Hello all,
Just a summary of last nights practice and the plan for the week.
We got Emily all the way through Jubilee, which is great, next week we'll focus on getting her dancing it all the way through with a bit more confidence. Meanwhile the others progressed with Piccadilly with Rachel filling in at 3.
2nd half dert main set found some focus points to work on which we will develop on Sunday - and caught Rachel up on the small changes we have made. Next week I would like to catch Hannorah up on these changes, and at some point, Jo. At the same time the trad set continued to work on Westerhope - not 100% sure how it went as they had a couple of dancers missing but looked like they were making good progress too 😊
Just so everyone is aware, this Friday we have a crawl but it is purely a DERT main set one. Not that many additional people were available and it just made sense to make it the focus this time. All future ones should be as normal. Should anyone else like to come along you're more than welcome, but it will only be the main set dancing.
Similarly there is a day practice on Sunday but this is just for the main DERT set again - so no-one else needs to worry. Should anyone want to drop in for an hour they are more than welcome, it means we get feedback off people rather than having to film everything!
For the majority of people, I'll see you next Monday 😊
Westerhope people - not a focus yet but please think about the westerhope step (dare I say practice it a little??) it's very easy to rush this stepping and snatch the final bit tap tap. Think about remaining steady with it!
I believe Hannah will be emailing with a variety of urgent signups - please actually read and sign up otherwise we're not going to be dancing at anything this year!
Thanks,
Becky
Hi everyone,
Just a quick plug for an event I'm organising tomorrow night. Sorry for not mentioning it sooner. In Wales we have a new year tradition of taking an auspicious decorated horse head around houses.
In London we go to three pubs (the boot, the Harrison and the Calthorpe) for some drinking and singing and then the London Welsh Centre on Grays Inn Road for a ceilidh with The Spring Heeled Jacks. It's all free, there's tasty cider at the centre and there will be at least a handful of ravens there so come along if it you fancy! More details on Facebook :

Hi All,
Really sorry - I seem to have mislaid the sign-up sheet I had with me on
Monday... I can remember most things (I think), but could do with you all
checking and filling in the blanks for me - just so I don't get it wrong!
So - I've added 4th Feb as a potential day practice for the Trad team. (I
think Martin will be a maybe for this at the mo - will let him update.)
Rachel-Anne did you say this one was actually ok? The doodle says no.
The one I'm struggling to remember is 17th Feb Silver Flame crawl. I think
the following was what people said (and I have changed the sign-up sheet to
match) - if it is wrong, could you change it please? Hannorah - no; Anna -
no (unless needed); Hannah TD - yes. Think that was all the changes.
DERT Travel: Sue - morning; Rachel-Anne - after work??; Hannorah will be
driving. Does that all sound ok?
Sign-up sheet here - please have a quick check:

Sorry for needing to ask you to basically re-fill it in - next week I will
remember where I put the sign-up sheet...
Thanks,
Hannah
Dear all,
Thanks for yesterdays practice - excellent attendance meant we could have two teams the whole time, with people able to be outside the set for teaching!
Summing up we got Ellie and Emily (on her first practice) through the first half of the dance and then did a brief reminder for Ellie for the end of it. At the same time Ffion started teaching a new set of people the Piccadilly dance. I think this might be the pattern we follow for a few weeks meaning any new members have a chance to dance, but can leave after business if they want, and allowing other members to begin to learn Piccadilly.
Second half was spent working on the DERT sets for the main comp and trad. I know it maybe felt like a hazy start but Westerhope was already starting to take shape with people in their new positions. And Piccadilly we experimented with an alternative to needles - which is very like needles but seems to be less like a fight!
We'll continue the good work next week. Any people who know they won't be available on Monday's please let me know.
Special thanks to Nikki for standing is our musician for the next few weeks 😊
See you next week!
Becky
Hello all,
The only person I have missing tonight is Rachel who we will see next week, anyone else please let me know.
We have two new people who, I think, it might be best to have dance in the first half and then they can go if they want to? They have both been warned that due to the time of year they might not get a huge opportunity to dance.
During this first half I would like to get two new people through some jubilee while a new set works through Piccadilly. In particular this includes the warwick members - potentially with Ffion teaching?
Second half will be spent focussed on dert set and trad, so new people can leave if they want to or stay and watch.
I hope that sounds all ok, it's so hard to get the balance for new people at this time of year, all suggestions welcomed! Please try and be there ready to start at 7.30.
Becky
Hi everyone,
I am gutted to say that I'm leaving the team. I'll miss you all, and it's
been wonderful playing and dancing with the team. But as most of you know
I've found it hard not being able to come to everything and cancelling at
short notice, and the team needs a more reliable musician.
Hannah, I'll work out a time I can come into London to hand over the spare
kit.
Good luck at DERT!
Kate

Hello all,
It's a whole new year! Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday when we get cracking into DERT preperation.
Is there anyone who isn't coming: Kate is a no, Jo and Rachel I have lost track!
I believe we should have a new member turning up, Maz, although I have pointed out it's not a great time to start learning as our focus is on the DERT dances. So we'll try and have her dancing as much as possible but hopefully she'll understand if it's a bit limited.
As far as the DERT set is concerned I think we'll start off with a dance-through which we film and then spend some time figuring out where any problems lie. I'd also like to consider any changes people may have thought of as obviously the sooner we put them in the better.
Westerhope set is in the capable hands of Emma although I'd say you need to spend time working through people in new positions and if there are any changes Emma is interested in making before going as far as filming the whole thing.
I'd also like to get other people learning Piccadilly so we will hopefully start this off as well - we'll potentially split into Piccadilly and Jubilee at this point in order for newer members to dance and to firm up newer positions etc.
Hope that all sounds ok!
Becky
Hi All,
I'm sure you'll all get sick of me emailing about DERT over the next few
weeks - however this is very urgent so if any of the below is incorrect *please
respond asap. (Tomorrow 8pm latest).*
I just need to double check that I have the right number of people on the
list for DERT so we have enough tickets. This includes plus 1's as I may
have this wrong. (If plus one's are staying/travelling with us but don't
need a ticket (i.e competing with another team...) then they don't need to
be on the list below.)
*Hannah TD* - could you also let me know as to whether you are staying with
the rest of the Ravens or whether you were wanting to indoor camp - I think
it must have been you who mentioned that. If it helps, looks like both Anna
and Emma (+1) will not be indoor camping. It will affect which ticket I
need to get for you.
Anna - plus 1
Becky
Emma (assuming no ticket needed for +1 as will be with Warwick??)
Ffion
Hannah N
Hannah TD
Hannorah
Joanna
Kate
Katherine
Laura - plus 1
Rachel
Rachel-Anne
I think this gives us 13 dancers, plus 2 spectators.
Ellie, I know we haven't really spoken much about DERT, but if you would
like to come with us, then you are more than welcome. I think there might
even currently be a spare ticket listed on the system if you would like to.
Thanks,
Hannah
Happy new year!
Just wondered if anyone is interested in the below role or knows someone who might be...

The link is here: https://careers.ageuk.org.uk/vacancy/campaigns-and-public-affairs-support-o…
I wonder if you know anyone who might be interested? We’d welcome people at all stages of their career applying – whether it’s their first job or they’re returning to work.
Please do send the link on if anyone springs to mind and I’m happy to talk to them about the role.
Thank you so much,
Rosie
