Hi guys,
This Friday is Burns Night ceilidh - I think you have all the info from Hannah but just wanted to flag positions etc. as I won't be there on the night.
We're going to do one full spot going Jubilee, Clog, Westerhope (please figure out a plan of passing swords between people before you perform - ideally Sue will pass lock to a none clog dancer pre- clog (Fliss!?). And then they will have them ready to hand out for Westerhope.
Jubilee:
1 Emma H
2 Emma R
3 Hannah
4 Miriam
5 Fliss
Clog:
Emma H, Tori and Hannah N (old clog not new). Sue, remember it's a clog dance from the North East of England, known as Sunderland.
Westerhope:
1 Emma H
2 Flo
3 Hannah N
4 Tori
5 Miriam
6 Fliss
Please remember to go on and off smartly, it's an important part of the performance and one of the things we normally do really well!
Obviously, happy for you to swap numbers if makes more sense on the night but this is my attempt to keep it fair (sorry to Emma H, and Hannah in particular!).
Have a wonderful evening and sorry I won't be there. Tori, if you want money for another raffle prize let me know!
Becky xx
Hi All,
Here's your shiny update for the week.
1. Burns Night
2. Day practice dates
3. DERT - spare train ticket anyone?
4. Sign-ups
*1. Burns Night *Ceilidh on Friday in the London Welsh Centre. Please be
there ready to dance by 2030 at the latest - our spot will be at 9 and we
don't really have many spare dancers... Raffle and coin rolling in the 10pm
break. Thank you to the door volunteers (Miriam, Hannorah and Sue - I'll
probably help out too so we can share it between us) - if you could be
there at 1915 as doors are at 1930. If anyone fancies helping out with
decorating, feel free to come early as well.
*2. Day practice dates *have changed. Piccadilly will now be on 2nd Feb
(not 8th) in 33 Oval Road, NW1 7EA. Westerhope will now be on 8th Feb (not
15th) in the usual hall.
*3. DERT *- We have a *spare ticket on the 1803 to DERT* if anyone wants it
and hasn't booked - need to have either 16-25 or 26-30 railcard. Let me
know if you want it! Trains home still can't be booked, but am keeping my
eyes peeled...
There is a spare ticket for evening, but think Jo wants this. However
evening tickets should be released soon should anyone want to bring someone
that they haven't previously mentioned.
*4. Sign-ups* After Friday we have nothing in our calendars. it would be a
real shame to get to the end of the year and to have not really done much
beyond crawls. However, we can't go to anything unless you sign up to
things. I know it is a quieter year having done basically all the major
festivals over the last two years, but there are still things that would be
fun to do. So pleas actually fill in the sign up sheet.
The things I think we would probably enjoy most as a team (and there are
probably others) on there are the following.
- 27th June St Albans Folk Festival - dancing in the pubs and potentially
joining the mass dance if we want to. About 20min fast train from St Pancras
- 10th-12th July Priddy Folk Festival - daytime dance spots, Saturday night
ceilidh spot. Priddy is south of Bristol in the Mendips - about 4hrs away
by public transport. Sounds like a nice festival. (Gus from Northgate
invited us)
- 5th September London Folk Festival in C# House, probably day time.
In other news confirming the St Patricks day stuff is pretty much up to us
on timings and how much dancing we do, so we could investigate lining this
up with either a bit of a crawl or visiting some of the greeneking pubs
that the guy on the crawl invited us to as well. Though i would rather get
a feel for what people would do before organising a whole load of stuff.
More info next week.
Richie's family (Fliss) have invited us to Thriplow Daffodil Festival 28/29
March (Gogs and Cambridge Morris Men usually go), this is the weekend
before DERT in case anyone was wondering. The nearest train station is
Foxton from where we might be able to organise some lifts. There are some
indoor places we can dance or join in with the Morris teams outdoors. Could
just do a day.
Thanks,
Hannah

Hi guys,
Absences: As far as I can remember this is just Rachel? Anyone else let me know.
7-7.30 First 15 mins old clog, last 15 min new clog. Making sure we're happy for either on burns night.
7.30-8.30 This time will be spent prepping for burns night and generally continuing on with dancing.
I'd like to spend some time with alternative dilly set, in this case: 1 Fliss, 2 HTD, 3 Laura, 4 Tori (unless you hate the idea!) 5 Rachel-Anne
Then the second half will be spent split into dilly/westerz sets.
Fliss can you access notation on g drive or do you want this sending?
Thanks,
Becky
Hello,
Westerhope needs to reschedule and we're hoping we can swap westerhope to the 8th Feb and Piccadilly to the 2nd Feb.
Particular for westerhope side, please confirm asap. Also, as we might not be able to get the hall on the 2nd, if anyone has hall suggestions? Fliss I know you mentioned your office. If there was a way of checking that just in case it would be useful.
You can just reply to me rather than everyone!
Thanks,
Becky

Hi All,
Quick update for the week:
1. Crawl
2. Whittlesea
3. Sign-ups
4. AOB
*1. Crawl Thursday in Clapham. * Meeting at The Clapham North (opposite
tube station of same name), we have a table booked from 7pm under Rachel.
Please be there by 1915 in kit and ready to go so we can start at 1930. If
possible would Ellie/Katherine be willing to lend petticoats afterwards for
the weekend (I can take care of them)?
*2. Whittlesea Straw Bear on Saturday*. Please be there by 10 latest. Car
drivers please let your passengers know what time to meet you (and if
necessary provide an address). Groupings as emailed last week (Clare and I
may swap) - if you aren't sure where you should be, ping me a message.
The Manor Leisure centre opens at 0930 for wrist band / map / schedule
collection. Becky is hoping to be able to collect this for all of us, and
if successful we can meet at the first spot of the day which is at Queen St
Methodist URC / Homme Nouveau. We have a scheduled lunch break of about 40
mins. Dancing should finish around 1445 (I think) and the straw bears will
be dancing at 1530 if you wish to see them.
We'll work out who is going in who's car or whatever once there based on
how people feel - but there is enough car space around.
Forecast looks a bit chilly, so be prepared for staying warm outside (as
well as having to pile it all of in the pub!). We'll try and dance at each
of our official spots where possible, and otherwise hit the pubs. They are
generally pretty happy for us to do our own thing. Watch out for the straw
bears and straw and bear themed things around the town!
*3. Sign-ups* - Please focus on the following two events n particular:
- Priddy Folk Festival 11-12 July, dance spots during the day, ceilidh spot
on the Saturday night. The invite cam through from Gus in Northgate. More
info about the festival itself here: http://www.priddyfolk.org/
- London Folk Festival 5 September at Cecil Sharp House. I anticipate this
being a day time thing as I don't think we have a musician available for
the evening.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
*4. AOB*
- Party at 48 Mountain House, SE11 5NW for any that will to celebrate
Clare's birthday. 1930 ish onwards. If it helps with Saturday transport,
you are more than welcome to stay over.
See you soon!
Hannah
Hello all,
As promised last night I’ve made the world’s simplest spreadsheet for the Burns Night raffle. If you are able to donate a prize please stick it in the spreadsheet. Hopefully can inspire some interest beforehand if we can let people know there will be fabulous prizes!
Spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1d8tAeYKowJUs99Qp_KHsUUB0ndjyYzpVOu-…
Thanks!
Tori
This is not philosophical, we all need them. In fact, I know a fair few of us need them!
Can someone else check out this link and see if they look good to them?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Scimitar-Capped-Oxford-Cadet-Shoes/dp/B00Q7SMU0C?t…
People I'm vaguely aware of:
Becky
Emma H
Hannah TD
Katherine
I'll ask at practice, but if you need shoes and won't be there tonight please email to let me know, I'm thinking we could buy a batch in one go?
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Absences: I think just Jo? Clare, assume even if you're coming you wouldn't be dancing. Hannah TD can you send me the dates you won't be here?
Anyone else, just let me know.
7-7.30 Start with old clog, followed by new. We should have more people this week to take up old!
7.30-8.30 Prepping for straw bear and any other learning. This includes Emma at 1 in Westerz and Miriam at 5 in Jubilee, as well as me at 4 in Dilly. Anything else, please let me know!
8.30-9.30 we will move to dilly and westerz sets with myself and Fliss leading.
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
As pointed out by Will, there are some engineering works making travel to
Whittlesea a bit more of a pain than it should be...
So options:
1. 0712 train to Whittlesea
2. Indoor camping at Sir Harry Smith School, PE7 1XB costs £7.50 pppn and
we need to let them know ASAP.
3. Drive - if we have enough people able to offer lifts from either London
or some train station in that direction.
Martin will be driving so can take 4 people. Are there others that will be
or could drive? And if you are able to offer a lift, where would it be
from? There are currently 14 yeses, though I know Becky will already be
there.
*Please let me know any preferences on the 3 options above and whether you
can offer lifts. We can do a combo of them depending on what people
want/are able to offer.*
*Also if you are a maybe can you pick Yes / No please as I need to sort
ticket numbers (as well as the above logistics...)*
Trains home at 1558 and 1727/1758 are the best options for trains home
unless lift sharing.
Our first dance spot is at 1045, but we need to be there in good time
before that - parking is a bit of a mare. We also need to collect our
wristbands from the Manor Leisure Centre. Last spot finishes at 1445. I
don't think we're in the final spot, but the Bears Dance at 1530 which is
probably worth watching, though if we need to head for trains/cars then I
guess we are dictated by that. In the evening there is a ceilidh Saturday
night if anyone wants to go to it, you can get tickets on the Strawbear
website.
In terms of parking there is a free park and ride from the Sir Harry Smith
School to near the Manor on Saturday. May be others, but not too familiar
with the area!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
Bit later than usual with the old business email.
1. Kit
2. Sign-ups
3. Burns Night
4. AOB
Hopefully you've seen the email about Whittlesea / Strawbear logistics, any
Q's let me know and I'll send the final version and more details about the
day next week.
Thanks for all the responses on trains for DERT, we are mostly there now
for getting there and tickets home should be out soon.
1. Kit - If you borrowed something before Christmas please return it. If
you are able to lend any kit to Emma S please bring it along on Monday (or
Thursday if you are dancing on the crawl). If anyone else is missing kit
please shout asap - I suspect we might be down two petticoats (Hannorah and
Clare) and one full set (Emma S) for next weekend. I have two skirts and
the manky sash which I'll bring on Monday to see if any of that can be used.
2. As you know the Burns Night Ceilidh on 24th January has sold out and so
there is profit, which is going towards the DART fund. So if you are going
to DART (or even if you aren't and would like to) we need a couple of
volunteers to do the doors and someone to organise the raffle. I'm happy to
sort the coin rolling unless anyone is desperate to (I may need a reminder
on the rules!) Email me or Martin if you are able to help with any of these
things.
3. Sign ups. In terms of Summer events, I think the two that we should
focus attention on are (though obviously please do fill out anything and
everything on there):
- Priddy Folk Festival 11-12 July, dance spots during the day, ceilidh spot
on the Saturday night. The invite cam through from Gus in Northgate. More
info about the festival itself here: http://www.priddyfolk.org/
- London Folk Festival 5 September at Cecil Sharp House. I anticipate this
being a day time thing as I don't think we have a musician available for
the evening.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
4. AOB
- We made and amazing £740 on the Christmas crawl! (In case anyone missed
that)
- Friday (10th) - Mari Llywd. Ffion and Martin are organising / running and
will be doing the twmpath (ceilidh) at the Welsh centre after
- Saturday (11th) Becky's (30th) birthday party in the Hercules just
opposite Lambeth station from 7
- Next Friday 17th - Clare's birthday party at our flat in Vauxhall. All
welcome, there will be some food and booze, more details to come. And
anyone welcome to stay over if that helps with getting to Strawbear
See you soon!
Hannah
Hello all,
Absences: Clare, Flo, Hannorah, Rachel-Anne, Emma S, Tori, Fliss
Rachel if you could remind me where we are with you and Dan?
Laura, I know you are aiming to come back baby-allowing, message we with any thoughts!
Thanks for everyone who has been in touch, if there is anyone else please let me know!
Now we are in the new year and can contemplate the next few months, can you please let me know if there are any Monday's you will miss pre-DERT?
7-7.30 Clog: Recap of old clog for first 15 mins and then recap of new clog for last 15. It would be useful to have both of these dance-able for straw bear. Might be useful if we need a speedy outside number but don't want hands to fall off!
7.30-9.30
1.Go over straw bear numbers and generally wipe away the cobwebs. I know there are various people not there tonight who are then at straw bear so we'll do the process again next week.
2. First piccadilly crawl is next week. For this to be worth it we need some time to practice both weeks. This week, we might not have a second set due to absences, so if we push that to the second half people can go home if we don't have a full set and they don't simply want to watch rapper. Having said that, it is super-helpful to have at least one person watching so we know what is right or wrong (we often make Sue do it!).
Thanks,
Becky
Hi All,
There are cheap trains already available for the Friday night, Sunday still
not out but should be very soon. We're in the process of snapping up early
evening tickets for those that want them, if you haven't yet shouted and
would like to take that train please let us know and we'll add you on.
There is an afternoon train which is super cheap at £9.25 with railcard at
1406 arriving 1601 - so if you want to travel in the afternoon then that's
a good option.
There are later evening trains, but they aren't as cheap, to answer Fliss'
Q.
*So, if you can let me know what train you would like to take, and your
railcard if you have one - please fill in the joyful spreadsheet here*:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14dVIjC84A5GZKa3ngXuRlyJlIiy_vnUrKPF…
I'm happy to sort bookings for anyone that fills in the spreadsheet (1803
and 1406 are the ones that make most sense for us to sort), though if you
would prefer to sort yourself then that's fine too. Clare and Ffion I have
assumed you'll sort yourselves as you're not coming from London - hope
that's ok!
Tickets for the Sunday aren't yet available, but we'll just book everyone
on the same train, probably at around 1pm - gives plenty of time for a lazy
brunch (or participating in the workshop) and for a couple of us to go to
the DERT Reps meeting. If you have any specific requirements on this let me
know ☺
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi all,
I know I have some of you on Facebook but wanted to extend an open invite to my birthday celebration on the 11th January (next Saturday).
I am now 30! Bah. Please come and celebrate the fact in the Hercules, just opposite Lambeth station from 7. The kitchens are open until 10 and you can order food there if you want.
Loved ones welcome 😊
Hope to see you then, ravens I'll see you on Monday!

Hi All,
Awesome effort the other day with the crawl, looking forward to hearing how
much we raised!
I've now added all the 2020 crawls and the DERT day practices (should be in
the practice hall, just confirming this)to the sign up sheet. I've filled
in what I can based on the doodle polls for the pre-DERT stuff, but please
do check...
I am expecting the various things that we haven't confirmed or denied to
chase us in the new year, so please do take a look over the sign-up sheet
and update yourselves ready for this. The more we can get sorted online the
less time I'll need to take up of dancing time ☺ If you need anymore info,
let me know - I can always provide a reminder summary sometime (just
avoiding spamming you all now!)
We've had a couple of new invites in the last week:
- Firstly we have been invited to the London Folk Festival on 5th September
in C# House, no timings, but when we've been we've done a few spots in
between things/danced in the bar and then just been able to enjoy the rest
of the festival.
- I am going to turn down Wimborne Minster based on the feedback from
Thrales when they went this year.
- Great Western Morris have also invited us to their 50th Birthday
celebration weekend, however it is the same weekend as Priddy which came in
first, so if we have a team I think we should do Priddy. (Seems to be a
super popular weekend for events!)
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Hope you all enjoy the festive season and see you on 6th Jan
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello everyone,
Massive thanks to everyone who made it out last night, good dancing, good pace, good collecting!
Dates for the diary for next year (sorry I've been slow)
Piccadilly practices: Saturday 8th Feb and Saturday 14th March Will I know you can't make the latter, but assume music won't change much from last year?
Westerhope practice: Saturday 15th Feb This makes it three days in a row for Martin -is this ok?
Please get these in the diary, hopefully no-one's availability has changed.
If I don't speak to you again, have a lovely Christmas! Thanks for all of your hard work this year 🙂
Becky xx
Hiya,
Tomorrow we'll be starting at The Phoenix and there's a table booked for
7pm. It's right behind Denmark Hill station. The pubs after that are -
George Canning
Grove House
The Crooked Well
The Camberwell Arms
Stormbird
(Hermit's Cave - maybe)
(The Tiger - maybe)
The Old Dispensary
(Nags Head - they said yes, but that it would be dead - might not be worth
our while and not a great pub to finish at.)
There are a few pubs with one staff member and huge queues, so a
kitty/drinks buddy would make sense. I'll put all this into a WhatsApp too.
And I'll make a Facebook event, if it hasn't been done already?
That's it! Be there and ready for 7.15 at the latest please! See you
tomorrow.
R-a x
Hi All,
Just to double check everything before I hit submit on the registration
info, could you take a look at the below and if anything is incorrect let
me know by the end of tomorrow.
The following all have a bed booked in the hotel: Becky, Clare, Ellie L,
Ellie W (+1), Emma H, Emma R, Emma S, Ffion, Fliss, Flo (+1), Hannah N,
Hannah TD, Hannorah, Katherine, Martin, Miriam, Rachel (includes hotel for
all the fam) Rachel-Anne, Sue, Tori, Will
And Laura & Paul (no hotel, plus 2 guests).
A record 27 tickets! (There is only one spare bed now.)
Little reminder while I'm here about the day practice doodle here as well:

Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
Absences: Katherine and Clare, maybe Ellie. Anyone else?
So atm, we won't be able to clog at 7 as I can't get there until gone 7.30 and Ellie isn't sure she'll be there at all. Me and my Mum are having dinner at Harry's bar http://harrys.co.uk/abchurch/ meeting at 5.45. If someone was able to collect the keys (bit weird I know) you could then go ahead and start at 7. Can someone confirm if they're able to do this? It's between monument and cannon street, so not far!
If no-one can do this I will get to the hall for as close to 7.30 as I can - I imagine the choir are performing tonight, so if anyone can get there before 6.50ish, I imagine you might be able to get in via them??
Sorry that's a rubbish start! Just a reminder that the idea is to do half a practice followed by some drinks in the pub. If we're hideously delayed starting we'll go on a bit longer before partying!
These are the dancers I have for Thursday: Emma, Rachel, katherine, Miriam, Rachel-Anne, Hannah N, Emma S, Ellie L, Flo
Can the maybe's confirm if they are coming? Sue, Laura, Tori and Hannorah??
Can you please look at the below numbers and check you're happy pre-practice. Anything you want to run over let me know at the start of practice. Anything I've missed or made up, let me know:
Numbers:
Jubilee:
1 Emma/ Rachel/ Katherine/ Becky
2 Rachel-Anne/ Hannah N
3 Hannah N/ Ellie L (are you happy to dance out, do you have kit!?)/ Becky
4 Emma/ Katherine/ Miriam/ Emma S
5 Emma/ Rachel/ Katherine/ Rachel-Anne/ Flo
Westerhope:
1 Emma/ Rachel/ Katherine/ Becky
2 Rachel-Anne/ Hannah N/ Flo
3 Hannah N/ Becky
4 Emma/
5 Emma/ Rachel/ Katherine/ Miriam/ Rachel-Anne
6 Rachel/ Katherine/ Miriam/ Rachel-Anne??
Piccadilly:
1 Emma
2 Hannah N
3 Becky
4 Rachel/ Katherine
5 Rachel-Anne/Katherine
Hi guys,
After a long day who doesn't want a DERT announcement?
This year has taken a lot of deliberation, with more and more people joining the team and getting better and better it was really hard to choose. In the end I've played it very safe and would like to stick with last years set but bringing in Ellie W at 4. I've gone for the people who are the most confident at Piccadilly itself and also stepping, as well as the fact they're available.
Westerhope I am still defining but should have it sorted asap - various people said they were or weren't bothered about dancing at DERT so obviously I will prioritise those who were keen. Hopefully you have an idea who you are and I'm sorry it's taking so long.
DIARY TIME Here are the crawl dates which I think work for most people. I've done a mix of separate and together but hopefully this works:
Piccadilly:
16th and 30th Jan, 12th Feb and 27th Feb i.e. combined, 13th March i.e. combined and 26th March.
Westerhope: 13th Feb, 27th Feb i.e. combined, 13th March i.e. combined, 19th March.
I'm aware this isn't that many Westerz crawls but I think it will take more initial work at the beginning, plus Hannah TD (who I'm hoping will 3 again) is off for a couple of weeks at the end of Jan. If ready in time potential myself or Hannah could fill in at 3 to add practices.
Please fill in the day practice asap! As yet no teams are complete for me to make any choices!
https://doodle.com/poll/zfbqqx69kqc6wh6w?utm_campaign=poll_added_participan…
See you Monday,
Becky
Hi All,
We're nearly at the end of 2019!
So, Monday 16th we will have half a practice followed by a party!
Thursday 19th is our charity Christmas Crawl - hopefully Hannah TD has some
info from BEAM and Rachel Anne is organising this, mostly likely in
Clapham/ Camberwell.
There will then be no practice until 6th January.
*DERT*
Accommodation, booking is in progress. I'm arranging this for all people
listed as a yes (and any plus 1's) on the sign up sheet (Rachel I have
included a family room for you). There should also be 2 spare beds as well,
based on how I've need to allocate rooms so if we get any more yeses there
will be space.
Becky now has a rough plan for crawl dates, though if you haven't filled in
the crawl doodle, please do so asap.
Becky also sent round the day practice poll on Tuesday, again, please fill
this in asap so we can get these sorted - we need to book the hall or an
alternative venue once we have dates confirmed.
https://doodle.com/poll/zfbqqx69kqc6wh6w
*Sign-ups*
Based on Monday, we can now definitely turn down Towersey - sorry Miriam!
(the only yes)
Once we reach January I am expecting the various unconfirmed invites to
start chasing us - please do try and fill the sign-up sheet out between now
and 6th January so we have a head start on these.
We had an invite to Furness Festival which I will decline as that is the
same weekend as Priddy Folk Festival which is already on the sign-up sheet.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
*AOB*
Bath Time expenses - Emma H is part way through this, so if you are
expecting money it will be with you soon.
Open Morris, our team renewal is up soon. there is one person with
individual membership, Emma H is trying to work out who this is, but if it
is you, please let her know and save her the effort. Additionally if you
would like an individual membership, please ask.
Finally, the Foxglove Trio (Ffion) and Brown Boots (Will & Martin) are
playing at Aces & Eights in Tufnell Park on Sunday. Doors 1930.
Have a lovely week.
Hannah
Hello all,
Please fill in the day practice poll asap.
https://doodle.com/poll/zfbqqx69kqc6wh6w
Sorry I've been slower off the mark on this than usual - I've really struggled to decide the teams last year and that was rather time consuming! Yesterday everyone suddenly asked and I've gone into slight panic mode!
The sooner we can get this filled in the sooner we can make decision on when will work best. For those new to the team we try and have two day practices for both piccadilly and westerhope. Saturdays generally mean we can use the hall, which is free. Sunday's get a bit more problematic and can cost us quite a lot!
Thanks,
Becky
Hi all,
Absences: Flo, Hannorah, Rachel, Hannah TD (I think). Will may or may not be turning up...
Clog: 7-7.30 (old clog followed by new clog) Ideally Ellie and/or Tori will be there teaching. I'm not at all comfortable teaching clog!
Rapper 7.30-9.30
Continuing work on Jubilee and Westerhope.
I know people were doing Westerhope work which I managed to miss last week - so if you bear in mind your numbers that's easier for me! Emma if you were able to work with set it would be really helpful.
Piccadilly I'd like to work with Fliss at 1 and Katherine at 5, Hannah N if you can do 2?
I'm going to double check crawl numbers and make sure everyone is happy with what we will be dancing!
Anything specific, please let me know.
Thanks,
Becky
