Hello all,
Absences: Miriam, Emma S and Jo. Sue you said you might not be coming - if you could just message to confirm? Hannah N I don't know if you're up to dancing this eve? Again, a quick message would be great.
Anyone else let me know.
Thanks for the dancing in Bath, and everyone who was able to stay for the final dances of the night. I think it's safe to say we went down well 🙂
Clog: 7-7.30 Building confidence for the new dance.
Rapper 7.30-9.30
Seems early, but if possible I'd like to run through the numbers for C# stepping on. We're only doing one dance so I just want to make sure those people look good together.
After that, I'll be looking at numbers for Thrales day to make sure everyone is happy.
If possible, a bit on popcorn, although I don't want to spend ages. Generally this seems to have been helpful and people are now thinking about their movements much more. It might not be perfect still but hopefully has worked to get you feeling more confident!
Triple jump, that allusive beast. Please push me to fit this in. People have done some great work on it and we can do it so it would be brilliant to get this in a dance.
Anything anyone else would like to work on please let me know.
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
As mentioned yesterday, we're a bit vague as to when Saturday finishes but it seems relatively early. Thrales are proposing going out and doing some pubs once stuff with Northgate has come to an end. It makes the journey more worthwhile and the plan would only be to keep going a bit longer. Maybe an 8 oclock train rather than 5/6?
I know we won't have musicians but can people fill in this poll asap to see if we'd have a team to dance out for a bit longer and we could borrow MJ and Helena?

Hello all,
Absences: I have Martin (although he might be there?) we have Will so fine if not, Hannah N, Emma S, Rachel, new Ellie and Jo
Let me know if there is anyone else so I can plan appropriately.
7-7.30 Clog - continuing working on this. Ideally want to grow confidence of everyone so they feel happy to dance it out!
7.30-9.30 Work through numbers we have for Bath time to make sure everyone is happy and confident for Saturday.
Remember to buy your train tickets to Bath! 9.30 from Paddington, day is meant to finish up at the pub around 6.30 and from there is is approx a 15 minute walk to station.
Ideally some popcorn and triple jump practice - can someone please push me on triple jump I keep forgetting!
Continue to build confidence of Jubilee of new members and go over new numbers for Westerhope. Work on Piccadilly for those learning it.
Anything else, please let me know.
Thanks,
Becky
Hi guys,
1. Thursday
2. Bath time trains
3. AGM agenda
4. Declined Holmfirth
1. Thursday sees us at the Water Rats near Kings Cross. I don't know when we'll be needed to dance but please be ready and in kit for 7.30. From what Will thought we'll do two spots, with two dances in each. It should be fairly relaxed so we'll confirm on the day.
2. Bath time: Book your trains. 9.30 out of paddington gets us in at 11, ready to walk 15 mins to the Bell pub. Should all be done by around 6.30 so suggest looking for trains after that point.
3. AGM agenda - please take the time to look at this and give any feedback. If you can't be there on the night but have comments you want to share you need to get these to me or Hannah in advance.
4. Holmfirth festival I am declining - it's a long way away for a small weekend so suggestion is it's not worth it.
See some of you on Thursday, and the rest next week 🙂
Thanks,
Becky
Hi folks,
With the AGM just under a month away I wanted to send the agenda round.
If you believe there is anything missing, or anything you think doesn't need discussing please let me know and I can amend it.
Thanks,
Becky
Hello all,
Absences: Martin, Hannah, Jo, Clare (Will is coming for music). Anyone else please let me know asap. Hopefully if you're at the gig on Thursday you'll be there tonight.
Clog 7-7.30: Continue to be BETTER. Addressing how we practice at AGM but for now, repetition is better than nothing and definitely helps!
Rapper:
Prep for this Thursday. Make sure happy with the numbers we have etc.
Continue work with new members in Jubilee - potentially teach some Westerhope
Continue work with Piccadilly - Hannorah if you're coming you might be interested in 4
Brief stint on popcorn
Brief stint on triple jump
Anything else just let me know!
Becky xx
Good morning,
If you either: came to Whitby with ravens, were a jellyfish or bought kit
recently you should have had an email from me this morning detailing what
you owe or are owed. Please check the maths, confirm you're happy with it
and then pay. I'll not be paying you until you confirm it's correct. Thanks
to those of you who have already done so :) and if you think you're one of
these people and don't have an email then let me know.
The cost of kit changed slightly as I realised Laura's maths was right and
not mine... I think this only affects Rachel-Anne who has already paid so
I'll talk to you separately about refunding you. Hoodies are £25.50 and t
shirts £14.80. Please let me know if you have not received your kit yet.
Think that's all... If you have any questions please get in touch, and as
ever, if you're in an awkward financial pickle then do say. You can talk to
Becky as well if you'd rather not talk to me.
Happy Thursday!
Hi folks,
Random little bits this week:
1. Thrales Day
2. Ken's PHD celebration
3. Simon Vaughan party
4. Towersey
5. AGM
1. Please see the sign up sheet for some extra details on Thrales day. Can the following people please confirm asap if they want food on Saturday night and whether they have any dietary requirements.
Tori, Rachel, Hannorah, Katherine and Ellie
Please do bother to turn up on the Friday, just because it's local doesn't mean we're not an invited team. Imagine that we've gone away for the weekend and should be involved in everything!
2. Ken passed his PhD *yay* we're heading to C# 18th October for their Knees up. It's the cock and bull band with Michael Catovsky calling. You're all welcome to along if you fancy it 🙂
3. Simon Vaughan is having his 40th 19th October, as he mentioned it's an open invite to ravens, if we have a team we might dance but no pressure. Venue tbc.
4. Please respond to Towersey invite, 28th-31st August. Please note we need to be dancing on the Friday.
5. AGM is happening 11th November: I'm working on the agenda based on Hannah's starting point before she went on holiday. I'll share once I've updated it a bit and then send it round for people to add points to. If there is anything you think I wouldn't include please feel free to get in touch whenever!

Thanks,

Hi All,
Thanks for making the sign-up sheet look so wonderfully filled in!
A few slightly random and unordered items...
Bath Time, ideally we would buy some advance tickets, as they would be
marginally cheaper - though at the mo, I don't have an end time confirmed.
I asked Edwin about this and have been promised more info soon... likely
times are 11-5. I think to get there for the start this means the 0930
train from Paddington.
We had some more info come through on Strawbear - Saturday is absolutely
fine, and they tend to put rapper dancers inside anyway, so we aren't going
to freeze! Though we should watch out for the bears...
We've had a new invite this week for Black Diamond Day of Dance 18th April
2020 in Darlington, can also do some dancing on the Sunday. Saturday
evening there would be a session. One way or anther we can make a weekend
of it.
I haven't heard more from Aaron about exact timings for Man the Lifeboats
in a couple of weeks, but am sure that will all come through soon enough.
I'll now leave you in peace for a couple of weeks. (Sign-up sheet is here
as always though!
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
)
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
Absences: Hannorah and Hannah N
We have THREE new people this week. I'm pretty sure all of which have done some rapper, so should have a head start. We'll see how they get on - it does mean there'll be some back to basics jubilee learning going on!
Clog: 7 Sending poor Emma and Jo to the front to boost confidence.
Rapper: As mentioned, three new people so there'll defo be some Jubilee going on. Possibly even 2 jubilee sets so we can do some back to basics.
I'd also like to do Piccadilly with Fliss at 1 and Jo at 4.
Some time to be spent on Popcorn and (if we have the people) triple jump.
Any other absences please let me know asap!
Thanks,
Becky
Here's the deets again for tomorrow's crawl.
Meet at the *Exmouth Arms
<https://www.google.com/maps/place/PubLove+@+The+Exmouth+Arms/@51.5278808,-0…>*,
near Euston Station ready to dance at 7.30. I couldn't book a table but
will try to arrive early to nab one. Then:
*Crown and Anchor*
*The Rocket*
*Somers Town Coffee House*
Mabel's Tavern (maybe)
Euston Flyer (maybe)
*The Boot*
The Harrison (maybe)
See you all tomorrow
R-a x
Hi All,
Not too much on the business front this week, though we do have a crawl
tomorrow (26th September) around Euston-ish. Watch out for starting pub
from Rachel-Anne and please arrive at 1915 and be ready to dance at 1930 as
usual.
*Fliss* has the swords (6 old ones and 2 new ones - I've got the broken one
at home now) We'll also need to do a bit of petticoat sharing as Hannorah
and Clare don't have them - Hannorah please remember the manky sash.
We now have an official invite to Towersey 2020 (28th-31st August) over the
bank holiday, getting more details at the mo, but please sign-up if you are
able. They wanted us to come this year, but we couldn't make it given we
were at Whitby.
Other invites on sign-up sheet that we have yet to be able to confirm
include: Mabel Day 1st December in Oxford, Ossett Beer Cart (5-7th June)
and Saltburn Festival 14-16th August.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
See most of you tomorrow!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
Sorry it's a bit later than usual....
Anyway, 17th October Man the Lifeboats album launch is now confirmed along
with 16th November Step Ceilidh Party (if I forgot to mention that before).
So lots of confirmed things coming up over the next few months!
Coming up next week we have our crawl on Thursday 26th and then the next
thing will be the man the lifeboats in October.
As discussed on Monday, 16th December will be the last practice of the
year. We'll figure out when we're going to party as soon as we can - though
to help this it would be great if you can sign up to the December crawl one
way or another so we can figure out whether I need to do a doodle (which I
probably will, but maybe a bit nearer the time!)
Other sign-ups - we've got the November Crawl, Mabel Day, DERT 2020, Ossett
Beer Cart and Saltburn on there for you to take a look at. As well as
whether in principle you fancy going to DART 2020 - more info on this to
come soon (and decisions at the AGM on 11th November).
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Have a good week and see you soon!
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi all,
If you have had kit in the latest round I will be asking you for money
shortly. Still working out the exact costs but if you'd like to budget
it'll be about £15 for a tshirt and about £25 for a hoodie, certainly no
more than £20 for a tshirt or £30 for a hoodie.
Proper accurate email to follow...
Thanks,
Emma
Hi all,
I hope you're all enjoying a restful bank holiday after a long week of
dancing!
We have a policy to reimburse half of expenses when ravens go to things.
For Whitby, that's just the travel as free camping was an option. If you'd
like to claim half of your travel back, please fill out your name and the
details of your travel on the spreadsheet below:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/134tBVMY_lRh5ONWfI_SULq7Ru4Zb-mIt4qd…
Once everyone's filled it in I'll try and work out the fairest way to
reimburse. Eg if you travelled first class then I'll aim to reimburse you
half of a standard fare.
For Kimpton, Warwick and Cambridge: these festivals were fairly close so
I'm assuming no one paid a lot to get there? If this is not the case,
please get in touch and we can work something out.
As always, if you ever feel out of pocket for your ravening activities do
get in touch. We're here to dance, not to bankrupt you! :)
Thanks,
Emma
Hello all,
Absences: Clare and Emma H, I believe everyone else is coming?
Clog: 7-7.30 Might continue the experiment of Jo at the front to get the cogs working fast enough to make the brain correspond. Continue to get the new dance in our heads and actually working.
If anyone has anything they want to do in particular please let me know!
Rapper: If possible we will continue Emma through at 2 in jubilee and Fliss and Jo through 1 and 4 in Piccadilly.
We'll also have a small stint at popcorn and start breaking it down a bit more stylistically as various people raised this as a problem figure!
Remember to sign up<https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…> to stuff! In particular the album launch and the AGM!
Anything you want to work on please let me know,
Becky xx
Hi All,
Thanks for the all the sign-ups on Monday!
*More info on events:*
*Whittlesea* for those that missed Becky's description, we would be able to
dance mostly inside, but would be good to join in the parade and mass dance
as well (might wear long sleeve T's for a bit of extra warmth as kit!!)
There is a ceilidh on Saturday night and then there is more dancing at a
Sports Hall on the Sunday followed by the burning of the Straw Bear. We'd
go up early on Saturday morning. If you could only do one day, please add
that to the sign up sheet - it's looking at the mo like we might be
Saturday only.
*Man the Lifeboats* - the whole event runs 1930-2300 and sounds like the
current plan is for a dance at the start and then one before Man the
Lifeboats start though they are flexible with it (there are 2 support acts
and possibly a Morris team). Offer of a few drinks at least! This is 17th
October, so decisions soon would be helpful.
*New Invite*: *Ossett Beer Cart* 5-7th June 2020. We've been once before -
you help pull the beercart around the town and then dance at various spots
in town on Saturday including in the pubs ('cos rapper) - they also have a
"Rapper Dance Off" as of last year and are hoping to repeat with one team
signed up already. On Sunday morning dancing at a tourist spot. Camping
available (think this is usually the cricket club). First come first served
on teams.
*Other stuff:*
Goathland Plough Stots are doing the three peaks challenge next weekend
(21st September), and are doing a dance on each summit, to raise money for
Childhood cancer. If you would like to make a personal donation you can do
so here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/folkythreepeaks
Sign-up sheet here as always:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Thanks,
Hannah
Hello all,
Absences: Katherine - anyone else please let me know! Ellie I know you're leg isn't great so just let me know if you'd rather not come.
We do have Hannah N's colleague Emma coming back this week 🙂
Clog at 7: I think we just have to keep doing the new clog. It might be a nice thing to perform at the Sunday of Thrales day? But I'd want us to be confident enough to try it as there will be clog dancers about (very supportive ones mind).
Rapper 7.30-9.30
We'll run through Jubilee with Emma in the set and Piccadilly with Fliss and Jo in the set. For the latter we'll go over what we did last week and, if possible, press on to the next section.
It would be really good to get some feedback on what people would like to work on. We've got to quite a good place with people knowing multiple dances and multiple positions but if there is any "personal development" type stuff that people would like now is a great time to raise it. I'm emailing a couple of people, but if you have ideas of stuff you want to do please get in touch. I'm not psychic!
Last but not least, thanks so much for having us yesterday Sue! It was lovely to have a chance to do some relaxed dancing and just spend some time together without festival pressures 😄
Remember to attack the sign up sheet! https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4… Remember we are not doing Dance Around the World at C#.
See you later,
Becky xx
Hi again,
For those who had crisps and dips from the stash can you wing me a pound? For those who also had burgers/chicken on a stick could you make it more like £2?
All much appreciated!
(Martin I know you provided sausages, I don't know if you want anything from people? I figure the two of us call it quits?
Thanks,
Becky xx
Hi All,
This Sunday we have *Sue's street party! Meet at 12 in The Capitol *(Spoons
very close to Forest Hill station). The plan is to hit some pubs in Forest
Hill before heading over to the party ready to dance at 3pm.
We are then welcome to stick around at the party, there will be some food
on the street as well, and Sue will be lighting up the BBQ in the early
evening. BYOB (though Sue has some Prosecco) and please bring something to
put on the BBQ - I think Sue said she'll be making some salads.
If arriving for 12 is an issue, please let Becky/me know.
Thanks to everyone for filling in the sign-up sheet - our Autumn sign-ups
are looking much healthier! The one we could do with a bit more on is the *Step
Ceilidh Party on 16th November*. It would be great to do this, but at the
mo we are reliant on the no-replies and maybes to have a team.
*Whittelsey Straw Bear *will need to know if we are coming by 1st October,
so please fill yourself in for this one as well. We'll try and get a bit
more info as well.
*New Invites:*
*- 17th October - Man the Lifeboats* album launch in the Water Rats (near
Kings Cross). Ellie is getting more info on this, but likely to be a dance
and free drinks!
- I have also added the *AGM* date of *11th November* to the sign-up sheet,
please take this as it officially being called. More info/Agendas etc.
nearer the time.
*Events which are not happening: *
*- Dance around the World *- people just don't seem keen (unless you all
put yourselves down as yeses today!).
- The *crawl on 31st October will be cancelled* - am trying to work out a
different date at the mo, which is proving tricky given our other events.
*AOB*:
- If you haven't filled in Emma's *Whitby expenses* spreadsheet please do
so, she will be chasing soon.
- *Kit*: I think Miriam, Rachel-Anne, Jo and Clare (T-shirt only) are the
only people that haven't got it yet, you should be able to get this on
Sunday, or can arrange to get it from me after that. Emma will be in touch
about costs for kit and getting that in.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Thanks,
Hannah
Hi All,
What. A. Week! Hope you all got back ok and are recovered/ing from a week
of dancing. We've had loads of fabulous responses online and during the
week while we were there, so fair to say we made an impression and lived up
to our collecting reputation. We've had a some photos sent through to us
from Robert Townsend, including some from the dance on the boat - I'll try
and gather these together at some point as they ended up in multiple emails
and pop them in a folder on the GDrive so we have them in stock.
Now that the summer of all the festivals is over, we now have plenty coming
up for the Autumn and beyond. 🍁
There are some new events below along with some that really really need you
to check your diaries and give and answer for - Bath Time and Thrales Day
being the main ones - please change to a yes or a no.
The next thing on the sign-up sheet is *Sue's Street Party on 8th September*,
which will be after our next practice 2nd Sept. If you could come armed
with any info next Monday Sue that would be fab!
While we were away and over the last couple of days, we've had some more
invites coming through, so please take a look at them below (in
chronological order) and fill yourselves in on the sign-up sheet.
*Stepping On Conference, Step Ceilidh Party on 16th November*
(evening). Rapper spot as part of the Step Ceilidh party (something between
a ceilidh (focussing on dances with a stepping content) and a number of
short step and clog dance performances mostly from delegates at the
conference, probably also opportunity for jamming steps as well). Will and
Martin (Brown Boots) will be the band and Kerry Fletcher the MC.
*Strawbear 17-19th January 2020* Dance displays on both weekend days -
Saturday looks to be 1030-1530, there is a concert and a ceilidh in the
evening (will need to buy a ticket for these) and other things throughout
the day. There is also indoor camping available at £7.50 a night. We need
to get back to them by 1st October so please sign up asap. Becky and a
couple of others have been before, so am hoping we can talk about it a bit
more on Monday, sounded like there might be potential to ensure we can do
some pub dancing. It's about 1hr 30 from Kings Cross, which may make it
easier to do a day trip if that's what we would like to do.
*Saltburn Folk Festival* - 14th-16th August 2020. Just up the coast from
Whitby, takes about 3.5hrs on the train via Darlington.
They can offer us free accommodation. There is a train station in Saltburn,
but if we need lifts from the Station then they are happy to oblige. There
are 2 main dance sessions 11-4 on Saturday and Sunday and there is a
ceilidh on the Saturday night with dance spots - it's up to us how much we
go for, though given the travel time, I would suggest doing the whole
weekend with an aim to leave early on the Sunday to get home at a
sensible-ish time.
*Finally we still have no replies and maybes for:*
- *September Crawl* - as a bonus Rachel Anne is organising it and intending
to celebrate the end of her course if that's an incentive.
-* Bath Time!* 26th October, if it helps you decide I am intending to turn
down the Dance around the World invite as I think most people would prefer
to go to Bath Time. There are quite a lot of you in the maybe and no reply
boxes - I was going to name and shame, but a few too many! Please move to
yes or no, I will be chasing on Monday.
- *Thrales Birthday weekend* - looking better, but would be helpful to have
those last responses in. As it is in London, it doesn't matter if you can
only do part of it, but please say if that is the case. (I'm looking at
Miriam, Emma, Ellie and Joanna for this one)
FYI - I've declined the Lewes festival on 12th October as they have been
chasing us and we just don't have enough people, so feel free to take that
one out of your calendars.
Sign-up sheet here as always:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/11XHQc6j0g7HQto7rhOs6k0bfkw-XmFb8jmCeRa4…
Have a lovely week and see you soon!
Thanks,

Hi Hannah,
Just want to say a huge THANK YOU to Tower Ravens for helping make Whitby
Folk Week 2019 such a great success - I've had the best feedback ever on
the dance teams this year, and especially yourselves, you really earnt the

We'd welcome any feedback from your perspective, either specifically about

Folky three peaks
Hello
Sorry for the blanket email, I hope this doesn’t make it feel less personal
but it was the best way I could think of to reaching out as far as
possible!
I hope this email finds you well and you and your team have enjoyed plenty
of summer outings! Please could you pass this email onto your members.
I guess for those of you who know the Plough Spots, this email and the
nature of us being cheeky will not be a surprise!
For those of you reading who do not know the Plough Stots we are a
longsword team based on the North Yorkshire Moors. Probably as famed for
our drinking as we are for our dancing.
On this occasion though we are doing something a little different from our
normal hobble between dance spots and the next pub!
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This horrible disease is
something that has recently rocked our close knit community in Goathland,
and we want to do our bit in raising money to help fight the disease and
raise awareness.
On Friday 20th of September 2019, a team of 9 Plough Stots will be packing
a minibus and heading up to Scotland. The plan is that the following day,
Saturday 21st of September 2019, we will be taking on the challenge of the
National Three Peaks (23 miles of walking, 3064 foot of accent and 462
miles of driving) as we climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and
Wales within a 24 hour time limit! To add an extra challenge, we plan to
complete the whole event in our dancing kit (complete with swords and
instruments!) and perform our figures at the top of each peak!
We are quite sure this hasn’t been done before, and are very excited to be
able to say we will have danced on the highest points in the UK, while
raising money and awareness for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
This is were we need your help, as we would love you to help spread the
word. Not only about the challenge, but about Childhood Cancer Awareness
Month.
We would greatly appreciate any support you can give, and if you could
sponsor us for the event, simply the cost of a pint would help us along the
way to our target.
All money raised will going to our chosen charity, The Children's Cancer
and Leukaemia Group.
Thank you for taking the time to ready the email, and any donations would
be greatly appreciated.

Subject: [TR Committee] Travel Update!!
To:
Hi All,
For anyone travelling by car to Whitby from the West (on A64 from M1)
please be aware that the traffic is heavier than usual due to Countryfile
Live being at Castle Howard from now until Sunday. If possible it's best to
avoid the A64 as there are tail backs to York, and possibly beyond, which
can add up to an hour and a half to your journey!
Please can you let your teams know.
Many thanks,
Melanie
