks aren't on there, neither are the comments or just a summary of marks. I will keep an eye and let people know!
2. In other news this morning Ffion announced that she wants to stand down as Leader- she's done a fantastic job but it's a lot of work and brain power and she'd like someone else to have a go! This will be decided at the EGM, please use this week to consider if there is anyone you would like to nominate and we will vote at the EGM.
3. We are all back to normal on Monday 27th. We know the run up to DERT is very intensive and prevents some people from joining because there are only so many dance spaces! At the EGM we will discuss what we want to spend the next couple of months working on and the 27th will be a sort of open practice to get people going at stuff they've not done before.
4. Thanks to everyone who took videos and photos (and were an amazing supportive audience!) If you have good ones please send them to the team address as then Laura can make them Tower Ravens ones (either on youtube/facebook whatever)
See you all NEXT Monday! Thank you for an absolutely amazing weekend, I hope everyone had as good a time as I did :)
Becky xx
P.s. Ffion has her album launch on Saturday so hopefully see some of you there
Well done to you too Ffion! What an amazing result at DERT mostly down to your hard work and planning. You've been bloody brilliant and will be a tough foreperson to follow. xx

Subject: [Tower Ravens] Hooray for DERT & standing down
Hi all,
I hope everyone who came to DERT arrived home safely and that all aching limbs, throats and heads are improving!
It was a brilliant weekend. Even if you weren't there you've probably all seen we came THIRD in the championship!!! We were all very pleased as this was the aim we set ourselves at the AGM, but it seemed a very difficult task when we found out about the two ex-premier and two premier B teams in our category. We danced well all day and there were lots of comments about how energetic the dance was and how we looked so much more confident as a team year on year. We came 5th out of 6 in the trad competition. Phil Heaton said we were deducted marks for not doing the 'right figures' despite the notation saying you could choose your own combination, plus him not noticing we did jigging guard! Regardless of the points, the Westerhope dance looked really tidy and we definitely showed that we've got a talented and versatile team of dancers by taking part!
At breakfast this morning I announced that I would like to stand down as foreperson. It's been an honour to be in the position for the last two and a half years and I'm very proud of how the team has grown and progressed in so many ways during that time. I've decided to step down for a few reasons, the main one being that I'd like some of my 'spare time' back! This feel like the right time to step down as it will give the new foreperson the opportunity to find their feet during the least stressful period of the year. The coming months/year should also be less difficult to plan as we've now got 4 dances and nearly 20 dancers so there's a lot of material for the new foreperson to work with. Rest assured that I'm not planning on going away anywhere - I'm still happy to help with teaching and will be more than happy to advise the new foreperson as and when they wish. Someone asked if there was a 'job description' for the role. I think there was something in a previous AGM agenda which I can try and dig out, but if anyone is thinking of standing for the role and has any questions please feel free to get in touch.
Last but not least, a reminder that The Foxglove Trio's album launch party is next Saturday evening at The Slaughtered Lamb near Farringdon. Doors open at 7pm and there will be two support acts - tunes band Root & Branch and then Laura Smyth & Ted Kemp - before The Foxglove Trio at approx 9pm. You will probably be able to get tickets on the door but if you're fairly sure you can come you might want to buy tickets in advance. http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-foxglove-trio-album-launch-party-for-thes…
Enjoy your evening off tomorrow!

Oh bloomin' good spot Sinéad. Apologies all - please see amended version attached. Reckon we should leave the hostel c.9.45 just to give ourselves plenty of time to get there and get sorted pre-warm up. LatersHx

Thanks Hanorah, that looks great.
One thing though, the warm up timings are here: http://www.dert2015.co.uk/attention-sil-vous-plait-dert-2015-warm-up-timing…
It looks like we need to be at the Beer Emporium by 10.20 ish, if the warm up slots are 10-10.30. It means we should see plenty of the competition and/or have time to dance in a non-DERT pub or two.
See you tomorrow!

I've also done a suggested (only suggested) schedule for Saturday based around the timings of our dance spots and the time it takes to walk between venues.
I'll print a load of these out and bring them with me too.

Hello all,
Just to let you know that I picked up the hoodies yesterday - huzzah! Attempt 2 is definitely better than the first attempt.
As you all probably know, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. The colour match isn't as good as I would have liked, but there isn't much I can do about that now. Sincere apologies.
Also, as you are probably aware, this job was rushed through by my friend Faye yesterday. Whilst the print is fine and dry, she didn't get chance to "bake" it. This means that the inks are not yet colour-fast and therefore shouldn't be washed in the washing machine yet.
Ways to make the ink colour-fast includes either ironing or baking in the oven. I will get back to everyone with further instructions on how to do this properly so it doesn't ruin the print. Again, apologies for all this faff. The whole process has caused me no end of stress. I hope everyone else is happy with the hoodies.
See you all later!

Hello all!
I miss you all to bits and I'm so glad to stay updated on the fun things
going on with the team. I've been watching all the videos and you guys look
amazing! I am sure you guys will kick some serious butt at DERT and I will
be glued to my computer all day on Saturday to hear the results. I'm so
glad that I had the chance to dance with the team for a few months and I'm
always looking for a reason to come back.
Once a raven always a raven,

Ok so apparently copying and pasting from a google drive excel spreadsheet into an actual excel spreadsheet causes madness.
Hopefully this version on Word will be better! Thanks for people who spotted the wacky nature of numbers, please let me know if this has done anything weird too!
Thanks all!

Hi all,
Just to say well done on tonight's practice. Both dances are looking really slick and energetic and the music and stepping is all sounding really crisp. I'm very impressed with the work everyone has put in to making this happen and I really hope the judges are just as impressed with the outcome! Regardless of how well we do in the competitions I think we're going to make a really good impression on the rapper world - we're going to be a massive team who look great and have a fun time together. What more could you ask for?!
See you at Paddington/in Bristol!
Ffion x
Hello all,
So tonight is the last practice before DERT eeeep! So looking forward to seeing you there. In case you can't make it/you need it in writing I thought I would confirm one last time the following details:
1. Trains2. Where to go in Bristol if you're not with the group3. Plans for after DERT4. What to bring for DERT
1. Those getting the group train: 13.28 from Paddington, please get there as close to 1 as possible!
2. If you are travelling separate from the group these are the places to aim for:
Accommodation: Homestay Bristol, 68 Queens Road, BS8 1QU. This can be travelled to on the 8/9 bus from the station/get a taxi
Welcome venue, which is much closer to the station so some people might want to go straight there:Broad Plain Boys Club, Clement Street, BS2 9ES
This starts at 6 but I assumed we'd get there a little later than that- watch this space :)
3. The Monday after DERT (13th) we are having off to give our feet a rest.
The following Monday (20th) we will be in the hall as usual but having our EGM and a bit of a party to celebrate all our hard work. Last time we all brought some snacks/drink and it was a really nice evening. There isn't that much to cover at the EGM, mostly it will involve yes/no responses rather than major discussion. Please find attached the plan for the EGM, if there is anything you would like discussing please let me know and I can add it to the agenda. If for any reason you can't make the EGM but feel there is something you want to discuss/strongly have an opinion on, please email me and I will make sure your points are raised.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come with your diary's, if nothing else I will be hounding people for responses on upcoming invites.
After that it will be practice as usual!
4. Please remember for the weekend you need: kit! Nicely ironed and clean. This includes polished shoes, sports bra, bobbles etc for hair. There are NO towels provided at the accommodation.
Thanks all- see most of you later.

Hello,
Last night we managed to get through a shortened version of Westerhope, to be danced out on Friday. I've attached my notes on the dance; the order is still subject to change, but you can read through the figures.
For Friday the dance will be:Walk on in a line, step for 8Walk around and Turn Out (single guard in order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)Lock, step for 8, break out in walk around fashionCoach and horses, immediately into Double Cramper (1, 2, 4, & 5 step while 3 walks around, 3 steps while the rest do a mini curly, repeat)Lock, step, breakCoach and Horses, immediately into either Tipping Guard (3 moves forward, jumps over 5's sword and tumbles), or Jigging Guard (like Stand in Guard, but with no tumble)Lock, step, breakCoach and horses, immediately into Right and Left (3x curleys, then 3x figure of 8)
Walk around, Back Lock on 4, 1 takes lock & display in line, break the lockCoach and Horses immediately into modified Fourth Corner (1 & 5 jump, then 3 jumps)Lock3 takes lock to display in line, step for 8 until 'out' is called, grin widely in relief, march off after 8 bars as usual
Have a good week,Sinéad
Hi Ravens
I think most people are sorted, but if anyone needs any more kit for DERT
can you let me know and I can bring it for you next Tuesday. I am now in
possession of spare shirts, sashes, skirts, petticoats, tights and neckers.
I will be bringing spares of everything to DERT, but not many :-)
Kate
Travel for DERT: Here it is in writing!
We will be leaving Paddington at 13.28 and arriving in Bristol at 15.15. We will meet at Paddington at as close to 1 as people can manage, this gives us enough time to mess around making sure we're all there, obtaining snacks etc. Me and Ken will have the tickets as we're all sat together (he seems suspicious Thrales will lose them, this was confirmed by all of them asking him to look after them!)
On arriving in Bristol we can get the no.8/9 bus towards Kingsdown for about 15mins, getting off at Park Street Stop followed by a short walk.
I'm not sure what time we want to get the welcome venue, it kicks off from about 6, but to get there we're back on the no.8/9 bus towards Clifton- from Queens Road and travelling for about 10 mins, getting off at Penn Street, followed by a less than 10 min walk.--->To get back again we have less than 10 minute walk to Bond Street and get the no.8/9 towards Kingsdown getting off at Park Street with our little walk.
I am happy to announce we are an 8 minute walk from the evening venue :)
Timetable is out tomorrow so I will do getting to the first pub and from last to the evening event. We should get city maps on the day.
I will hopefully produce maps on tomorrows lunch break.
SIGNUPS:
In particular please consider May day tour with Thrales, 2-4th May Rochester Sweeps, 28th May Demon Barbers.
Also fresh on the sheet is St Neots DAy of Dance on the 13th June

Hello all,
After dert we will be having an EGM. At the moment I propose the 20th April
which is the second Monday after DERT (giving us the immediate monday after
dert off). Last year we had a bit of a party so I thought we could probably
combine the two.
I need to filter through the AGM minutes to find action points etc but
think we've done a good job of achieving what we intended to. I will put
out a proposed agenda as soon as possible for people to read through.
Please be thinking of any points you may like to raise and then if they're
not in the agenda we can add them in.
I think we could have it in the practice hall same time as usual. I will
mention this in practice tomorrow with some further details.

Hi all,
Well done on last night - both dances looked considerably improved! Here are two videos:
New dance: http://youtu.be/xIDdCDUlYB0
Westerhope: http://youtu.be/AH7EoYpg8ns
Martin from Northgate said he liked the energy at the beginning of the new dance and he didn't think we'd come last in the trad. Hooray!
Thanks again to Hannorah or organising. I think the income might have have slightly less because we only did 6 pubs, although we did do 10 dances which I think might be a record!

Hello all,
1. Crawl2. Dert Merchandise3. Signup sheet- new event and old!
1. First off thank you to everyone who came on the crawl last night! We made just under £114 which considering pubs such as O'Neils giving us about 50p is pretty darn good!
Special thanks to Hannorah, both for organising a great crawl (again) and for joining me at shouting at the crowds.
2. Also I thought i should give everyone who might not have already seen, a link to the DERT merchandise- I think most of it needs to be pre-ordered rather than something we can just get at the weekend- please have a look so you don't feel disappointed later:http://www.dert2015.co.uk/by-popular-and-audience-demand-another-dert-2015-t-shirt-style-with-the-dancers-on-the-back/
3. LAstly I have put two new events on the sign up sheet, Demon Barbers have asked us to be part of their show, 28th May at Kings Place, just near Kings Cross Station- we'd get discounted tickets but I think we'd need to let them know sharpish. More info about the event is here:http://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on-book-tickets/music/the-demon-barbers-xl#.VRVPkvysVEK
Consensus is that it's very good advertising for us so would be great if we could get a team, and anyone who has been to the show says it's worth seeing.
Second event was we were invited to Leigh on Sea again, 27th-28th June, we're already invited to Canterbury Folk festival which people seemed more keen to go to, if we could get some replies that would be great so we can start confirming these spots before it's too late. I know i still need to do it, but go through with your diary and give me yes no maybe- any response is better than none!
And a reminder re. 17th June in Greenwich, these morris sides do everything well in advance and I think they're really wanting a confirmation, please check :)
Link to signup sheet here- NO EXCUSES!

Hello!
A bit of personal promo...
As most of you know I'm in a folk band called The Foxglove Trio. We're having an album launch party on 18 April at The Slaughtered Lamb pub near Farringdon. The excellent Laura Smyth & Ted Kemp will be one of the support acts.
I'm telling you now because we've got a competition to win a free pair of tickets but the deadline to enter is TONIGHT at midnight. Enter here or buy tickets here.
See you soon!

Please take a look at my blog on Welsh folk songs - caneuongwerin.wordpress.com
Hi all,
Well done on last night. I think the Westerhope is looking much smoother and at least now we know that we can do the new dance even if Becky's hand doesn't get better in time for DERT!
Two videos:
New dance http://youtu.be/9i8E-8zfbec
A very small amount of Westerhope before my ipad memory ran our http://youtu.be/v-qp38cjV-E
Just to update you on kit - I went to H&M yesterday and was told that you can only get our tshirts from 'big shops' like Oxford Street so I'll try again this week.
Let's use Thursday as a chance to practice not only dancing well but also looking good - hair tied back, good bra, no jewellery, smiley faces etc. Also, remember we're supposed to be thinking about more inventive things to do with out hair ribbons. Any ideas welcome!
See you soon,
Ffion x
Hi All
Rather unoriginally we're crawling round Russell Square/Euston/Kings Cross area on Thursday.
Thought we'd meet at usual time of 7 (ready to dance 7.30) but in a slightly different pub - The Swan on Cosmo Street: http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/swan-holborn/c0124/?utm_source=g_places&…
I'll see if I can reserve a table from 7. If you want to get there early & eat let me know & I'll book for earlier.
To get there, best bet is to go to Holborn tube station, come out, turn right, keep walking up Southampton Row for about 5 mins (towards Russell Square direction), then Cosmo Place is a little street on the right.
I foresee the crawl looking something like this, possibly with some pubs down Eversholt St if these ones don't come off
The Swan (above)
Callaghans - Marchmont Street - http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/31/31375/Callaghans/Russell_Square
Marquis of Cornwallis - Marchmont St
http://m.themarquiscornwalliswc1.co.uk/home/
Mabel's Tavern - Mabeldon Place
http://www.mabelstavern.co.uk
Somers Town Coffee House - Charlton Street
http://www.thesomerstowncoffeehouse.co.uk
The Rocket - Euston Road
http://m.therocketeustonroad.co.uk/home/
The Euston Flyer - Euston Road
O'Neill's - Euston Road
http://www.oneills.co.uk/kings-cross/
The Boot - Cromer Street
The Dolphin - Tonbridge Street - http://www.thedolphin-pub.com
The Harrison to finish - Harrison St
http://www.harrisonbar.co.uk
Rules are same as last time: when we arrive a each pub get ready to dance straight away (I'll go ahead to each pub to check we can dance); volunteer to take round a collecting tankard if you're not dancing (don't wait to be asked); unless we decide it's a 'drinking pub' be ready to leave soon after every dance.
See you then

Hello all,
So the order for the hoodies is under way, and I had to pay half as a deposit up-front. It actually totals £20.25 per hoody. Can those who said they want a hoody start sending me money now please? :)
I had 14 people requesting hoodies, but have ordered 20 so that a couple are left over for any newbies/others who may decide they want one, or so that people generally get a choice for size. As for the other 6 which do not have immediate homes, do you want to give me the money, Sue? Or, since I owe the team a lot of money you could just deduct this from the huge total that I still need to pay...
Anyway, my bank details are:
Name: Laura M Smyth
Sort code: 010039
Account number: 60858591
See you Monday.
