Hi,
I mentioned ICBINI last night, so here's more information if you're interested.
ICBINI is short for 'I can't believe it's not IVFDF', and IVFDF is the major student led annual folk festival. This year Warwick Folk are hosting ICBINI (in Coventry) from 21st-23rd November. There'll be plenty of different workshops (music and dance), two ceilidhs and casual sessions- it's a really fun weekend. It's run on a shoestring so just £5 for a weekend ticket, and another £5 for indoor camping. There's a facebook event here.
I had a lovely weekend last time Warwick hosted it- I think Nikki was involved in the very memorable Scandinavian singing for dancing workshop and demonstration? If five of us are going we can sign up for a display spot during the ceilidh, and there might be a rapper workshop as it's Warwick (Jake's stepping workshop was really helpful last time.) It's run by students, but there are plenty of ex-students and non-students and it's open to all. Train tickets to Coventry are still pretty reasonable, and it takes an hour or two.
It'd be lovely to see some of you there,
Sinéad
Really really sorry about missing tonight.
Had a few deadlines at work so just leaving now, and by the time I get to you practice will be over. :-(
Promise I'll make it next week.

Hello all,
Mabel Day date has officially been announced as Sunday 7th December. It's a really fun day with lots of other rapper teams and lots of good pubs in Oxford, which you can get to pretty easily and cheaply on either a bus or train. The day starts with people gathering around 11 with the dancing officially kicking off at 12 and culminating around 5ish at a pub with lots of cake and normally some sort of music session.
For those who don't know the Mabels are essentially famous for their love of cake (normally accompanied by gin) what other excuse do you need?
Although it's essentially an open invite they do need a confirmation so fill in the sheet :)

Also for anyone who is wondering about the AGM. I am currently creating a basic document of points to discuss etc. which I will send round and will be accepting suggestions for anything to add etc. I've already had an email from Lindsey with points some of you thought of at Tenterden which I will be including. I request you don't contact me with suggestions until I've sent it out because you'll only confuse my little-overworked-brain.
Cheers,
Becky xx
Hi all,
Thanks to everyone who came last night. I thought it went really well and it was nice to be able to introduce some total novices to rapper as well as teach our dance to people who've already got some dancing experience. I think a few of our 5 workshop attendees will keep coming too.
I think the plan for the next 4 weeks is pretty simple - teach new people Jubilee and teach old people (you know what I mean!) the new dance. It would be good to get new people and the new dance out on the October crawl and Thrales day, depending on who's available to come to those events.
Have a good week!
Ffion x
Hi all
I know it's a bit cheeky to use the team email address for this, but could I trouble you to take 30 seconds to vote for Age UK (who I work for) in the Candis Charity Challenge. If we win we get £10k:

Thanks a million

1. Tenterden feedback
2. Invite back to York
3. Sign up sheet- AGM please!
Just had this nice e-mail from the people at Tenterden- well done everyone that went and battled through the rain!
Just a note to say a huge thanks to everyone who came and danced and played music at Tenterden this year. On the whole it seems to have gone very well despite
the amazing amount of 'liquid sunshine' that fell during the procession and also the heavy frost that hit the campsite over night on Saturday. However the rest of the
time was glorious sunshine (only in the UK of course!!!)
For those of you that braved the procession - a huge thank you (its taken a while to dry out all the kit!!!!) It was good to see some public supporting us in our moment
of madness.....................
Thanks again and we hope to see you all again next year (keep the date: Friday 2nd Oct - Sunday 4th October 2015).
Cheers

2. Also Ebor Morris have invited us back to York next year (12th to 13th September) although it is just to try and get a vague idea of who is available to go again- have a think on if you'd like to go again, I'll bring this up in next weeks business.
3. As always please take time to have a quick look at the Sign Up Sheet, in particular show your availability for the AGM on the 10th November- if you want to have your say on the direction of the team or any suggestions this is the time to share them!

See you on Monday,
B xx
P.s. well done to all the people helping yesterday at the open workshop, I think it went really well. Sorry I was somewhat skulking in the sidelines, still rather worn out!
Hi all,
Here's the rough plan for tonight.
7.30 Hello
7.35 Stepping (unless there's anyone who's never seen rapper before in which case demo first)
7.45 Assign numbers and Jubilee with Tommy and tumble
7.50 Split into 2 sets to learn some figures
8.25 Break
8.40 Another demo
8.45 Learning figures
9.15 Performance!
Last time we taught them a simplified version of the dance e.g. Cutting out back 8 and moving fixy instead of flying pixies. I think we should just see how it goes with the dancers we get tonight but we should aim to go from the beginning through to the lock (excluding tumble) and end the dance there. If there are more than 10 people we won't be able to do this much.
Any more volunteer teachers always welcome!
See you later,
Ffion x
Ditto to Becky I'm afraid,
I've been off work ill the last couple of days and feel pretty rotten.
Strangely, the guy we're hiring the car from contacted us today and said it now has a fault. Someone out there really doesn't want us to go.
Really sorry everyone. I hope you've got enough numbers.

Hello all,
Unfortunately that feeling of being ill has grown to the point I'm off work today. Mainly I think I'm just worn out and so I'm not going to make it tomorrow.
Sorry to not be there, I hope you all have a wonderful time and that there are lots or pictures!

By my account we are now down to an absolute bear-basics team with:
1 - Ffion
2 - Janet
3 - Lindsey
4 - Hannorah/Sinead
5 - Sue
Can we all confirm that we are all going to be there - if anyone drops out we don't have a side...

Just to let you know that due to a duplication on the schedule that Maenads
are not dancing on the marquee stage at the 11am spot (they were down at 2
different spots at that time). It should just be Tanglefoot, Tower Raven
and the USO 1940 dancers at that time!

Hi all,
I think I have somewhat stressed the organiser by leaving it until yesterday to give final numbers BUT he seems to think we'll be ok for parking and I have three weekend tickets reserved for Sue, Laura and Ted which you can pick up from the town hall. Maybe you could pick those up Sue since you'll be there first?
See you on Saturday.
B xx
Hi
Thank you Sue for organizing and Lindsey for providing lifts but I have decided to drive from South London. Please confirm what time we are meeting.
Janet x
Ok, so STILL don't have a time table but I've messaged saying we can't get there for ten, which he seems ok with. He says the procession is at 3 but would like to get there as early as we can-which is fair enough.
Drivers- what time should I say we're getting there- I'm not sure of journey times.
B x
Hi all,
I forgot to say last night that we need some people to volunteer to teach next week. Even if only two people turn up to the open practice/workshop then I'd like to have two sets (it's easier to get one newbie through a set then two) so we'll need at least 2 teachers. I'm quite happy not to be in charge of a set if two people want to teach. If we get any bigger festival bookings next summer we might need to run workshops at which point we'd need several people who can teach so this would be a good opportunity to give teaching a go in a safe environment.
Remember to invite all your friends! Coming to the open practice doesn't mean they have to become committed ravens for life :-) Here's the facebook event -

See many of you in Tenterden on Saturday,
Ffion x
Hi, really sorry guys but I'm not gonna be able to make it this evening. Have a great practice and really looking forward to learning the new dance. Joanna 😀

Great crawl last night. Thanks to Laura and Anna for organising - lots of good pubs with some very enthusiastic punters! No idea how much money we collected but my guess is £144.44.
Is anyone else super tired this morning?

Hi all,
1.Tenterden: Travel and Accommodation2. Thrales Day Signup
So I realised last night that Tenterden is fast approaching (Next Saturday) can I please confirm who would be available to drive and how many spaces that will leave them? I'm hoping we can use the parking provided although it is limited. Anyone wanting a lift please consider which driver you can get to- it takes an absolute age for them to drive and pick people up!
We discussed camping- are people wanting to stay? It looks as if indoor camping would be unavailable, leaving us with outdoor camping- which we do have to pay for, although I can't see any prices.
Please see attached for further details:https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=8a3624d8b4&view=att&th=14…
I have also e-mailed the organiser re. confirming details on parking and camping and times, so hopefully can be more helpful soon- I hadn't realised how close it was!
2. We have officially been invited to Thrales Day! Can people please sign up to their availability so that I can confirm with MJ- 9th NOVEMBER 2014 - Thrales Day -The Prince William Henry, 218, Blackfriars Rd, London, SE1 8NLDancing from 12.30 until 4pm, dancing with lots of other teams from round and about.
Also a reminder for Simon's Birthday 25th October, I think we just have a team but if we had anyone else it would support us a lot more. Nikki isn't available but I think the place will be teaming with musicians/ should anyone else like to play please say :)

Cheers me dears,
Becky
Hey all,
We still haven't had an official time table but the guy said dancing usually starts around 10??
This seems a very early start from London- does that sound like last year - people who were there?
In all honesty I think I'm so far from all of the pick up points that I might have to say I'm not going. Work is absolutely rammed at the moment making me permanently shattered and am suspicious that for me to get to a pick up point in time to get to the festival would involve a 6oclock start or something. This may be wrong, my London Geography is so bad I don't know where most of the places named are but having had a quick scan they all take a long journey.
>From the list of who's going I don't think I'm actually needed?
I will see some of you tonight, and if not Monday :)
B xx
Hi,
I'm really sorry but I'm having a dizzy day so I'm probably going to miss tonight as well. If I make a sudden recovery I'll come along, but don't expect me. I hope you have a great night.
Sorry,
Sinead

Hi AllIt's looking more and more unlikely that I'm gonna make it tonight.
I'm going away tomorrow - super excited cos it's my time day off since Easter, but super-stressed as have a lot to get through at work & think it's going to mean working late.
Really sorry to leave it to the last minute. I've had a look at the sign-up sheet and looks like there's Sinead, Becky and possibly Ffion who could dance 4 in my absence. So I don't think I'm dropping you in it too much.
If this is going to cause a massive problem please let me know, otherwise I'll see you all for Tenderden next Saturday.

Hello team ravens,
Just to let you know that for tomorrow's crawl we are meeting at the Pineapple pub in Kentish Town. Please be there and ready to dance by 7.30. They serve thai food if you want to get there early and eat (although I have never eaten there and not sure what time they serve from).
For a full list of pubs we will be visiting during the course of the evening, please see the Facebook event.
See you tomorrow!
