Hi everyone,
At practice last night we decided that we will go to DERT this year and we will compete. We'll decide next week whether to do a new dance or an edited version of the old dance.
Everyone at practice last night said they were free on the weekend of DERT and would like to come. If you weren't at practice last night please let us know ASAP if you will be coming as we need to enter the number of dancers on our entry form which has to be submitted by next week. Also, if you have any partners or friends who want to come please let us know as tickets (£5) for them need to be booked on the same form. I think this entitles them to get in to the Saturday evening showcase (all teams do a dance but it's not part of the competition and it's followed by the awards ceremony) and to book indoor camping.
On which point, there are two types of accommodation available - hotel or indoor camping. Indoor camping will be a space on a school floor where you can put your camping mat and sleeping bag. It costs £18 for both nights and includes a light breakfast. The DERT website suggests three budget hotels and one 3 star one. There may be others if you google I guess. Travelodge is the cheapest and most central option and there seem to be doubles still available for £30 and £36 on Friday and saturday respectively. If you want to indoor camp this needs to be booked with you DERT place ie you need to decide where to stay this week.
Nikki will be setting up some doodle pads for extra practices and crawls between now and DERT. The more we crawl the better we'll be so please make sure you respond to these as soon as you can.
Thanks very much,
Ffion

Hi all,
Videos
I finally managed to upload the video from the other week. It's here as an unlisted video so only people with this link can see it - http://youtu.be/1d03cFvNv8U. The purpose of this is so we can all see how the team moves as a group together and to look out for bits where we we can improve (individually as well as as a team). Sorry it's quite blurry - I had to save it at a low resolution to get it to upload!
I've also uploaded a bit of the dance from Monday - http://youtu.be/kbCI8fJnbDY. Does anyone mind if I make a higher resolution version of it public?
DERT
DERT 2013 is on Saturday 9 March. The competition is on this day but people often arrive on Friday evening and leave on Sunday morning. Nikki, could you please set up a doodle poll for this weekend? The cost is £30 for the team and £10 per team member plus £18 per head for indoor camping (other accommodation options are available). There are more details here - http://www.dert2013.org/
At the AGM we decided we wanted to go to DERT and compete with a new dance. When we get back from Christmas there will be 9 practices until DERT so we might be pushing it a little. The options are 1) don't go to DERT 2) go and dance but don't compete (this is usually an option but I didn't see it mentioned on the site for this year) 3) go and compete with our current dance tarted up and tidied up 4) go and compete with a new dance.
I was going to suggest having an all day Saturday / Sunday practice followed by a Monday practice, possibly followed by a crawl and then deciding what we want to do. An all day (e.g. 10 - 4pm) practice would give us a chance to try out more figures and put the basics together of a dance we were all happy with before spending the rest of the Monday evenings perfecting the dance. However, the deadline for DERT applications is 15 Jan so we'd have to have an all day practice on 5, 6, 12 or 13 Jan. We'd also have to find a venue. Nikki, could we find out if the church hall was free on Saturdays or Sundays?
I have put together a suggestion for a new dance. The majority of the figures are either ones we know from the current dance or ones we've tried out in the last month or so. The ones in italics are exceptions to this:
Start with a clash and go in to walk the dog
glass into haymarket - 1.45 - 2 in this (not very tidily done!) http://youtu.be/2LPjbcFslnQ
Tits
Reins into lock 1.05 - 1.25 in this http://youtu.be/C0LmC-MeKig
Display lock and spin
Hoops
Doughnuts
Flying pixies
Curly
6 person lock
It would be good to know what you all think about 1) the options on going to DERT 2) having an all day practice 3) the possible dance above.
Nikki, if the consensus is to try and have an all day practice before 15 Jan could you please set up a poll for those 4 dates?
Sorry this was such a long email - at least we've all got Christmas holidays coming up for you to read and think it over.
Merry Christmas!

Hi All
Just a quickie to let you know I'm on the case with pubs for Tuesday night.
A mentally busy week at work has prevented me from securing all 8, I've got 2 so far, but will be hitting the streets of Islington tonight to get the rest (conscious a Friday night isn't ideal for this task, but needs must).
If anyone fancies joining me I'll be in Islington from 6, so just let me know.

Hi everyone.
I now have more detailed information about the Northwood Day of Dance, which is on Saturday 11th May 2013 - sorry, Rachel!
I hope that you can open the attachment; I found it a bit tricky, but I got there in the end. Let me know if you can't and I'll send it some other way.
If we can get a side together, we'd also need to decide how much of it we wish to attend.
Great practice this evening and greatly needed!

Hello Sue,
You beat me to it. It was a lovely day on Saturday – just the right
weather for keeping moving.
Apart from asking “Why Tower Ravens?” (Very black birds !!) we would be
delighted if you get a side, or even 3, to come to our day of dance. I
attach the booking form, for your information rather than in expectation an
immediate or committed reply. In full flood doing Christmas cards to
Europe so have to keep going.
Marry Christmas to all.

Subject: [Tower Ravens] Invitation
Date: Sun, Dec 9, 2012 19:16
In view of the fact that at least two of us won't be there tomorrow, here's notice of an invitation I received from Northwood Morrismen for our consideration. Their next Day of Dance is on Saturday 11th May 2013 (tbc - they actually said the 12th, which is a Sunday)
It's a great day, basically a ready-made tour, which would involve practically no organisation, except getting to and from the start point near Croydon. Everyone gets on a bus that transports us through picturesque countryside to some lovely Kent and Surrey pubs, where we either dance or not, as we choose. Hot lunch is laid on at Penshurst.
There's a feast in a scout hut in the evening, which we could either attend or not and Saturday accommodation is available in the scout hut. I'm not sure what happens on the Sunday - I've only been there for the Saturday. There are usually about 6 or so sides in all, including Blackheath Morrismen and Old Palace Clog (where a few are interested in rapper and we might recruit one or two).
Dancing would be mainly outside on hard surfaces. It's all very relaxed; not many punters as a rule.
Not sure about the cost - it's usually very reasonable.
They are very keen to have a rapper side, which would be a novelty for them and advertisement for us. It tends to be mainly Cotswold, with a bit of North-West.
See you tomorrow

Hi All,
Most importantly, Rachel is bringing cake this week.
Practice is as normal this week (there's not enough notice to bring it forward) at 8.00pm, with food in the spoons next door from 6.30pm.
Results from Doodle with regards to bringing it forward to 7.30pm is 5 yays, 2 mays, and I'm assuming a fair number of mumblemumbles. This is a majority yay, but there's still time to vote and object.
Could you all fill in this doodle poll for availability for coming practices?

(Warning: It's possible that I might not make it, so could at least someone bring an instrument just in case? Ta.)

Hello everyone,
At practice last night we decided to try and have a crawl around Angel on Tuesday 18 December. I'm sure Hannorah will be in touch about this soon.
Whether or not we manage to have a crawl on that evening I will be at Angel Tube station singing Christmas carols that evening and it would be lovely if some of you wanted to join me. The suggested start time is 5.30pm but I think I'm going to ask to move it to 6pm so that more people can get there in time after work. It's for the charity I used to work for called Afghanaid (www.afghanaid.org.uk) and they will provide song sheets and t-shirt (for those who want one).
If you think you'll make it please let me know.
Thanks,
Ffion x
Hi all,
I promised an email about how much you all owe me, so here it is :)
1. SUBS
As per the AGM, subs are changing. They will now be £12 monthly for most
people and £8 per month for students. If you want to pay me by cash, you
can do that at a practice. If you want to pay by electronic transfer /
standing order, then I will be using a spare bank account of my own to
house the Ravens' money in. (Keeping it separate until we can set up a
proper Ravens' account.) The details of the bank account are:
Sort code: 070246
Account number: 00380515
- - - - -
2. KIT COSTS
Below is a list of who I think has paid for what and who owes money for kit.
Aisha: no kit
Ffion: £5 net skirt, £15 overskirt, total £20
Hannorah: paid for net skirt, £15 overskirt, total £15
Janet: no kit
Jo: paid for net skirt, £15 overskirt, total £15
Josie: paid for net skirt, overskirt currently being sewn
Lindsey: using own net skirt, £15 overskirt, total £15
Nic: paid for net skirt, £15 overskirt, total £15
Nikki: £5 net skirt, £15 overskirt, total £20
Rachel: £5 net skirt, £15 overskirt, total £20
Sue: paid for net skirt, using own overskirt
I think that covers everybody!
I unfortunately won't be making it to practice tonight, so if you want to
pay by cash, it'll have to wait til next week. Bank transfers are welcome
any time though.
Thanks all,
Rachel :)
Hi all.
Practice as normal, 8pm, Crosse Keys beforehand from 6.30pm.
Reminder to Rachel who I believe is this week's Cake Lady.
See you all Monday!
Nikki
Hi everyone,
At the last practice we looked at a new figure and talked about other ones you'd like to try out. Over the next few weeks we'll be trying out more figures and starting to write our new dance!
Before the next practice can I ask you all to think about figures you might like to learn? They could be ones you've seen other teams do (in real life or on youtube) or ones you've danced before, perhaps at a workshop. I'm happy for you to teach figures you know already but if you don't know how the figures goes but know its name or spot have seen it on youtube please can you send me the name / internet link before Monday so I can work out how to teach it?
See you on Monday!

Hi all.
Practice is as usual on Monday evening, 8pm, and we'll be in the Crosse
Keys as usual from 6.30pm.
We have been given permission to have practice from 7.30pm if we wish, so
we shall be holding a vote in the coming week(s). More info to come.
Also, have heard from James from Seven Champions about the Canterbury crawl
and he says it's fine to do a friday (7th most likely) instead. For us to
accept, however, we'll need a complete side and we still need a 5 and a 4
from people who weren't at the AGM.
We also need a good way of establishing whether we have a side for various
invites for the future. Can people always bring their diaries/calendars on
phones to practice?
Thanks,
Nikki

Hi all
