Hello!

Busy day at work so I'll look at the document in a bit. Two quick things:

1) Yes, circle guard is walk around in a circle
2) Stepping - I've quickly read back through the emails between me and Sinead. I can forward them if that's helpful. I think we assumed the stepping was a straight 8 the only thing we couldn't work out was what the 'break' was supposed to be. Sinead found out it was something to do with Grenoside. I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4lToCtXC8E where they do a 'tap tap' on the last beat of the phrase so we added that to the end of a straight 8. Apologies if that's historically wrong but at least it's a legitimate reason for doing what we do.

I think circle guard is what we do, i.e.get into a curly by 1-5 spinning through the guard position into curly and a nice sweep of that sword (as we do in Piccadilly and Westerhope). I asked Ru what a circle guard was and she described what we do.

All looks good.

There is 2 small things I would add if possible:
1. A reference at the end of the stepping quote
2. A reference in the kit bit after reflect influences from the team (appendix)

1. Hopefully music will be ok- sounds like Nikki is very much on it :)

2. The stepping seems to depend where you want to take info from. The westerhope info seems to indicate what we're doing, the stuff on Grenoside is almost certainly referring to double stepping. But it also says it only happened sometimes, and the team didn't execute it in the same way. It's totally up to you if you want to try and gte the team double stepping, I'd have thought you'd be better to mention it in the notes but perhaps make a joke of suggesting they sound like they performed it badly and therefore we have chosen not to include it?

3. Tommy and Betty is again up to you, unfortunately I don't think we're going to be able to create a decent Betty character at this point (being depressingly realistic I mean). I think if you don't include as much in the notes about it, but rather focus on it being in the pub but not the showcase performance? This is after all a stage performance so it's a totally valid interpretation.

Is circle guard just walk around? I have no idea, but to do backlock you have to be in an outward facing ring so that's all I can think it means..

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help, it's looking really good, the only thing I'd suggest is once you've made decisions on the above is cutting down the info you're giving to reflect why we've made the suggestion.

Really hope you're ok, please please do let us know if you need any help.

Thanks everyone for your comments so far. I've had another look at the write-up, made some changes, and some new comments. See attached for the reviewed version as edited by both me and Katherine.

Unfortunately this second look has made me notice a few new things:

1. Nikki this will affect you - unfortunately the music from Sword Dance Airs III was actually chosen by Cecil Sharp, and they were not traditional to the dance. This means that we can't use Thro the lang moor or Warkworth Castle. I'm so sorry Nikki for not spotting this earlier. Please refer to the notes for alternatives.

2. The stepping - Please see notes on stepping in the write-up, and please see attachment for Grenoside stepping notation. If anyone can make any sense of it, let me know. If anything, it looks like they are double stepping...

3. I'm changing my mind about the Tommy and Betty issue. Please see write-up for reasons.

And does anyone know what circle guard is???

I'm soooooooooooo knackered. I feel quite ill. If I come tonight, I think I will need to leave early. I'll let you know.
