Hi all,
Sorry this is very late in the day but I said I’d send round
a ‘job description’ for foreperson, based on what is set out at in the 2013 and
2014 AGM minutes:
The main purpose of the role is to make sure we are heading
towards the goals which we set out at AGMs and EGMs (e.g. place in Championship
and do Trad at DERT) and to get the team dancing as well as possible at public
dance outs. The foreperson is the dance ‘quality control’ person and therefore has
overall responsibility for the team when they are together i.e. at practices
and dance outs. The secretary is in charge when we’re apart e.g. telling us
when and where we need to meet next.
The foreperson should listen to team members’ opinions
wherever possible and large decisions should be taken by team members present
during weekly business sessions, AGMs and EGMs. The foreperson will ensure all
decisions are in the interest of the team, but their final decisions should be
respected. The foreperson is also able to make decisions on things at short notice.
The foreperson also carries out these practical tasks:
·
Decides who dances which dances from which
positions at dance outs
·
Looks at the signup sheet in order to plan
overall priorities for practices e.g. if we’ve got 8 dancers for the next crawl
but no 4s then teaching a spare 2 to be a 4 would be the team’s top priority
·
Plans the details for practices e.g. which dances,
figures or dancers who need some attention? What looked ropey on the last crawl
and what have people told you they’re concerned about recently?
·
Leads the creation of new dances, if the team
wants any new ones
·
Researches traditional dances, if the team wants
to learn new ones
·
Teaches a set at practice
Don’t worry – you
don’t have to do all of this yourself!! As long as the foreperson has a general
idea of where the team is going and how we’re going to get there these
practical points can all be delegated, especially the first and last ones.
See you all later,
Ffion x
