So... It turns out I thought Ffion and Laura's gig was the 4th Sept but it's not so in that case I have totally double booked myself for this evening and can't make it. Boo! Have a fantastic evening and sorry not to be there.
Hope to see you all soon

Hi,
(New)
Katherine here! I was learning 5.
Sorry that I
haven’t made many practices this month, the last few weeks have been chaotic (and
I can’t make it tonight as I’m viewing a house) but it’s all settling down now
and I should be able to make normal practices again from next week.

Hi all,
After a fun crawl on Thursday (see film of Flower of Forest dance http://youtu.be/pRnLIZV9aZg) and lots of holidays I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of practices and making lots more progress with this new dance. I've created a draft new dance which is at the end of this email. I'm sure it will need to be edited and refined but at least it's something to work towards. I know we haven't had our session on 'dancing in small and slippery places' yet but I think we should focus on the new dance as much as possible for the next month and make sure we do small and slippery before the October crawl. We'll have another new member tomorrow - an American called Anna who's done some rapper before. Maybe she'll be able to teach us some cool made up American figures! (New) Katherine, can you remember which number you were learning?

Beadnell reminder with York people: 1) Katherine 2) Laura S 3) Kat B 4) Becky 5) Sue

New dance - go through the figures we haven't looked at yet: 1) Jo 2) Laura 3) Becky 4) Hannorah 5) Katherine - winlaton spin into needles into triangle lock, "jumpy figure" (don't worry, I know what I mean!)
8 Sept -

In this practice I'd like to focus mostly on the new dance - getting 5 people all the way through with music then teaching more people some of the figures. We might also do some work on stepping.

Perfecting (!) new dance: 1) Ffion, 2) Lindsey 3) Becky 4) Hannorah 5) Katherine
As always, please let me know if you can't be at a practice, especially if your name's on the list. I'm hoping we'll be able to have 2 sets going most weeks from now on.

Turns out we got this useful information regarding York the other day! In my defence I was moving house so I completely forgot.
1. If you have any items of kit, coats, instrument boxes etc that you do not want to carry in the procession we will have someone in Kings Sq from 10am to sit an guard them until you arrive there. 2. We are not supposed to actively collect from the public, but we are allowed to put out collecting "vessels" and ask for donations. Please do! - we will have 4 "donation" hats available. 3. York City Centre is designated an "alcohol free area" on the streets. This does NOT mean you cannot drink alcohol on the streets. What it means is that if you are asked to stop drinking in a public area by a police officer then you MUST - or risk being arrested! Most pubs will not let you take drink out in glasses but will in tankards. Some bar staff will tell you it is an offence to take drink out, or drink alcohol in the street. This is NOT true as explained to me by the licensing officers recently. If you experience difficulties - go to another pub!!!
The times look like quite long slots but we do need travel time in there too to get from one dance spot to the other so hopefully will give us enough time to do a variety of people at different numbers without us all getting tired!
As we can store stuff for the day I am not going to worry about us needing storage lockers.
I will need £10 from everyone on the day for accommodation.
Everyone should bring: sleeping bag,air bed/mat (we don't know how many dance mat things there are)change of clothes for the social!I'm taking wet wipes in an attempt to get less sweaty for said social after dancingif people want tea and coffee they may well have to bring it-there is a kettle at the accommodationtrain tickets!
Please let me know if there is anything else you are unsure of and I will try and find out for you.

Hi all,
Sorry for not sending anything about the crawl sooner. I've just been out to square some pubs (2 yeses, 2 maybe, 1 no but you can dance outside) and will do some more after work on Tuesday. This is my proposed route, for those who want to know where we're going and to put on social media. I've got more on here than we'll need because I'm sure some will say no/not have decent floors.
The crown and cushion (yes)The horse and stable (maybe)The Walrus (yes)The Artichoke and Camel (outside)Duke of SussexThe Stage DoorThe Cut at the Young VicThe Kings ArmsThe White HartThe WellingtonThe Hole in the wall
I've put them on a google map so you should be able to see the route. The first few pubs are closer to Lambeth North tube station than Waterloo itself but I think we should definitely end at the Hole in the Wall which is right next to Waterloo.
I think we usually say arrive at 7pm in order to start dancing at 7.30pm. The first pub does food, although it may all be Thai! There are lots of people signed up to come, so it should be a good night. I'm certainly looking forward to dancing again - feels like it's been ages what with all my holidays! We still don't have a musician - Nikki is a 'no reply' and Laura is a 'maybe'. Can either of you make it? Patrick might be able to come but he won't be able to commit until the day (the rabbit's having the chop and we don't know what time he'll wake up at!). I'm happy to ask Martin if necessary.
See you soon,
Ffion x

Hi All!
Good practice yesterday, not absolutely perfect but well done Kat on getting solid at 3, reckon a few times out next Thursday and we'll be on for York!
Also Rhona took a video of us dancing some new moves so hopefully that will all help in developing the new dance :)
REMINDER: There will be no practice this coming Monday (25th) as it is Bank Holiday. We ARE crawling on that Thursday in Waterloo, as organised by Ffion. I have noticed that we don't have a musician- Laura you're down as a maybe? Or do we need to get someone else- maybe Patrick?
Re. York:
I am waiting to hear back from the accommodation regarding payment but that is all still under way. At the moment we don't have anywhere to leave our luggage, although there are various locker facilities available to us. Last night we did discuss a couple of people whizzing to and from the accommodation in a taxi in the morning just after we get there- taxi can be subbed. The hall and the first place to dance are both about 20 mins walk from the station but it's probably about 40 mins from station-to hall-to dance spot. Thinking caps on if anyone else has any ideas.
I'm still waiting on the hall regarding having it as a venue for clogging on the 10th of September- as yet nothing is certain so we may have to delay it. Again I will let you know once I hear something, I think with them being on a break for the summer it's rather hard for them to find out anything for sure!
I'm assuming Ffion will be contacting everyone about the crawl next Thursday when she's back from Whitby. Those of you who are going I will see you next week :)
If have a spare minute remember to double check the sign-up sheet!

Hi all,
I'm not quite sure how this has happened but Laura and I realised last night that we've not got a reserve number 4 for York to cover Sinead. Becky can do 4, but that leaves us with no number 3 (assuming Lindsey can't make it). Kat, are you going to be at practice this Monday? Is your hand better? If so you could polish up 3 (you've been through the dance once, right?) which would give this option if Sinead's not well:
1) Katherine2) Laura or Janet3) Kat4) Becky5) Sue
Neither Laura nor Sue are going to be there next Monday, otherwise they could have learnt 4 to cover Sinead.
Can anyone think of any other solutions?
Ffion x

Hi all,
1-5 Just some updates on the hall info.6. General sign up reminders!
1. Recap of price being £10 per night per person with a deposit of £50 (which will be returned to us as long as the hall is undamaged and in good order)
2. It is about 20 minutes walk from the train station, and also 20 minutes walk from the first slot (sadly not really on the way to put our overnight stuff, but I am working on this!)
3. The mats they have are I think what would be used for dancing, so quite thick and sturdy but if people want to bring anything else to sleep on they might be more comfortable, currently waiting for confirmed number of these mats too.
4. They are absolutely fine with mixed gender sleeping there, so Katherine, Simon is fine to come along. Nikki is Ozzy coming along too? I do need to confirm numbers.
5. Lindsey or anyone else who may or may not be around you are fine to arrive on the night unconfirmed and we will give them an extra payment per person.
6. If you haven't looked at the sign up sheet recently, please do! In particular consider 11th September crawl with Black Heath Morris and 20th September One World Folk Festival.
I think that's all, sorry if I went somewhat silent. Turns out Cornwall is devoid of signal or wifi!
As always, any questions please get in touch.
Cheers,
Becky xx
Hi,
I am there from Sat to Tues may be stay on a bit as Chilts are doing their bit.
We are on the campsite so fingers crossed for decent weather.
It would be good if several of us will be there.
I am looking forward to going to one of Ffion's Gigs.

Hello,
Who's going to Whitby this year? If we have a team we could do a bit of a crawl like last year. Sue's there all week and I'm there Sat-Tues.

Hi,
I'm really sorry but I won't make it this week either. I've had a busy weekend and I won't be in any state to drag myself back up to London.

Hello all,
I won't be coming to practise tonight - I've pulled a muscle in my leg and don't want to exacerbate the problem! Sorry for that. See you all next week hopefully.
Laura x
ALSO.
Some of you already know about this event, but for those who don't!
My partner, Ted, and I are releasing our début E.P., The Charcoal Black and The Bonny Grey, on the 3rd September!!! To celebrate we're organising an E.P. Launch gig at Cecil Sharp House. We'll be playing the songs from the E.P., along with stuff from our wider repertoire, and we've also asked a few other bands to support, including:
THE FANTASTIC Foxglove Trio (Ffion's band)Caz Forbes and Ste Moncreiffand Stick in the Wheel.
Please do come along - your support means a lot to me. And tickets are at the bargain price of £4 (that's £1 per band! Damn that's cheap.) You can buy them on the door, but you can also buy them advance from http://www.musicglue.com/cecilsharphouse/
If you want to find out more, you can go to my website: http://lauraandted.co.uk/I'll also be making a facebook event soon, so please join our facebook page: www.facebook.com/LauraSmythTedKempOr feel free to just ask me!
I hope you all can make it!

To all those going to York!
Thank you to everyone who has confirmed, anyone who hasn't please do. I have contacted the hall for some final details and will hopefully be booking next week. If you haven't confirmed you won't get a spot, although I will contact people individually after the weekend so don't panic!
Regarding trains:
Saturday morning at 8.00 from Kings Cross gets us in at 9.50 which should be enough time to get to the first spot in the centre at 10.30, although I suggest people are ready in kit etc.
Going home, the last spot is at 1oclock and there is nothing to say how long that will go on for.
I'd say trains from 3 onwards, I was looking at the 15.52, getting in at 17.45 as this gets us plenty of time to dance, see others dance, gather any stuff together and get to the station.
Hope that all makes sense. I am now off again for the weekend in the middle of Cornwall so will be essentially uncontactable. I will be back for practice on Monday though so can answer questions then.
Committee members please forward any accommodation information that people would find useful if it comes in before Monday.
Cheers all!Becky
Hi guys,
Just to confirm we will not be dancing at the Puzzle Party. Sadly we just don't have the numbers!
Sorry Nikki that it's taken us so long-not sure if you'd said we won't be able to make it.
See you all on Monday.
York people please reply-so far had Katherine, Janet and Sinead confirm.
Cheers!
Becky x
Hi guys,
1.Thanks for jig practice2. Sign up reminders3. York accommodation
1. Firstly a huge thanks to Katherine and Simon for last night's jig session- needless to say it was excellent fun! By no means perfect but most people thought they could go away and practice it so it was doable on a day out. Watch this space for instructions from Katherine! There was a discussion of an extra practice should we come up to an event we wanted to do it at but this would NOT be at the same time as rapper-so nobody worry :)
2. For people who missed yesterday PLEASE look at the sign up sheet, in particular with reference to the Puzzle Party THIS FRIDAY and Black Heath Morris tour 11th September. I suspect it may now be too late to help Nikki out on Friday but if people can give a definite response at least we know for sure.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
3. York accommodation was discussed and due to prices the majority were happy with the church hall for the Saturday night, at £10 per person it is by far the cheapest. And everyone seemed to want to arrive on the Saturday morning rather than the Friday night so we only miss one shower opportunity!Anybody who is wanting to have a place booked please let me know ASAP as I am wanting to book soon. I know some people want to bring partners etc. so please include those numbers, if you don't tell me then they won't be booked in.
I am going to be finding out: a. how many futons are there to sleep onb. If mixed gender is allowedc. If there is a time that we have to have left the hall by on Sunday
Has anyone got anything else they would like to know?
The train I think is best is the 8am from London Kings Cross getting into York at 9.50 so that we are ready to join the parade in the city centre by 10.30.Again, thoughts please do message me.
I am also checking that there is somewhere to leave our belongings on the Saturday as we dance- any other queries pass them onto me and I will endeavor to have them answered.
Cheers me dears,
Becky
Speedy reminder to everyone that we are having a one off jig practice tonight, so no rapper!
Recommended footwear is soft shoes i.e. Sneakers etc and not rapper shoes.
See you there!

Hi All
Tomorrow's crawl is still going ahead, thanks to Janet who went out and secured the pubs.
Let's meet in the White Swan 114 Vauxhall Bridge Rd at 7pm, ready to start the 1st dance no later than 7.30pm:
http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/white-swan-victoria/c0066/?utm_source=g_…
Nearest station is Pimlico on the Victoria Line, but Victoria & Vauxhall aren't far either.
We have a reduced route of 4 or 5 pubs, which feels about right as we have a reduced team of:
Laura (quaver ravening), Jo (1), Janet (2), Becky (3), Hannorah/Sinead (4/Tommy), Katherine (5).
Lyndsey and Rachel - you're down as maybes - so let me know if you think you might make it either to dance or just come for the craic, so we know to wait for you.
Anyone else who fancies coming please do - the more the merrier.
As this is a relaxed crawl wear whatever denier tight you feel most comfortable in.
See you then
