1. Info regarding York. Trains and accommodation.2. Sign up reminders3. Gift for Ru4. Reminder re. Jig Practice
1. Right I have tried to assemble as much information as possible regarding York although it is a work in progress.
Please find attached the weekends itinerary- We have to be ready to be in a parade at half ten around the city centre and then should have finished I'm guessing around 3 on the Sunday. Trains take about two hours, so that gives you an idea regarding leaving times.
If anyone has any idea of train offers please do shout out at the moment prices are approximately £60 travelling early Saturday and back Sunday, or more like £90 travelling Friday night and back on Sunday. This is without railcards etc. We will be subsidising the travel, we just need to confirm exactly how much we can do this by- please don't let the cost put you off-we do crawls for a reason!
We have been given information regarding a hall that we could stay in which is about ten minutes walk from the centre. There are futon type mattresses to sleep on and a small kitchen where we could make teas coffees and light meals, although no actual cooking. We would also be able to lock our possessions securely away while we're out for the day. There are toilets with sinks but no showers- major downside! And we have to be out by 9 on the Saturday morning, although that could easily be a time for breakfast and making our way to the parade.BUT it only costs £10 per person per night, plus a £50 deposit, I can't really see us getting much cheaper than that.
If people don't like the idea of this I also have some information regarding youth hostels which I will research price wise etc. Any other opinions please let me know and I can gather more information.
2. Reminder to please sign up to new events including most urgently the Puzzle Party on the 8th of August- most people haven't replied so we can't give a firm response!https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmF…
Similarly we have been invited to Blackheath Morris Tour on the 11th September. I am aware this is smack bang in the middle of events but if there is anyone not doing the days away this would be a nice opportunity to dance out.
3. Regarding the clog workshop, Ru said no to a cash payment but we'd like to get her a gift to say thank you. As Ken is working with Ru's husband, Jon, I have them doing some investigating! So far we have found out that Pralines are always a good bet, but Jon is going to have a look at her amazon wish list and see if anything else seems suitable. We did have a suggestion of sheet music, although it's trying to guess what she's like. All other suggestions welcome!
4. This coming Monday is a one off jig practice to be a good filler on days of dance. If you are interested please come along wearing some sort of plimsolls rather than rapper shoes. If not we'll see you the next week for business as usual :)
I will try and send more information regarding York prices later this week.
Becky x
Hello all- specifically musicians.
Thrales have asked me to send out an appeal for musicians available this Friday to play for their tour. They think it will be in the Hammersmith area.
Please let me know asap if you are available and would like to go along.
Thanks,
Becky
I am very sorry guys. I've been off ill today - and have only just woken
up...
I had hoped to be better by this evening, but this will probably not the
case :-(
Fffion, Nikki, Sue and myself won't be there, but no-one else has yet said
they won't be there.
The plan was to go over a couple of the new moves for the new dance. These
are:
1) Windmills into single tumble
2) Windmills into double tumble
3) Choker and star breastplate
4) Fountains-dambusters -
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4i_Mu2reqtgVjhjelplUlQ0WWc/edit?usp=shari…
5) Tits/follower
If there are people there that don't know the whole of the Jubilee Dance -
teach them a couple of new figures.
If it makes more sense to do Jigs tonight - and then go for it.
Sorry again guys,
Lindsey
Just a quick reminder that I can't be at practice tonight, nor Thursday's crawl, nor next Monday.
Really sorry. Enjoy!
NB We have been invited to join Blackheath Morris on a tour of Herne Hill on 11th September (short train ride from Victoria, Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon, St Pancras etc on First Capital Direct). Over to Becky.....
S x
Hi all,
Another good practice last night - our two newbies danced the first few figures at dance speed and we created another one, or possibly two, figures for the new dance.
Just a quick reminder that I won't be here for the next couple of weeks. Next week Lindsey will be teaching, mostly working on getting the funky new figures danced in time and at speed. The video of the breastplate figure is attached should you want to practise in your heads in advance! The following week it's jigs with Katherine and Kat :-)
Have a fun few weeks!
Ffion x
I think Becky is away until the end of the week, so I'm forwarding this on.
It looks like there is an indoor camping venue which would be possibly just
tower ravens. Other options are listed.

Hi to everyone and most importantly Becky as she knows some details of the event.
It is getting to the time I feel when we need to book things up. I am going by train from London and would like to book the same as others so which would be the best to go for? I hope Becky may have some idea over this.
As to where we stay. I think there is indoor camping but I am not sure how keen I am over this option. Is anyone else heading for a Bed and Breakfast? Where would the best place be? This would partly depend on where we meet for dancing.
Looking forward to hearing from people,
Janet x
Hello all.
I'm afraid I'm not here tomorrow but will see you all the Monday after- please do discuss anything I say here and if Ffion could e-mail me with anything I need to know that'd be great.
Firstly: I've added the Puzzle Party that Nikki mentioned to us some time ago to the sign up sheet.
8th August 2014 - Puzzle Party - Near HeathrowHosted by a close friend of Nikki’s this event is happening just outside of Heathrow. There is some discussion of a performance or a small workshop - I think it’s up to us. This would be a paid gig so if we do have a team it’d be great for the money box!
Please fill this in, I know a number of us can't make it but if we did have a team I think it'd be great to do.
Secondly: We have also been invited to the One World Folk Festival in Lordship rec -Tottenham on the 20th September. It must be noted that we were invited in a some what badly edited email which had initially been sent to Thrales, BUT it's a paid gig and second choice ain't bad. Please sign up to this too!
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
I have been presuming that we are not bothering with the Golden Star Morris weekend away which is the same weekend as Rockingham's birthday. It has been pretty much ignored on the sign up sheet due to the other choices, should anyone feel opposed to me declining the invitation please get in touch.
JIGS:
I know there have been various emails about optional dances and music for the jig practice. To confirm this is happening on the 4th of August as Ffion is away! FYI re. morris music-does is ever sound exciting?
Jo - are you getting in touch with Ru re. clog practice? The poll suggested 20th of August or 10th September as the most people available. Also, do we need music?
Think that's all for this week folks, have a good practice tomorrow.
Becky
Me neither - I'm travelling back from visiting family. Sorry!
Laura

Hello!
Thanks to everyone who came to the gig last night. It was really nice to see you all there and fun to do a dance. I think the audience enjoyed it too!
I've been looking over our bookings for the rest of the summer and have come up with the following potential plan of action.
The plan
14 July
Jubilee alternative positions: 1) Jo and Katherine 2) Hannorah, 3) Kat B 4) Becky 5) new Katherine
Jubilee: working on the lock if there's no tumble
Polish Beadnell with people who've missed practices/who want to do more Beadnell practice.
21 July
Polish Jubilee alternative positions: 1) Jo and Katherine 2) Hannorah, 3) Kat B 4) Becky 5) new Katherine including tumble practice for Kat.
Practice dancing in small spaces and strange surfaces (outside) especially for those on next crawl: 1) Rachel, Katherine 2) Laura, Janet 3) Becky, Lindsey 4) Hannorah, Sinead 5) Kat
28 July
I will be on holiday. Anyone want to take on teaching duties?
4 August
I'll be on a different holiday! Volunteers?
11 August
Bit of Jubilee, bit of Beadnell, start looking at new dance again?
Beadnell - teach Katherine 1 and Becky 4
18 August
Sorry, I'll be on yet another holiday!
25 August
bank holiday = no practice
1 Sept
Jubilee reminder with York people: 1) Katherine 2) Laura 3) Kat B, 4) Becky, Sinead, 5) Sue
Beadnell reminder with York people: 1) Katherine 2) Laura 3) Kat B, 4) Becky, Sinead, 5) Sue
Working on new dance - remembering the figures we invented
8 Sept
Jubilee reminder with Peterborough people: 1) Ffion, Katherine 2) Janet, 3) Becky, Lindsey 4) Hannorah, 5) Sue, Kat B including getting both Lindsey and Becky to tumble off Katherine & Sue and Katherine & Ffion.
Beadnell reminder with Peterborough people: 1) Ffion, Lindsey 2) Janet, Katherine 3) Becky, Kat B 4) Hannorah, 5) Sue
Working on new dance - knitting invented figures together into proto-dance
15 Sept
Dancing proto-dance and making necessary adjustments.
22 Sept
Jubilee reminder with crawl people: 1) Rachel, Katherine, Ffion 2) Laura, Janet, 3) Becky, Lindsey, 4) Sinead, Hannorah 5) Sue, Kat B
Tightening up new dance
29 Sept
Jubilee reminder with Tenterden people: 1) Rachel, 2) Laura 3)Ffion? 4) Sinead, Hannorah, 5) Katherine
Beadnell reminder with Tenterden people: 1) Ffion, 2) Laura, 3) Rachel, 4) hannorah, Sinead 5) Katherine
Procession reminder with Tenterden people
Perfecting (!) new dance
New dance
As you've probably guessed from the above, I'd like to aim to get the new dance out at Tenterden. It's quite a tall order as we've still got a lot to do on it. I feel the most efficient way of writing and learning the dance would be to concentrate on having 5 people who will be at Tenterden learn it first and then they can teach everyone else how to do it in October. I'm aware this isn't very egalitarian so if you feel strongly that we should teach the dance to everyone who turns up each week let me know. If a lot of people feel this way I think we'd have to shift the target dance out date to the October crawl or even Thrales day. Thrales day has to be the ultimate deadline or else we'll have to do Beadnell as our second dance!! If we are going to focus on 5 dancers getting the new dance right first, that mean those five need to be able to commit to all of the practices in September. It also means we need the right numbers. At the moment we have 6 dancers signed up for Tenterden (not in the positions I hoped for!) and lots of maybes. So... if you're in a position to upgrade from a maybe to a yes please do so! https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
As always, if your name's on the list for a particular day, please let me know asap if you know you won't be there. Equally, if your name's not on the list please still turn up!
Thanks,
Ffion x

Hello Everyone!
I am off to Ely festival tomorrow night so will be sans internet access so sending a quick reminder now about things to do before Monday's practice.
1- There is a meeting in the church on Monday- it should be over by half seven but we must make an effort not to just barge in!
2- Could the people who are maybes for York check the signup sheet to say whether they will be yes or no. We have a team plus extras, but not for every position so to avoid being shattered anyone that can say yes for definite would make me feel better about confirming!
The maybe people are Lindsey, Janet, Nic and Ffion. There are also some no replies although I think they're out of the country or haven't been with us long!
Please remember we are NOT going to be dancing at Faversham in order for as many people as possible to be able to make it to York :)
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
3- Pimlico crawl 31st July : This was meant to be my crawl but then I tried to organise Whitechapel last month so I don't really fancy doing all the traipsing around again quite so soon. Janet is meant to be helping-is there anyone else that can do this???
4- Lots of responses to the doodle poll which is great. If you haven't responded and are interested please fill it in so we can include the maximum number of people.

Cheers me dears

Hello Ravens
Hope you're enjoying the lovely weather and the sporty weekend.
I have got the following people tickets for tomorrow night at the Green Note:
Joanna
Hannaroh
Sinead plus 1
Nikki
Ozzy
Becky
Me
Catherine
Sue and Lindsey may join us but will get a ticket on the door.
Tickets were £8. Happy to have the cash on the night / next practice or online transfer.
There were a few of us who would like to eat first so I suggest meeting outside the Green note at 5.45pm and then head somewhere to eat... There are loads of places on the parkway near to the Green note and no need to book on a Monday night. We will then head to the green note for 7.15 to get tickets / seats. Music starts 8pm. Can you let me know who is meeting earlier for dinner so I know to expect you. If you can't get to the gig for 7.15 no worries, just give me a call when you arrive and I'll come and meet you with your ticket.
!! Don't forget to bring kit in case you're needed to dance at the Green note!!
Any questions get in touch.
See you tomorrow

Hey guys,
1. Just a quick reminder to say there is NO practice on Monday but some of us are going to see Ffion and Laura play at the Green Note gig (on the sign-up sheet) which I believe Nick has sorted tickets to.
2. Also PLEASE, if you haven't already, could you respond to the poll re. clogging. I should emphasise for those who haven't been at practice for recent discussions that this is not some weird drift into being a rapper and clog side. We are a rapper side but for whole days of dancing where you have to entertain the same people for hours we want some variety. We have people who can clog so we're hoping to build on that so that they/anyone else who manages to pick up the skills can fill a slot. I have added to the poll a 'not interested' vote-so even if you would rather die than clog you can still respond at the link below:
http://doodle.com/kgdmr68yuxu5cz5w
3. I have confirmed with Rockingham that we will be going to Peterborough for their day of dance on the 13th of September. We've got a good mix of people going but again, if you haven't signed up please do!
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
4. During business last week we decided that due to Rockingham, York Festival of Traditional Dance, and Faversham Festival weekends being consecutive we should choose two to go to. The conclusion seemed to be Rockingham because it's close, we're forming pretty good relations with them, and it's only a day in Peterborough and York because it is the opposite! We thought a weekend away as a team for an event focussed on dancing, including rapper, rather than a lot of the events we've done recently, would do us good. We have a side but for a weekend it would be nice to have confirmations from people. If we can confirm ASAP we can organise travel which the team decided will be subsidised in some way, so don't let that put you off. If you are unsure due to price please contact me or ideally Jo and we will start figuring the numbers. York is 6th to 7th September.
For those coming on Monday remember to bring kit as touch wood we can fit in the space to do a little intermission entertainment!
Cheers me dears,
Becky

Dear Dancers
Thank you for all so much for coming to the festival and helping to make it
another spectacular Festival Sunday. The procession was fantastic and
without doubt the most noisey and colourful for many years! I have had so
many lovely comments on how fabulous you all looked processing down the
High Street. Extra special thanks to the sides at Foundry Car Park for the
afternoon session, for dancing through the shower and carrying on (unlike
the Belton Bridge gang who escaped at the first sign of drizzle!!!!).
I have attached a note of thanks from our Artistic Director, Paul Collier
but the sentiment comes from all of us on the committee.
Thank you all again and of course I will be in touch in the Autumn to get
the ball rolling for next year.
Best regards
Claire

Hi all,
I've heard from Graham at Green Note. He says the space is pretty small (which you'll know if you've been there) but he's very keen for us to try and do a dance. I'm pretty sure we've got the right numbers for a team, especially as Laura and I will already be there.
Ffion x
Please take a look at my blog on Welsh folk songs - caneuongwerin.wordpress.com
Hi guys,
A little while ago we decided it'd be nice to learn/further any additional skills that the team has in order to increase the variety of dances we can show at days of dance where we have to entertain the same people all day. Due to the high number of cloggers/ people like me that have attempted it a few times we decided to give clogging a go.
Jo has asked Ru about this who is happy to come and teach us but it looks like being on a Wednesday night.
Please vote in the poll through the link below to say which Wednesday you would prefer.
http://doodle.com/kgdmr68yuxu5cz5w
This does depend on the church being free and Ru being free so it might take a bit of organising but if you guys give me your best dates it'll narrow it down.
Sorry in advance this is my first poll so it might be nonsense.
Cheers,
Becky
P.S. there have also been rumours of learning jigs for those of us who have done Cotswold-any thoughts?
Hi Hannorah... How was Glasto? Was very jealous!
We decided last night not to do a mini crawl first as not quite a full team and also would be a bit of a rush. We may be doing one dance at the Green note...
More details to follow

Hi all,
Hope those who went had a fun day at Leigh. I hope you ate ice creams despite the rain.
Here's the slightly rejigged plan for tomorrow:
Polishing Beadnell with priority to those who've missed one/both of the last 2 weeks: 2) Laura 3) Kat 5) Josie
Jubilee from alternative positions: 1) Jo and Katherine, 4) Becky. We might have a new member, also called Katherine, so this would be a good chance to teach her some figures.
Jubilee for mini-crawl: whoever signs up to come on the crawl!
Tomorrow we're also electing a new secretary. If you'd like to stand but can't make it tomorrow, please let me know. For anyone who's considering it, the role of secretary is to communicate with external people and with the team. Mostly it involves getting booking requests, putting them on the sign up sheet, chasing team members to sign up, telling the people who've invited us to dance that we can/can't attend their event, then telling the team where they need to be when. Occasionally you'll also need to email the church, potential new members or other teams. Rachel/Nikki might want to add something to that description!
We'll need to decide tomorrow whether or not we're doing a mini-crawl the following week. So far we have two 4s and no one else so please sign up! https://docs.google.com/document/m?id=11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCe…
See you soon,
Ffion x
