Is there anywhere more central we could meet that isn't the church? For example the Royal Festival Hall on the Southbank is open til 11 and lets people bring in own food.

Word up Ravens!
So... following on from our success at DERT (woop woop!) it seems only fair to celebrate with some fizz but also save a bit of cash.
So - Theme for social is Tea Party plus fizz then some good old Irish music given it's St Paddy's day.
There was an idea that we do this in the church space where we practice however not sure about alcohol in the church and also a break from there might be nice...
Fred, who did a bit of playing for us has his weekly session on Mondays at the Great Northern Railway pub, Hornsey. This is a 10 minute walk from my house... So.... Happy to host Tea Party if my fellow Ravens who don't live near this way don't mind travelling. I am a short bus ride away from Finsbury Park (Victoria / Piccadilly tube lines and overground). This is a quick link into main stations (ie. Kings X) and other lines.
My address is 2 Redston Road, N8 7HJ if you want to check out distance / travel before you let me know your thoughts. If this is going to be too far for people let me know....
PLAN B.... Tea Party in the church where we practice... I will have a word with the fella upstairs ;)
PLEASE REPLY WITH YOUR THOUGHTS ON VENUE AND CONFIRMATION OF ATTENDANCE ASAP - I will confirm details on Saturday.
Can you 'reply all' with what you are thinking of bringing so we're are not overloaded with sausage rolls, haha!
Love and eggs

Hi all,
As I'm sure you all know by now, the second half of practice on 24th will
be an EGM, primarily focussing on team aims in the next 6-12 months. I'll
be publishing a draft agenda on Friday 21st, so if you have any points
you'd like to discuss, please email me before midnight on Thursday 20th.
Thanks all!

Hey all,
for you not on facebook and also the fact that some of this has happened on the Star and Shadow private page, they've been so supportive! They've been watching the video and saying how much we've improved since last year and that they basically expect us to be serious competition given another year or two.
I know I have the strongest connection to them, but it's not bad feedback to be getting from the winning team!
Also, as a general comment, we look flipping awesome in the video! It's so long since I've sat and just watched us :)
Also Nick re. photos. If you don'y have your connector does anyone have a laptop they could put the SD card straight into?
...I like photos lol

A discovery during yesterday's car ride - there has in the past been an
official Raven called George! He was resident at the Tower from 1975 to
1986, when he was retired to Wales for attacking and destroying TV aerials!
A special decree was issued about the incident: "On Saturday 13th September
1986, Raven George, enlisted 1975, was posted to the Welsh Mountain Zoo.
Conduct unsatisfactory, service therefore no longer required."
So there you go, Sue. Better watch out!

Hi all,
On a completely un-rapper related note, The Foxglove Trio have a rare London-based gig this week. It's at The Music Box folk an acoustic night which takes place in a vintage clothes shop in Shoreditch. It's a pretty funky venue! There are 4 acts and it only costs £3. We're on 3rd at 9.20 for 30 minutes. The headliners are a band called Patch and the Giant who I think are quite a cool Mumford and Sons-esque band. Doors open 7.30pm. The exact details are on facebook- https://www.facebook.com/events/470043259789435/?ref=5 or on our website - www.thefoxglovetrio.co.uk/gigs.html
Would be lovely if any of you wanted to come along!

I've got hold of some more scores via Patrick via Jake (from Warwick)....
Championship (dancing, music and buzz but excluding character): 3rd!!!!! :-) 4 points behind Red Mum, 5.5 points ahead of Warwick.
Character: 11th! Better than the break dancing man and experienced Jeff Lawson. Only one point behind the crazy Danish man.
Music: 8th (joint with Warwick)!! Higher than our overall place! Better than Martin (Sallyport) and pro musician Damian Barber! Only 9 points less than the winners. Go guitars!!
Buzz: 15th - not amazing but never mind.
Steve Marris (i.e. overall): WE ARE THE 10TH BEST RAPPER TEAM IN THE WORLD!! Just half a point ahead of Warwick (because Jake's Tommy score was so high). Only 6.5 points less than premiership team Gaorsach. 11.5 points higher than ex-premiership team Silver Flame.
Spotlight: 12th - only 1 point less than Gaorsach!
So, again, massive well done everyone!

Photos from Simon Vaughan this morning at the school...
Thanks everyone for an amazing weekend. Looking forward to continuing the celebrations at next week's social!
It appears that, in the glaring sunlight this morning, I confused the murky green of Thrales with the murky green of Gaorsach. This means that Thrales were 5th overall, 4th for dancing, and that we're not nearly as good as Thrales but we ARE nearly as good as Gaorsach. Win win!

Hi all,
Only one new invite this week:
GODALMING HERITAGE DAYS
"We would like to invite you to come to Godalming in September for a
leisurely afternoon of Morris Dancing as part of Heritage Open Days. There
are plenty of interesting buildings, exhibitions and history walks that can
be enjoyed between dancing spots. Also we will be celebrating the 200th
birthday of the Pepperpot, our old Town Hall. All the dancing will take
place around the town centre and we will be starting around 12.00 and
finishing between 5.00 and 6.00 both days and you are welcome to attend for
any part of or all of one or both days." Several other sides are invited
(including Thrales) and it could be a good chance to socialise?

availability. I really want to get lots of this confirmed!

Hey,
Does anyone work near an M and S? I've now been in a couple and they haven't had the 100 denier ones other than mysterious woolen things or thermal (maybe not a great idea!?) if someone could pick me up a pair/couple of pairs I'd be really grateful and will reimburse when I see them on Friday?
If not I'll try again, has anyone bought a pair recently and if so could they tell me which M and S they went to? To prevent me meandering around too much!
Thanks :)

Hi All
I finally made it to Primark, & found these knickers at £1.70 each.
If we're wedded to 1,2,4 & 5 having the same pants as the tumbler I understand. If you're open to us having different ones based on the notion that you won't see as much of ours (if any), so we don't need the same wow factor - I can pick up enough pairs for the DERT team & reserves tomorrow.
(There's also black & red frilly ones for the same price Sue - if you're interested) :-)
Opinions please.

Are we supposed to have picked room mates for the weekend already? Just realised I don't even know everyone who's staying at the PI! I guess Laura and I will be arriving last as we're not leaving until after work. What do we need to do about checking in? Do you think you'll all be at the Friday night drinking venue when we get there? X
Me again!
I also bought one of these for £7, in a size 16 so it's roomy & comfy.
Just wonder if these plus iron-on logos might be a cheaper option than getting sweatshirts properly printed. (They do them in black too.)
We could put our Raven-names on the back in iron-on letters. Of course I'd be Towering Raven - ha ha!!
I know the ethics are questionable, but I love a bit of Primarni from time to time.

Hi all,
Thanks again for another great crawl last week and thanks to Hannorah and Janet for organising.
I'm really sorry that I forgot to get our final dance recorded on Thursday. I did, however, take this very dark video in the pub where we did two dances http://youtu.be/PaXcSmnIDRA.
So, DERT. It's nearly here! We've put a lot of effort in in the last two months and it's really paying off. So much of the dance is crisper, tidier and tighter than before. The reception we had at some of the pubs on Thursday just shows how good we've become! There's obviously more we could do, but there's only one more practice before DERT. I'm trying to plan our two hours wisely so I'm thinking, for the DERT set:
Little bit more precision work:
- Straight line of swords in fourth corner
- Snappy hands in pixies
- clash
Rapper is about getting the right balance between precision and buzz so I also want to work on:
- Keeping heads up throughout the dance
- Smiling at appropriate times
-Flicking skirts in walk the dog, back 8 and pixies - please bring skirts and petticoats if possible
-Dancing in tight spaces
I've sent round a lot of videos recently and I've put the links below. If you're in the DERT set please can you think of ONE thing about your personal dancing that you want to make sure you get right. It could be something you usually get right but sometimes forget, or it something that doesn't quite feel right. If you don't get time I'll think of it for you ;-)
DERT set, please let me know if there's anything crucial I've left off the list above of things to work on on Monday.
For the DERT reserve set:
More dancing to improve fluency and timings - Sinead can work with you to iron out any issues so please have a think about any figures you want to work more on.
Sue, I think you did really well on Thursday and that your timings for the jokes which relate to the figures was good. Let me know if there's anything you specifically want to work on.
Finally, please bring your sashes - Sue wants to attack them with her new diamonte gun!
See you all tomorrow,
Ffion x

Hi all,
Hope you are all doing well and looking forward to the weekend. Some new
things this week:
1. NEW INVITES
2. REPLIES NEEDED
3. GENERAL
- - - - -
1. NEW INVITES
a) WICKET BROOD DANCEOUT
We've been invited to dance out with Wicket Brood (a border morris side -
www.wicketbrood.org.uk) at a pub dance out on a summer Tuesday evening.
They've given us a choice of Tuesdays, which I have put on the sign up
sheet. Do go and have a look and put yourself down for any you can do.
They're at various pubs, all to the north of London, and all with
reasonably close train stations. Wicket Brood are a lovely side, good fun,
and it'd be good to be able to do one of these!
b) CAMDEN CLOG DoD
I've now had confirmation from Thrales that they would appreciate a hand
with the workshop. The Day of Dance is Sat 12th April, starting at 10am at
Cecil Sharp and finishing around 5pm. The provisional timetable is on
their website at www.camdenclog.org.uk. Thrales would be organising and
running the workshop teaching one of their dances. We would be helping
explain and demonstrate figures. We do not need a full side for this, but
as many people as possible, so do sign up!
c) POST-DERT
I've put the social on the 17th and the EGM on the 24th on the calendar.
Sign up to the social, especially, so Nic can organise something fun!
- - - - -
2. REPLIES NEEDED
As mentioned before, I could really do with some more sign ups for the
festivals we have invites to this summer, as deadlines are coming up soon!
If you know you're around and not signed up, please please do so. I can't
accept anything without a side. These are:
a) 7 JUNE 2014 - St Neot's Folk Festival - an easy relaxed Day of Dance in
the town centre with many other sides (including Gogs :)
b) 29 JUNE 2014 - Leigh-on-Sea Folk Festival, Essex - a lovely day out on
the Essex coast. Procession, dance spots around the town. Main day or a
four day festival.
c) 11-13 JULY 2014 - Sandwich Folk and Ale Festival, Kent - as much of the
weekend as we want to go for (either day or both). Good music and food,
dancing round the town, discounted festival tickets.
d) 4-5 OCTOBER 2014 - Tenterden Folk Festival, Kent - a lovely day out
last year, let's repeat that this year and make it a Ravens fixture! Very
laid back and easy, dancing round town in company with other sides.
- - - - -
3. GENERAL
As always, keep signing up to crawls, danceouts, and everything else! You
can let me know your availability by replying to this email, or by signing
up at
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
just remember to cut and paste your name to the appropriate line.
Thanks so much for getting to the bottom of this. See you all soon!
Rachel :)
