Hi everyone,
Good practice last night despite unbearable heat!
Just a few diary updates:
We're not going to Hannorah's boat this year but will decide on a date soon for next year.
There will be NO PRACTICE on 19 or 26 August. We think we'll be able to practice on all other Mondays during the summer but please tell us if you're going on holiday so we can be sure to have a team at each practice.
Because of not practising on 19 and 26 August we decided to see if we can do the August crawl on 5 September instead. Please fill in your availability on the sheet.
See you next week,
Ffion x
Hi all,
Just had this in a facebook message. I think most of us weren't going
to Towersey, but if anybody is and is interested...
"Hello Tower Ravens,
Phil Bassindale pointed me in your direction. I run a company called
Shooting Roots that teaches various folk arts - including rapper dance
- at various festivals.
We are booked to run rapper workshops at Towersey Folk Festival in
August (22nd-26th) and, unfortunately, have have a number of rapper
tutors cancel on us at very short notice. I am assembling something of
a skeleton team so far but we're still desperate for rapper dancers to
assist. Would all or some of your team be interested in coming to
Towersey and joining forces with representatives from Gaorsach and
Silver Flame? I'm afraid Shooting Roots can't offer any monetary
payment for doing this but we can provide tickets (with camping) for
the festival and see about getting you booked in to perform somewheres
if you manage to arrange a full team.
It'd be great to hear from you soon as we're away to Sidmouth before
long and will have considerably less time to administrate.
Thanks and regards,
Calum Anderson
Shooting Roots Festival Director"

I've just bought up WH Smith's complete stock of Cadbury's eggs, reduced to half price because they'll be out of date this month.
Would anyone care to volunteer to take charge of them, so that I'm not tempted to sample them regularly to ensure that they haven't melted/gone off/hatched?
The little girl wasn't there when I crossed the bridge last night and her belongings weren't there either. And no, I haven't eaten her Mars bar - yet.
IO a few pence to the kitty, btw.

Hi All
I've made a couple of updates to our dates spreadsheet based on discussions at this week's practice. Please can everyone take a look and add any missing details about what they can and can't make it to:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvM6rY7GMmOGdF9vYVIwaXBmXzViSz…
A few things to be aware of:
1. I've also added in a column to indicate which events are definitely confirmed, i.e. we've definitely got enough people who can dance the right positions to go ahead, based on the following:
Soho crawl: Han does number 5 or Sue confirms she can make it.Rach's wedding: Lindsey dances number 1.Whitby: Janet and/or Jo can make it (Janet's already confirmed, as long as she and Han can sort our camping accommodation).
2. I've added more potential dates for the Berkhamsted Canal Pub Crawl. Can everyone please make it a priority to fill in which dates they can/can't do, as I need to know whether I need to secure pubs or whether we're going to put it on hold for this year.
3. I've added a tab recording the pubs and contact names from Holborn Crawl. I intend to do this for all the other crawls, once I've dug out the lists :-). Nic you've already sent me Camden so I can add that too if you want.
I'm happy to print out the updated version for Monday's practice. All you need to do it add in your details.
Thanks

Hi All, I can now make Whitby and am contacting Hannorah re the possibility of camping as there does not seem to be much accommodation left. If anyone else has other ideas please let us know.
The Thames festival runs from the 6th to 15th Sept.
The organisers are asking for iinfo on the team so which video do we want to send in?
I get the impression there is not room for all groups to be included and those not successful are not contacted. We may be better off going round some pubs a bit further away from the Thames.
I sadly can not make practise next week but will be there the one after. I will bring cakes unless anyone else is keen.

Hi all,
I've heard from Jim again about the swords. They are 27" (not 17" as I said on Thursday) so this must be from end to end, not just the blade part. I measured ours again last night and the short one is 26 and a half inches so Jim's would be half an inch longer. I'll write to him just to confirm the length of the blade part but does anyone have any objections to placing an order for the 27" ones? They're ready now so we'd have them really soon!
Could you let me know in the next couple of days if you have an opinion?
Thanks,
Ffion
Hi All
For those of you who are coming, Thursday's crawl will be in Holborn.
Pubs TBC, but let's meet at 7pm (ready to dance at 7.30pm) at the Shakespeare's Head:
http://m.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/pubs/shakespeares-head
- left out of Holborn and it's right there.
I will aim to get a list of pubs to you in advance of Thursday evening.

Hi,
I remembered also that a couple of people on tour were asking me how
much they owe, so here's the list:
Aisha - 16
Fred - 24
Janet - 12
Jo - 48
Josie - 8
Nic - 20
Nikki - 27
Rachel - 25
Hope that helps! (And I should really pay mine...)

Hi All
Tomorrow's crawl is going to be a good one, I've got some lovely pubs lined up with more to confirm tomorrow.
Plus Blackheath Morris are also dancing around the area tomorrow too. Weirdly Sue and I found this out almost simultaneously - Sue from her pals at Blackheath & my from a pub manager!! :-)
They're doing the Rugby Tavern at 7.30 (a tbc for us), The Lamb at 8.30( carpeted inside so not great for us), and The Old Nick at 9.30 (we're in c.8.30). So I don't think there's any fear of us infringing on their patch & hopefully we can catch a bit of them too.
Likely pubs are extremely tentative timings are:
1. 7.00-7.30 meet at Shakespeare's Head (dance TBC):
http://m.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/pubs/shakespeares-head
2. 7.45 Ship Tavern (almost confirmed):
www.theshiptavern.co.uk
3. 8.00/15 The Old Nick:
http://oldnickholborn.co.uk/
8.30 Possibly pop to see Blackheath at The Lamb (optional):
http://www.youngs.co.uk/pub-detail.asp?PubID=421
5. 9.00 The Enterprise:
http://www.the-enterprise.co.uk/contact-us.asp
6. 9.15 Outside The Dolphin (optional, not sure how you all feel about outside):
http://www.fancyapint.com/Pub/london/dolphin-tavern/200
7. 9.40ish The Rugby Tavern (tbc):
http://www.shepherdneame.co.uk/pubs/london/rugby-tavern
8. 10.00 Coco Momo:
http://www.foodandfuel.co.uk/our-cafes/coco-momo-holborn/
9. 10.20 Queens Larder (if not too busy):
http://www.queenslarder.co.uk/
10. 10.30 Friend at Hand:
http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/friend-at-hand-bloomsbury/c6713/
Please don't be alarmed by the number of pubs & very rough timings, there's a couple of 'TBCs' and a couple of 'optionals' - so we can very much play it by ear.
I reckon, with the weather, the Blackheath Morris coincidence & the general positive vibes I got from the pubs in the area - tomorrow evening's going to be great!
So if anyone was a 'no' or a 'maybe' but thinks they might change your their minds & come - do it - you won't regret it!
Thanks

Hi All
Those who were interested in camping at Tenterden the info is below.
I'm up for indoor camping if
a) they've got space
b) other people are
(£20 for outdoor feels too steep for one night only.)
Please let me know by end of the week if you want to indoor/outdoor camp so I can confirm with Allan. Appreciate you may want to discuss as a team on Monday, which is fine, however as indoor places are limited the longer we leave it the more likely it is that they'll be full up.
Cheers

The cost is: Per caravan or camper-van £20.00 Per Tent £18.00. We may still have limited indoor camping available and all we ask is a donation per person to help pay the Scouts for the Hall. Dancing on Sunday is fairly casual from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00. There are various sites and sides move around them throughout the day.

Hi all,
Sorry for the short notice but I'm not going to be able to make it tonight.
I hope that doesn't cause any problems, and I'll be back as usual next week.
Rachel :)
Hi All
I'm not going to be able to make it to practice tonight, but hope its a good one.
Can you let me know if any of you are planning to camp at Tenterden, so I can let the organisers know. We have confirmed ourselves for Sunday, so I'm assuming everyone who said yes to that day can still make it.
Thanks

Hi all,
Short notice, but we've just had an email through from Thrales. They were
booked to do some dancing round Clerkenwell **this Saturday** and now
haven't got a side and wondered if we could help them out.
Replies asap please! It would be good if we could help. I know I can't do
it as I'm booked with Gogs.

Hi all,
Just saw this photo and thought it was worth sharing https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151414432886701&set=pb.1515530867…. It's a great example of how sword handing in a walk round figure such as single guard should be done. Look at how much Dan and Patrick are concentrating on making sure their swords are together eventhough it looks a little painful. And you can see that the sword is completely flat with no tension in it at all. Apologies if you don't have facebook so can't see this picture!
Sorry I can't be at practice tonight - I've got a Foxglove Trio gig in Waltham Abbey.
See you next week,

Hi all,
Just a quick reminder that there will be NO PRACTICE on Monday as it's the bank holiday.
There will be NO crawl in May as we don't have enough people available on 30 May.
Rachel has added Cinquefoil's day of dance to the spreadsheet and has separated out the Towersey dates. Please can you all fill these out with your availability as soon as possible? Here's a reminder of the link to the sheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvM6rY7GMmOGdF9vYVIwaXBmXzViSz…
Enjoy the bank holiday!

Hi all,
Not sure whether or not I'll make it tonight as I'm being sent to Derby
with work and don't know when I'll be back. Just thought I'd let you all
know, but fingers crossed!

As I'm not going to be at practice on Monday thought I'd share below email from guy at Tenterden.
He's sticking to his 'on the fence' status about his preferred day for us to attend, as I said he would.
If we have an equal amount of people who can do either day I vote we go for Saturday, as that's clearly the busy day & would probably be the most fun!

Hi,
Quick follow up - Lindsey had the bright idea of writing down which places
people can dance from. There's now a cell underneath your name on the
crawl sheet with some numbers in it. A number on its own means that you
would be happy and confident to dance out in that position, a number in
brackets means you're learning the position but it still needs a bit more
work. M is obviously musician and T tommy. We've tried to put in those
positions which we can remember, but do go and update it to make it more
accurately reflect your feelings on the subject.
Hope you're all having a good day.
Thanks,
Rachel :)
Hi All
Unfortunately I have a work event I now have to go to next Monday night, so I'm going to have to miss practice.
This does mean someone else is going to have to step up to role of cake monitor. Any volunteers?
