Thanks Rachel.
I'll be driving from Berkhamstead. I realise that probably isn't very
useful for lifts as I its the wrong side of London. if anyone wants to
come to Berko for 9.30 I can give a lift from there, but byt the time
you've done that you may as well go straight to Oxford.

Ladies,
More info for Sunday has now been confirmed. The current list of people
attending is: Becky, Fred, Ffion, Hannorah, Janet, Lindsey, Nikki, Sue and
the maybes are: Jo, Rachel, Sinead.
Apologies to the rest of you for an irrelevant email!
"The overall plan for this year's extravaganza is as follows:
Meet from 11am in the Royal Blenheim, to begin dancing at 12 noon (sharp!)
The Blenheim will be serving tea, coffee, bacon butties and all the usual
morning stuff (plus, of course, beer from their amazing array of handpumps).
We plan to move on to the Far From the Madding Crowd around 1:15.
Then it all goes a bit free form, and we will split into three tours that
will be organised on the hoof.
Meet up at the Kings Arms in order to begin dancing at 4pm. Ali promises us
that there will be food as usual and - we dare to hope - home-made cake.
Getting There
The postcode for The Royal Blenheim is OX1 1PT. It is about ten minutes
walk from the Gloucester Green bus station, about 15 minutes from the train
station and easily accessed by the Park & Ride buses."
Regarding transport, there are regular trains from Paddington (about an
hour), or the Oxford Tube from Victoria area. There may also be people
thinking of driving - I know Lindsey might? I shall leave you to sort that
one amongst yourselves.

Ravens,
I have quite a strong opinion that tower ravens should only advertise the
info(a)towerravens.org.uk email address to external sources.
This means that if a festival organiser, in 2 years time, picks up an email
address for us, they will still get through to the committee rather than
someones personal account who may or may not still be dancing.
This applies to festival/booking invites, communications to other sides,
setting up hoodie or buisness card accounts, DERT, dancing out at pubs.
As a result, could I request that anyone who wishes to send emails
externally either:
- forwards them to the secretary to then forward on
- talk to me about getting you added to the info@ mailing list, so that you
can then set up your emails to appear as sending from info@.
At present I'm assuming that it is only really the committee that need to
send emails like this, as we've now have a precident for festival invites.
(They get forwarded to the secretary).
Cheers!
Lindsey
Hi all,
Just to let you know that I've added the Saturdays and Sundays between
Christmas and DERT to the bottom of the list. Please go and sign up your
availability so we can choose dates for a couple of all day extra practices!

Hi,
Sorry I don't think I'm going to make it tonight, my friend is quite ill and I don't want to leave her on her own.

Hi all,
Sending in my apologies for tonight. We're very very busy at work and I'm
not going to be able to get out in time for practice.
In my absence, there are three events that I'd like to encourage people to
sign up to:
1. THURSDAY'S CRAWL
As you all saw from Hannorah's email, Thursday's crawl will be in
Whitechapel. We had a really good reception last time we danced in
Whitechapel, so I'd really encourage everybody who can make it to be there
and make it a good night again!
- - - - -
2. MABEL'S DAY (THIS SUNDAY)
Mabel's Day is coming up on us soon! I'll send the detailed info with
timings out later this week, but basically it's an afternoon of very gentle
dancing round some Oxford pubs in great company. We've got a side, but
only just, so if you think you might be free for some rapper fun on Sunday,
do but your name down. There's quite a few maybe's that could do with
turning into Y/Ns.
It might also be worth talking about transport tonight - there are
obviously trains and the Oxford Tube, but is anybody driving and could give
lifts?
- - - - -
3. WASSAILING WITH CHINGFORD MORRIS (4 JAN 2014)
This is still a little while away (after Christmas!) but I'd love to be
able to reply to say we can come in the next couple of weeks, so please
sign up to that! We've not quite got a side at present, so another couple
of names would be good. It sounds like a lovely little event up in North
London: "there will be dancing, music and eating and drinking from 7.30pm
onwards".
- - - - -
That's all from me for now. I hope practice goes well tonight and hope to
see you all soon! Don't forget the sign ups:

Hi All
I'm going down to Whitechapel this evening to confirm our pubs for Thurs.
I may make it to practice afterwards but it depends how long it takes me to do the rounds. Whatever happens its unlikely I'll be there for the first hour.
I'll send through the route for Thursday tomorrow. But in the meantime lets agree to meet at the Blind Beggar at c.7.00-7.15 ready to dance by 7.30.

Could anyone who wrote a text report for the AGM - (Hannorah, Rachel,
Ffion) can you either send me a copy, or put it into a google doc named
'2013 xxx report' in the minutes folder on the towerravensrapper drive?
If the later option don't make sense - email it to info@
Cheers,
Lindsey

Tower Ravens AGM minutes
Present: LK, JD, JS, NO, RS, Sue, Catherine, Laura, Aisha, nic, Becky,
Katherine, Ffion, Hannorah
Apologies: Sinead
Elect Chair for tonight:
* Jo. Voted in by peer pressure and not really by mutual consent.
*Ffion arrives stage left*
Ratify last year minutes:
* Sue is our Tommy, nic to try being a Tommy. Do we want a Betty? Can try
if anyone keen but not necessary.
Officer reports:
Ffion:
yay everyone has improved and they should be proud of themselves. Better at
disaster prevention. Going to dert was a good idea, now seen as a team.
Accurate place for where we were. Gained lots of people, lost none.
Pleased. Thanks for your effort. Thanks Rachel for help with teaching.
Frustrations.
1. Too much chat in practice. Put your shoes on first. (Social events more
often as possible solution. Maybe just abolish chatting at beginning, move
from pub earlier. Agreed! Yay.)
2. Attendance lacking (in summer, maybe OK with doodle poll). Addressed by
more members, but please turn up.
*Hannorah turns up*
Nikki:
Position not clear. Am rubbish (though did liaison with church hall
promptly). Mentioned that secretary role not respected by email moderators.
27 invites, 15 external. report from Rachel.
Rachel:
Report in additional document.
(Discussion point, keep subs as is and keep making profit or lower subs.
Maybe subsidise tower ravens events.)
Hannorah:
Report additional. Will add list of all pubs we've danced in to the
spreadsheet.
Nic:
Dinner post dert, a couple of ceilidhs. Whitby and Tenterden. Want more
feedback on what people want to do, and how much. Also what is expected of
the role.
Sue:
All established members have kit, new members to get them. Have found lots
of fabric so now have stock for everything except zips. Tommy costume took
ages. Thanks people to helped to make the skirts and sashes. Have a booklet
now documenting how kit is made so people can make their own if they want.
Kit looks much better than Whip the Cat's. Tumbling? Standardise tights?
(DP)
Lindsey:
Twitter, Facebook, Google calendar. Google account has info@ , make
everything from that account so we have records of correspondence.
Publicity images, logo, business card templates all in Google account.
Missing wardrobe, crawls, reports and minutes. Worth making account details
public to committee only. Continue sharing appropriate things. Feedback
wanted on pubs. Mailing list OK. Haven't got a website. Want a placeholder
page. Can't upload photos to Facebook as TR or tag TR.
Nikki (cake):
Cake is tasty, thanks everyone for making tasty cakes.
Discussion points:
* Happy with venue and time? Yes
* Regularity of tours and dance outs? Later
* dance? Named after tube lines, have a good dance and a learner dance.
Let's call dances by their tube names. Jubilee is not-finished-dert dance.
People seem to not want a third dance before dert. Happy to work on current
dances. Could do dance well, add tumble. Start at January is good idea, so
don't have to decide now.
* DERT: do we want to do it? Yes! Could enter two teams, subject to space.
Majority (but not all) want to go competitively. Yes to intensive training
of 5 people but make sure everyone else is improving at a similar rate for
substitution and niceness. Try for one main team, make them as good as
possible. We want to be placed I.e. 1st 2nd 3rd.
* cinquefoil day of dance: no dates yet.
* date of AGM: keep as is, EGM after DERT is good. Set as Monday after
Thrales Rapper day. Planned EGM after dert.
* constitution: treasurer to learn what banks need for a society account.
* hoodies/branding: good for festivals and bonding and workshops. Happy?
Yes. Let's make pubs officer do it. Choose designs later.
* keys: second set fine but only hush hush. One set to stay with swords.
Other to stay with someone who can get in emergency. Or just bring anyway.
Should move around if necessary
* subs: fine to stay as is
* fundraising in crawl: good. Assign collector before dance. Bring friends.
* publicising: fine, but choose pubs earlier, hopefully 8 pubs (if densely
populated with pubs) with some spares.
* musician: need more backup. Laura to help during practice. Concertina
brought, maybe branded stool. Maybe Martin (good rapper musician) as
backup. Need to come to practice if want to come dancing out. If not
playing much then don't ask for subs.
* to-do: clarify this subs thing
* tumbles? Yes please, before Christmas. Email Thrales. Character
workshop? Yes if there is one. Secretary to work out.
Election of Posts:
Chairwoman/Pres/Foreperson/crown Raven/Bag Fairy.
Person who stops the buck and is responsible. Quality control of
everything. Can delegate things that aren't defined. Teaches/delegates
dancing. Manages practice. Make pocket on sword bag for business cards and
keys. Makes decisions on things with little notice. Leads discussion on
things. Not a dictator. If dictator, revolutionary EGM and usurp said
dictator.
Nb everyone has an equal voice.

Hi Ben
Thank you very much for inviting Tower Ravens to your Day of Dance next May.
I note that the deadline for replies is tomorrow, so I'd just like to assure you that we haven't forgotten about it. We'd love to join you and we think we'll have a side available; we're just waiting to confirm the availability of our musician.
Do you need exact numbers now, or can it wait until you need the deposit next month?
Although we can dance on hard surfaces, rapper is far more effective on wooden floors, so would it be possible for us to dance inside the pubs where possible?
Looking forward to see you all at the Dacre Christmas bash, if not before.

Hi all,
Another invitation to dance out next year. I've put the date in the spreadsheet. I think dancing rapper on cobbles is out of the question so we should probably ask a bit more about the day and the other dance spots before committing to anything.

Hi all,
Looking forward to seeing you all next week! I was talking to the "bag" at Flagcrackers yesterday, she and the rest of the team would like to invite Tower Ravens to their day of dance next year, I think it's going to be in June, we would be the only rapper side there, but there are several other teams booked.
I need to double check the dates and some other details, but what I know for sure is that the dancing will take place in Skipton on the Saturday, and Sunday there will be a short walk in the surrounding areas, all teams are welcome to join Flagcrackers for that, but obviously if people needed to go home that's fine. There is no accommodation provided, but there is a nice local campsite in Cononley, I've stayed there before, it's 4 minutes away by train, and if you aren't up for camping there are plenty of places to stay in Skipton.
I know it's quite far away but I thought I'd give it a mention just in case, there's no rush in deciding if we want to or not for the moment. I'll check the details for next Monday if you are interested and if there's anything else you would like to know for then just send me an email.
See you soon,
Aisha x
P.S. Rachel, I have the money I owe you, I'll bring it on Monday.
Hiya,
Maybe I should have put this in my previous email, but you are all welcome
to the housewarming / very-early-Christmas party that Dan and I are hosting
on Saturday 30th November, 7pm onwards, with tasty mulled wine. Hope to
see lots of you there!
Note that it clashes with the Saturday evening pre-Mabel Day, so if you'd
all rather go dancing in Oxford, I understand! ;)
Rachel x
Hi all,
We'll run through this some more tonight, but here's some info on things
we've been invited to, just to get this in one place and a bit more
organised:
- - - - -
1. NEW INVITES
(a) MABEL DAY - 1 DECEMBER 2013
Our official invite for Mabel Day: "It's our annual afternoon of dancing
and cake-eating round the pubs of central Oxford, on Sunday December 1st. We
also usually tour round a different area of Oxford the Saturday evening
beforehand, and if you'd like to join us for that too it'd be lovely :) I'm
afraid that, being a rather scattered team (geographically, speaking, but
also wits-wise) we don't have any accommodation in Oxford to offer you (in
fact, most of us are also wondering where we're going to stay...) Drop us a
line if you're interested in joining us on either the Saturday
or the Sunday!"
We know we've a team for the Sunday. Do we want to do Saturday night as
well?
(b) CHINGFORD WASSAIL - 4 JANUARY 2014
They say "We would like to ask you to our Wassail on January 4th, Town
Mead, Waltham Abbey, there will be dancing, music and eating and drinking."
- update from Sue is that this will be from 7.30/8pm. We should reply to
them soon!
(c) CHINGFORD GENERAL DANCEOUT
They also say "We dance out at local pubs on alternative Monday evenings
between May and July - would you be interested in a dance out with us?" -
is this something we are interested in? Shoul we suggest potential dates?
- - - - -
2. UPDATES
(a) NORTHWOOD DAY OF DANCE - 10 MAY 2014
This has been in the calendar for a while, however the signing up deadline
is NOVEMBER 15th, which is Friday, so please please do make sure you are
signed up if you're available! I think it would be a really fun thing to
do.
Sue says "It's a great day out in the Surrey/Kent Hills; coach transport
between great pubs at places such as Penshurst and Limpsfield Chart,
although the exact itinerary changes from year to year. All very pretty
and green at a lovely time of year. However it's mostly morris, so they
don't cater for wooden floors. Dancing is outside, although we could
always dance indoors if the floor is more suitable."
(b) CINQUEFOIL DAY OF DANCE - 18 or 25 JANUARY 2014
We have suggested these two dates to Cinquefoil and are waiting on an
answer from them. Do keep signing up though!
- - - - -
The spreadsheet is, as ever, at
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvM6rY7GMmOGdF9vYVIwaXBmXzViSz…
See you all tonight!
Rachel
This is Carol's address:
carolwoodward(a)hotmail.com
Could someone add her to our mailing list, please?
Apparently we should have received another invitation, this time from Chingford Morris, whom we met at Tenterden. I'm not sure how or where it was sent and why we didn't receive it, but that now makes 2 invitations we never received. We probably need to review the situation, as we may have missed others too. Unfortunately I'm far too computer-illiterate to volunteer any help here.
Their invitation is for Wassailing on Saturday 4th January 2014 at Waltham Abbey from 7.30-8 pm onwards.
Can we discuss this tonight, please, along with Northwood's invitation for Saturday 10th May 2014 (attached again).
Please complete the spreadsheet if you haven't and you can find it (which I can't).
Look forward to seeing you tonight

Hello all,
There is a church meeting in the hall this evening. It should be finished
by 7.30, but just in case its not, we may have our 1/2 time discussions
about dates before practise in weatherspoon.
So - if you get there at 730 and there's not the right people in the hall -
come to the pub!
Lindsey
Hi everyone,
I've written a draft agenda for our AGM on Monday 18 November. You should be able to view it here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZvdXqW4Z27IFSoyPeTa27kEDh4eUoHw626ZLjBt…
You should also be able to edit the document. Please add any discussion points you'd like to raise with your name next to it. Please also take a look at the tasks assigned to each position and add any facets of the job you think are missing. We can discuss the positions before the elections to check that everyone thinks the tasks are correctly allocated.
If you think you'd like to stand for a position feel free to talk to any of us about what the position entails. With the exception of leader, secretary and treasurer you can stand for more than one position e.g. this year Nikki was secretary as well as cake monitor. I've attached last year's minutes and the minutes from the EGM we held after DERT 2013.
See you on Sunday,
Ffion x
