As this is a film of DERT set specifically I am addressing them directly and being a total nitpicking cow about the whole thing. I think the problems are happening generally rather than just the final dance (which I have focussed on) but apologies if I bring something up and you know it was just a weird moment! For speed I am referring to people by numbers 😊

Walk on - I know was only a practice but we need to look ready to go on, before walking on we need to be stood up straight, not chatting etc. I don't think this is generally a problem at DERT but is something worth remembering, it's very easy to stand up straight just as you walk on but we're on show before that.

Windmills - 2 and 4 aren't always standing up at the same time, although this only happens in the 3rd video I'm pretty sure I've noticed it before. I'm guessing something didn't work quite right because 4 looks actually delayed in the 3rd video. The way to make this move look good is with symmetry on both sides (see picture), when you start analysing it this shows theirs isn't quite perfect either but looks pretty good. Potentially I could put more effort in and jump higher for drama? Thoughts?

Locking in 6 - 1 and 5 need to be stopping a little further to the right, I know for 5 it's a mission to get there in 6 but at the moment you're almost central. Maybe if 1 could stop slightly further round it would help 5 position?

Star rotation - 4 is generally standing too far away from the set and facing in rather than to the front (I'm aware this is probably the conversion from 3 and having never talked about it!) also as 3 I am making a conscious effort to move further back into the set after the display, so 2 and 4 need to make a point of coming back from your display points to match me before we rotate.

Lock pre-nut - again 1 and 5 need to be stopping a little further to the right/ not stepping out of the correct position, which is what's happening at the moment. Potentially 2, 3 and 4 need to be more stubborn about staying in place?

Spin - very stampy. I can't actually remember what we're looking for stylistically anymore. As ffion mentioned last day practice we haven't actually worked on the spin because it works fine. I think maybe some spin work just to make sure we're all on the same page is worth while and thinking about when we finish the spin and peel out into the line.

Line rotation - don't panic, don't speed up stepping. We can do this!

Needles - not quite ducking but the swords are low, this might be because of the angles we're at but if we can all try and think to keep them higher it might look nicer? Also KEEP the swords high before in place and lowering them for 4, we can be rather lazy about it.

Arches - Arches 2, 3 and 4 need to go down at the same time ready for the sweeps (4 currently stepping for longer than 2 and 3). At the moment 2 and 3 are doing two shuffles, placing left foot and going down on 3 and placing the right foot on 4 once down. 4 is managing to do an extra shuffle and then going down. We just need to all do it the same - please try and think which looks better and we'll try and make it match.

Sweeps - 4s right angle arm is looking a little acute.

Hoops - 3 stay in line, tendency to be too far forward on display. 1 I think your arch is generally bigger but due to lighting it's hard to see. Hopefully we can access this with people watching, it certainly doesn't look to be totally even atm.

Second tits - 5 gets in to place once stepping. Sometimes this seems more obvious than others. Is there a way of having you there in time to step? It's so fast and at the back that it's 1. hard to see if getting there faster is doable and 2. whether it's worth worrying about.

6 Sword lock display - CALM DOWN stepping in 8s is easy, rotating is easy, lets put these things together and chill as we rotate. Atm it's really messy sounding. May have been due to Hannorah not being sure what was happening as the video when there are 5 of us it sounds a lot calmer. This goes for the caterpillar as well, we just really need to listen to the music and go with that, there's plenty of time 😊

Glass - getting down on the 4. I think this just needs practice, especially now we've just changed it. I don't know if there is a good plan for if we know we're late?

Lastly I want people to think about the doubles, I'm happy to keep going with them but I'm worried that realistically, in the moment, they sound a bit naff and that we won't be able to improve them enough. Can people think about the benefits of keeping them in versus replacing them with jonty/break step. Neither of which appear anywhere else in the dance and which we could probably execute much better? We sacrifice kudos of attempting doubles but shouldn't run the risk of losing points through bad doubles, and it makes one less thing to worry about in the dance! I will go with the majority and I'm happy to stick at doubles for a while and to generally continue to practice doubles, never say die and all that.

See you tomorrow, should a day of computer work cripple me I will appear with keys and swords and leave again!

Thanks,

Becky
