I think the only part of this that's relevant is the parking.

Hi all,
With only two weeks to go until our debut in the DERT Championship class (!) we'll be using the next two practices and the crawl to focus on the DERT set and reserve set. If you're not in either of these sets please keep coming though because:
A) If not everyone can make it it will be very useful to have extra dancers to slot into missing positions. E.g. I'm not sure Jo can make it tonight and my dodgy shoulder is very sore today so I might not be able to dance much.
B) it's really useful to have extra eyes outside of the set to critique and shout at us.
C) It's always nice to see your lovely faces :-)
If you're in the DERT set or reserve set please make every effort to come tonight, on Thursday and next Monday. Even if you're injured and unable to dance I think there are things we can all learn just by watching and thinking.
See you all soon,
Ffion x
Hi all,
I just wanted to check where we're at with kit for tomorrow, specifically petticoats. I think what we've got is:
Rhona - has Rachel's petticoat?
Laura S - no petticoat
Becky - no petticoat
Sinead - has own petticoat
Ffion - has own petticoat
Katherine - no petticoat
Sue - has petticoat which someone else could wear
Patrick - doesn't need one ;-)
So I think we're 1 short. Is there anyone who could drop off a petticoat with any of the people on the list above? Laura is working tomorrow at Cecil Sharp House so if anyone is planning on passing through Camden perhaps dropping one off there would work.
Ffion x
Hi all,
Please can we meet at 6pm at SOAS on Saturday? Peyman says people will start taking their seats from 6.30pm so we need to have changed into kit and checked out the space available for dancing by then.
The concert is taking place in a room called G2 which is right by the main entrance to the main building. This is opposite where we danced last September. If anyone needs help locating SOAS let me know but I think where it shows up on google maps in pretty accurate.
I mentioned the other day that the tickets are £25 each but, having read the facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/220768361435264/) details properly, that's only for waged people. The actual prices are: £25 Regular / £15 Concs / £10 students.
Part of the concert proceeds will be donated to the Omid Foundations, a charity working with marginalised young women in Iran:www.omid-e-mehr.org
See you then or on Monday,
Ffion x
My back is still hurting from yesterday, so though I will be there and
dancing, I'm going to bow out of any tumbling tonight. I don't trust
myself not to drop anybody.
Aisha - how are you feeling?
Becky - remember your pants!
Rachel
Hi all,
Very quick email from me:
1. Puzzle Competition - unless there's a huge outpouring of keenness, I'll
be turning this down this week.
2. Summer Festivals - keep signing up! Even a "I can do a) or b) but not
both" helps.
3. Contact Details - I've been trying to pull together a list of contact
details so that we have everyone's in one place. If you can fill it in,
I'd be grateful:

Hi all,
Thanks for another good practice yesterday. I know we've spent a lot of time practising and dancing in this last week but I really think it's paying off. I didn't record the final dance yesterday but it definitely felt like some if the parts we've worked on were much tighter than they were two weeks ago. We've now just got pixies, spin and hoops left to break down and perfect!
One of the reasons I didn't record yesterday was because my ipad is full so I spent last night uploading videos to youtube. Here they are:
Practice last Sunday 9/2/14 http://youtu.be/mBzXag7vb84
Practice last Monday 10/2/14 http://youtu.be/0pcmpc8aWac
Hannorah, Laura and Ffion stepping in 2014 http://youtu.be/GzCW8E4aqA4
Compare with Hannorah, Janet, Aisha and Ffion stepping in 2013 http://youtu.be/ypODAZ7Popo
Katherine, Becky and Rachel stepping in 2014 http://youtu.be/Ff-DRb9f2cw
Sue, Jo, Nic stepping in 2014 http://youtu.be/vplxv91Q5B8
Copy these with Rachel Sue, Jo and Nic stepping in 2013 http://youtu.be/UgKw70gpiT8

Thanks very much to Janet and Hannorah for organising last night's route. I particularly enjoyed dancing in the shadow of the tower itself. And congrats to Rhona and Kat on very successfully completing their first crawl.
Sorry I had to rush off at the end (and sorry Rhona that I literally ran away from you - just jumped on my train in time). Sounds like you had lots of fun with David though!
See some of you on Sunday at 3.

Well done to everyone who came on the Square Mile crawl last night, especially Rhona & Cat - Crawl Virgins no more!
It was a really good evening & great practice for DERT.
Here are the guesses for how much we raised. Treasurer Jo will announce the actual total in due course:
Nicki - £87
David - £104.70 (a friendly, mildly pissed city dude, who said he'd make up the difference between our final total & his bet!)
Sue £135.50
Jo - £96.30
Nic - £111.11
Becky - £109
Han - £90
For those who are going, have a good practice on Sunday, & see you all Monday night.

Hello, this is Emma. I was lucky enough to come to some of your classes (which I thoroughly enjoyed thank you) last year but other work commitments has stopped me from being able to return. I think it's probably best if I'm removed from the mailing list as I'm not sure when I'll be able to return.
Many thanks,

Hi all,
Thanks to everyone who came yesterday. We did some good work on walking on through to walk the dog and on stepping and the Tommy routine. I think they all improved a lot :-) The video from yesterday is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBzXag7vb8
We'll get the ending sorted out tonight!
See you later,

Hi all,
I have now made the Premier Inn booking for DERT. We are booked into the
Leeds City Centre (Arena) hotel for the Friday and the Saturday nights.
The hotel's address is Hepworth Point, Clay Pit Lane, Leeds LS2 8BQ.
I've booked one double for Nikki and Ozzy and four twin rooms for Becky,
Jo, Sue, Laura S, Nic, Rachel, Ffion and Hannorah.
If you could all refund me £52, it would be very much appreciated - you can
either send it by bank transfer to the Ravens account or hand it to me at
practice.
Thanks a lot,
Rachel x
PS. The booking doesn't include breakfast, but if you want to add it for
the extortionate price of £8 each per breakfast, you're very welcome!
Hiya,
Last night the DERT set ran through the whole dance, spending maybe 10
minutes on each figure and thinking about timings, sword handling,
placement, snappiness, why some things were working better than others, etc.
I thought I would write out the list of things we discussed (as I remember
it). Please add to this if there's things I've forgotten. It'd be good to
bring this along on Sunday and focus on these points then too.
- - - - -
Walk the Dog - timing of swords going up and down (we preferred swords up
on 1 and down on 8, but aren't very good at it); keeping swords as straight
as possible; discussion of whether to bow swords or move hands apart when
coming back in - TBD; trying to get fully back into the set on 8 before
casting out again.
Back 8 - swords going up smartly on 1 or 5; Rachel to call better.
Fig 8 - keep swords high; push swords up as you come through the middle;
vertical handles in the middle but horizontal on the outside; trying to
come to a consistent point at the front but also a consistent point at the
back.
Open ring - calling early enough that 1 and 5 can move through the set
together; Rachel to not step backwards when she turns round so that 1 and 5
remain symmetrical; sword handles level and vertical; pentagon even.
Glass - be in position in time for the swords to snap down on 4.
Haymarket - trying to make a neat shape instantly; on the rotate, keeping
the set even and tight; not letting the "back" move around too much - Nikki
to consult; Hannorah to bounce less.
Pixies - we didn't practice, but I suspect the issues here would be around
swords going up and down on the right beats, smartly, and the set staying
tight and on the spot.
Stand-in guard - practised for Jo's benefit with the timings and Lindsey to
tumble. Felt pretty good.
Lock - we need to step for 4 to catch up with the music if necessary before
displaying, but if we're there already, an 8 is *not* necessary - there's
been confusion about that lately.
Spin - Rachel needs to remember to call it for longer (I know 16 has been
discussed).
Walk round - nice and tight
Hoops - practised coming out on the right beats, neatly, which was going
well; making sure to catch up with the person in front; number 5 leading
strongly out of the circle; keeping swords high; making sure the display is
neat and even; coming out tidily - 1&5 turning together, when does 3 turn?.
Fourth corner - moving quickly; swords high; snap down on 4; snap to
straight line; 1 and 5 with crossed wrists central over body; 2 and 4 to
lean hands more towards the centre of the set.
Curley - keeping shoulders tight to the pillar; keeping the pillars
stationary - 4&5 pillar was drifting away; coming through with your
partner; swords curving nicely; Sue to come in on the right of the set to
avoid unbalancing; not to worry too much about Sue coming in!
- - - - -
Thanks for making it to the end! Before we all get depressed, I think it's
worth saying that these are all little niggles, not major issues. We also
got compliments last night, with Rhona and Kat both saying how well our
stepping sounded.
See you all Sunday!
Rachel x
Hi all,
A couple of updates on the invitations from last night:
1. OXFORD
Due to general lack of availability, I'll be turning Oxfolk down (26-27/4).

2. PUZZLE DISPLAY
Lots of people are on holiday on 8th August! If you are not, please sign
up to this - it's a paid display spot on a Friday night. If were aren't
going to be able to make it, I need to decline (and potentially recommend
Thrales) sooner rather than later. I'm waiting on Lindsey, Sinead, Rhona,
Aisha, Becky, Hannorah, Janet, Nic. Please let me know in the next week or
two what your summer plans are!

3. SUMMER FESTIVALS
We've been invited to three summer festivals, none of which are getting
much love at the moment. We were keen to do a festival last summer -
please sign up to those we've been invited to this year!
29 JUNE 2014 - Leigh-on-Sea Folk Festival - Leigh-on-Sea, Essex
11-13 JULY 2014 - Sandwich Folk and Ale Festival - Sandwich, Kent
4-5 OCTOBER 2014 - Tenterden Folk Festival - Tenterden, Kent
