Hi all,
We had an interesting practice last night - 4 dancers and 2 musicians! We managed to do
some good work on stepping though and then had a good chat in the pub about future dances.
We decided we should keep the DERT dance as it is at the moment while we develop our other
dance and then to make a few more adjustments to the DERT dance to make it even more
flashy and exciting.
We also decided that we should name our dances after tube lines. When the DERT dance is
further developed we'll call it the jubilee dance. I have several ideas about how
I'd like to develop the DERT e.g. start with something more unusual which uses several
types of stepping in the first few phrases, add that star and shadow figure in that's
a bit like two half mary annes and end it ready for a tumble, tidy up the bit after the
spin, maybe change fourth corner to tits.
However, I think we should try and work on the other dance collaboratively so I'd like
to hear which figures you'd all like to put in it. I'll try and send round some
youtube clips of options this week but if you find anything interesting, or if there's
a figure from the original dance you really liked, please let me know! Please bear in mind
that we want this other dance to be easier than the jubilee dance so it's suitable for
absolute beginners who might join in the future. We also want it to be suitable for
dancing outdoors at festivals so figures which are pretty, don't rely on speed to work
well and which look good from all angles would be ideal.
On a more practical note, we won't practise on the May bank holidays. However, we WILL
definitely practise next Tuesday 7 May. Do we also want to practise on Tuesday 28 May? The
hall is free if we want it.
Please add your availability for dance outs onto the spreadsheet. We need to make
decisions about some of the possible bookings very soon. If you can't work it out
either ask Lindsey / Rachel for help or bring your diary next Tuesday.
See you then,
Ffion x
