Hello,
Just to confirm that the SOAS fresher's ceilidh will definitely be taking place on Wednesday 25 Sept. We've got enough dancers for that evening so we will change the date for the Sept crawl to 25 rather than 26 Sept. If you haven't marked your availability on the sheet yet please do so. Hannorah's going to look in to other pubs to dance at in the area.
Lindsey is going to bring the business card designs on Monday so we can pick one and get them ready in time for 25 Sept.
Have fun at the wedding everyone, especially Rachel!

Hi all,
This is all sounding good. However, can we just make sure we actually have
a side for 26th before I reply to Nat? Lindsey's away, I'm not sure if I'm
available, and Nikki may be on honeymoon...? Who is around?
In terms of travel expenses, I was unsure about that too. How much does it
cost 5 people to travel? But then if we usually make £75 or so by ourselves
of an evening, we'd do better both for longer. If we went for 9th instead
they might claim lower travel costs if travelling for the Sunday anyway? I
don't know.
I guess what I'm trying to say is please everybody sign up for all the
suggested dates and let's see when we've got a side for! If we're not happy
with any of her suggestions we can make some of our own.

Coming into this a bit late (or as you seemed to have reached a sensible

26th October sounds good. Without checking, I remember we had a 'Halloween
crawl' in for 31st October, so we could do 26th instead of that.
I'm totally happy to organise pubs. We can discuss where's best, & ensure
we're not going to the same areas as Thrales would be on 9th Nov.
One thing I would say, & this isn't meant to sound mean, but splitting
funds 50:50 is totally fair, however doubt there'll be loads left 'after
travel costs' for 5+ people to & from Leicester. I'm not bothered as of
course it's more for the fun of it, just thought I'd say.

I'm not sure that it would be rude to conflict with Thrales, since neither
side would be invited on the Saturday - and we could choose a different
area. However it would make a very rapper-heavy weekend. And I think we
need a strong side out on the Sunday, so we might be unwise to consider
that Saturday from a variety of perspectives.
However, if Cinquefoil intend to invite themselves on the Sunday, they may
wish to make a weekend of it .......

Didn't want to distract you from what I imagine are frantic wedding plans,

crawl. Still have to transfer it from my account, but will do so soon (but
see below).
Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to Saturday!
Don't forget to let me know if I can help.
Sinead is now in the process of organising her kit and I've finished the
first draft of the kit booklet. I've also ordered some more black fabric
and sash lining, so I'll wait to subtract the cost of that from the
takings, if that makes sense and you approve. The aim is always to have
enough fabric in stock to make 1 or 2 complete outfits, so that we don't
have a repeat of recent difficulties. Sinead still has your kit. We

that's not the case).

We're on Colombo Street just off Blackfriars Road (south of the bridge) and
if you call me on 07910 836480 when you are outside I can run down and pass

Hi all,
I write with 3 pieces of good news:
1) The swords have arrived!! Can't see what they look like because they're all in bubble wrap. I think we should dance with the old swords on Thursday but I'll bring the new ones on Monday.
2) We might be getting a new member - someone called Katherine Richardson I chatted to briefly at Whitby last week. I think she's hoping to come on Monday.
3) At / after the last practice we discussed the fact that we need to do another recruitment drive sometime soon and somebody suggested doing a crawl around the student union bars during freshers' week. I've asked the guy who now runs SOAS ceilidh soc and he's happy for us to come and do a spot at half time on their freshers' ceilidh which is probably going to be on 25 Sept. I've added that date to the availability sheet. If we can get a team for Wednesday 25 Sept I suggest crawling on that date instead of the Thursday 26 Sept, as originally planned. Please fill in yr availability asap https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AvM6rY7GMmOGdF9vYVIwaXBmXzViSzM….
See you all soon,

Hi All
Hope you're looking forward to the Bank Holiday weekend!
Hope you're also looking forward to next week's crawl, which I can now confirm is 'Crawl - Fitzrovia' (that's around the Great Portland Street area).
I've also delighted to announce that the one & only Janet Dilke is crawl organiser this time. She's already confirmed at least 5 pubs and hopes to add a couple more by next Thursday.
So either Janet or I will be in touch early next week with the full list & a confirmed meeting spot. Let's aim to meet at 7pm to dance at 7.30.
Thanks all & have a great weekend.

Hi all,
There have been a couple of changes to availability for the 29 August crawl so the team would now be:
1 - Lindsey
2 - Janet (possibly plus Jo but not sure yet)
3 - Nic
4 - Sinead (Hannorah probably can't make it and I might be a bit late)
5 - Sue
M - Nikki
Basically we'd have one dancer per position plus me as back up for most positions. If you're all happy to crawl with this paired down team we need someone to organise the pubs. I could do it but it would have to be in Farringdon and, as I might be late, you might have to navigate the first pub or two without me. Are there any other volunteers?
Ffion x
Hi all,
Sorry I didn't make it to practice yesterday. Lindsey said that there had
been some discussion about my wedding, so I thought I should email with
more details. You are all invited to the evening ceilidh/contra which is
7.30pm-11pm on the St John's playing fields (accessible from Grange Road).
I we have a side (I think we do?) Ravens will be dancing, scheduled for
22.10 at the moment. You aer of course very welcome to come and celebrate
even if you are not dancing!
The full details are on the website at danandrachel.org.uk and there are
also suggestions on transport / accommodation / etc there.
If anybody wants to know anything else, just ask!
Rachel :)
Hi all,
Some good news to start - we've some more information on the swords from Jimmie Kilner and we've decided definitely to buy the set he's offering us so hopefully we'll have them really soon. We can either have them posted or pick them up at Towersey. Is anyone definitely going?
Patrick is coming to the beginning of practice tomorrow to give us a go through the dance with a different musician so please remember to come ON TIME because he can't stay long. I'll try and be there by 7.20 to have the room ready to dance in by 7.30.
For Whitby I thought we should agree on a weekend schedule. Here's a suggestion but I'm very happy to change any of it depending on other people's plans. I can probably lend you some tickets as Cathy from the band isn't coming up until Sun / Mon. Let's discuss tomorrow and call Aisha from practice:
SATURDAY
4pm - meet somewhere along the parade route to watch the parade (if you want to watch it)
6.15pm - meet everyone else at a specific point - tourist information?
6.30pm - tea together - fish and chips?!
8pm - crawl
11pm - go to last hour of ceilidh at the spa pavillion
SUNDAY
10 - 11.20am - we could all go to the Thrales workshop although I'm not sure there's much point as we won't be able to go to any of the others together.
1 - 3pm - if anyone wants to go to a session Alistair Anderson is leading one at this time in the Conservative Club.
3.30pm - afternoon tea
5.30pm - early evening crawl
9pm - finish up at the spa pavilion to see Thrales' spot and have a (ceilidh) dance
Last week at practice we did some good work on the new dance and practiced the following figures, any case you want to think through them before tomorrow:
Walk on with swords pointing downwards
Put swords up at a slant one by one (as in beadnell)
Start walking round and 2 clashes
Single guard in 4s
Open ring
Number 2 ring
Display the lock whilst walking round twice (as in swallwell)
Break out into coach and horses
Mary anne
Cramper
Lock and nut
Finally, did we decide on a cake person for tomorrow? I'm happy to do it if you like.
Ffion x
Hi,
I hope you're all well (especially those of you recovering from sicknesses!) and that you had a fun crawl last week.
I just wanted to check what we'd decided about the August crawl. I think it was that we'd stick with the date of 29 August but that we'd need a musician. Someone was going to ask Fred if he's available. Has that been done yet? I've provisionally asked Patrick and Martin and they're both available but if you'd prefer to go with Fred (if he's available and willing) that's fine but I should let Martin know as soon as possible either way. Do we have a location for this crawl yet?
Patrick will probably play for us a bit at Whitby (and he's asked if M-J / Ru will play for some of the time too) and someone mentioned they were a little concerned about dancing out with a new musician so Patrick will come to the practice on 12 August for the fist half hour to run through the dance a few times. Please can we make sure we have a team there on time for this day so Patrick can leave for Thrales at 8?
See you on Monday!

Hi Hannorah & the Ravens,
I'm sorry I didn't let you know I couldn't make it yesterday, I had a rough day. My physio thinks I've just overworked a short-acting muscle in my hip (apparently it's quite common for people with hypermobility). I'm off the crutches at the moment but it'll be really easy for me to do it again, so I won't be dancing again 'till it stops hurting. Hopefully I'll be at practice on monday either way.In other news I've decided not to return to Exeter in September, I'll take a gap year instead, and that means I'll be around to keep dancing.

Subject: [Tower Ravens] Crawl Soho - important update
Good Morning all
For those who are coming tonight, we are now meeting at 7.30 at the Blue Posts on Berwick St. As the Endurance has closed
down!! There are several Blue Posts in & around Soho. This is the one on Berwick St: http://www.fancyapint.com/Pub/london/blue-posts/670
This is the proposed dancing route, although we may mix the order up a bit & the outside dances are optional:
1.The Admiral Duncan - Old
Compton St (needs to be early as cabaret is on at 9) 2.Possibly outside French House – Dean Street 3. The Crown – Brewer St 4. Crown and 2 Chairman - Dean St 5. Golden Lion - Dean Street (outside is preferable)
Coach and Horses - Greek Street TBC 6. Pillars of Hercules - Greek St
7. Carlisle Arms - Bateman St 8. Possibly outside Dog and Duck - Bateman St 9. De Hems TBC
– Macclesfield Street (good place to end as big & friendly) Tonight is going to be a fantastic! Its Soho on a balmy summer evening. It's a Thursday & for many it's pay day. I reckon we're going to get a great reception and hopefully raise a bit of cash. So come armed with your best smile ready to have loads of fun.

Because of the warm weather (& cos I'm running out of time to confirm pubs) its gonna be shorter than usual, probably 5 pubs, may be 6.
So let's meet in the Endurance on Berwick St, at 7.30, ready to dance at 8: http://www.theendurance.co.uk/They do serve food or there's a Tesco just a few doors down for sarnies, fruit, biccies etc.
I'll send a list of confirmed pubs tomorrow, but they are likely to consist of some of the following, and we could potentially risk one or two street dances too: 1. Soho theatre2. The Blue Posts

Hi all,
I have now counted the collection from Thursday and am pleased to announce
a total of £64.67 and €0.40.
See you all tomorrow. I've got the swords and Janet the door keys.

Hey Ravens
Hope you're all looking forward to Crawl Soho on Thursday.
This is who's confirmed their attendance:
Lindsey 1/3 Rachel 1/3
Janet 2
Nic 3
Sinead 4
Josie 4
Sue - 5
Nikki - quaver-ravening
Me - roadie/collecting/having a go at Tommying - if no one minds
Because of the warm weather (& cos I'm running out of time to confirm pubs) its gonna be shorter than usual, probably 5 pubs, may be 6.
So let's meet in the Endurance on Berwick St, at 7.30, ready to dance at 8: http://www.theendurance.co.uk/
They do serve food or there's a Tesco just a few doors down for sarnies, fruit, biccies etc.
I'll send a list of confirmed pubs tomorrow, but they are likely to consist of some of the following, and we could potentially risk one or two street dances too:
1. Soho theatre
2. The Blue Posts (there's a couple of pubs with this name in the area - so hopefully at least one)
3. The Endurance
4. Carlisle Arms
5. Crown & 2 Chairman
6. De Hems
7. Shaston Arms
8. Three Greyhounds
9. The Admiral Duncan
10. The Angel (St Giles high st)
See you then.
